“Obi-Wan.” A gentle shake followed the voice. “Wake up, it’s seventh hour, you have class in twenty minutes.” Qui-Gon said and smirked at the groan that answered him. Obi-Wan was not a happy camper in the morning.
Usually it took him twenty minutes to even get a groan. But today the master was going to try something new. The idea was to try to wake his padawan up only once, and then let him sleep in, making him late for class. The boy had to learn to take responsibility for getting up on time,just in case the master wasn’t there to wake him up.
Obi-Wan curled further under the blankets, telling himself only five more minutes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 25 Minutes Later ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obi-Wan rolled over and pried open his eyes to look at the chrono, squinting to read the numbers, 7:25. He put his head back down and closed his eyes again.
“7:25! SITH!” He threw the covers back and ran to the fresher.
Qui-Gon smiled when he heard the fresher door slam shut. His padawan was late, and hopefully he would understand his master’s reasons for his actions. His smile grew wider as the muttering and thumps floated through the door.
Obi-Wan burst out of the fresher and stopped in mid-flight as he saw his master. Qui-Gon was sitting in his favorite, overstuffed chair, reading a holo-novel. Obi-Wan felt his annoyance double at the sight of his relaxed master.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” he asked.
“I did, but you wouldn’t get up, and I got tired of trying.” Qui-Gon said as he shrugged his shoulders at his apprentice.
Obi-Wan gaped at his master. “But you only tried once! Seriously Master, you didn’t even try!” His master just shrugged his shoulders again. Obi-Wan growled in frustration and stomped into his room.
“This is just great, my first day back, and I’m already late. All because my master was too lazy to wake me up!” Obi-Wan said this to himself as he flung clothes to the floor while looking for a clean tunic. Glancing at the time, he threw on his tunic and ran into the main room of the apartment.
Qui-Gon watched silently as his student flew out the door.
“Have a good day Padawan.” he called after the retreating figure. He sighed as he walked back to his chair. The boy had to learn some responsibilities, even if it was the hard way.
Obi-Wan ran down the hallway, the empty hallway. Usually the hallway was teeming with other students on their way to class. Obi-Wan groaned and quickened his pace, as his tired mind finally figured out why the hall was empty. He was really late. He glanced at his wrist, 7:32. He still had two minutes till the late chime. If he didn’t make it to Master Obergafell’s room before then, he would have kitchen duty. Again.
He was so worried about the time he didn’t notice the presence coming around the corner until it was too late. He ran into the person and fell to the floor. He let out a grunt as his backside made hard contact with the floor. He stood quickly to apologize. He bowed to the older man and said a quick apology. The man smiled, making him look younger.
“Obi-Wan Kenobi?” he asked.
“Yes sir.” Obi-Wan studied the man, determining him to be a knight, he was much too young to be a master. In fact he hardly looked older then 25. Probably making him one of the youngest knights in the temple. His dark hair was longer and gelled into spikes in the front and his blue eyes sparkled as he helped Obi-Wan to his feet. Obi-Wan felt short while standing next to him, even though the man was an inch or two shorter than his own master. He waited as he saw the man open his mouth to speak.
“You don’t have to go to class today, the council has called you and your master to a meeting.” The man had a pleasant voice, one that promised a rich singing voice. Obi-Wan fell into step next to the knight and inquired if he knew anything about the meeting.
“Do you know if it’s a mission.” he asked. Obi-Wan realized who he was questioning too late, and opened his mouth to apologize, again. “I’m sorry, I forgot who I was talking to,” he said. He blushed when he saw the other smile.
“Don’t worry about it. I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced. I’ll admit I’ve seen you once or twice, but I’ve never had the pleasure to meet you in person.” The knight held out his hand. “My name’s Terry Krenwar.”
Obi-Wan took the hand, noticing the strong grip of a fellow swordsman. “You already know my name, but I’m Obi-Wan.” Terry let go of his hand as they reached the Council chambers. The girl sitting at the desk told them it would be a few moments before the council was ready for them.
"So how come we've never met before? Do you know my master?" Obi-Wan asked. The knight turned to face the windows and said,
"Yes, your master and I are good friends, even thought we don't talk as often as I'd like." Terry brushed his fingers along his light saber hanging on his belt. And Obi-Wan took the opportunity to ask him if he was any good.
"Do you like to fight?"
"Fight, no. I like to spar. I dislike the act of fighting another who is angered. I hear you're pretty good, the top of your training class, in fact."
Obi-Wan blushed at the praise. "Yes I guess you could say that. Would you consider yourself better then Master Jinn?" The knight grinned at the question and stood up.
