CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Obi-Wan moved quickly,further distancing himself from his companions and the only reality he knew with each passing moment.Silently he cursed himself under his breath for being such a coward and running.Now he was alone,weaponless and had no idea where he was headed.He couldn't even depend on that magic power,Paraq had called the Force.
He could sense it hovering on the fringes,strong and enticing but just out of reach.Lifting his hand,he tugged at the thin gold collar in frustration.It was the blasted collar that was preventing him from tapping into that unknown source of power.
Pulling his thoughts back to the present,he quickly slipped through yet another dark and dirty alleyway.Instinct had warned him not to travel out in the open where anyone looking for a target would be able to clearly see his indecision and unfamiliarity with his surroundings.
He came to an abrupt stop when a sudden tingling sensation swept through his body,causing him to tense.His hand dropped down to the belt around his waist,only to clench when he realized he had no idea what he was searching for.
His eyes narrowed to mere slits as he slowly swept the dingy alleyway for some sign of whatever had alerted him to danger.Several shapes appeared to stir in the shadows around him,causing the hairs on the back of his neck to stand on end.
"Who's there?" he shouted.
The sound of his troubled voice echoed back to mock him.He took a defensive stance when the shadows suddenly took shape and he could see a line of burly individuals slowly advancing on him.Each carried some type of weapon,the lead one some type of electrojabber.
"What do you want?" he demanded.
Another figure suddenly broke through the line and he could feel cold eyes studying him piercingly.Obi-Wan felt the breath leave his lungs as recognition hit him.The Dark Lord!
A low sinister chuckle came from the dark clothed almost skeletal figure.
"Ah my little Jedi pet! How kind of you to make matters so much easier by coming to me!" the cold voice he heard in his dreams mocked him. "You've been a very naughty boy!"
Struggling for some visible measure of calm,Obi-Wan drew himself up to his full height,and stared at the menaching figure with false bravado.
"Leave me be!" he said quietly but firmly.
A sinister laugh drifted to him on the cold breeze,sending a shiver down his spine.
"Oh no little Jedi! You and I have some unfinished business to attend to.I can't allow you to escape from me unharmed,it looks bad!Once I've taken care of you,your band of helpers will be next.Get him!"
At the sudden snapped order,the line of men rushed him.
Obi-Wan knew that he had no chance of defeating them all,his only hope was to hold them off long enough to draw the attention of authorities.As the two on his left swept in,he quickly sprang away only to find the electrojabber awaiting him.Before he could sidestep it,one of his assailants pushed him from behind,sending him crashing into the weapon.
As a strong current swept through his body,he let out an involuntary cry of pain.Dropping to his hands and knees,he gasped for breath as currents continued to travel through his body.He was only vaguely aware of the dark figure that crouched down next to him.
A cold hand stroked the gold collar around his throat,as warm fetid breath wafted over his face,gagging him.
"Not so powerful with my little creation on,are you?" that cold voice inquired. "Let's see if we can make you a little more obedient."
"NO!" " Obi-Wan gasped as the collar began to hum and grow warm about his throat.
The last thing he heard was the hated chuckle of his captor before his mind once again withdrew into a catatonic state.He had no knowledge of the sudden appearance of his companions,or the vicious blaster fight that broke out.
All he knew was the safe and comforting black void that beckoned him closer,drawing him in.

Okay... so now we have wait and see if they can keep him! *makes puppy face at oe*
I wonder, will Qui-Gon (I spelled Qui's name wrong... *giggle* how awful!), etc. be drawn to this??

Oh no, not again. We need Qui-Gon to come barreling around the corner to cut down the hated Dark Lord with his lightsaber. Poor Obi-Wan, at least his friends have found him and there is hope that he will be saved.

Hey!
You might be my co-writer (and a lovely one at that) but that was NOT a nice place to leave things. I mean, how can you possibly have left it there? You're a mean, cruel woman!

CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Qui-Gon watched the bustling streets with tired and frustrated eyes.They had been here for an entire day and had yet to be approached by this mysterious person who had his padawan.He was bone weary of walking around and trying to maintain the calm veneer expected of him.
He wanted his Obi-Wan back safely in his care.
"Qui look!" Mace's voice broke into his troubled thoughts.
Glancing in the direction his friend was pointing,he saw a large crowd hovering around an alleyway.Without speaking,they moved closer to the mass of beings,bits of conversation drifting to them.
" Who? Dark Lord?"
" ..prison on Coruscant.."
" dead...all of them"
Exchanging excited glances,the two Jedi pushed through the crowd of onlookers.Reaching the front,they quickly took the situation in.
Half a dozen shrouded bodies lay in a line,the local authorities discussing something between themselves.Moving forward,Qui-Gon grabbed the arm of the ranking officer.
"What's going on here,Captain?" he inquired.
The youthful looking man turned to blast him for interfering,until he took a moment to study their attire and weapons.Respect quickly replaced the anger in his eyes as he bowed.
"I'm glad to see Jedi.This appears to be a case that will interest authorities on Coruscant," he confided.
"How so?" Mace asked.
The young man gestured toward a painfully thin Rodian who sat on a crate nearby,talking to another officer.
"Tib there stumbled onto a group of men who were working over a young man.He quickly reported it but by the time my men arrived,someone else had appeared on the scene and dealt with the assailants.Rather thoroughly as you can see," he explained.
"May we speak with him?" Qui-Gon asked.
"Be my guest."
Qui-Gon hastened to the aliens side.Squatting down,he smiled reassuringly at the visibly shaken figure.
"Tib,my name is Qui-Gon Jinn.This is my friend Mace Windu," he greeted the Rodian.
"Jehdi?" the Rodian asked in broken Basic.
"Yes we are.Could you tell us about the young man you saw being attacked?"Qui-Gon asked.
Tib studied them for a tense moment before nodding.
"Human,spiney hair..." he struggled to think of the proper word."Was...prethi?"
The two Jedi exchanged another speaking glance before Qui-Gon pulled a small holopicture out of his tunic and showed it to the Rodian.
"Is this the pretty young man you saw?" he asked anxiously.
The Rodian grew excited,pointing at the photo and nodding.
"Yes!Is him!" he exclaimed.
Qui-Gon's eyes closed and he appeared to sway slightly.Mace hurriedly placed a comforting hand on his shoulder before further questioning the alien.
"Do you know what happened to him?" he inquired gently.
"Took him.Wookiee...toss over shoulder," Tib told him.
"Do you have any idea where they may have taken him?" Qui-Gon asked urgently.
The Rodian's head fell forward.
"No,Tib no see," he admitted sorrowfully.
Biting back his frustration,Qui-Gon instead took several credit chips out of his belt and pressed them into the aliens webbed hand.
"You did well Tib.Thank you for your help," he said softly.
Standing,Qui-Gon turned to the Captain once again.
"Do you have positive id on the bodies?" he demanded.
"Not yet,but a local said he recognized one of them.Says he's the Dark Lord the authorities on Coruscant have been looking for,"the young officer told him.
"Which body?" Qui-Gon asked in an emotionless voice.
Leading the way over to one of the bodies,the Captain reached down and pulled the sheet back.The two Jedi stared down at the skeletal figure with obvious distaste.Even in death,the lingering traces of the Darkside were evident.
"Thank you for your help Captain," Qui-Gon said as he turned and hurried away.
Hurrying to catch up,Mace eyed his friend worriedly but refrained from speaking.
At least now they knew for sure that Obi-Wan was alive and somewhere in this city.And the Dark Lord was no longer a threat.
