Dan: are you any relation to the Daniel Wallace who wrote Big Fish?

No. But I'd love to get in a room with the Daniel Wallace who wrote Big Fish, the Daniel Wallace who wrote All About Fibromyalgia, and the Daniel Wallace who wrote The Basics of New Testament Syntax so we can all argue over who pops up first during Amazon name searches.

Dan

It mentioned in the NEGtC that Kyle Katarn's apprentices fought at Gyndine among other places. I can only think of two Jedi this could be, either Wurth Skidder or Klin-Fa Gi. Any offical word on who it is?

Hi Dan

If I understand this correctly, this is about the Essenital Guides.

Just a quick question: are there any plans for an updated Essential Guide to Ships and Vehicles, one that lists everything from old and new Episode movies?

That probably won't happen soon, as the cross-sections of Episodes 1 and 2 are still out there on shop shelves, and that would be like overloading the consumer market, wouldn't it?

But I'd love to get a Guide with all the ships and vehicles thus far!

Thank you

Hi Eyrezer and Excellence -- thanks for the questions!

Nope, no official word...at least not at this time. One of the reasons why Kyle Katarn's apprentices were phrased so vaguely in the NEGTC is to allow future authors to fit things in as need be. In fact, Greg Keyes' character Klin-Fa Gi, from "Emmisaries in the Void," didn't exist at the time of the NEGTC's publication. (On a similar note, see Luke's original 7 Jedi academy students. I still don't think all 7 have been nailed down in official sources!)

Hmm. While I know some info that would be helpful here, and I'd like to discuss in more detail, I need to allow publishers to do their own thing and release official info according to their timetable. But stay tuned. I think you'll be happy with some of the Star Wars projects coming down the pike.

Best,
Dan

Anyway thanks again

I received Star Wars Insider #65 yesterday, and I have to compliment you, Mr. Wallace. The Galactic Map was great, but what really got to me was the article you wrote on mapping the Star Wars galaxy. shock That is quite a feat you and the others pulled off. happy

Oh! shock I think it was Big Fish I saw somewhere that it was becoming a movie and then I saw your name. I wondered if it was you or not. wink After all, some of my college textbooks are written by Robin Williams. Not the Robin Williams, but a Robin Williams. A she too. wink

I actually have Fibromyalgia, and let me tell you, if I had ever seen that book, it would've floored me to see "your" name on it. tongue wink

Hold your baby strong, help me sing that old song
I think that one more drink, might do me right

Ah. Okay, there you go. Excellence, this what I was being overly-cautious in mentioning (due to publicity release schedules, etc.) The New Essential Guide to Vehicles & Vessels will include all the ships from Episodes I and II, and it's a great read. I can't wait to see the final. (I don't know who the art team is.)

I received Star Wars Insider #65 yesterday, and I have to compliment you, Mr. Wallace. The Galactic Map was great, but what really got to me was the article you wrote on mapping the Star Wars galaxy. That is quite a feat you and the others pulled off.

Thanks Bria! I haven't yet received my copy of Insider #65. I understand it comes with a new fold-out map, but if so, I wasn't involved with the placement of any new worlds on that particular map.

Best,
Dan

You're very welcome. happy In SWI #65 there is an article you wrote called Making the Map. I assumed that you had had a hand in working on the new one that was included, but even if you didn't, I think mapping the galaxy at at time is quite a task. I don't envy you and others that went to work on it at all as it took some doing to get it done.

That's great to hear, concerning the New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels releasing in October! I've succumbed to temptation and ordered the EGVV for now.

Just a question, though, if you know: combining Episodes 1-2, as well as any other new material, will it also contain all the old ones as well that we've already had? And just for curiosity, a lot of us from the Literature board wonder if the new Star Defender warship spoken of in the NJO series will also be included.

Thanks you.

The New Essential Guide to Characters should be your model. The new Essential Guides can't cover everything that was in their original counterparts, but they'll definitely cover all the classic "greatest hits" entries, especially if those entries have had a lot of new material added to them since the last go-around.

It's been a while since I saw the NEGVV text and I don't recall if the Star Defender was addressed or not.

I have a comment and a question. I was really pleased with Bevel Limelisk's bio in TNEGTC. Instead of copping out, and saying that the Geonosions designed the Death Star, and that Limelisk worked on it later, you've added to his back story so that he could still be the main designer of the Death Star. That was great. happy

Question, though: will the rather contorted design history of the Death Star be dealt with in more detail in The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels? All the pieces to the puzzle are there, I'd just like to see the dots connected officially (is that a mixed metaphor or what? wink )

TC

T.Card, that might not happen, as we don't have E3 yet, and so many things are just still in the dark.

A Death Star blueprint was seen on Geonosis, but has it been built or being built yet? Who actually designed it out? Raith Seinar proposed a like concept, which was modified to just a round ball, but all those countless levels and systems and subsystems? To say nothing of the superlaser technology itself.

Qwi, Lemelisk and Keldor could still have made their input.
