I originally discovered this piece of dialogue while reading the comic adaptation and it immediately struck me that it should have been left in the film. I forgot about it, then saw it in someone's signature and just found it in the novelization as well, so I thought I would post it.

It is something Padme says to Anakin in the tunnel, just before they are carted out to the Arena to be slaughtered.

It comes after "I think our lives are about to be destroyed anyway" and before "I truly, deeply love you."

She says: "My love for you is a puzzle Ani, for which I have no answers. I can't control it--and now I don't care."

I think this is the perfect piece of dialog for this scene and to explain their relationship.

If this dialogue had been left in the film, I never would have questioned their relationaship as being "forced" or even questioned their "ackwardness" or "lack of chemistry."

With these lines, it almost appears that she is being driven by the Force in some unknown way, that her character would not normally fall in love with Anakin, but she has somehow anyway, but cannot find an explanation for it.

I cannot believe this was cut out. It is, in my opinion, one of the most important pieces of their entire relationship.

Thoughts?

It's not that the Force is going against her natural inclinations, it's that her genuine love for Anakin is something her rational mind could no longer repress.

Her mind told her that she couldn't get together with Anakin, because of her duties as a Senator, and his duties as a Jedi Knight.

She admits to Anakin that she has feelings for him during the fireplace scene, but she says that despite the way she feels for him, it would never work out in the end.

Of course she ends up being right, but when faced with almost certain demise, she no longer saw a reason to hold it back anymore.

The Force isn't and all knowing, intelligent entity. It's an enery field that the Jedi can utilize through the midichlorines.

You're right though, that bit of dialogue would've made Padme's confession of her love a bit better.

I never had a problem with her love for Anakin, but that is one good piece of dialogue. It's a shame they took it out.

I would also like to have Jar Jar's hello to Anakin in the beginning inserted. I always felt it was awkward for him not to acknowledge Anakin. Out of character, really.

I guess my real question is for those who are not happy with the execution of the Anakin/Padme love story.

Would your thoughts be different had this dialogue been in the final film?

I liked it the way it was, but I also like this line quite a bit.

I don't know, I like her performance so far, I am sure she would pull it off.

It's a nice line, I wouldn't have minded it being in.
Still, doesn't hurt without it.

I wouldn't have minded having that line be in the film.

I think the line wuold've worked if slightly modified to:

"My love for you is a puzzle Ani, for which I have no answers. And sadly, neither does the audience, thanks to this horrific attempt at a love story in an action movie with convoluted political intrigue. I can't control it--but Lucas can, and he didn't." silly

Before peopel jump on me, I thought AOTC was fine. Just cracking a joke. In all seriousness, I think that line would've helped a bit too, all though it might come of as over the top as all the others.

I liked that line too...it's a shame it was deleted. I also miss Bail Organa's "We must stop them before they're ready!" line in Palpitine's office. It made his character more forceful.
Finally, Obi-Wan's "You haven't learned anything Anakin" in front of the nightclub worked too...showing his increased frustration with Anakin.
Ah, well...at least we have the book (and the trailers)...

Also the scene when they Land on Naboo un edited was far superior and made more sense than the chopped version. And the scene where she takes Anakin to see her family and is shown that she is starting to melt should also be left in.
To me the love story could not have been handled worse by George

Ah, well, we know the reason for that one. Obi-Wan was coming across as a little too harsh on Anakin, I think they added the elevator scene in the re-shoots as well as cutting this line to try to show that they're not always complaining like wet hens tongue

It wouldn't of mattered either way I think. The message was clear that Padme loved Anakin and that was the important part of the scene.
