lol I have taught you well Pash

mischief

But of course, my dark master! wink

Hmm, I am not sure of the exchange rates with Canadian currency at the momemt. But I must say I got a decent deal on my season 2 set. happy Hmm, except for the fact that it had a widescreem band above and belove that occasionally took off a little of Tom Wellings very purrrty face. sad wink

I guess I could get the season 1 set now. I saw it on video but having it will be great!

Oh the pilot episode, Jean?
My recomendation would be to get it if it's priced reasonably. It's brilliant! love A lot of things make sense after watching the pilot and its lovely to see the first few moments of Clark's "Lana daze" at the begining of the highschool year. grin

Hmm, then again it's just a treat to watch Clark anyway. wink

Edit:-

Oh the Highlander season you're refering to may just be season 2 or 3. Elizabeth Gracen was playing a main role by then...she was playing Amanda.

Hmm if it's close to the dollar then it must be good. I rememebr I got my LOTR DVDs from the US and the price was really good, especially for EE versions. grin

Hmm, lots of channels playing it, is it? Won't they notice if another channel played the same programme? confused

Gosh here, Smallville season 1 had a good run and then Season 2 never came. angry Thank goodness the DVDs arrived. grin

Alot of things we never end up seeing or at least is never advertised. For example I had never heard of the Gilmore girls until you mentioned it.

I love the characterisation...Chloe and Pete are spot on. And Clark is well... . Argh, I'm biased!

lol, when it comes to Smallville we are all bias.....Lana love wink
I quite like books that are light reads as it makes a nice change form the big, hefty ones I’m usually reading.

The Rutger Hauer episode is near the beginning of season three. He is a friend of Lionel (well, a business friend, if you know what I mean) so needless to say he’s out to cause trouble and boy, does he cause trouble! wink

Spolier for Pash: The Kryptonite girl appears in the finale and is a very interetsting character. Again I wont say too much, but she has a significant role.....oh and she’s also quite nice too, lol. These casting directors do a great job

Oh Chris Reeve does a fine job doesn't he? Ofcourse I think Tom Welling adds more Ooomph to the Clark role.

I agree Pash, I think the Clark that Chris Reeve plays is very different to the one that Tom Welling plays but I think Tom does a great job and brings out the darker side to Superman/Kent very, very well. I always think Superman needs a bit more edge, and that’s what you get with Tom.
I never really noticed it until season 2, but I really like the fact Clark wears a lot of red and blue cloths, it’s a great little nod to the future grin

I hope you can find a good DVD set Pash. If not, then it might be worth considering an import from the US or from here even. I still haven’t seen some of the episodes from Season One shock
So I’m quite keen to get one.

As for Highlander, sounds like you are seeing the spin-off series which featured Amanda as the main character, which was called Highlander:The Raven
It only lasted for one season and I’ve seen a few episodes but it wasn’t that great sadly.

when it comes to Smallville we are all bias.....Lana

wink Suddenly I don't feel too guilty anymore! Heheh. Yay, we are allowed to have biases! grin

The books
Just finished reading Dragon a few days ago. Really good stuff. Alan Grant writes well and his characterisation is brilliant. Matt, you're gonna love Pete's one liners everytime he catched Clark gazing at Lana! It's a real hoot! laugh

Looks like the Rutger Hauer episode will be good. happy And with him and Lex in the same room. Wow, that's gonna be electric coz I can imagine that Hauer's personality will be pretty strong and a good match for Lex's. cool

Spoiler related question

Matt is that Krypton girl, Supergirl as they keep hinting? confused If it is, then it's another WOW, WOW, WOW, from me! shock cool They frop these gems like no other show!

I think Tom does a great job and brings out the darker side to Superman/Kent very, very well. I always think Superman needs a bit more edge, and that’s what you get with Tom.