"No, not quite, but almost. I almost beat him once, but he cheated." This last reply was said with a wink. Obi-Wan had no time to ask how his master had cheated because the council doors had begun to open.
“Your master is already inside, they sent me to get you.” Terry bowed to the young girl who had opened the doors for them. Obi-Wan followed suit and then stepped into the room.
The Council sat in their chairs, looking as somber as usual. Obi-Wan glanced around the circle and his gaze came to rest on his master, standing in the center.
“Welcome Knight Krenwar, Padawan Kenobi. Now that your here, we can begin the briefing.” Mace Windu gestured for the pair to join Qui-Gon in the center. Obi-Wan closed the distance between his master and him, and settled in for a lengthy discussion. Master Windu folded his hands into his lap and looked each of them in the eye before continuing.
“The Leviblian government has asked for Jedi intervention on their home world. They believe that a spice ring has taken up residence in the planet’s underground tunnel system.
We've come to an agreement with the Levibian government that is as follows. We agreed to send in a trio of Jedi to look into the matter. You are not to interfere in any way. You are being sent to observe, and to see if the spice ring is causing a sufficient disturbance." Master Windu seemed to look down his nose at Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, silently telling them not to get into trouble.
“Masters, I accept the mission, and look forward to working with both Master Jinn and Padawan Kenobi.” Knight Krenwar stepped back after accepting, and Qui-Gon stepped forward.
“I will do as the council wishes.” Qui-Gon stepped back. Yoda spoke up for the first time, and everyone looked over.
“Your transport, ready it will be, tonight after the eighth hour. Go pack you must. Be careful on this trip, you will be. A test it is, to see if you can come back unscathed.” Yoda said this to Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan.
'Geez, is this beat up on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan day or what?' Obi-Wan said to himself.
Yoda got up from his chair slowly, limping over to the trio in the center of the room. "Easy mission this is. Expect a good report from the Leviblian leaders, I do."
Yoda hobbled back to his chair, waving a gnarled hand. “May the Force be with you.”
What do ya think?
RE: Mist of Dawn: The Stone of Faith (Obi/Qui) Post 2 ~*Transfer from old boards*~
“Padawan, pack an extra set of clothes. We don't know how long we’ll be off planet.” Qui-Gon said as he stuck his head in Obi-Wan’s room, watching him pack.
“Okay master.” Obi-Wan shoved a spare tunic into his pack. “Do you think I should take my data pad?” The thought of having homework while on this mission made him shudder. Qui-Gon appeared to ponder the idea, making it seem like a tough decision, when they both knew he wouldn’t put his student through that kind of torture.
“I don’t know Padawan, don’t you want to get a head start on your oral presentation in Master Obergafell’s class?” He couldn’t hide his grin at Obi-Wan’s grimace. “No Padawan, you don’t have to bring your pad, but I expect you to jump back into the swing of things when we return to the temple.”
“Yes Master.” Obi-Wan said, smiling at him in thanks. He turned back around, glancing around his room to check for forgotten items, when the door chime sounded.
“Obi-Wan, would you get that?” Obi-Wan hit the door panel and stepped back slightly as it slid open, revealing Knight Krenwar.
“Good evening Obi-Wan.” a smile lit up the man’s face, again making him seem younger.
‘He must be at least 35 years old,’ Obi-Wan thought to himself. He stepped aside and gestured for the knight to enter the apartment. “Knight Krenwarl...” he was cut off by a wave of a hand.
Please call me Terry. How old are you Obi-Wan?”
“I’ll be 18 this fall. May I ask why sir?” Obi-Wan tilted his head while asking his question.
“Terry, please. Obi-Wan, I’m insulted by your thoughts. Do you always broadcast so loud? 35 years old, do I look that old? Obi-Wan blushed as Terry said this. Terry smiled as he continued, “I’m only 23 years old.”
”
“You’re only 23?” Obi-Wan asked in astonishment.
“Close you mouth before a fly lands in it. And yes I’m only 23, I was knighted fairly young, at the request of my late master.” Terry turned in greeting when Qui-Gon entered the room.
“Ah, Terry, It’s good to see you again. It’s been too long.”
“Yes Qui-Gon, it has. How are you?’
“I’m doing good.” Qui-Gon’s hand rested on his apprentice’s shoulder, showing Terry that the older man was indeed fine. The knight turned back to Obi-Wan.
“I hope we can get to know each other during this mission, become brothers of a sort. But that can wait until we board our transport.,” said Terry as he gatjhered his gear and walked out the door, with Qui-Gon right on his heels.
