	Happy Place - :o !!! I know you are kidding. Actually I'm impressed that a movie could generate this kind of discussion. "Just a kids movie "- indeed!! Who are they trying to kid. The adults far outnumber the kids around here. (Kids meaning under 18, by my definition). DB, OK Zam, when are you going to get the hell out of my head here???? Aww come one admit it.. you like me.. And besides. you're the one in my head silly. Perhaps that's another reason we "older' ladies enjoy the love story... I said in an earlier post that I remember my own "Anni" in my life.. we were in our 20's and disgustingly in love... it wasn't all about sex back then either (ironicly, we started dating when he was 18 and I was 23!) but all the gushy sweet "love you mores".... we split up after we "grew up" if you understand.... 3 years off and on untill we finally called it quits for good. Funny thing is, after all these years, I still 'miss him' and when a mutal freind told me he was getting married to a gall he'd been seeing for the last 5 years (thankfully, he met her many years after we'd gone our separet ways ) I had to "run away" for the day.... I went down to the beach and had a little cry. I mean, I know that if we'd met now we'd doubtfully give eachother a second glance but still... I am just getting over getting out of a almost 10 year roller coaster ride with my Anakin. In this case he was almost 8 years my senior. We started going out I was 22 he was 29 (almost 30). He was very much an outgoing charming, good looking, fun loving, emotions on his sleeve person. HE also had a very dark side, and a serious anger problem. (there is more also, but I won't go into that). I was young and lonely and very inexperienced. We jumped way to far way to fast, adn before we know it we were "shaked up" with a kid. Things soon started to go down hill from there. We loved each other, but that was not enough. I had my issues, he had his, and in the end we both got hurt very badly. Things, well I just say it got ugly and leave out the details. Even if Palpy were not in the picture, Padme would be in for a very tough ride. Guys like Anakin desperately need our love, but they can often be the hardest guys there are to love. He has a serious anger problem, and while in his case he wouldn't hurt her, I can see him loosing his temper, and her not backing down and things quickly escalating once the bloom is off the rose, and the newness and the "I can't get enough of you" dies down in favor of the realities of everyday life. When the honeymoon ends it can be a rude awakening. They are both very strong willed and well.. part of the draw is that many of us women have had Ani's in our life in one way or another. And that may be part of the fascination. They are the most intriquing type of person. And thru them I maybe some of us, can go to anther place and other people and .. 	FYI there are rumors abounding... Labor day AOTC will be released in IMAX form. The rumors are circulating that new scenes will be edited back in. Can we hope some will belong to the Love Story? 	Hmmm... Again, I really don't want to rise to the bait and try to make this a simple gender/age issue - I don't think it is that easy. However, I do have to take some issue with the suggestion that those who "like" the romance are looking more deeply into the characters than those who do not. Rather - and I suggest this with all due respect - I would suggest that at least some of you who are all aflutter over the romance are PROJECTING elements into/onto the characters that are simply not supported by the films (again, to be fair, I judge the characters based on what is shared in the movies alone). The movie does NOT establish Padme as romantically or sexually inexperienced, and to the extent that we know anything about her, she has been portrayed as a woman of ASTONISHING (planetary ruler at age 14 - by ELECTION?) intelligence, sophistication, character, experience, etc. Anakin certainly has charm, in a boyish, youthful way, but he also has boyish arrogance, immaturity and anger. The romance, for plenty of understandable reasons, is really a CLIFF NOTES romance, sketched at a very superficial level, and I think that is behind many of the critiques... to suggest it is much more than one might find in a typical HARELQUIN romance is a stretch. And that, I suspect, is the rub.... if ya like that brand of bodice ripper, think the Anakin/Padme thing works (IF you project a lot onto them)! Shadow

	Hey, I say to each his own. I still say I saw what I saw, and so will those people who saw nothing. (Did THAT sentence make any sense?) Here is the thing, many people DID see all these things we've been talking about, people who are NOT SW fans and people who ARE. I think there will ALWAYS be difference of opinion about romance--I did not see any in Spiderman, while some other people thought it was obvious. Our ideas of what romance constitutes differ, that is the joy of being human. I think the main, most important point here, is that GL managed to do (with most of us) what he set out to do: make us see that Darth Vader was not born totally evil. That he had a very real human side that a lot of us can relate to (or even find incredibly sexy!) In that, we have to give the man credit. I would have loved to see more of the love story, to see it explored fully, but that is not the SW universe. However, I did not get the impression that GL was trying to put an Anakin on screen that could make all of us go: what an evil little bstrd, no wonder he became Vader! I think many people's reactions are colored by what they know of Anakin's future. GL DID want to make us rejoice when Ani save his son in that final duel with Darth Sidius at the end of RotJ, though. And that he has already managed with me.

	One more comment! About Padme's romantic experience: To me, the little picnic scene where Anakin asks her about boyfriends and she says she only had the one crush when she was 12 (!) indicated that there has been NO romantic attachments in her life since then. Between 12 and 24 is a long time! And just the way she talked about Palo indicated an immature crush. ("He had dreamy eyes.") So, JMO, but I seriously think Ani was the first guy in her life for many, MANY years.

	Breezy...I'm with you.... Those smouldering eyes 4 feet wide.... Here's a bit from the article that I got that bit of info from (it's in the AOTC and IMAX thread started by DarthKarma): The IMAX format has impressed technicians at Lucasfilm saying that the larger screen can present the Star Wars films in a photograph format never before seen in a major blockbuster release. Lucasfilm has outlined that almost 60 per cent of IMAX screens are not digitally projected, however the print can be formated to a 70mm analogue projection. Lucasfilm has been outlining future plans for the DVD release of the entire saga and have analysed that a Full Screen version and Widescreen version of the release, including full digital support for the DVD players of the future. 	I think Padme has comparatively more experience than Anakin does in these matters. Well, if Padme was knowledgeable and experienced in matters of love, she would either make it crystal clear to Anakin that no such relationship was possible if she didn't want it, or not send out so many mixed signals if she was. The script for Episode 2, the novelization, the existence of additional scenes on Naboo that were subsequently cut all point to the opposite: she is experienced and knowledgeable about public affairs, but not with respect to romantic relationships. What we see in AOTC is consistent with this view: Padme is struggling with her feelings regarding Anakin, and sending out mixed signals.

I don't know how far we are from stretching the truth, but women tend to believe they understand Padme more. and it is understandable that way. the way we think about things are kinda inuitive, sometimes directly drawing from experience. and women tends to be more sympathetic, when they are <ahem> in the right mode <ahem>. no wonder we end up with something different. <you_fill_in_the_blank> is in the eye of the beholder.