Yes, Matt...Tom's got a nice mix of all American farm boy meets bad boy. Phew...I just remembered the episode Red and now I wonder why the room got warm! Hahaha! laugh
And the darker sides make appearances too. Remember the bit it Visage where he tells his parents about his feelings over Whitney's return? There was an honesty there that was both fresh and yet a bit dark. He was confessing that he really wished Whitney had not come back...like Whitney being alive was a hinderence.
Didn't think I'd see that but it was a great moment! cool

I never really noticed it until season 2, but I really like the fact Clark wears a lot of red and blue cloths, it’s a great little nod to the future

Matt, would you believe that I've been hopping in front of the TV set telling mom, "look he's wearing the Superman blue shirt with his red jacket mom! Is't that spooky?"
And i'm not the only one who noticed it! Brill! And its such a lovely hint too...they use the right blue and it looks great on Tom... love

Pash is drifting again...okay, moving on! tongue

I still haven’t seen some of the episodes from Season One

Any in particular, Matt? happy
Oh and I hope I can get the special features on DVD too. happy

The Highlander series with Amanda might be Raven, yes. grin I remember Matt (the other one wink ) telling me about it. grin

lol, no need to feel guilty. Afterall, we are all only human wink

The Books
I’m going to read some Terry Pratchet novels next, but I will try and get my hands on some Smallville books too. I’m sure I’ll love the one liners, slightly off-topic, but Highlander:The Series was brilliant at those one liners so I’m quite partial to them I must admit wink

There may have been a slight misunderstanding Pash, but Rutger Hauer’s character is friends with Lionel and not lex....sorry to disappoint you blush
I think we do see Rutger Hauer and Lex together, but it’s mainly him and Lionel scheming together and trying to out do the other. Great stuff! grin
Oh, and during the football macth yesterday, Rutger Hauer featured in a Guiness advert. It was really short but very funny. I think his role in Batman Begins is small but you can’t go wrong with him really cool

Spoiler Answer:
I say this with no certainty, but personally I don’t think the Krypton girl is Supergirl. There is of cause a chance she is and it was one of the first things that came to my mind when I first saw her, but I know little to nothing about Supergirl so I’m just going on instinct wink
There is something you will like though, Louis Lane is mentioned in one of the episodes...apparantly she’s related to Chloe

Remember the bit it Visage where he tells his parents about his feelings over Whitney's return?

Indeed I do, you could see just how disappointed he was because it meant his chances with Lana had gone right down, but he was still determined to have a go.
There’s plenty of Dark Clark (hey, that rhymes tongue ) to come, and Season 4 will be really interesting because things could go either way. I think it’s quite funny, because in the comics Batman doesn’t like Superman that much because Batman thinks he’s too political and a goody-too-shoes. But I think Smallville has thrown new light on this character and even Batman would be proud of him wink

Pash is drifting again...okay, moving on!

Come back Pash, come back... tongue
lol, I think the red and blue looks great on Tom, and those two colours are not easy to pull-off IMO.

Any in particular, Matt?
I was actually a late starter, so I missed the pilot ( shock ) and the first few episodes after that sad
I didn’t have a TV when I was at uni, so I had no means to watch it during the week but I then realised it was repeated at the weekends when I did have a TV, so I started to watch it as soon as I could and haven’t looked back since grin

OK, I shall up the stakes a bit. There’s been talk of a new Superman film for years, and I believe both Kevin Smith and Tim Burton have been attached to it. The latest rumours a few months ago pitched Natalie Portman being cast as Louis Lane. What would you think about that?? happy

Books
Its sometimes disappointing when authors don't get a character down pat...but when they do..its such a thrill. Coz it's like watching an episode isn't it? grin

Rutger Hauer’s character is friends with Lionel and not lex....sorry to disappoint you

Ahh, no probs Matt. Its gonna be crazier still, no? Oh my..Lionel Luthor and Rutger Hauer scheming...evil! devil I hope Lex gets to make some nice little sarcastic quips! wink