“I’ll be right there Master, I forgot something.” Obi-Wan ran back into his room and grabbed his river stone off his dresser. “Okay, I’m ready now.” The door shut behind the trio as they headed towards the hangar.
Terry sat in the main cabin of the ship, trying to push away the memories that Qui-Gon’s presense brought back. But they were too strong, and he was lost in the memory of the day he noticed his best friend changing.
“Terry, you wanna spar with me today after lunch?” Xantos asked as he set his tray down beside his friend. Terry turned his head and smiled at his friend.
“Sure I’d love to. My master’s going to want to observe.” Terry shoveled his last bite of Yungi bird in his mouth, chewing loudly. “What time exactly are we looking at?”
“Um, let’s meet in 15 minutes outside of gym one. And do you really have to bring your master? He’ll make us fight properly. We won’t be able to have any fun.” Xantos said as he dug into his dessert. “Maybe I could convince my master to have tea with yours.”
He titled his head to follow Terry as he stood.
Terry shook his head at Xantos. “You never want your master, or anyone’s master watching you fight anymore. Why is that.” Terry watched his friend’s eyes carefully, waiting for an answer. It was slow in coming and he was about to turn away when Xantos stood up.
“I just don’t want them finding out how good I am.” Xantos said, grinning as Terry leaned back away from him. “I’ll meet you at gym one in 15 minutes. Don’t be late!” Terry stood in the same spot, pondering the emotions he had felt coming from Xantos. All was not right with him, he was acting strange lately. Maybe it was time to talk to Master Jinn about his friend.
“Terry!” Terry jumped at his name being called loudly in his ear. He looked up from his kneeling position to find Obi-Wan standing near him, with a smile lighting his face. ‘He always looks so rigid. Smiling seems to fit him better’ Terry said to himself as he stood up.
“Padawan, was it necessary to yell in his ear?” Qui-Gon asked his apprentice.
Obi-Wan glanced to the ground, finding the carpet suddenly interesting.
“It’s okay Qui-Gon, I was daydreaming.” Terry lifted his arms above his head and sighed. “I have to go review the mission plan. I will see you two at dinner?”
Obi-Wan’s eyes flew back to Terry face at the mention of food. Qui-Gon noticed his Padawan’s keen intrest in food, and chuckled. He then replied to Terry, “Oh don’t worry, we wouldn’t miss it for the world. Padawan, Knight Krenwar has a good idea. Why don’t you go read the information on the mission, and when your finished, meditate until I call you for dinner?” Qui-Gon said as he patted him on the back to get him going.
“Yes Master.” Obi-Wan slipped out of the room quietly as Qui-Gon turned to Terry.
“Can we talk a little bit before you go? It’s been too long since we last talked and since we’re not going to get to Leviblia for another six hours, I had hoped we could take up a little time getting to know one another again.” Terry nodded his head and sat on the couch facing Qui-Gon.
“Where to start. Hmmm, how about right after,” Terry paused taking a deep breath, “how bout right after my master died.” Qui-Gon sensing that is was still a sore memory, waited until the knight was ready to continue. “I was sent on my first official mission to Glycol three weeks after my masters funeral. I was to take part in the yearly crop negotiations. Obviously the council still thought I was emotionally unstable, and although I was a little, I was not nearly enough to endanger any of my actions.”
“The mission went smoothly. And I came back to the temple, ad received another mission. This one to Chamomile. And so it went. Mission to a brief temple stay, and then another mission. It was during my visit to Gladerma that I received a transmission from the council asking me to return to the temple. I didn’t know the reason then, but upon arriving they told me you had attempted to end your life.” Terry glanced over at the older man as he said this, waiting for a reaction. When none came, he continued his story.
“I was nervous to visit because I thought my presence would bring more painful memories to the surface, adding to those you carried around on your own. Yoda finally convinced me to visit you in the healers, and I specifically remember you telling me to ‘go away’ and to ‘just let you die.’ Master Yoda had observed this and finally announced that your thick head wouldn’t allow anyone to help you out of your depression.”
Qui-Gon smiled slightly at the image of Yoda hobbling around, yelling at him to get on with his life.
“So I left the temple yet again and have been away since. I only returned three days ago and I wasn’t surprised to be called to another meeting. But I was surprised to know I’d been teamed up with you and Obi-Wan.”
Qui-Gon, having been silent this whole time, absorbing his friend’s story, finally opened his mouth. “I’m sorry about the way I treated you that day. I was still so lost inside the darkness Xantos left behind in my heart, that I was blinded to the truth and light. When I finally realized the way I was living wasn’t helping, I took a turn for the best. I began going outside my rooms again, I started teaching some classes also.
