I wish to start off by saying I for one do not believe Mace is a bad guy. However, I just get bugged by people saying his light saer is purple just because the actor asked for it; the actor has nothing to do with the universe, whereas the CHARACTER he plays and the things associated with him do. It would be different if sam liked a BLUE lightsaber, and instead of giving him the original green that was intended he got a blue saber because he liked blue; that's fine, there have been other blue sabers. But there are no other purple sabers scene in THIS universe (the SW universe), at least, not in canon. So the purple saber distinguishes Mace as being special in someway, Mace, the character, not Sam Jackson, good friend of George who can get something hec wants from time to time. I remember a costume director saying there is a difference between CLOTHES and Costumes, even though in movies costumes are often the same clothes you and I would by. However, whereas clothes just tell you about a person's preferences, a costume tells you the story of the person, where they been, how they think; it's meant to give you inside into the character. You see someone prominent in a movie with a gucci bag, it's not just because that person likes Gucci. The director or storyteller is telling you something about that person. They are rich, stuck up, like to show off, trying to accomodate for something, likes to be seen, whatever, but they give clues to the character, not the ACTOR's preferences. Mace having a PURPLE lightsbaer is significant beyond the fact the sam wanted the color purple. I am sure others wanted different colored lightsabers, and I am sure some people who have played jedi might have wanted red sabers, since they can look cooler. There was a reason Mace got a different-colored saber from everyone else. While why this is so may or may not be revelaed, and it not won't ruin the SW experince for me, it would be nice for some background to be given, officially (canonical).
My thoughts? He is the chairman of the councuil. Perhaps the chairman always gets a different sword to establish who he is.

you're right, I mean Mace is one of the top hombre's in the Jedi Order, he should get to decided what color he wants. Who's going to say NO, one of the little tykes Yoda was training?

a director always gets what he wants. i dont care how buddys sam and lucas are. he is not going to let him choose the color..that story was all made to distract you people from the reality. like i said..being that the jedi council represent the crhistian apostles and anakin being the choosen one..just like jesus (mother a virgin)
there must be a traitor and it has to be one the least that comes to mind. no one tought that juda was a traitor and he was. i think there is something to this.

Don't forget this is associated to the fashionable view of what external and visual traits characterise a 'bad guy'.
As said about 'Unbreakable' in which the link to comics is very large, Samuel L Jacksons hairstyle, clothing, his 'difference' to other people were all hints as to him being the villan.
It could be so for Star Wars too, that the purple lightsaber indicates Mace Windu's ambiguity. But not so by default.
We also see that the 'look' and visual characteristics of atypical bad guys and heroes have changed with fashion and time.
For instance how many heroes are now not clad in black outfits? Which was 'the' trademark of bad guys.
Good examples are: Men In Black, The Matrix (The 'good' rebels wear black or purple outfits often with long coats while the 'bad' Agents wear respectable suits.), City of Angels (The angels wear black overcoats.).

How do we actually know for sure that Yoda suspects that Mace is a traitor?
Again I do not adhere to the theory that Mace is a traitor since I fail to see any motivation on his behalf.
(He could be nonetheless there just is no definate proof to indicate that he is or is not.)

I do believe that in the scene at Chanceloor Palpatine's office Yoda looks at Palpatine and not at Mace.
In the other scenes I do not really see Yoda looking at Mace in any definate way that would surely show he thinks Mace is a traitor.
It is possible, those could be hints and clues. But it is not sure and you could still be misinterpreting it.

mace erased the files from kamino, only a jedi could do that. a jedi that has priority one in the jedi archives. a jedi that can be trusted. a jedi that is there all the time..inside the jedi temple. had to be mace... it is clear that mace ordered the clones with syfo-dyas, as he tried to cover for it and change the subject on the scene when obi was was transmitting from kamino.. it is clear that he was a bit tense and scared to be caught, by yoda. and there...yoda gives him that look again. but he cannot read mace's mind. as he countinually says the dark side of the force is hard to see. he is telling him right in his face that he knows it's him. they seem to be on opposite sides..yoda and mace..one believes the force is and the jedi order is over(mace) ...the other one believes..there is still hope and the good side will always win. on a council there will always be a power struggle. and in the end yoda will win. oh yeah samuel jackson said he wanted to go out with a bang. i think he will get his chance..he's going to have his dream come true...fight yoda himself..

Maybe Yoda looks at Mace strangely a few times because Mace hasn't got a clue what's going on......
Like the several times Yoda is aware of what's going on with Annakin through the force but Mace doesn't show an inkling of knowing anything.
Or how about in TPM when they're testing Annakin?
"A speeder. A this. A that." says Annakin.
Right every time.......
So Mace looks at Yoda & nods that he's correct.
Like Annakin would be able to tell what's on the screen without looking but Yoda wouldn't?

That's possible but we don't know that for sure. You can believe that but there's no proof. (Yet.)

Why not any other Jedi? Plus I believe Jocasta Nu the librarian would have more knowledge and privileges with the Library's systems than Mace Windu.

I think the Jedi trust most if not all of the Jedi. (Else if they needed an internal police and surveillance they wouldn't really be Jeid anymore would they?)

Mace Windu is not always at the Jedi temple, he goes out on missions as well. Also there's no time index for exactly when Kamino was erased from the Archives.

The Jedi Council doesn't work that way, it is not about power.
If you do think and believe that then you have no clue what the Jedi are really about, then you're in error just as Dooku is. The Jedi and Jedi Council are about knowledge, peace, serenity. Some Jedi Council seats are temporary positions and it is there not to project power, but wisdom, knowledge, understanding -of the Force-.
