There are a lot of reasons why they're separating. Dooku/politicians - outwardly talks of the corruption in the senate. Commerce guilds - want to make more money.

Nute Gunray is a member of the Sepratists, and he was involved in that little dust-up over Naboo trade routes, a matter which the Republic put an end to and not in his favor. So by way of extrapolation, we can conclude that the Sepratists are those who feel that they have been treated unfairly by the Republic.

Honestly, it's not that hard to figure out.

Wait a second...is that right? Last time I watched TPM, Queen Amidala tried to get the rest of he republic to help her, failed miserably, and said something about not letting her people die whilst they sat around discussing it in a commitee. She then flew back to Naboo and, after a few exciting adventures, settled the matter herself by getting Nute Gunray to discuss a new treaty whilst pointing a blaster at him.

Hmmmm...

How on earth would someone work that out??! It's not even in the film!

This being the second chapter of the story, perhaps the answer lies in chapter one? Just a thought.

----------

She then flew back to Naboo and, after a few exciting adventures, settled the matter herself by getting Nute Gunray to discuss a new treaty whilst pointing a blaster at him.

Ah, so we take a bit from chapter one and a bit from chapter two to arrive at the obvious answer: following his humiliation at the hands of the Queen, Nute Gunray was railroaded through the Republic justice system (10 trials, according to Sio Bibble) and no doubt felt that an injustice was done to him. The dude obviously has a bone to pick with the Republic.

As for the rest of the sepratists, use your imagination!

"There, you see Lord Vader? She can be reasonable!"

Ahh, I see what you're saying Durwood. It's easy to figure out that the seperatists are people who feel they have been unfairly treated by the Republic because Nute Gunray's dispute with Naboo over the trade routes was ended by the Republic in a manner unfavourable too him...until someone points out that the Republic sat on its hands doing nothing and it was Queen Amidala who sorted it out with the help of a rather stylish silver blaster, at which point it becomes obvious that Nute Gunray hs a bone to pick with the Republic because of the sense of injustice he felt after having gone on trial 10 times.

Riiiiiiight.

Lucas should get theater chain emplyees to hand out copies of Star Wars Episode III For Dummies at every possible showing of the film. And even though everyone hated Episode I and II with an undying passion, the Star Wars Episode III For Dummies CD kit will still sell around 10 billion copies.

"But Brandon, there aren't even 10 billion people in the world!"

That's my point.

Riiiiiiight.

I have presented reasonable conclusions drawn from evidence easily found in the story. Your argument: "Is not!". Hmmm...which of us has the stronger argument?

Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope
Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars Episode VI Return of the Jedi
Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace
Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones
Star Wars Episode III For Dummies

Hey, I like it! It really captures the spirit of those zany 1930's serial films! Ok, when I first read the title I thought it sucked, but it's grown on me. I mean, The Empire Strikes Back sounds pretty cheesy when you think about it. I think over time people will see how well Episode III's title fits the film.

grin wink

"Serial movie making died long ago for a reason"

The thread title ignores the obvious. Lucas said at the beginning he loved those old serials when they had terrible production values and he felt if the same type of movies from that era were done first class, they'd be successful. They're an affectionate homage. A couple of billion dollars later at the box office, I'd say Lucas was right.

Errr, no Durwood. Try reading my post again. You presented a flawed conclusion based on a misreading of events in TPM. You presented this flawed conclusion as being "not that hard to figure out". When I pointed out your mistake you changed your conclusion, saying your new conclusion was "the obvious answer", without actually acknowledging your previous mistake. I just found that slightly amusing.

Pooja

Hey, I knew that you dip tongue I just took your joke and improved it a little by taking it in a different direction, kinda like what TESB did with SW.

laugh laugh laugh

My point is, before it got all muddled up in your hairsplitting exercise, as far as Nute Gunray is concerned, he was treated poorly by the Republic, whether it was through a representative like Queen Amidala or the Republic courts. Regardless of your picking at minutia, this is a reasonable conclussion based on the events presented in the story.

...without actually acknowledging your previous mistake.

I acknowledged no mistake because I never made one.

Look , all the seperatists are bad guys who want to do bad things without the good republic telling them not to. I say this with all honesty, it isn't hard to figure out.

A fine example of Ockham’s Razor in action.