“Yoda kept trying to push me into accepting a padawan learner. And the first month, I didn’t feel ready. But after the first, I knew I should move on, but I wanted to stay true to the memory I had of Xantos. Yoda got me to attend a light saber tournament one day. And that’s the first time I saw Obi-Wan. He was, about 12 years old, and was a spectacular fighter. He beat all his opponents fairly. But I was looking for his faults, not his talents. So afterword, I approached him and told him he fought with too much anger.” Qui-Gon stretched his legs out and turned more towards Terry.
While Qui-Gon took a break in his story, he got up and filled two glasses with tea.
“So did you ask him to be your padawan after that?” Terry could picture Obi-Wan jumping for joy when he was asked.
“No, sadly I didn’t.” Qui-Gon frowned as he remembered the scene.
Obi-Wan had been towel drying his hair when he heard footsteps approaching. He straightened as Master Qui-Gon Jinn came around the corner. Remembering his training, Obi-Wan bowed, bending at the waist and waited in silence till the master spoke.
“You fought too aggressively today. You style has too much anger fueling it. You must learn to control this, or you will never become a Jedi. Congratulations on your win, but think about what I have told you.”
Obi-Wan seemed not to hear what he had said, and Qui-Gon watched a delayed reaction take over the boy. His shoulders had slumped forward as he had bowed again to the master.
“Thank you for your wisdom Master, I will meditate on my fight today and analyze where I went wrong.” With that Qui-Gon turned on his heel and marched quickly out of he room. But not quickly enough, for the young boys sobbing reached his ears and he opened the door to the locker room. He stiffened his spine. He would not let another boy into his heart, only to have it broken again.
Qui-Gon sighed as he came out of his thoughts, trying to find the best way to tell the knight of his mistake. “I didn’t ask Obi-Wan to be my padawan that day because I hadn’t yet realized that I was comparing Obi-Wan to Xantos. The two are completely opposite, I don’t know how I could think them the same.
Terry listened in a sort of disappointment, and silently urged Qui-Gon to start up again.
“It seems that I was Obi-Wan’s last chance to be a Jedi. His 13 birthday was three days away, and he was sent to the Agricorps. For some odd reason, we both ended up on the same transport, headed to the same place. I later found out that Yoda, that meddling troll, had set me up. It so happened that Obi-Wan helped me out while I was on my mission, and I saw the light he really was. I asked him to be my padawan, and we’ve been together ever since.” Qui-Gon stood as he drew his own story to a close.
“We’ve been through thick and thin together. There’s been so many missions where I thought I had lost him, and I think I just recently realized that he’s the light in my life. He keeps me going day by day. And he’s helped me get over Xantos, yes there’s still a pang when I think about him, but Obi-Wan fills the void with his inner strength and light. I don’t even want to think what I would do if anything happened to him. But that's enough for now.”
Qui-Gon said as he looked at his wrist. An hour and twenty minutes had passed as the two sat reminiscing.
“Obi-Wan’s knees are probably falling off by now, let me go get him and then we can eat dinner.” He started towards the door, only to be stopped by Terry’s arms encircling him in a hug.
“I’ve missed you Qui-Gon. You were the closest thing I had to a father after my master died.” He let the older man go and stepped back, putting on an overdone tough guy act. Qui-Gon just grinned at the attempt.
“I’ve missed you too. Now that we’re back on speaking terms, you’re going to have to check in with me just like Obi-Wan does. Qui-Gon stepped into the hallway, laughing at the groan that floated out the door after him.
RE: Mist of Dawn: The Stone of Faith (Obi/Qui) Post 3 ~*Transfer from old boards*~
It was later on after dinner that Obi-Wan finally got a chance to speak with his master alone. The pair was headed towards the cargo hold for saber practice, and Obi-Wan decided to voice his questions on the mission. “Master, the mission specs say that we are to be looking for Gorlc Ressi. I thought he died about seven months ago. Wasn’t he killed in a spice raid on Alderaan?” Obi-Wan said as he reached the cargo door first, and opened it for his master.
Qui-Gon nodded in thanks to Obi-Wan and began to take off his outer tunics. “Yes, Gorlc was declared dead on the news. But the council has had many Jedi report seeing him. It was a coincidence that he might be involved in this ring, and the council is killing two birds with one stone. I believe that is why Knight Krenwar was assigned to go with us on this mission.” Qui-Gon said as he began stretching his long arms over his head.
