CHAPTER EIGHTEEN
Mace took a sip of his drink as his gaze slowly moved around the packed noisey cantina.Next to him,Qui-Gon cupped his hot spiced tea between both hands,yet made no attempt to drink.Instead he merely sat with his eyes glued to the front entrance,praying their contact showed himself soon.
His attention captured by a fight that broke out nearby,Mace failed to see when his friends head snapped up.Qui-Gon's eyes narrowed to mere slits as he watched the figure who was slowly making his way toward their table.
A native Corellian,the man was at least as tall as either of them and heavily muscled.He had short brown hair,brown eyes and was dressed like a pilot.Black scuffed boots,black military style pants,a holster carrying an elaborate blaster,and a plain white shirt covered by a black vest.
He appeared to be somewhere in his thirties,and had the world weary look of someone who had seen and done it all.Stopping by the table,the cool brown eyes studied them before he nodded slightly.
"Name's Gregor," he said in greeting.
Holding his gaze,Qui-Gon returned the nod and gestured toward the empty chair across from him.Hesitating a second,the pilot finally took the offered seat and leaned back,his hands resting on his thighs,within reach of his blaster.
"I'm Qui-Gon Jinn and this is Mace Windu," Qui-Gon introduced themselves.
After studying Mace for a few seconds,the pilot once again turned his attention to Qui-Gon.
"The boy belongs to you,I understand," he said.
"Obi-Wan is my padawan learner,my student.More importantly, he's like my son and I want nothing more then to get him back home," Qui-Gon told him.
He held the pilots gaze,allowing him to see the well of emotion in his eyes.Apparently satisfied,Gregor relaxed slightly.
"He was brutally tortured while in the prison," he explained."He withdrew into himself,didn't eat or speak."
Qui-Gon's eyes closed at his words,but Gregor continued his tale.
"A lady friend of mine is Force sensitive and managed to pull him out of his trance.Only problem was,he didn't remember anything about his life before the prison."
Gregor hesitated a moment when he saw the anguish that flooded the Jedi's regal face.
"Unfortunately by the time we arrived yesterday,that bas....the Dark Lord had somehow sent him back into his trancelike state," he finished.
While Qui-Gon struggled to accept all he had heard,Mace eyed the pilot suspiciously.
"Why was he out in an unfamiliar city,alone?" he asked.
Qui-Gon watched with interest as the Corellian flushed slightly.
"He overheard a conversation that upset him.When I told him I meant to contact you,he fled," he admitted.
Gregor sat back and watched as the two Jedi seemed to fall into deep thought.Eventually Qui-Gon's gaze lifted and he studied the pilot with an unreadable expression.
"You befriended him in the prison?" he asked.
Gregor shrugged and nodded.
"No great sacrifice on my part as I'm sure you know.The kid is....special," he told him.
"And you were with him after he was tortured?" Jinn inquired with a slight catch in his voice.
"All I could do was talk to him,try to take his mind off of it," Gregor explained.
"It was you who broke him out?" Qui-Gon continued quietly.
"I had help.A Wookiee prison guard didn't like seeing him tortured anymore then me," the pilot shared.
The Jedi's gaze took on an almost desperate edge.
"You have my thanks Gregor.Now will you please take me to my Obi-Wan?" Qui-Gon pleaded.

I loved the way you handled the meeting between the Jedi and Gregor oe, very touching. Poor Qui-Gon, to have to listen to all the horror that Obi-Wan endured. At least he knows that Obi-Wan wasn't alone and that he had friends that tried to care for him.

I apologize for my lack of response yesterday! Darth evil life made me read some odd number of pages for school that kept me rather busy.

But... with Obi-Wan intrance-like state I guess it won't be too happy. And if they pull him out of it and he doesn't remember the Jedi still?