Offtopic from me too, wink but you mentioned football and I'm whoo hooing here coz England won againt Switzerland! Yay! dancing I'm over the moon...well done to your boys, Matt! grin applause

All these comic book heroes in the movies today...really exciting stuff! grin

Spoiler answer of my own! wink

Apparently Lois Lane is Chloe's cousin! Wild isn't it? So close to home for Clark! wink But in the Superman movie Lois is much younger thatn Clark...I wonder what the age gap will be here? confused
Hmm, I guess its gonna be a thrill ride to figure out who the mystery girl is! happy

As for the Lois reference...that's gonna be a biggie in my books! cool

There’s plenty of Dark Clark (hey, that rhymes)

laugh

Nice...heheh! I hope so too...squeaky clean is always lovely...but the darker side gives us a taste of what Clark is capable of. I loved Red as it was so different. Gosh he's such a hottie in that episode. love And to see the switch back to normal Clark. No wonder poor Lana get so confused! wink

Come back Pash, come back...

Righty ho...I'm here! tongue
Agreed...the red and blue combo has the potential to make the guy wearing it look goofy...but not Tom! mischief Don't worry Matt, I'm still here! angel tongue

...the pilot!
Yikes...gotta see that. Prob one of my faves from season 1. It was lovely and it was the much needed intro to the characters. cool Lots to look forward to there...the accident that Lex was rescued from, the explanation for Clark's sickness around Lana's necklace, the highschool prank pulled on Clark...loads of goodies! grin

The latest rumours a few months ago pitched Natalie Portman being cast as Louis Lane. What would you think about that??
You're gonna kill me for this, Matt mischief ...but I cannot imagine Natalie as Lois. blush Here comes the murderous look! wink

Actually I think a fiestier woman is best batting ...someone like Kiera Knightly...at least that kind of attitude-y'know? happy

Oh heard this one? nerd Rumour has that the guy who's being approached for the role is Henry Cavill, who acted in The Count of Monte Cristo. Hmm, whatcha say Matt? happy I saw a recent pic..not bad, but whoever it is will have to live up to the standard set by his predecessors like Chris Reeve and Tom Welling. happy

And those are high standards indeed.

As for Lois's character...keep me posted. It's gonna be interesting to see how the casting goes! cool

Books
That’s right Pash, and with something like Smallville, all the characters are so well defined so it’s even more important they get it right for the books. I know there are some Highlander novels out there and I’d be interested to see how good they are too.
I saw a Smallville 2004 Annual yesterday, lol. I didn’t look inside, but I think it was aimed for the younger viewrs wink

Back to Mr.Hauer, his stuff with Lionel is brilliant but it doesn’t end too well for either of them. Seeing both of them on screen is really scary, but in a good way. Ooooh, I really can’t say anymore but I just can’t wait for you to see it Pash, then we can talk about it till our hearts content grin
Do you know if you can play PAL videos on your VCR and TV?? happy

I hope Lex gets to make some nice little sarcastic quips!
Ha, he’s full of them. But he saves the best till last, trust me mischief

Off-topic football talk:
We were so unlucky against France, but the Swiss result was great. We play our final group game tonight against Croatia so fingers crossed happy
Thanks for your support Pash, I’m sure a certain Mr.Beckham helps though devil

Spolier:
Yep, Lois is Chloe’s cousin. She mentioned it during a phone conversation and you have to listen to what she says very carefully because it’s deeply ironic wink
I’m not sure what the age difference between Clark and Lois is, but I’m guessing it wont be that big but I’m not sure if we will ever get to see Lois in Smallville

I did some research on Supergirl yesterday, and I am quite confident she isn’t the Kryptonite girl. Again, I wont say too much but we do learn about her true identity but I shall wait untill you’ve seen it Pash
tongue wink

Was Red the episode where he first gets the red Kryptonite ring? If I’m honest, I don’t actually know the episodes by name shock
But yes, I felt sorry for Lana and unfortunately the confusion continues on sad
In fact, that’s what sums up Smallville nicely, confusion. No one knows what they want, who they are or what to do for the best. Everyone’s young and learning and I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because I can really relate to it, and I’m sure you agree with that Pash.

