Twisted: Part Six

With help from Mace, Qui-Gon made his way into Obi-Wan’s room. T’Gaz and his Padawan who remained in the room left immediately without any prompting, wheeling out various pieces of equipment as they went. Mace held Qui-Gon firmly by the shoulders as the broken hearted Master gazed on the lifeless body of his Padawan.

“Mace, could you leave for a moment?” Qui-Gon asked, not even trying to keep the agony out of his voice.

“Sure,” Mace said. “I’ll be just out there if you need me.”

Mace retreated into the corridor where T’Gaz stood with his apprentice. Both looked despondent. Mace noticed a hypospray in T’Gaz’s palm. Mace gave the healer a questioning glance.

“It’s a sedative,” T’Gaz explained. “Just in case.”

Mace nodded. “Let’s just give him a little time okay? Maybe it’ll be alright.”

Mace had never doubted the words that came out of his mouth so much as he did in that moment.

***

Qui-Gon sat heavily on the edge of the bed, his eyes fixed on Obi-Wan’s pale face. Placing one large hand over Obi-Wan’s smaller one, Qui-Gon found that Obi-Wan was still fairly warm. He hadn’t been gone all that long.

How? How could’ve this happened? Why was Obi-Wan gone? Qui-Gon had never thought for even a moment that he might out live the boy. Only in his darkest nightmares had Qui-Gon had to witness Obi-Wan’s death.

But Qui-Gon hadn’t even been there to comfort his Padawan when the boy had most needed him. Qui-Gon hadn’t been able to soothe him or even be there to try and save him. He had been too preoccupied.

“This is all wrong,” Qui-Gon whispered. Tears fell unheeded down his face. “This isn’t the way it should be!”

Sobbing uncontrollably now, Qui-Gon lifted Obi-Wan up in his arms and wept like a child. Normally Obi-Wan would hug back and offer all the comfort he possibly could. But now he remained silent, his arms hanging limply. Realising this caused Qui-Gon yet more pain and he unconsciously reached out to the Force. Without realising the damage he was capable of doing, Qui-Gon caused monitors to explode and the windows trembled and cracked.

Mace and T’Gaz entered. T’Gaz looked around the room in dismay. In the past couple of days his infirmary had been looking more and more like the site of a bomb explosion. Mace gently pulled Qui-Gon away, all the while quietly talking to his friend in order to help him calm down. Qui-Gon noticed what was going on around him and instantly the mayhem stopped. T’Gaz came forward, hypo ready but Mace waved him off.

“Come on Qui,” he said. “Let’s just go and sit down okay? T’Gaz needs to carry out some tests now.”

Qui-Gon was easily led away, to dumbfounded and heartsick to argue and T’Gaz let out a sigh. “Pascal come in,” he called out to his apprentice.

Pascal was a tall, willowy nineteen-year-old humanoid. Her one and only notable difference from a human female were the two almost transparent wings she had on her back. Her tunics therefore had to have large openings in the back for her wings to poke through. Aside from a long Padawan braid, a headband restrained the rest of her dark brown hair. But if one saw Pascal from the front, they wouldn’t realise that she wasn’t completely human.

“Shall I com the OR and inform them we have an autopsy to carry out?” she asked, her voice clearly upset. It was the first time she’d ever lost a patient.

T’Gaz sighed. “Yes please Pascal. Inform them we wish to begin immediately.”

Pascal nodded and left quietly. T’Gaz pulled a white sheet over Obi-Wan and then he too left. He met Pascal by the com unit.

“They say that they’ve got an operation going on down there at the moment. An initiate has appendicitis. They say they’ll be done within a hour,” Pascal informed her Master.

“Thank you Pascal. Perhaps we should start tidying up that room then,” T’Gaz smiled sadly. “Looks like things will be quiet around here from now on.”

***

“A tragic loss this is,” Yoda said, after Mace had given him and the rest of the council the news. “How fares Qui-Gon?”

Mace shook his head. “Not very well. I used a Force suggestion to put him to sleep until I return. I don’t think it is safe for him to be alone right now.”

“Hmmmmm, hard time this will be for Qui-Gon,” Yoda replied. “Stay with him for the time being you must Master Windu. Come with you to see him I will now.”

Yoda hobbled over to Mace and the pair left the council chambers in silence and headed back to Qui-Gon.

Halfway to Qui-Gon’s room, Mace stopped. “Master Yoda would it be all right if I went to the infirmary to see if they have any results from the autopsy yet?” he asked.

Yoda nodded. “Suggest that I was about to. Read my mind you must have. Go Mace and leave Qui-Gon to me.”

