The real twist of the PT revealed in AOTC
Its pretty clear that Palpatine and Dooku are the two Sith Lords, who in their alterante identities are the highest ranking officials on both sides of a Galactic Civil War (aka what will become the Clone Wars).
From their discussion at the end of AOTC, it would appear that the Jedi or the Republic becoming aware of the Clone Army is what Palpatine and Dooku wanted since Palpatine got emergency powers in order to comission the Clones as the army of the Republic to combat the Separatist forces.
"The war has begun."-Dooku
"Excellant, everything is going as planned." -Palpadidious
So, The entire clone wars is a manipulation of the Sith and that is the real twist of the PT.
How does that strike yall?

i think that the great twist of the PT is that anikan, the hero weve been going for this whole time, turns to the dark side and becomes the greatest evil the galaxy has ever known.
that is of course asuming you are watching the sw movies in order and dont already know what happens in the end.

Of course, most of us are aware of that from Episode I's depiction of young Anakin, but who would have thought that the famous Clone Wars were, in reality, a ploy of the Sith.
Edit: Hence the "real" twist, meaning the one that came way out from left field.

You have a good point, as when we heard of the Clone Wars in ANH, we thought it would be your regular good guy/bad guy thing, but instead it's all a ruse for Palps to gain power.

Well, to toot my own horn, I did too, but not until after I saw AOTC
. I figured everybody else realized it too, but after cruising through the 3SA for the last month, (I had been away for awhile) I find that's not the case so I figure I'd throw it out here.

i dont think it was much of a twist.
its actually kinda easy to figure out, since SW bad guys are always in league, and it all comes down to good guys vs. bad guys.

I totally agree that it doesn't take a PHD to figure out, but what I'm saying is essentially the good guys are fighting for the bad guy against the bad guy sidekick's forces and the bad guy and his sidekick set the whole thing up.
People have bashed the plotlines of the prequels, but I think that's a pretty sweet and inventive scenario, and I think it ranks right up there with "I am your father."

Not only was the clone war engineered by Palpatine but the Naboo invasion in TPM also, if you remember. I'm starting to wonder if the war between the Empire and the Alliance (ep. 4 to 6) wasn't engineered by Palpatine as well. After all, in ROTJ Palpatine tells Vader: "everything is proceeding as I have foreseen." Indeed, Palpatine seems to have been manipulating events right from the getgo and far into the future, using both allies and enemies to achieve his goal. A Machievellian prince par excellence. Brilliant!
my 2 cents

every SW movie has an end twist.
tpm= qui gon dies
aotc= dooku is a sith
anh= obi wan dies
esb= vader is lukes father
rotj= leia is lukes sister.
what would really have been suprising is if epII was juat a straightfoward, by the numbers affair.

I agree that it would have been unexpected to see that Dooku was in league with "The Phantom Menace" himself, had we not been spoiled by knowing his name is "Darth Tyranus", from action figure packaging. I mean, in AOTC, we don't even know that Tyranus is Dooku! Lucas is giving too much of his story away through merchandising. I won't even look at any merchandising or listen to the score this time.

I think Anakin should be made a more heroic hero in the PT. It would be really upsetting if Aragorn ahd turned on the fellowship or if Wolverine turned on the X-Men. Anakin in the PT is heroic but he seems too much of a loverboy and mama's boy. I still like him though and there is nothing we can do to alter the PT so I usually try not to complain and just accept it.

With all of the responsibilities that Lucas has making these films, I am sure that he is not the man handling the marketing and packaging of the action figures....
Mace Windy,
too windy for spoilers!