“So we are to be undercover as men looking for work in the ring. Won’t it look suspicious if the three of us walk in asking for a job? I think they’ll be smarter than that.” Obi-Wan sat down to stretch his legs, wincing at the stiffness that was left over from his earlier meditation. Rubbing his sore knee caps, he remembered a question he wanted to ask Qui-Gon. “How do you know Knight Krenwar so well Master?”
Qui-Gon had expected this line of questioning, and was prepared with an answer. He looked straight into his apprentice’s eyes as he replied. “He was best friends with Xanatos when Xanatos was my Padawan.” Even though Qui-Gon felt a twinge in his heart when mentioning his former student, it faded away quickly when he caught the look of love in Obi-Wan’s eyes. The boy respected him, and loved him like a father, and Qui-Gon couldn’t help loving the boy right back.
“Master, is that why Terry was knighted so young? Did Xanatos do something to him?” Obi-Wan’s question was so close to the truth, and no matter how much love Obi-Wan showed Qui-Gon, he still wasn’t ready for the guilt he felt. Terry’s life had also been altered when Xanatos turned to the dark side, and he had yet to ask the knight if he was okay.
Qui-Gon took a deep breath and began his tale, starting right after Xanatos had asked Terry to spar that fateful day.
“Master, would you mind if Terry and I sparred?” Xanatos asked his master as he sat next to him at the table. Xanatos lifted a pen and started spinning it in the air with the Force.
“Xani, don’t do that. You know the council frowns upon the use of the Force in that way.” Qui-Gon frowned at his apprentice and glanced back down at his papers. “I have some papers to finish looking over, but after that I’ll come down to watch you two.”
Xanatos sprang up from his chair, “No Master that won’t be necessary, Terry and I are just going to play around with a few new moves, maybe you could go keep Master Tehanu company. I hear he likes the same as you.” Xanatos smiled at his master and turned towards the door. “Thanks Master, I’ll come back when we’re finished.” And with that the door slid shut after him. ‘Everything’s going perfect,’ he said to himself as he headed towards the training rooms.
About five minutes after Xanatos left, the door chime rang. Thinking that Xanatos had already invited Terry’s master over, he opened the door. Surprised to see Terry’s face instead if his master’s he stepped back and invited him inside. “Is there something I can do for you Padawan Krenwar?”
“Yes Master. It’s about Xanatos, has he been acting different?” Terry said this while starring at the ground. “Because, I’ve noticed a change in him. He always seems easily agitated by the littlest things. And he never wants anyone to watch us spar anymore. He’s afraid someone will learn his “secret moves.” Terry fidgeted, moving his weight from foot to foot.
“Padawan Krenwar, when did you start to notice these changes?” Qui-Gon already knew what he’d say. His padawan had been acting strangely these past few months. He hadn’t taken the time to think about it, attributing the strange behavior to stress and school work.
“It started about sixth months ago, when you two returned from you mission. In fact I think it was right after the exams.”
“Padawan Krenwar, I think we can talk about this later. I’m sure his behavior is the result of a lot of homework and too little time. Right now, I’m on my way to have tea with your master.” Qui-Gon watched Terry walk to the door, and was about to sit back down when the man turned.
“Master, are you sure we should wait? I think we ought to talk about this now, earlier during lunch I sensed anger in him. I’m afraid of what could happen if we put this off to long.”
Terry said. He watched as the master’s back straightened and he seemed to grow upset.
“Are you suggesting that my apprentice, your best friend, is dabbling in the dark side? No Padawan of mine would dare, Xanatos is not full of dark feelings, especially anger!” Qui-Gon’s voice grew strained as he tried to hold back the angry words that were forming in his head. “I think that you’re jealous of Xanatos, because he is the more skilled fighter. Are you jealous Padawan Krenwar, are you trying to get your friend into trouble?”
Qui-Gon stared at the younger man, trying to sense any emotions the man was feeling.
Terry seemed to shrink into himself as he absorbed the harsh words. “No Master Jinn, I’m just trying to help Xanatos, I would never want him to get into trouble.” Terry inched towards the door as Qui-Gon walked towards him.
“i suggest you go to the training rooms now, you’re going to be late meeting Xanatos. And don’t think that this conversation will go unnoted. I’m going to talk with your master right now.” Qui-Gon punched the door button, silently telling Terry to go away. Qui-Gon tried to dismiss his anger, tried to let it flow into the force as he watched the younger man walk away.
The boy had some nerve, coming into his house and telling him his Padawan was in the wrong. He pushed the feelings of doubt to the back of his mind as he walked towards Master Tehanu’s quarters.
