When it comes to different religons, IMO, understanding is key. THe Aztecs believed in human sacrifices. THe Catholic Church believes drinking sacrifical wine and bread to truly be the body and blood of Jesus. In traitor jacen began to understand why the YV glorified pain. If memory serves correct, he was looking at the newly formed world and at the rainbow of colors in the sky. To paraphrase: "If they thought the Gods were so close via bridge, and there was so much pain on the world, it must be the will of the gods." True they are polythesitic, but many early religons were, as many still are. I think it is important to stay true to your own beliefs, but to declare another person or object horribe, or wrong just because of a differing opinion or belief is to be ignorant of your surroundings.

And that's fanaticism.

Chissdude, don't worry about being angry lately. A lot of stuff has gone on in the world and you're also becoming an adult. It can get confusing. Just try not to get too angry. It will pass, eventually.

Cannot be specific, but must say that Traitor was the best NJO novel yet. It was the first one that I could NOT PUT DOWN once I started reading. I had to read it all the way through in just a few hours, then I went back and read some parts of it over again.
I have been curious about Vergere since her first mention in the Obi-Wan/Anakin book (title?), and was fascinated by what she could tell Jacen if she wanted. I wanted her to tell him more but what she did tell him pleased me. All knowledge is not lost, after all. (trying not to be too specific)
I must also say that I was quite pleased with Jacen Solo, and his development. And that is saying a lot, because I think that outside of Danni Quee, he was my most despised NJO character. I only bought the book out of boredom. But I am so glad that I did. Now I am actually curious to see where Jacen goes from here.
Not very eloquent, I know. But please, everyone, accept a recommendation to read this book!

MW Stover
First, thanks a lot for taking the time to actually come and chat with us. You've thanked us fans in other threads, but at the same time, we can't thank you often enough for this opportunity to talk with and get to know the people behind the stories.
Personally, I've got to say that I loved Traitor. There was a great story and personal struggle in there, with a lot of great action scenes, and none of them being space battles (has to be a first for a SW novel). The entire of the struggle was philosphical, and psychological, and you got to the heart of it, not just telling us of the changes, but your style of writing actually showed it. It's a little unconventional, but I found it a much more interesting way to read. It followed the way you would be thinking, and the way in which you pose problems to yourself (specifically the start of the chapter Traitor, at the start of part 3).
As to anti-religious tones in the novel, I can't see any. But then this draws back to something that Matthew and others have said in another thread, in that we each take away our thoughts and opinions of a novel and it's events, and usually these are just as right, if not more so, than the author's. I came away with from reading this with new thoughts about belief (not of the religious kind, athiest) and truth, and of finding my place in the scheme of things. This reflects what I'm already wrestling with in my own head, and the same could be said of you chissdude.
Oh, and as for the comment about Traitor helping you sell more of your other books, there are at least going to be a couple more sales. I'm heading to the bookstore tomorrow morning to pick up BoT (which I was already wrestling over buying), and anything else that they have in stock. For as long as you keep on publishing, I'll keep on buying.
Thanks for your time, and I can't wait until Shatterpoint.

Thanks, M/K.
I hope to keep publishing for a long, long time -- my personal motto is "numquam desisto" which means (unless I was deceived by the Jesuit who translated it for me): "I never stop."
btw, you might want to check out HEROES DIE before BoT -- BoT is HD's sequel . . .

Mr. Stover -
Thank you so much for writing such a fantastic book. TRAITOR made me think, and that's pretty amazing. That's the most memorable reading experience there is. And thank you for being willing to answer questions here. That's pretty amazing, too.
What did you think of the cover art for TRAITOR?
I don't know if you can comment about this, but just out of curiosity, were there any errors that you had to correct while writing TR (i.e. minor continuity errors such as the color of a charcter's eyes, or other errors such as the mixup in REBEL DREAM with the 90-degree pipefighters)?
I'm not sure if this might aggravate that restraining bolt of yours, but have you ever frequented the official starwars.com message boards?
Do you use a thesaurus when you write?
I don't know if you'd have an answer for this, either, but do you like Ganner? As a person?
What was the hardest part about writing TRAITOR?
If you could have written a NJO book (following Allston's ENEMY LINES duology) about anyone, about anything, what would you choose to write about?
Troy Denning talked about the emotion he poured into writing a character's death. I believe he stated that he cried while writing Anakin's death. How do you write a meaningful, moving death scene like Ganner's?
Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions. It's very much appreciated.
.Flight.

I'm not terribly well-versed in latin, but I thought it was "never desist" or "never give up," not "I never stop."

Mast --
Roughly the same thing. I prefer "I never stop" largely due to the young Anthony Hopkins' performance as Richard Plantagenet in THE LION IN WINTER. Rent the movie. You'll understand.
Flight --
Several of your questions are answered in the "MWS interview" thread. For the others --
<<What was the hardest part about writing TRAITOR?>>
The knowledge that 300,000 hard-core SW fans were going to be dissecting every word I write. I wish I could please everyone. Obviously, that isn't possible.
<<If you could have written a NJO book (following Allston's ENEMY LINES duology) about anyone, about anything, what would you choose to write about?>>
Exactly the one I wrote. I wrote the book I wanted to write, about the characters I wanted to write about. I was just lucky that both LFL and Del Rey were willing to let me do that.
<<Troy Denning talked about the emotion he poured into writing a character's death. I believe he stated that he cried while writing Anakin's death. How do you write a meaningful, moving death scene like Ganner's?>>
The truth? I imagined myself to be Ganner, and wrote the death I wish mine could be. Now, to be sure: I'm a lover, not a fighter. This is not about going out in a blaze of glory. That's a metaphor. He went out the way I hope I'll go out: true to his highest hope for himself, to his very last breath. Thankful for the life he had led, but leaving it without regrets.
Isn't that what we all hope for?

I already posted my question in that interview thread in Lit, so I'll just say I like the way you wrote the little scene where Vergere learns about Anakin's fate. That would be a bombshell to anyone. I'm glad you realized she was missing for 50 years.
I can imagine if someone left Earth from Russia in 1900 and came back in 1940.
