Which Yoda do you like best; the old puppet or the digital one. IMO the old puppet Yoda was my favorite. The old Yoda had a much bigger role, and many more fascinating qoutes then the new digital one. What's your opinion?

CG Yoda. It will always be the same Yoda to me no matter what they use to show him onscreen, but seeing high-shots of Yoda walking, and seeing more lifelike movements made me enjoy CG much better.

I like the character. How he's realized on screen is irrelevant to me.

A lot of people are going to like the puppet more for nostalgic reasons, that's the Yoda they grew up with.

I like the old puppet better, I don't totally agree with durwood, to me the technology used to create a movie creature is sort of like which actor portrays them, that said the writing is still the most important part, and I don't feel Yoda is written very well in the PT or has anything very important to say or do, ulitmately that is why I find the newer Yodas to be less impressive, because he feels gratitiuis and unimportant at this point.

I was a real skeptic of the CG Yoda. However, after seeing the film at the theater and on DVD, I realy liked the CG version which still showed many characteristics of the puppet but has realistic mobility.

I totally agree with you Rebel Scumb. Yoda's portrayal in the PT has a lot to be desired.

jedi-jeff: It's not just about how he looks. It's also about his portrayal in the plot.

I too was skeptic of CG Yoda the first time I heard about it. However, I was very pleased at how well detailed he was, and how true ILM kept Yoda to Frank Oz's original work in the OT.

I jsut find all the jedi do is sit around and say "this is troubling" or "difficult to see this is" I don't like them, and I won't feel bad when they die, the stuff Yoda says in ESB is truly magical and philospical and brilliant and right now it jsut feels like yoda is in the pT because most fans would be mad if he wasn't, but so far I don't think he's really been nessesary in anyway, I think that AOTC and TPM could just have easily been written without his presence and the plot would remain more or less unchanged.

The problem is Yoda doesn't have a big enough part in the PT plots.

Or he's in the films mroe then he should be, considering his importance.

I think he looks good excpet int he close ups, Its not ILMs best work IMHO, I think the geonosisans, kamanions, jar jar, and especially watto are all superior.

It might of been a good idea to mix cgi and the puppet.

The thing that really surprised me when I watched 'puppets to pixels' was that they didn't use motion cpature in anyway with frank oz. I figured they would rig somekind of version of the puppet, sans skin, with all the little dots on all the joints then have frank oz puppeteer as per usual, seems like an easier way to do it, plu you get the frank oz effect. Meh what do I know.

I like Yoda, plain and simple. As one of the thousands of original Star Wars fans (I hate to sound elitest, but many of you weren't even born when the OT came out.), I grew up with the puppet Yoda. I was never skeptical of the CG Yoda concept. To me, it was only natural for the sake of making Yoda seem like...well, less of a puppet. And you know what? It worked. Yoda rocks in AOTC.