Terry walked quickly down the hall, still hurt about the words Master Jinn had thrown at him. He knew something was wrong with his best friend, and he knew Qui-Gon sensed it as well. He would have to approach Master Jinn again when the master had cooled down a little. Terry took a deep breath as he entered the training room hallway. Xanatos stood at the far room, and motioned him to him. Terry jogged over to his friend and asked which room they were going to use.
“I figured we could use the old rooms downstairs, that way no one would see us, or our new moves.” Xanatos laid a hand on Terry’s back, leading him down the little used stairway. Terry wondered at what had made Xanatos pick a downstairs room. He had never before cared where they practiced.
The two men began to warm up in silence, stretching until they were comfortable. Ten minutes passed before either of them picked up his light saber. Xanatos activated his and the room was filled with the buzzing of it. Terry followed suit and settled into the starting stance. His gaze traveled to Xanatos' face, where his eyes where held by those of his friend’s. Terry was startled to find the normal warm gray were now as hard as steel. He wasn’t prepared for Xanatos to make the first move so soon, and was slow to block the upper stroke Xanatos dealt him. Xanatos face was devoid of emotion as he swung again, only this time it was aimed for Terry’s head. Terry still had recovered his balance and therefore was again unprepared for the attack. A burning sensation flew down his arm as the saber made contact with his shoulder.
Terry held in a gasp when it hit. Xanatos’ saber wasn’t on the training level, it was set on the highest mode! He jumped back from another swing and lashed out at his friend for the first time. The two sabers met in a clash, Terry disengaged and took aim for Xanatos’ chest. Xanatos dropped into a roll and hit Terry on the back when he came up. Terry held back tears as the saber swept across his back, leaving a trail of fire. Terry fell forward as Xanatos kicked his knees, causing him to fall onto his chest, against the mat.
:Master!: Terry sent a silent plea to his master when he realized Xanatos wasn’t going to stop. :Help!:
:Master! Help!: Master Tehanu jumped up from his couch, startling his visitor Qui-Gon Jinn. “I’m sorry Qui-Gon, but something’s wrong with Terry, I must go to him.” The aging master quickly walked to the door, and opened it, with Qui-Gon following closely behind.
“Xanatos told me they’d be practicing saber techniques in the gym.” Qui-Gon tried to help ease the worry that seemed to hover around Master Tehanu. Qui-Gon hoped that whatever was wrong with Terry, wasn’t affecting Xantos also. The boy was stresses enough as it was.
“Terry is in pain. He is also fearful, something’s frightened him enough for me to sense it. We must hurry.” Tehanu’s pace quickened until they were almost jogging down the halls.
“Xanatos, what are you doing?” Terry cried out, attempting to gain his feet. Xanatos came in for another strike towards his neck. Terry rolled to his feet in time to avoid the killing blow, and instead received a burn to his wrist. Terry’s own anger began to rise, and he attacked Xanatos, forcing him back a few steps. “Why are you doing this? What have I done to you?”
Xanatos smiled and spoke for the first time since since he had attacked Terry. “You are pathetic you know that? You go to my master, trying to turn him from me, trying to make him think I’m of the dark side. And then you come here and act like my friend. Did you think I wouldn’t find out?” Xanatos kicked out towards Terry’s chin and succeeded in sending the other man to the mats on his back. “I honestly was going to ask you to go with me, but after this stunt, I know you aren’t trustworthy.”
“Ask me to go where?” Terry was now confused, not to mention a little uncomfortable. Xanatos’ light saber was less then 2 inches away from his neck, making him sweat. “What are you talking about?”
“I was going to take you to meet my master. But that was when I thought you were my friend, I know better now.” Xanatos brought his arm back, intending to end the duel, when the doors to the room flew open.
“Terry!” Master Tehanu’s voice sounded like heaven to Terry. He turned his head to look at his master as Xanatos’ head raised at the next voice.
“Xanatos, what is this?” Qui-Gon was shocked to see his apprentice holding his light saber to the throat of his best friend. “Let him up right now.” Qui-Gon started walking towards the pair, intending on helping the fallen student up.
“I don’t think so Qui-Gon.” Xanatos sneered at him. “You’re not my master any longer. You weren’t getting the job done. So I took matters into my own hands.” Xanatos swung his blade around and faced Qui-Gon head on.
Qui-Gon Jinn, frozen in place by the sudden rift between his apprentice and himself, automatically brought his light saber up, igniting it in one smooth motion to block Xanatos' sudden attack on his master.