Don’t worry Pash, the season one boxset is top of my DVD wish list now dancing
I’ve found a good place to get them so I might do that very soon. In fact, the cover features that High School stunt and it was one of the first images I saw of Smallville and I really liked it (not for the bare chested Tom Welling I should stress tongue but because it looked really dark and poetic wink )

You're gonna kill me for this, Matt ...but I cannot imagine Natalie as Lois. Here comes the murderous look!

laugh Don’t worry, there is no muderous look on my face. I agree, I don’t think she is right for the part mainly because she’s waaaay too young. If she’s Lois then Tom should be Superman.
Fiesty is the way to go, certainly! Nat is too nicey nice even when she’s angry, lol.
I’m really not sure who I would want, I shall ponder.....

As for Clark/Superman, Nicolas Cage had actually done a costume test for it years ago (when it was called Superman Lives ) but I think that idea has been totally shelved now.
**looks at Henry Cavill**
He’s younger then me shock
Hmmm, he does look good, but I think they need someone in their mid-thirties although I guess it depends on the script. But I see no point in doing a film based on a young Superman because Smallville does that perfectly so there is little need for it IMO.
There was talk of Jude Law at one time, but I think that was for a Batman V Superman film.

Pash, did you ever see the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher?? happy

Books
If you're going for books Matt, I'd recommend Alan Grant, coz he seems to get the characters to appear the way they do in the series. cool

Highlander novels...I actually have one that I have only read part way, can you believe it? blush It's called Salamander, I believe. I bought it ages ago and I have to get to it sometime. Perhaps when I'm done with the Smallville set. i.e. if I don't wind up buying all the other Smallville novels at my bookstore! wink

Oh that Smallville Annual...is that a collection of stories? happy

Off-topic football wink

No probs Matt, I've always supported England...and of course, *cough*Becksy*cough*! Heheh! mischief It was great to see new players like Rooney getting goals. Hmm, I'll have ask you the finer points of football over at your sporting thread, me thinks. grin

I know...today is a huge match. Give 'em a yell for me, will ya Matt? happy I'm rooting away for England! applause

Do you know if you can play PAL videos on your VCR and TV??

Oh all the Asian video players play PAL. Actually we use the same stuff as UK...its the American NTSC that we have probs with. wink But I think the new players are able to overcome it...PAL is the system we use in Sri Lanka. cool

Lois is mentioned in a phone conversation? shock Wowee...do we ever hear her voice? That will be downright spooky. Or even if Clark ever has to say her name...even crazier! shock grin

I don’t actually know the episodes by name
No probs, I'm the scary bird who remembers some of them...prob coz the titles show up on the DVD and I read a few spoilers and transcripts. devil

Everyone’s young and learning and I think one of the reasons I like it so much is because I can really relate to it, and I’m sure you agree with that Pash.
It is indeed an exciting time in life...I can remember those years...wow, I feel old! Hahaha! laugh But it's almost like reliving some things when you see their day-to-day teen struggles.

...features that High School stunt and it was one of the first images I saw of Smallville and I really liked it (not for the bare chested Tom Welling I should stress but because it looked really dark and poetic )

I thought the cover was arty too... cool Erm, all right, the foreground was pretty nice too. mischief Heh, I can just imagine why sales of Season 1 were mainly to females. wink

Phew, you know what I mean about the Lois character...yep, fiesty. Gosh it's going to be interesting to see who they pick.

Hmm, think they'll do a 20-something Superman? confused I heard it could be Clark at 26 or somink.

