Brilliant, I like the Darth Vader and Darth Maul sketches.
And kit Fisto is always cool. cool

I just started college a few weeks ago and don't believe there
is a comic shop anywhere near by. So I may have to wait till the
semester is over before I am able to find and read #25. But that is cool
that your finally drawing for the comics. grin

Dark Horse has put a 4 page preview online of "Empire" #25 which features Joe's art!

You can see the preview for "Empire" #25 here. happy

Those pages look terrific Joe! I can't wait to see the rest of the issue, especially your rendering of Han looks perfect! (And more accurate than Jeff Johnson's who did "Empire" #24.)

Thanks GoD! Believe it or not, I think the pages actually get better from there. The first 5-6 pages felt a little inconsistent to me after I did them since I felt like I was just warming up. Page 7 though is where I hit my stride in the story. There's a few pages I wish I could go back and redraw but overall I'm really happy with my first Star Wars comic happy

Now I'm just standing by anxiously awaiting for Randy to throw another assignment my way. There doesn't seem to be too many openings at the moment since he has a full stable of artists but I'm crossing my fingers that this isn't the last time I get to draw a Star Wars story for them. If you like this issue be sure to sound off on the DarkHorse.com message boards in the SW forum and let the editors know what you think.

Empire #25 ships soon, October 20th, I can't wait!
By the way, I'm offering one of a kind, exclusive Clone Wars and Heritage sketch cards on eBay currently. To check them out just click the 'My Art on eBay' button on my left side navigation of my official site. Feel free to bid and support your friendly neighborhood SW artist or let me know what you think if you're interested.
Thanks everyone!

Hi Everyone!

My first (and hopefully not last) Star Wars comic book for Dark Horse, Star Wars: Empire #25, is on sale right now so be sure to pick up a copy and feel free to share your thoughts here. And if you really liked it I would greatly appreciate any positive feedback in the Star Wars forums at the Dark Horse message boards happy

Hopefully everyone will really enjoy this comic book and maybe Dark Horse will hire me to draw more Star Wars for you in the near future (crosses fingers).

If you are in or near Columbus next weekend, on Sat. October 30th, I'll be doing a signing at the best comic book shop in town, The Laughing Ogre. Check my Appearances Schedule on my home page for directions to the store and more information.

I just returned from the Motor City Comic Con this past weekend as well and had a great time meeting all the SW fans there. I've got two big shows coming up back to back next month. First, Super Megafest in Boston Nov. 20th and 21st (also featuring Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels) and then it's back to Columbus for Mid-Ohio-Con Nov. 27th and 28th. My pal and fellow SW artist Jan Duursema will be there so make sure drop by the World Famous Comics booth if you can and say hi.

I've got a new SW project that's really cool coming up but I won't divulge too much yet for fear of invoking the 'whammy 'as my pal Tom would put it. It's almost a done deal so if it goes through expect some new full color SW art (featuring two of my favorite characters) from me soon.

I'm also really hoping to create some new, very special and hopefully exciting artwork for Celebration III next April. If Steve Sansweet approves me for the project I'll be really ecstatic since this is a hometown show for me (I was born and raised in Indy and all of my family is still there and will be coming to see me at the show).
Hopefully that'll work out and I'll come through for you guys and the rest of the SW fans out there with a new piece of SW art.

It's an exciting time to be a SW fan and even more exciting for me to be a SW artist. I hope this is just the start of things to come...

MTFBWY!

Ah, Joe. You saved that issue. I thought the story was...well...not good but you art saved it for me. Nice job especially on the ships and such.

I agree. the story didn't get to me but the art really grabbed me. I like the coloring technique. The vehicles looked great and Vader was awesome. Details like Han looking dead-on.
DHC would be crazy not to have you do more work.

Again, it was great to see this issue with your art in it!

Looking forward to that new SW project you said features your 2 favorite SW characters!
And, Sansweet had better approve of you doing some cool art for CIII! For you as the local hometown SW artist, you can't get any better than that happy

Nice job on Empire #25!!!

I did have one question: Do you use some already existing photos and then build a scene around them?

Reason I ask is there's a panel of Chewbacca (where Sheel asks for his help) that is amazingly like the one of Peter Mayhew from starwars.com "hyperspace"

There's also a couple Han Solo poses (including the "Rolling Stone" cover), that are in the escape scene. Again, you did a great job capturing the classic image of two of the main characters in the OT!