Meanwhile, Master Tehanu had helped his apprentice up, and was walking slowly towards the door with Terry leaning on him as a crutch. Xanatos struck once at Qui-Gon and sprinted past him towards the door where Terry and his master had just stopped for a brief break. Terry tried to push his master behind him in attempt to protect him from Xantos’ blade, but he was tired and weak from the earlier fight. Master Tehanu stepped in front of his padawan and took the blow instead. Terry watched in silence as his master fell to the ground. It seemed to happen in slow motion with Xanatos’ cold eyes staring into his and then running out the door and with Qui-Gon’s scream of ‘No!’ ringing in his ears.
Tears ran unchecked down Terry’s face as he hugged his master’s body against his chest. Qui-Gon had left him alone in the silent room, running after Xanatos. Terry didn’t care anymore, nothing seemed real. He barely felt the gentle hands that tried to take his master’s body from him. He growled low in his throat and tightened his arms around the cooling body.
Voices floated around him, discussing the best way to take care of the situation. That’s all his master’s death was to them, a mess to clean up. He had stopped crying a few minutes ago, and had started rocking back and forth. Healers came towards him, one was holding a hydrospray full of a clear liquid.
“Terry, we’re just going to take your master’s body to the healers station.” The healers kind voice said. “We need you to let go, or we are going to have to sedate you.”
Terry refused to let go of the body that used to be his master and friend.
A shark prick at the base of his neck told him that the healers had indeed did as they had said they would. His eyes were slowly closing on their own accord, and Terry hurriedly glanced around for one last look at his master. Master Tehanu’s face had lost it’s color, and had faded to ghastly white, but it quickly turned black as he slipped into unconsciousness
Qui-Gon had watched the scene unfold after he had returned to the gym. Chasing Xanatos had proved unfruitful. Xanatos had disappeared after running out of the gym, and
Qui-Gon hadn’t been able to follow him.
He felt sorry for the young man who was being loaded onto a hover bed. He should have listened to Terry when the boy had told him something was wrong. Master Tehanu would still be alive, and Xanatos could have been saved.
Qui-Gon turned away and walked back out the door. He would stay out of Terry’s life from now on. Not only for the sake of the younger man, but for the sake of him. The guilt he felt now would never go away, he was sure of it.
Qui-Gon quietly entered his empty rooms, and sat on the couch in the dark, his sobs filling the quiet air.
Qui-Gon finished his story and sat in silence, watching Obi-Wan’s face as the boy absorbed it all. Obi-Wan looked up and focused oh his master.
He sent comforting waves through the force to his master after sensing the distress in his side of the link. The tale had been long, and Obi-Wan stood up from, stretching his legs in an attempt to restore the feeling back in them. “Master, you shouldn't feel guilty any more. The past is past, and there’s nothing you can do to change that. Terry seems to have accepted what happened, and he’s moved on. You should too.” Obi-Wan extended his hand to help his master up.
Qui-Gon looked down at his apprentice and smiled. “When did you get so smart?” Obi-Wan blushed at the sudden praise.
“I had a good teacher and role model.” Qui-Gon opened his arms to Obi-Wan, and his student stepped into the hug, giving as much as he was receiving. “Master, I believe you challenged me to a duel. Are you trying to stall?” Obi-Wan danced away when Qui-Gon tried to tug on his braid.
“You’d better watch out my young apprentice. It’s you who’s going to be asking to stop.” Qui-Gon teased him as he activated his light saber.
RE: Mist of Dawn: The Stone of Faith ~*Post 5*~
Terry stuck his head in Obi-Wan’s room, watching the teen in silence. Obi-Wan was currently working on cleaning his light saber hilt, there was a scratch that refused to come out, so he was employing some major elbow grease, while singing a song he had heard ont he radio/.Terry swallowed back a laugh at the intense look on Obi-Wan’s face. He accidentally let loose a tiny chuckle and Obi-Wan quickly looked up, blushing when he realized he had an audience.
“What are you looking at?” Obi-Wan snapped at him after seeing his amusement. Terry just laughed all the more, and he fell onto the sleep couch, grabbing his sides. “What are you laughing at?” Obi-Wan said as he stood up angrily. Terry just gestured helplessly, and Obi-Wan felt a giggle, yes a giggle, start to form in his on throat. It burst out and soon he was laying next to Terry, laughing till tears were pouring out of his eyes. He didn’t know what he was laughing about, but it felt good!
“Obi-Wan I need you...” Qui-Gon stopped in the doorway at the sight of the younger men wiping tears away, grinning from ear to ear. “What are you two laughing about?” Qui-Gon couldn’t help smiling at the red faces and he stepped into the room.