Mace nodded his thanks and headed off to the infirmary.

***

Kyrana lay strapped on her bed, her eyes glued to the ceiling above her. Jensa had just asked whether or not Kyrana wanted to see Lena.

Kyrana had not been happy. She had tried to attack the counsellor. It was fortunate that Kyrana was Force suppressed, otherwise Jensa might not have been quite so lucky. Some healer’s had tied her to the bed and then removed Jensa, who was now sponsoring a broken, bloody nose. If she hadn’t been tied down and Force suppressed, Kyrana imagined that she would’ve killed Jensa. The thought didn’t even sicken the girl, it amused her.

Kyrana glared at the ceiling, willing it to cave in. She wanted out of this bed. She wanted out of just about everything. She was no longer depressed, she was angry. Very angry and she snapped at anyone who came anywhere near her. She began to struggle against the restraints that kept her down but she couldn’t escape them and this only enraged her further.

T’Gaz looked in at the girl from the doorway. He sighed as he watched her try to escape. Soon he would have to knock her out to keep her from hurting herself. He wanted to try the treatment that he had used on Obi-Wan because he was sure that the treatment itself was not the cause of Obi-Wan’s sudden death but Lena had forbade such action until an autopsy had been carried out and the exact cause of death had been discovered.

He wanted to believe that it was not his fault that Obi-Wan had died but the little voice in the back of his mind wouldn’t let him forget for too long.

Pascal lightly tapped her Master’s arm, pulling him out of his reverie. “Master they’re ready for us to begin the autopsy now.”

T’Gaz turned to his apprentice. “Take him down. I’ll be there in a moment. Take the blood samples first and then wait for me.”

Pascal nodded. “Yes Master,” she said and then turned to go. “Master? Don’t take this all too hard. It’s not your fault you know. Please don’t blame yourself.”

T’Gaz offered her a smile. “I know Pascal, I know. I just…”

“Can’t help it, I know,” Pascal said, reading her Master’s mind. “Don’t you worry about anything Master. If you need to talk just ask me.” Pascal offered her Master a smile. “Well for now just do what you can for Kyrana and then we can get this autopsy behind us.”

T’Gaz gave his apprentice a quick hug. “Thank you Pascal. You don’t know how much that means to me.”

Pascal just smiled and then she left. T’Gaz watched his apprentice disappear down the corridor before he entered Kyrana’s room.

***

Pascal pushed the hoverbed into the OR. The room was perfectly clean, quiet and empty. Pascal gently placed the hoverbed onto the main operating table in the centre of the room and pulled back the sheet covering Obi-Wan. His lips were now tinged with blue and his skin was pale. She moved the lights in order to get the best kind of light she could and then set about getting the equipment she would need.

Pascal was putting all the equipment on a tray by the bed when she caught a glimpse of something out the corner of her eye. Her head snapped up and focused on Obi-Wan’s hand. She could’ve sworn those fingers just moved slightly.

“Oh stop it you’re imagining things,” she muttered to herself.

Moving off again, Pascal once again snapped her head around and focused her attention on Obi-Wan. Once again, nothing happened.

“This is ridiculous,” she mumbled but still she watched the boy’s body very carefully.

So intent was Pascal on trying to catch a glimpse of movement from Obi-Wan, she didn’t notice someone enter the room.

“What are you doing?” came a half amused, half stern voice.

Pascal yelped in surprise and spun to face the newcomer. It was Mace Windu. “Oh Master Windu!” She laughed nervously. “My apologies, I didn’t see you come in.”

Mace just about managed to hid his grin. “Is this your first autopsy?” he asked, genuinely interested.

Pascal nodded and then focused her attention on collecting blood samples. “Yes Master Windu. I don’t know what it is but something tells me I won’t be getting a chance to do this one either.”

“Oh really?” Mace asked. “What makes you think that?”

Pascal placed the blood samples in a tray and sealed them, ready to be taken to the labs. “I’m not really sure but I thought I saw him move.”

There was no stopping the grin this time. “You said this was your first autopsy, correct?” Mace said once his expression was completely under control. Pascal gave an affirmative so Mace went on. “Then perhaps it’s possible that you are just imagining these things. Your imagination is just making you see such things. One too many horror holovids if you ask me.”

Pascal sighed. “I suppose you’re right. I just can’t help but wish it were so. I can’t imagine what Master Jinn is going through right now.”

Mace sighed himself. “He’s not too good at the moment but I’m sure in time he’ll be…” Mace trailed off and he too fixed his gaze on Obi-Wan. “Did you just see that?”