*Fingers crossed* Hoping you get another DHC comic, and since you are illustrating a Mandalorian article for SW Insider, I would absolutely LOVE to see you do a Mandalorian story (your Boba rocks Joe!) for Republic, Empire or Tales happy
Hey, with the Death Watch still around on Endor (see Star Wars Galaxies game) and the Mandalore planet from Marvel, surely it could happen ...

Goes to poke Randy, ok ok joking. I know Randy and Jeremy are really over-worked at mo, and they don't need a Mandalorian-poke lol.

So what future stuff that you are doing that you can reveal Joe? cool

Thanks Wil! The cat's out of the bag now since SW author Abel Pena and I have discussed our latest project for Insider over in the Literature forum. The two characters I was referring to were Boba and Jango Fett and I recently drew them in an illustration together (along with a bunch of other pieces) for a an extensive Mandalorian article coming up for SW Insider #80. I think EU fans are really gonna dig this one, Abel out did himself. If you liked our Emperor's Hands article from Gamer or our Grand Admirals article from Insider you should enjoy this one too.

By the way, I'm still talking with Steve about the possibility of doing something art related that would be special and exclusive to CIII. Nothing has been decided yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something works out and the opportunity presents itself.

Nice job on Empire #25!!!

Hi Krash! Thanks for stopping by and saying hi at Mid-Ohio-Con. It was good seeing you again.

I like working from photo reference as often as possible especially when it comes to established characters since it makes my artwork feel more cinematic to me, more in tune with the actual films, which I enjoy connecting my artwork with.
Sometimes using certain phot references does dictate the composition for me and other times the page or panel layout comes from my mind's eye and the photo ref becomes more complementary.
It just depends on the part of the story and the idea I'm trying to convey with my artwork. As a comic book artist I love drawing from my imagination too and there is always plenty of opportunity in my art SW art for that as well happy

Working with such classic characters like Han and Chewie really was a treat. I was just hoping fans would find my artwork had did them justice.
Thanks for picking up Empire #25 and for enjoying it!

*Fingers crossed* Hoping you get another DHC comic, and since you are illustrating a Mandalorian article for SW Insider, I would absolutely LOVE to see you do a Mandalorian story (your Boba rocks Joe!) for Republic, Empire or Tales

Drawing a Boba Fett story would just plain rule. You should just see the amount of photo reference I've been able to acquire on him from various sources over the years. I love the insane amount of detail in his costume and if I were to some day draw a Boba Fett (or Jango Fett) story I would just flip out happy I revere Cam Kennedy's work with the character in his Dark Horse one shots and though I couldn't reach Cam's artistic level I'd be beside myself with joy the whole time trying wink But just getting to draw Boba and Jango for the Insider article was so cool too. I put everything I had into my drawing for that piece and I'm hoping everyone really digs it.
I'd really love to do more for Dark Horse soon so we'll see what happens.

As for future and current SW projects I can't divulge any info right now. And I'd *really* love to, honest! I'm really excited about one SW project in particular that I'm working on and another one coming up for me in the near future but since nothing has been officially announced yet I have to keep quiet for now happy

In the meantime though you can check out my latest SW illustration for Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in this gallery at my official site...

http://www.joecorroney.com/cgi-local/imageFolio.cgi?direct=Star_Wars/Star_Wars_Misc_Art

This was a collaboration with SW artist Jeff Carlisle. Jeff does amazing digital color work and this was our third SW painting together.

Eeeaasst Siiiiiideeee in da house! (in my best gangsta voice). Born and raised in the Arlington area, went to Scecina Memorial High School. I left Tatooi- -er, Indy when I was 18 years old for a galaxy far, far away...

(ok, I only went three hours away to Ohio but at the time it seemed really far).

I'm super busy right now with my aforementioned SW projects but I'll get to your Sebulba sketch card soon! happy

That's awesome...went to Warren Central myself. Don't recall owning any droids...err, knowing anyone from Scecina while I went to high school (which would have been about the same time you were there (grad. 92)), but had a friend whom I met at Ball State who went there. Anyway...looking forward to seeing you at Celebration 3. Keep up the great work.

Hey Joe, I noticed that in this article on TOS about Chris trevas he mentions you're a friend of his- any chance you could throw an invitation to post here his way next time you speak? (or, do you know of any boards he does post to?)

It came to my attention just now that he was the artist "LonePigeon" who contributed some awesome stuff to the AOL SW Fan Club newsletter (the HoloCroN) in the mid 90's (which I worked on in a few roles)- if that's so, it'd be nice to say hi to him again (especially now that he's among former AOLSWFC folks who real SW gigs like Dan Wallace and Mary Franklin).