“Sorry... Master! We were... just... talking.” Obi-Wan managed to get out. Terry nodded and sat up.
“Qui-Gon, what did you need?” Terry said as he helped Obi-Wan sit up. Qui-Gon noticed the easy way the two younger men now acted around one another. It seemed Terry was getting his wish to get to know Obi-Wan.
“I was going to ask Obi-Wan to try and contact the planet. Padawan, the pilot will show you everything, I need to talk with Terry for a minute.” Qui-Gon rested his hand lightly on his student’s shoulder, squeezing it, showing Obi-Wan his love for him. Obi-Wan sent a pulse through their bond, and smiled back at his master. Obi-Wan stood up to leave, gathering his scattered tools.
Obi-Wan walked out the door, smiling to himself as he thought of what had just happened. Terry and he had gotten along great! Almost like brothers. He’d never had any close guy friends before, so this was perfect. He smiled as he walked towards the cockpit, thinking about the next time he could talk to Terry and ask him what it’s like to be a knight.
Qui-Gon sat in the seat Obi-Wan had vacated and opened his mouth to talk.
“I know what your going to say Qui-Gon. I felt it too, when you asked him to go send the message. But nothing’s going to happen, we’re on private transport, no one has any idea it’s the legendary Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
Qui-Gon just rested his chin in his hand and sighed. “I just always jumping to conclusions when it concerns Obi-Wan. I can’t take the chance of losing him, I don’t think I’d be able to go on without him.” Qui-Gon sighed again, “There I go again, sounding negative.” He smiled at Terry and stood to leave the room.
“What did you need to tell me?” Terry asked the master as he stood to leave.
“Oh, I just said that so I could see what you two were doing.” Qui-Gon’s grin said it all, but it faded quickly when the ship lurched beneath his feet, sending him sprawling into Terry. Terry’s head hit the wall, hard. “Terry, are you all right?” Qui-Gon asked the man underneath him.
“Yeah,” Terry grunted as he struggled to sit up with the help of Qui-Gon, “I just have a slight headache.” He gently touched the back of his head, wincing when he found the small knot forming on it. He glanced at Qui-Gon, and quickly touched his friend’s hand, bringing the older man out of his trance. “Qui-Gon, are you all right? What’s wrong? Is it Obi-Wan?” Terry fired the questions out, his stomach turning queasy at the thought of his new found friend being in trouble, or worse, hurt.
“Someone’s taken over the ship, they killed the pilot. That’s why the ship was out of control for a second.”
Terry sat staring at the older man in shock. “You know this information because Obi-Wan’s telling you?” He remembered to close his jaw after asking his question. If these two could talk to each other through their bond, then they were the closest Master/Padawan duo he had ever seen!
Qui-Gon doubled over in pain, grunting. “We’ve got to get to the cockpit, they’re hurting him.” Another sharp pain tore through the master’s side as he climbed to his feet. His hiss filled the otherwise silent cabin.
“Are you going to be okay to make it Qui-Gon?” Terry asked him in concern for both his friend and Obi-Wan.
“It’s Obi-Wan you should be worried about, now lets go!” Qui-Gon said through clenched teeth, fighting off the pain blossoming in his chest. The two men ran out the door, turning towards the front of the ship, hoping they wouldn’t be too late.
~~~~~
Obi-Wan hummed a favorite song of his as he walked down the corridor towards the cockpit. He hadn’t had access to a radio at all since he had been on board. He’d have to ask Qui-Gon if there were any he could borrow. If there was one thing Obi-Wan liked more than fighting with his saber, it was singing. Nobody knew his hobby, of course, but he practiced when no one was around. It was another way to release his pent up emotions without getting into trouble. If Qui-Gon found out, he’d probably laugh so hard, he’d be crying.
But Obi-Wan didn’t care, as long as nobody heard him. He arrived at the door that separated him from the pilot, and knocked on the door. It slid open with a hiss, and he walked across the threshold. “My master asks that you orbit the planet until we communicate with the Leviblian government.”
The pilot glanced over his shoulder at the young man, nodding in understanding. Obi-Wan looked around the room before heading back to the door, something didn’t seem right. But he couldn’t figure out what it was. He closed his eyes and reached out to the force. When he couldn’t find anything, he opened his eyes and palmed the door.
The warning in the force came too late, and he couldn’t shut the door before the blast hit the room behind him. He felt the fiery explosion hit his back, sending him flying into the wall. His head hit with a sickening crack, sending him into darkness.
Soooo?