Yep Henry must be pretty young...wait he's our age? shock Interesting. grin

Pash, did you ever see the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman with Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher??
Yep, grin I used to catch it when I could. I liked Dean Cain he was funny and took away the super nerd image that Clark used to have from the movies. Ofcourse Tom Welling completely put the "Super" into the whole thing! laugh

If you mean Teri's Lois...she was good...very fiesty and well balanced. Hmm, it's gonna be a tough call picking the right girl. confused

As for Nicholas Cage...hm, no...I cannot see him as Superman. confused Something doesnt fit there. I duno, is it just me?

Books
Alan Grant it is then Pash, but if all the books suddenly disappear from the shops, I’ll know they’ve all been shipped to Sri Lanka for emergency re-stock wink

I’ve seen a few Highlander novels in the London Forbidden Planet store a few years ago, but I didn’t take a look at them. I’m hoping the new FP store has them still, especially considering the book section is huge now! grin

Oh that Smallville Annual...is that a collection of stories?
I’m not sure Pash. I think it has character profiles and maybe some short stories, but I’m sure it contains things like crosswords, puzzles and things like that. I will take a better look when I see it next and report back happy

PAL is the system we use in Sri Lanka.

Great!! I can’t promise anything, but hopefully season three will be repeated over here very soon and I will endeavour to get them taped and sent to you ASAP. If you don’t mind that is??? (somehow, I think you wont wink )

Spoiler
I can’t quite remember who Chloe is talking to, but it’s not Lois so you don’t get to hear her sad I don’t think Clark even knows she exists yet but I think it would be really good if they do happen to bump into each other at somepoint during Smallville ........or maybe I’m too old fashioned tongue

But it's almost like reliving some things when you see their day-to-day teen struggles.

I still have those troubles laugh
Do you notice that usually the last scene is like a ‘moral of the story’ or Jerry Springer ‘Final thoughts’ type of thing?? Or is that just me?? tongue
Anyway, I really enjoy those moments which is very unlike me, lol. But the writing is strong and what they say makes perfect sense. Smallville is much more then an entertainment series, it’s a guide to life, hehe. Okay, silly mode off now silly

Hmm, think they'll do a 20-something Superman? I heard it could be Clark at 26 or somink.

I could see that working, but Warner Brothers will probably wait and see how well Batman Begins does before they commit to anything which might be the wise thing to do. And besides, they have Smallville doing the business, which will hopefully continue to get bigger and better.
I think Henry is about 20, which isn’t old enough IMO. As for Nicholas Cage, I really wouldn’t want him doing it. He doesn’t look right at all for the part so I’m glad that particualr film didn’t get made tongue

I was an avid watcher of the first season of The New Adventures of Superman. I loved it but lost interest after season two, lol. I think it started to get a bit silly towards the end but it certainly had its good moments. But I’m very grateful Smallville has been made because as you say Pash, it has put the ‘Super’ back in ‘Superman’ which was much needed after that show grin
It’s done things which even I didn’t think was possible, and it’s pulled them off with tremendous success dancing

**Lois Spolier update**

Looks like I wish a bit too pessimistic before, but I got this from a message board and it seems quite reliable:

'Casting Call Goes Out For Lois Lane
A casting call has gone out to agents for the role of Lois Lane, a "recurring guest star for the first four episodes" of Season Four.
The breakdown describes Lois as "caucasian, smart, beautiful, urban, headstrong, and no-nonsense." It says she was an Army kid who moved around every two years. She lost her mother at a young age and helped to raise her young sister, which made her mature beyond her years.
Her father, Sam Lane, is a "high-ranking general" in the U.S. Army. Lois has no room for small talk or superstition, and she has a long history of defying her father and asserting her independence.
The breakdown says that Sam always wanted a son rather than a daughter and thus raised Lois to be hard as nails, like a perfect soldier. Lois hides her vulnerability with sarcasm and wit... much like her cousin, Chloe.
At this point in her life, Lois is in her early twenties and has no interest in journalism.'

WOW grin
However, I have cut it short because the full report would reveal a huge spolier but there is a good reason why Lois turns up in Smallville wink