Pascal frowned. “See what?” Obi-Wan’s finger’s twitched. Pascal panicked slightly. “Okay now I’m freaking out!”

“Ugh.”

Pascal let out a shriek of terror and even Mace stepped back as Obi-Wan slowly started to move. His eyes snapped open and he turned his head to face Mace and Pascal.

“What…?” the boy began.

“ZOMBIE!” Pascal screamed and bolted out the door.

“DON’T LEAVE ME IN HERE ALONE WITH IT!” Mace yelled and fled after her.

Obi-Wan slowly sat up, aware of his pounding head, sore throat, aching chest and heavy limbs. His expression was one of confusion.

“What just happened?” he asked.

***

Mace and Pascal managed to successfully confuse enough people to more or less evacuate the infirmary.

“Just what is going on?” T’Gaz demanded.

Mace turned to Pascal. “You explain it to him,” the breathless Master told her. “I have to tell Qui-Gon.”

Mace dashed off and left Pascal. All eyes turned towards her. Pascal blushed a little. “Okay,” she said. “This is going to sound really stupid.”

***

Ever so slowly, Obi-Wan slid off the bed. His bare feet slapped the ground as he walked to the doors. He was relieved to see that he was still dressed in his pyjamas. But what had happened? The last thing he remembered was not being able to breathe properly. He remembered feeling the Force suddenly as well. But how was that possible? Hadn’t he been Force suppressed? What had happened then?

Obi-Wan slowly made his way back to the ward. On his way he didn’t bump into anyone. He poked his head into some of the doors but it was as if the entire infirmary had been evacuated. No one was around.

“Where’d everybody go?” he asked himself.

Obi-Wan stuck his head through the next door and found Kyrana in there. Seeing as she was apparently the only person left in the infirmary, Obi-Wan went in. Kyrana was asleep.

“Kyrana?” Obi-Wan called out. “Kyrana wake up!”

Seeing that the girl wasn’t about to wake up through calling out her name, Obi-Wan instinctively reached out to the Force. He was surprised when he felt it again. Once again he thought, /Wasn’t I been suppressed?/ Obi-Wan shook his head as if to clear all the questions that were storming around it.

Obi-Wan used the Force to wake Kyrana up. She took one look at him and then her face broke into a grin. “Obi-Wan!” She said happily. “Great! Maybe you could give me a hand?”

Obi-Wan frowned. “A hand with what?”

Kyrana rolled her eyes. “The restraints of course!” she said. “That stupid T’Gaz guy was meant to untie me earlier but he had to leave suddenly. He told me to ask the next person who came along.”

Obi-Wan frowned slightly. Although Kyrana sounded truthful enough, the Force was giving off subtle warnings.

“Obi-Wan please you have to get me out of here! Come on this place was evacuated a minute ago for some reason and everyone forgot about me!” Kyrana said pleadingly.

Despite his misgivings, Obi-Wan freed Kyrana. She slowly climbed down from the bed. “Thanks Obi-Wan, you’ve been a great help,” she said with a sunny smile.

Obi-Wan turned to lead the way out of the infirmary. The Force suddenly screamed at Obi-Wan to duck but he was still a little sluggish and before he could move, something heavy collided with his skull. He slumped to the ground, his vision blurring and fading out.

The last thing he was aware of was Kyrana grabbing hold of his feet and start dragging him away.

***

Yoda left Qui-Gon on the sofa for a moment and opened the frantically buzzing door. An excited Mace stood there, practically dancing in the corridor.

“Come in and explain yourself you will,” Yoda ordered.

Mace barrelled in and headed straight for Qui-Gon. “Good news old friend!” he blurted out. “The healer’s got it wrong! Obi-Wan’s not dead!”

Qui-Gon slowly lifted puffy red eyes. “What?” He asked sounding vaguely surprised.

“Obi-Wan’s okay!” Mace said again. “I admit at first we thought he was a zombie but he’s not and he’s alive and come on Qui-Gon you have to come and see this!”

Yoda came back in. “Calm yourself you will Mace before damage you do yourself.”

But Mace was having none of it. He grabbed Qui-Gon by the arm, who grumbled a quiet protest. “Come on Qui! Stop wallowing and get up! Obi-Wan is A.L.I.V.E!”

Qui-Gon tentatively reached out with the Force. He was overjoyed when he felt the presence of his Padawan back where it should be. Suddenly understanding Mace’s excitement, Qui-Gon jumped off the sofa and rushed after Mace.

Yoda whacked his stick on the ground and began hobbling as fast as he could after the two long legged Jedi. “The death of me this will be!”

