A Little Too Squeamish (OC's Lomina and Atril, humor)
Title:
A Little Too Squeamish
Author(s):
DarthBerryStraw
Characters:
OC Master/Padawan team - Lomina and Atril
Genre:
Humor, as usual!
Summary:
"In times like these, you either laugh or cry. Personally, I find laughing to be much more enjoyable."
Notes:
This was inspired by my aunt's squeamishness when it comes to her family getting injured. It's really amusing to witness.
This is the third vignette in my "Series of Unfortunate Vignettes." It's companion pieces are
Smothering
and
"Master, I passed out."

“Oh, Master. That’s disgusting!”
Padawan Atril stood over her injured Master. Lomina’s long limbs were sprawled on the damp jungle floor, squinting her green eyes as she tried to see Atril through the sunlight reflecting off the wet trees. Wincing, she sat up and slid herself to the base of a tree, leaning her back against it.
“What’s disgusting, Padawan?” Lomina asked, peeling her blood soaked pants away from her wound. A small, primitive tribe with nearly ancient weapons had attempted to ambush the Jedi team.
Atril strolled over to the base of the tree, then shuddered, turning away. “I can’t look at it!”
“Then it’s a good thing you’re not a healer, isn’t it?”
“I’d die of severe dehydration, thanks to my overactive gag reflex.”
Lomina began to pick dirt and twigs out of her leg, inhaling sharply every few seconds. After several minutes, she gritted her teeth and scanned the area for her Padawan. Atril had wandered several meters away, near their supplies. She was sitting cross legged with her back toward her lame Master, humming a simple tune to herself.
“Padawan!” Lomina called in a singsong voice.
Atril made no move to reply.
Lomina grabbed a small, twisted piece of wood from the jungle floor, and swiftly threw it at her Padawan.
Atril jumped to her feet, clutching the back of her head. “I was meditating, Master!”
“No, you were
not
meditating! Bring me the water; I’ll need to wash this.”
Grudgingly, Atril picked up one of the canteens. She strolled backwards, not wanting to see the blood oozing from her Master’s legs, for a few paces before tripping over a gnarled tree root. Her head bounced off the jungle floor with a
thunk
that left her screaming at the top of her lungs.
“It seems that the Force isn’t with us today, Padawan!” Lomina chipped. She seemed remarkably cheerful for a woman with a primitive bullet lodged in her thigh. She nearly chuckled at the sight of her Padawan’s legs flailing in the air with pure agony, when it was her head she’d landed on.
Atril rolled onto her side, turning her head to glare at her Master. She pushed herself into a sitting position, and eventually stood, still rubbing her head with one dirty hand.
“Why are you so happy, Master?” She grumbled. “It’s almost as disgusting as your leg.”
“In times like these, you either laugh or cry. Personally, I find laughing to be much more enjoyable. Now, come and assist me!”
Atril dragged her booted feet over to where her Master sat, and dropped the canteen.“Yes, Master?”
“I need you to hold my leg while I pull the bullet out.”
The Padawan blanched, and violently shook her aching head to the point of dizziness.
Lomina narrowed her eyes. “Unless
you
want to pull it out?”
Atril gulped. “No, I’ll hold.”
She knelt at her Master’s side, placing one hand above Lomina’s knee and the other farther up her thigh. Between her hands was the deep bullet wound. The surrounding skin was sticky and warm with dark blood.
“Who in the civilized galaxy would prefer . . . this ammunition, over blasters?” Atril inquired, trying to distract herself from the sight before her. She was beginning to feel rather nauseous.
“They’re a bit behind the times, Padawan.”
Lomina held her breath, and without warning plunged her slender fingers into the wound.
“A bit? - Oh my!” Atril squeezed her blue eyes shut. She desperately tried to calm the war her stomach was waging on her esophagus with a hard swallow. Why must she be cursed with such rebellious innards? Wave after wave of dizziness rolled through her skull.
Grimacing with pain, Lomina grabbed hold of the bullet and gave a sharp tug. Finally, the alloyed metal lost the battle with the Master’s thigh and dislodged with a brief suctioning noise. Fresh blood gushed from the wound, but Lomina was thankful for the cleansing it would provide.
“Oh Force,” Atril whispered, her fair skin turning an even sicklier shade.
Lomina examined the bullet in her palm, then raised it to the flickering sunlight.
“This is a particularly nasty form of ammunition, isn’t it? Imagine how my leg would have faired if you hadn’t helped me, Padawan! I appreciate your help. You didn’t even vomit.”
The Jedi Master raised a blood-covered hand and moved to place it warmly on Atril’s shoulder, expecting her to still be sitting beside her.
“Atril?”
Her only answer came in the form of retching, a few trees down.
Lomina drew on the Force for strength and stood gently on her uninjured leg. Moving carefully toward the noise, she sighed.
My poor Atril still has a long journey to knighthood.

You've got some great OC's here. I love the banter.
“In times like these, you either laugh or cry. Personally, I find laughing to be much more enjoyable. Now, come and assist me!”
I totally agree!
Great vignette!

Haaaah! That was cute! With my mother in the medical field and my wife as a veterinarian, you can't help but get...er....interesting stories, especially around dinner time. If my stomach couldn't cope I'd be even skinnier. I LOVE the way you handled the story. Even though this was a short piece, the characters were well fleshed out (more haaaah!) and I identified with them immediately. Very well done!

I just finished reading all three stories in this series and loved them all. Each showed a different facet of the team's relationship and made me laugh. I look forward to the next in the series

She spoke to soon!
Haha, yes she did! Thanks for reading!
Jedi_Perigrine:
Though I'm not closely related to any doctors or veterinarians,
I'm
usually the one telling ah.. interesting stories that turn people's stomachs.
Chloris:
Aww, thank you very much! I'm happy that you're enjoying the series.

Oh dear. A padawan with a rebellious stomach.
I really enjoy your portrayal of these two and their relationship.
It's quite cute.
No, you were not meditating!
That made me laugh!
It was somthing that a Jedi Master would tell a padawan, somthing that I could see happening.
That was a very good fic and I hope you continue with Atril and Lomina..
The possibilities are endless with these two!
Nice job,
