thanks agentsmith!!!
i suggested jorus and vima in the ostrander thread as well.
i said a while ago that i wondered why gl didn't use great character like quinlan for the movies - but i was sure glad about aayla.
and a lot of people bash dark empire - but i think jan and john might redeem it if they use JORUS (notice only 1 "U") in the ongoing series somewhere.
imagine if our favorite creative team decided to somehow tie "outbound flight" and the Yuuzan Vong into the PT era!!!!!
and as for VIMA DI BODA - jan and john's use of her character could tie into "splinter of the minds's eye" - one of the earliest works of EU in existence!!!
jan - should i cut and paste these thoughts into JO's thread?

No problem, I really think your idea is good. It'd be awesome if Jorus C'Baoth had a cameo somewhere, even if only just enough as to acknowledge his existence in that era, it would add some more depth to the Heir to the Empire Trilogy.
For Vima di Boda I personally feel a past shrouded in mystery suits the character well. (But that's just a personal thought.)
And for the Yuuzhan Vong in the PT Ep II era? Might want to check out 'Rogue Planet' sometime.

Wouldnt Jorus already be dead by the time the ongoing series is? With issue 46, its jumping to 24 years BBY...and the Outbound Project happened 31 years BBY.

"one idea i had was perhaps the dark lady = vima di boda????"
Doesn't really work out, because The Dark Woman gets killed by Darth Vader only a few months before A New Hope...and since Vima is alive as of 10 years after A New Hope...

MattPeriolat you are so lucky you got to be there man! I wish I had been able to attend.
And indeed you are right to thank Jan Duursema for all her great work and efforts. I feel likewise but am not able to be present and express that in person. Thank you as well Jan for all you do for us fans, for your hard work and your time.
MattPeriolat, in the John Ostrander thread you said that issue #49 will be about Quinlan with an appearance from Aayla. Only a cameo from Aayla and one issue? I would have liked more.
A 4 issue series like the current and most awesome 'Rite of Passage'? One can never have too much of Aayla I think.
It would be wonderful to see how the events of Episode II affect Aayla herself. What the backstory of her involvement is, how she feels about the ongoing events and relates to it.

John posted in his thread again, Aayla will have more than just a cameo. No worries.

That's great news! Just was getting worried there, but for nothing as it seems.
I'm sure once the time has come and we see or get our hands on those issues we'll be amazed at Jan Duursema's, John Ostrander's and Dark Horse's great work.
(I guess I fit into the hardcore junkie category John mentioned. Or perhaps obsessed Aayla fan? Mhhh ... I'm only joking people. My odd sense of humor at play, excuse me for that.)

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey JAN!
Rites of passage 1 & 2 rock. I also got a chance to see what you actually look like in some magazine called Sketch (or something like that). Here's something I noticed; your characters have some of your facial characteristics. I've noticed that in many artists, John Romita Jr. is a large bulkly man (yet short) which is why his characters have such 'mass' to them, Jim Lee has very sharp facial features, etc. I've noticed that Quin, Aayla, Tholme, etc., have some distinct facial features that you do. Do you do this on purpose or is this some kind of sub-conscience way of trying to emulate your characters? Or do you just draw that way?

Hi Jan
Tom Aka Villiemace here.
I am looking forward to Rite of Passage issue 3 which is coming out next week. Can't wait to see Quinlan, Villie and possibly Dooku again in the next issue. I have just found out about the exciting news from San Diego Comic con and I am looking forward to it with great interest. After seeing Attack of the Clones I had wondered what had happened next and how the Star Wars EU characters (Quinlan, Villie, Aayla and others) would be affected. I guess we will find out here.
I am pleased to hear that Tarkin may show up now and again. Although Villie and Quinlan and Yoda and Mace windu are my main favourite characters in Star Wars, I have enjoyed seeing Tarkin every so often as he is such an evil character to observe and his appearence in A New hope has always been a memorable one. I have been a fan of Peter Cushing (the actor who played him in A New Hope) for a few years ever since I saw him and Christopher Lee in some of the old hammer horror movies that they made back in the sixties. He made his first Chronological appearence in a star wars short story by James Luceno and i have enjoyed watching his rise to Grand moff in the subsequent novels in which he has been in. An idea that could be quite cool and a nod to the fans of Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing such as myself would be if you and Jan had a story in which Dooku and Tarkin appeared together. It would be very cool.
I think it is good that the jedi council have an unofficial investigation into the cause of the battle of Geonosis and use Quinlan Vos to set up a spy network for them. Even though there have been a lot of adventures of Quinlan Vos that we have seen, I have always thought of Quinlan Vos as a behind the scenes sort of character and him having a spy network is very typical of his character. Although I am not sure that the current schedule for the star wars comics being released in the future would allow it, I would be interested to see what quinlan vos was like as a jedi before he lost his memory. How much of a change has his character undergone since loosing his memory?
Anyway got to go
Best wishes
Tom Aka Villiemace

You can catch coverage of the San Diego Comic-con at theforce.net and at The Official Site starwars.com.
Starwars.com features an extensive article on the Dark Horse Star Wars panel where Jan Duursema was also present,
'All's fair in love, war and comics'.
The starwars.com photo 'snapshot' gallery also had this very nice picture of Ms. Duursema:
(I'm sad to have missed the San Diego comic-con I must say. ... But this can explain where Aayla's beauty was originally inspired from. -no offense meant, just a compliment and observation- )