***

Kyrana dropped Obi-Wan’s legs when they reached the infirmary’s pharmacy. Kyrana rummaged around and grinned when she found the antidote to the Force suppressant that was in her system. Master Lena had taught Kyrana all she could about Force suppressants in case of emergency.

*’Looks like all those long boring hours of first aid training finally came in handy.’*

Kyrana frowned when she thought that. /Yes, it has come in handy but I don’t think this was what Master Lena had in mind./

*’Never mind that now,’* the other voice said. *’Let’s just grab Obi-Wan and go. Places to go, people to see remember?’*

Nodding to herself though not really understanding what the voice in her mind meant, Kyrana reached out to the Force and easily lifted Obi-Wan over her shoulder. It was time to go.

***

Lena was sitting in her apartment with Jensa, having a long discussion over steaming cups of tea. Lena was about to apologise to Jensa for her Padawan’s behaviour when a sudden surge in the Force in the back of her mind where the training bond she shared with Kyrana indicated that the bond had flared to life. Lena frowned because T’Gaz had informed her that no such thing would be happening for a good few weeks at least.

“Lena? Lena is everything all right?”

Lena drew her attention back to Jensa. “The strangest thing just happened,” Lena told Jensa. “I think I’d better get to the infirmary.”

Jensa nodded and placed her nice warm tea down on the table. “I’ll come with you.”

***

Qui-Gon and Mace arrived at the infirmary to see all the healer’s still standing outside.

“Master Windu what is going on?” T’Gaz demanded.

Qui-Gon ploughed his way through the gaggle of healers and ran into the infirmary. Mace spotted him and headed after him, not bothering to answer T’Gaz’s query. Moments later, Lena came running through. T’Gaz managed to catch Jensa as she followed.

“Maybe you can explain all this,” he said.

***

Kyrana knew she couldn’t take the front way out of the infirmary because there were way too many Jedi out there for her to escape from.

/Escape from?/ she thought in confusion. /Why do I want to escape from them?/

Without consciously making the decision to do so Kyrana started walking towards the emergency exit. She couldn’t seem to control her movements. It was as if her body was suddenly working independently, without any need for Kyrana’s thoughts.

/This can’t be good,/ she worried. /I shouldn’t be feeling this way./

Kyrana, or rather Kyrana’s feet, led to the emergency stairs. Lifting Obi-Wan over onto her other shoulder to give her other one a break, Kyrana was about to go bounding down the stairwell when a shout from behind caused her to stop.

Kyrana turned around and saw three Jedi Master’s, one of them her own, standing behind her.

“Kyrana where are you going?” Lena asked.

Kyrana tried to open her mouth and tell her Master that something was wrong but she couldn’t. Thinking fast Kyrana used the bond instead and was glad to find that it was still under her control.

//Master help me! I can’t control myself!//

Lena started heading forward but Kyrana backed away and stepped into the emergency exit.

//Kyra you must let Obi-Wan go and let the healer’s take care of you both.// Lena told her Padawan.

“Shut up bitch,” Kyrana suddenly said. Lena frowned. Inside her head, Kyrana gasped. //No Master don’t listen! That’s not me! It’s not…!//

Kyrana’s access to the bond was suddenly cut off. *’Shut the hell up,’* the nasty voice warned. *’Lena doesn’t want to help you she wants to hurt you! Now let’s go!’*

Kyrana turned and fled into the fire escape. She slammed the door and locked it before any of the Master’s could get there in time to stop her. Lena turned to Qui-Gon. “See if you can’t get through to Obi-Wan. Maybe he can help.”

Qui-Gon nodded. //Obi-Wan?//

***

Obi-Wan slowly opened his eyes. /Now what?/ he thought. His head had felt bad before, now he thought it might explode.

//Obi-Wan?//

Obi-Wan’s muddled brain took a few moments to properly interpret the call. //Master!//

Intense relief and happiness poured through the bond. //Obi-Wan can you stop Kyrana?//

Obi-Wan sent back a negative. //Not right as this moment Master. I can barely think straight.//

//Okay just stay with me so we can trace you.//

Obi-Wan’s eyes were drooping as he fought a losing battle with consciousness. //Sure… Master.//

//Hang tough Padawan. This will all be over soon.//

And then Obi-Wan passed out again and Kyrana remained blissfully ignorant of the conversation her captive had just had.

***

Qui-Gon, Mace, Lena, T’Gaz, Daom and two of the three Elmvanian ambassadors stood in conference room in the infirmary.

