Hmmm ... I wonder if you're just teasing some of us here, or baiting us!
Anyway, might I remind you of a few things?
"I think it was Padme's idea ... she's the one chasing after him in the second half of the movie."
Chasing after him? Hmmm, as I recall, she made it easier for him to do some things he wanted to do -- look for his mother, help Obi-Wan -- but couldn't, because of the orders of the Council, and his own need to be with her. It's quite clear in the balcony-meditation scene that his need to look for his mother and his need to protect Padme were tearing him in half. He also wanted to go and help Obi-Wan, but there was that little matter of following Mace Windu's orders -- and again, how could he leave Padme unprotected? She gave him a way out of both problems by "going along for the ride", and I certainly didn't see him complaining! In fact, he was HAPPY to have her along, and he jumped at the opportunity to do all those things WITH HER -- can you imagine what would've happened to him if she wasn't there at the Lars Farm to keep him from falling apart?
"Anakin seemed surprised by her declaration of love ..."
Remember, she did say that she had better things to do than fall in love. And they did agree not to take the relationship further, even though there's an unspoken acknowledgement of what one feels for the other. He seems to have resigned himself to that, so when she declared herself, it was like his every dream come true.
"Anakin never told Padme that he loved her ..."
Hmm, someone tell me again, who wanted to give up his entire future to jump out of a troop transport and rescue Padme? ("You'll be expelled from the Order!" "I don't care!") Sure wasn't Obi-Wan ...
My dad never said outright that he loved my mom, my sister and me, but we knew he did by everything he's ever done for us. Ever heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words"? Some men say the words "I love you" so easily but don't really mean it, while some love so deeply that those three words simply don't begin to describe the depth of their devotion. Dunno about you, but I'll take the latter one any day of the week.

It doesn't seem in keeping with Anakin's love of Padme to allow her to be zapped by Palpy, no matter how much of a threat Palpy might be to him. In addition, as others have said, it would cheapen their love story incredibly.

Forgot this comment for Anakin-Player ...
"Padme wanted a fmaily and children ..."
Who's to say that Anakin doesn't want the same thing? Remember, in the book, we see what a wonderful time he had with Padme and her family. Brief though it was, the time with them gave him a glimpse into the warmth and security of family life -- and yes, the innocence of childhood -- both of which he had precious little of on Tatooine.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but deep inside us I'm sure we've all promised ourselves that we'll give our children all the things we didn't enjoy during our childhood. Isn't it possible that Anakin thought the same, and wanted to do all that with Padme?

It's a classy song. She's basically saying, "No Players, Thanks!" I've had so many romantic words slung at me, most of which weren't heartfelt but simply designed to allow someone to GET something I wasn't interested in giving. Want, want, want. lol I could almost write my own version of it.

Agreed! AotC may not go to the degree some classical films have to develop the love story, but there's enough proof there on Anakin's part that you know he's not kidding.

Yup, ladies should definitely keep that "Put up or shut up" policy in mind!
Hmmm ... "hiding behind middle-age spread and walls as thick as Mt. Olympus". Rutger Hauer aside, that's the thing about us ladies ... we know heroes don't always come in glamorous packages. The prince isn't necessarily the drop-dead gorgeous guy with a Rolex and a Porsche. Give me rather a "prince among men", with a heart of gold, a spine of steel, and a soul that would make the angels sing -- and the courage to show me he's in for the long haul.
Wonder when the men will finally catch up with us when it comes to recognizing heroines?
Uh - oh, I think I'm getting a bit sappy and off-topic here, so I'll keep quiet for a minute.
