"Unquestionably the greatest reciever ever."

Well that's debatable grin

Did I miss something? Alot of you people keep saying he's the greatest swordsman of all time but that is never mentioned in AOTC. As a matter of fact, the only compliment paid to a swordsman is Obi Wan to Yoda during the Coruscante chase. During the battle Mace blocks blasters and kills Jango, but Obi Wan fought longer and hard against Jango trying to capture him. It's always easier to kill than capture. Obi Wan defeated a Sith, single handedly. Yoda fights circles around a Sith. Name one Sith Mace killed.

Well, this has certainly wandered off on a tangent, hasn't it? tongue

Anyway...it's all EU material saying that Mace kicks ass with lightsabres. Just as we only have out-of-film EU material that says, for example, that Coleman Trebor is really called that and not "Death Wish Dino Bloke".

TheWombat: Smack! There is no person named Samuel L Jackson, only the Great Master Windu. Trying to say less is more also doesn't cut it. Compare his actions to Obiwan Kenobi in ANH, or Qui Gon Jin in TPM. GL did not disappoint there, as Qui Gon, one of the "best swordsman" in the Jedi Order certainly displayed great skill and footwork in the most exciting lightsabre duel yet.

Mace Windu just wasn't given the chance to shine by GL. Hopefully, we will get to see more during Ep 3. After all, Mace is the personification of pulp fiction meets SW. He needs to display action.

No, he doesn't need to display action, because he's not a warrior. You see, Mace's role in the saga is not that of a fighter. He will fight when necessary, yes, but he will do it very effectively and then go back to being a thoughtful leader of the Jedi council. I have no doubt he will display some action in EpIII, but we don't need to view him as a great battler, just as a powerful Jedi Master. I think GL has accomplished that so far.

We just all expected Mace to do a great job and be all flashy because Samuel L. Jackson was so bragging about his work.

And of course they can't put these intials on the repica. They put it on the real sabre as a joke.

Precisely.
SLJ said he was a fan of Samurai movies and that he let that influence the way Mace used his lightsaber. I think he nailed it.

Well, I think AOTC was the 'teaser' because I expect more from Mace in Ep3.

So unless I'm proved wrong and he does less/about the same in Ep3, then I'll be happy with that.

According to the Official Site plus several novels, Windu used the rare Form VII lightsaber combat discipline, sometimes called Vaapad. This style is less flashy than the others, without the intricate twirls and spins that say Anakin uses. Someone also said that Mace Windu can only live up to Sam Jackson. That's true; Jackson isn't a martial arts expert like Ray Park, but neither is Ewan McGregor or Liam Niesson(sp?)

Vaapad doesn't mean not flashy. Skill does not mean flashy. Compare Obiwan in ANH. That was skill. It was not flashy, and it certainly got boring the tenth time you watched it, compared to Maul duel which was rewatchable over and over again.

Mace Windu skills just didn't show in Episode II.

His character does not need to be a great fighter, however, the cult built up around him does. Again, Mace Windu, played by Samuel L Jackson represent two forces. The forces of pulp fiction, and the forces of fanplay. For years now, fans have been intergrating the scenes from Pulp Fiction, with phrases like "Its the one with BMF written on it" "What language is that, booch?" with fictional jedi. Yes, it was out of character with Jedi to do that. However, it also merged together two similar genres together.

Why do everyone assume that Mace will be like other characters SLJ have played just cuz SLJ plays him? He may not have worked in the eyes of some who thought that way, but to me, he's an awesome Jedi, because I see Mace Windu, not Sam Jackson.
I agree that the ANH duel get's boring, but I don't think Mace's fencing does.

In regards to SLJ representing pulp fiction I totally agree. When he's on the balcony with Dooku and says This parties over all I ever hear in my head is the Shaft theme music and Windu adding "Can you dig it?" at the end. Maybe it's just me...

How can anyone claim that the duel in ANH is boring?!?

The scene is so short, yet the dialogue is so pivotal; I can't imagine tiring of it....

cool Mace Windy,
too windy for spoilers!

LOL. Naw we don't need the EU for that. It says his name on the card the action figure came with. grin

I'm not to up to par on the PT EU but I wonder if Mace has has been developed to have this reputation because he is played by SLJ, who tends to play rather cool characters?

**Disclaimer**
I'm not attempting to start an EU debate. I'm just furthering a conversation happy

I just think Mace is a great character. He has a unique style among Jedi, being the leader of the Jedi council along with Yoda and brandishing a purple lightsaber. SLJ's look really fits the name Mace Windu as well.
