I know Sam Jackson picked purple for the heck of it and personal preference but it'd be interesting if they ended up giving some meaning to the purple coming from a blend of red and blue. I don't think it'd ever happen though.

And I think Mace is and will stay a good guy but some others here are bringing up some good points against that.

Lucas did say before the PT came out,that betrayal was going to be a big part of it. I think he is just setting up a "who done it" type of thing. Samuel L. Jackson did tell Lucas that he doesn't want to die like some punk. I thought that was an odd choice of words for him to use. "Some Punk" I don't think mace is the traitor, but Lucas could go that way if he wanted to.

someone has personal issues. when I said "those guys" I meant family members. I read somewhere that lando is related to mace in one way or another.

so it runs in the family.

being black has nothing to do with it.

only a jedi can erase datas? right, Dooku was a jedi, and moreover his bust is just over Obi-Wan's shoulders... (remember last scene of the Phantom Menace, when Yoda talks about the Mater of Sith and the face of Palpatine immediately appears...)
he's nervous? it's just obvious, how could he be calm with that big question of the Clone army, of the separatists and so on. even Yoda seems quite nervous.

yes, i think too they've been played. But if the Sith are only two, and we know Palpatine and Dooku are Sith, what's the problem about Mace?

immortal. you know when you see something for the first time. and you just dont get it.

you know. like when you buy potatoe chips, but you never know how much fat is in them? until you had em for a while?
and then you realized they cause heart failure.

this is the same feeling i get when i watch mace. you have to go see the movie and just look at him. all the time.

everyone should get a notebook and go see the movie. and concentrate on mace. write some notes or something. and watch episode 1. I dont know. buy the dvd or whatever.

but can you tell mace is more concerned? yoda is not as much, or obiwan or anakin. no one is as concerned as mace windu. he clearly is afraid to be discovered. about something.

Jedi lightsabers- Blue blades (some have green as well)
Mace's lightsaber- Purple blade

Mace is the true balance of the force. He has the knowledge of both the light and dark and can blend the two seamlessly. Trying to tempt him to the darkside WITH the darkside would be stupid. He already knows it, has mastered it, and came up with a style of force weilding more powerful than even Anakin, Yoda, and Sidious.

The problem lies in his confidence. It seems like the Jedi go from trusting outwardly things (false pophecies of Chosen Ones, Clone Troopers since Jedi are not SOLDIERS) to, trusting instincts (not mechanical devices such as targeting systems), or even your own eyes, they can deceive you.

Mace is the number one Jedi. The rest are jealous and realize Mace's truth only after he dies and decide to teach Luke using the same philosophy.

Amen to that.

If the character Mace was being played by the typical Hollywood geeks like Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, or Russel Crow this wouldn't even be an issue. I think deep inside some people just can't accept seeing a black dude be a powerful good Jedi. SJ has been dogged ever since he got the role. The lowest point being the Mace raped Shmi rumors.

Like I said earlier and please answer me if you can. This goes out to anyone. Yoda has been a Jedi about 850 years. You mean to tell me Mace has been a Jedi for 50 years & he can cloud Yoda's mind and yoda not sense Mace is potentially evil?

Yoda SENSED THE DARK SIDE IN DOOKU!! That's because Dooku has only been dabbling with the dark side for 10 years and couldn't bury his feelings. Before you start your Palpentine argument, Palpentine has been a Sith his ENTIRE LIFE. I think it's safe to say Palpentine has mastered how to bury his feelings & cloud your mind a million times.

What's in it for Mace to betray the Jedi? He can't be second in command to Sidious. Sidious has an apprentice. Does Mace figure he'll just battle it out with Dooku? If Mace is a traitor why protect Anakin? Why not kill him when he's a kid if he's going to bring balance to the force? Does Mace see Anakin becoming a Sith? Remember if Mace can see that far into the future he must be dabbling in the dark side, and if he is Yoda would sense it.

Yeah Darth Rich you da Man! An' Homeless Jedi, first you read it some where then you wrote it? Which is it? That sound like some David Duke stuff to me! And yeah some of you people fail to realize that Mace be tha TOP Jedi with alot of brains about the game, he be like the Pope and he cares about Anakin because he wants to achive the climax like I have with the ladies.

Not true Disco Dooku. Using a red blade only means you don't follow the Jedi code. Sith are force users that are sworn enemies of the Jedi. The Jedi don't believe Dooku is a sworn enemy just a disgruntled political idealist. If what you are saying is true about red blades then Yoda and Obi Wan would think Dooku is a Sith. They don't. When Maul attack Qui Gon in the desert he'd would have known automatically he was a Sith. He didn't. Not until Maul used the dark side of the force in the battle of Naboo did they know he was a Sith. Red blade only means you don't follow the Jedi code. Not automatically you're a sworn enemy of the Jedi.

Texas Jedi - good points

The fact that SJ/MW is black to a moot point. Don't go digging for mythology or racism people.

1. My problem with Mace Windu is that he appears to be a created character for Sam Jackson. It is well know that Jackson wanted to be in SW and voila, Lucas creates Windu. And before the historian freaks get on me, I am well aware that Windu was in the early drafts of SW.

2. My other problem is that Windu serves zero purpose. He appears to be Yoda's yes man. Besides some lamely cut fight with Jango, Windu has done nothing that Yoda couldn't have done.

Now, I seriously doubt that GL created a paperthin character just to please SJ. Therefore, there must be a purpose to Mace Windu. So far, he has been almost non-existent in the movies. That leads me to believe that since he has been in the "shadows" through TPM and AOTC, that GL has something rather large in store for Windu in Eppy III.

If Windu does not prove to be a major plot point in Eppy III, then GL only created Windu to appease an overated "big name" actor.

I know I'll get flamed on this because he's the baddest MF in star wars . . . no fanboys, that was in Pulp Fiction. So far, he has sat idly by (with the aformentioned exception). He has to be a major plot point or that character is a waste.