CHAPTER NINETEEN
Gregor entered the home with obvious reluctance,the Jedi close on his heels.Standing to the side,he allowed them to move into the room first.A sudden startled gasp echoed in the silence.
Curious,Gregor peered around the two Jedi,to find Paraq sitting in a chair,staring up at them with wide disbelieving eyes.Windu was responding with much the same unsettled reaction.
"Paraq?" he breathed softly.
Qui-Gon glanced between them with obvious confusion.
"Mace,you two know one another?" he asked.
Nodding,the Jedi Master quickly moved forward and crouched down in front of Paraq's chair.He lifted his hands out to her,and almost reluctantly,she placed hers on top of them.
"Paraq was raised in the Temple," Mace explained.
Gregor stared at her in shock,while Qui-Gon studied her,trying to place her.Her golden eyes slowly met both of the Jedi's.
"I lived there until I was thirteen," she said cooly."When no master picked me as their apprentice,I was cast out to the middle of nowhere and had to fend for myself."
"Agri-corps," Mace said.
She gave a bark of disbelieving laughter and jerked her hands away,curling them into fists.
"Call it what you like Master Windu.I called it prison!" she snapped.
Qui-Gon frowned at her.
"I don't understand.Agri-corps is an honorable living for those not chosen to be trained," he replied.
Paraq's golden eyes slammed into his angrily.
"Honorable living,Master Jinn? We were nothing more then Jedi slave labor! Surely you aren't going to stand there and pretend you don't know what goes on in Agri-corps?" she demanded.
Her expression filled with amazement at the looks on their faces.
"The Council truly has no idea,do they?" she asked.
Shaking his head,Mace faced her.
"No,but thanks to you we can now investigate and make things right," he said softly.
Laying his hands over hers,his eyes pleaded with her.
"Come back to the Temple with us little one.I remember that you enjoyed working with the healers.Let us take care of you," he coaxed her.
Blinking back tears,she slowly nodded.As Mace hugged her,Qui-Gon turned to Gregor.
"Captain,I'd like to see my apprentice now," he said firmly.
Pulling his still stunned gaze away from Paraq,Gregor quickly moved to the door and opening it,led the way inside.Moving to stand on the far side of the bed,he watched as the Jedi Master slowly approached the still figure on the bed.
Qui-Gon drew in a harsh breath at the sight before him.Obi-Wan sat with his back propped up by several pillows,his hands lying limply by his sides.His face was gaunter then it had been,and his skin paler then usual.
The normally luminous blue-grey eyes,were flat and lifeless,staring fixedly ahead. Long russet lashes only blinked occasionaly,more out of reflex he suspected.Noticing the thin gold collar around his padawans neck,Qui-Gon glanced curiously at Gregor.
"What is he wearing around his neck?" he asked.
"Paraq called it a Force suppressor," he said,hurrying to explain when the Jedi swore softly."We've tried everything to get it off."
A large trembling hand reached out and gently stroked the spiky hair.
"Oh padawan mine,what did that monster do to you?" Qui-Gon whispered brokenly.
Gregor watched in fascination,as Jinn clasped the young man's head in both of his hands and shut his eyes.Several minutes later,his large body shuddered and his eyes snapped open,tears clearly visible in their depths.
"I can't even reach him through our bond!" he said in disbelief.
"But you can help him right? Once you get that damn collar off and get him home?" Gregor asked worriedly.
The Jedi's eyes gleamed with uncertainty.
"Let us hope so Captain," Qui-Gon said.
Bending down,he slid his arms under Obi-Wan's body,lifting him with little effort.Gregor swallowed tightly as Qui-Gon pressed his forehead against Obi-Wan's cheek for a brief instant as he cradled him.
"Thank you Gregor,for saving him.For saving me," Qui-Gon said softly before turning with his precious bundle and leaving the room.
Shaking himself,Gregor grabbed the brown blanket from the foot of the bed,and ran after the Jedi.
"Jinn!Wait!" he cried.
Stopping by the door,Qui-Gon turned back and eyed the pilot curiously.Reaching him,Gregor gently lay the blanket over Obi-Wan and pulled it up to his chest.
"The blanket seems to keep him warm and bring him some comfort," he explained.
Hesitantly,he ran a hand down a smooth cheek and smiled sadly as the young man's fingers slowly began to clench the edge of the blanket.He and Qui-Gon shared a brief speaking glance before ,with a brief nod he moved away.
Mace slapped him on the back.
"Paraq assures me that you can pilot her to Coruscant and escort her to the Temple," he said as he handed the pilot a datachip."Ask for Master Dallia and give her this.She can put you and the Wookiee to work."
Bowing,the two Jedi left leaving a silent room behind them.As they eyed one another,they all secretly felt that even if Obi-Wan one day regained his normalacy,they would be long forgotten.

love that mace is rescuing paraq also.

Somehow I don't think Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon will ever forget them and their kindness.
A little shocking tidbit there with Paraq and her version of the dreaded AgriCorps. That would explain why she was adamant about not returning Obi-Wan to the Jedi.
Great post oe. I love where you decided to take this new version of your story.
