Does anybody know the dates when Lucas finished the outline/screenplay for AOTC?
Hello all, I don't usually post here but I have a question maybe some of you more familiar with AOTC can help me with. I have heard the debate about how much actual screen time Jar-Jar has in AOTC. I've heard a lot of people say that Jar-Jar's lack of screen time in AOTC is a direct result of the TPM backlash and that Lucas took note of this.
On the other hand I've heard people say that Lucas was finishing/almost done with the screenplay for AOTC when TPM was released and that fan reaction to Jar-Jar had no impact on how much screentime he had intended Jar-Jar to have originally. I am almost positive that I've seen a Lucas quote floating around the boards somewhere he said that fan reaction/dislike had no bearing on JJ's screentime.
Can someone provide the dates when the screenplay was finished? And the date that AOTC started principle photography? Thanks a lot.

I believe Rick McCallum has said he received the finished screenplay the day he left to go to Australia to film AOTC. That was in late June of 2000. Lucas had been writing the AOTC script since the summer of 1998.

Well, actually, I dont think Lucas really got started on the script of AOTC until about September of 1999, which is later than he normally would have started it. But he needed a Summer vacation to recuperate from the 5 year ordeal of making TPM. Now a lot of the levels of TPM flowed into AOTC,(it took him two years to write TPM). bUT the actual AOTC script did not get started until about September of 1999. Now, if you ask me, I beleive that JarJar's reduced role in AOTC had nothing to do with fans' backlash. If you have an idea of what Lucas is trying to do with this trilogy, you will know it is true. There is a great thread about this debate in TPM forum. Check it out if you would like. It is titled "GL DID listen to our complaints about TPM".

rpeugh: I think that concept artwork for AOTC started in Sept. of 1999. I am almost certain that McCallum said in a 1998 edition of the Insider that Lucas had already started on the AOTC script.
Either way, he takes way too long to write! LOL

Lucas would never admit to responding to the negative reactions to Jar Jar, but I am sure he did.

I agree. I've just written something similar in another thread, where I added another polemic thing from TPM: midichlorians. They were completely "forgotten" in AOTC (thanks, George)

There really was no reason to mention midichlorians in AOTC. They were introduced in TPM, and I can't really think of an effective way to mention them in AOTC.

Well, I think it was strange how Anakin, who is all so sure of himself, didn't mention once something like: "My midichlorian count is even higher than Master Yoda, Padmé, and OB1 is still holding me back".

Or, in ANH, Vader could taunt Obiwan during the saber fight by saying, "You cannot defeat me oldman. YOu got lucky last time. My midiclorian count far surpasses yours."
Yeah, as Yodajeff said, there is no reason to mention them anymore.

No, but that's another thing, completely. A New Hope was made
before
the prequels, right? (funny how people forget that, or have this belief that Lucas "whote it all" in the past).
In a way, you prove my point. In ANH Vader
could
have said that if midichlorians had any part in the Star Wars saga. We could even say, I'd understand that, the midis are at least a part of the prequels. Maybe the knowledge about them was lost and that's why nobody mentions them in the Original Trilogy. (the real reason, of course, is that Lucas only thought about that when he was writing TPM). But if they're a part of the prequels, they should be in AOTC, as bad as it would be. You don't make some huge change like that in one film and simply forgets about it in the next film. And remember that Qui-Gon explained the midi thing directly to Anakin. How something like that wouldn't go to his head?