“Okay, I think we have some answers now,” Daom said. “I think I can tell you why Obi-Wan appeared to die.”

“‘Appeared to die’?” Qui-Gon quoted. “Oh he didn’t ‘appear to die’ he died alright. I felt it.”

Daom nodded. “Yes well I know that. Basically the Force suppressant in Obi-Wan’s system was all but gone but because the drug was still very active in his system, Obi-Wan had no control over the Force and therefore the Force reacted in a way that put Obi-Wan into a deep hibernation in order to fight the virus. The hibernation was so deep that it cut him off completely from us and made it appear as if he were dead.”

“And what of the drug?” Qui-Gon asked.

“The Force seems to have wiped it out and the vaccines are no longer adversely affecting him,” Daom replied. “When we get Kyrana back here, we’ll do the same with her, only in a much more controlled way.”

“But why didn’t this happen to Kyrana when she removed the Force suppressant?” Lena asked.

“Because Kyrana doesn’t have that virus in her system as well. But that means we need to get her back all the much more because as you know she is clearly not in control of what she is doing,” Daom explained.

“So how do we find them?” Qui-Gon asked. “I can’t reach Obi-Wan through our bond at the moment.”

Yashan slid forward a little uncertainly. “I believe I may have the answer to that,” he said, sounding a little unsure of himself. “Do you remember the chips that were placed in Padawans’ Kenobi and Kyrana during their captivity?” Qui-Gon and Lena nodded. Yashan continued. “Well I have reason to believe that those chips are still in them. They aren’t active at the moment because we made sure of it back on Elmvanis but Shirai and I can easily reactivate them in order for you to track the pair.”

“Do it,” Qui-Gon said.

“I don’t mean to sound rude but where is Ambassador Frea?” Lena asked.

“She sends her apologies but she decided to go and visit some of Courscant’s other medical facilities. She is curious about the planet. I hope this is alright with you,” Shirai explained.

No one minded and after a few minutes more of discussion, Daom led the ambassadors back to the lab. Qui-Gon sat down heavily in a nearby chair, his head in his hands. Lena stood by a window, her tail gently swaying from side to side. Mace and T’Gaz stood talking quietly in a corner. All four looked up in surprise as the door to the room slid open. At first no one saw who was there. They all looked down a little and saw Yoda standing in the doorway, leaning heavily on his cane.

“Missed anything have I?” the aged Master asked.

TBC....

See I'm really not THAT evil...

Twisted: Part Seven

Kyrana made her way to a speeder that was waiting just outside the Temple grounds. Dumping Obi-Wan in the back seat, she took the controls.

/Where am I going?/ she thought. Kyrana tried to move her arm in the way *she* wanted it to move but still she seemed to have no control over her body. /This is so frustrating! I’m a prisoner in my own body!/

Without access to the Force anymore, Kyrana was completely cut off from the world. She had tried contacting her Master but her voice only echoed around her own head. She could still see out of her own eyes and feel everything around her but she couldn’t control what her body was doing. Nothing in her life had ever been so frustrating. But who was it that was controlling her?

Kyrana drove the speeder at dizzying speeds and didn’t even bother to stop for other drivers. Kyrana couldn’t help but wish Obi-Wan would wake up and take control of the entire situation but he was out for the count. Kyrana cursed in her head. Things were looking very bad.

*’Would you please quit complaining,’* Kyrana’s nasty voice grumbled. *’You are such a moaner!’*

/Who are you?/ Kyrana asked. She was beginning to think that the other voice in her head wasn’t hers at all but the voice of whoever or whatever it was that was controlling her.

*’You’ll know soon enough,’* the voice said. Kyrana looked around and then the voice spoke again. *’It’s time to land.’*

The speeder parked up outside an old office block that had probably been home to only Coruscant’s vermin population for over a century. Kyrana watched on as she reached out, lifted Obi-Wan over her shoulder and began walking to a large entrance. Outside the speeder, the air stank of rot and sewerage. Kyrana saw some kind of dark black substance under her feet, making a slurping noise with each footstep. She didn’t want to know what it was.

When she reached the entrance, Kyrana noticed a trio of men, one large human, one hairy Togorian and one Twilek, standing waiting for her. The Togorian took Obi-Wan away from Kyrana. “Such a heavy burden is too much for such a pretty little thing like you,” the Togorian said, and reached out to stroke one of Kyrana’s cheeks.

If Kyrana had been in control, she would have ducked away and given the ugly creature a drop kick to prove she wasn’t just a little girl. But because Kyrana’s body remained out of her control, she was forced to stand passively and endure it. Inwardly, Kyrana shuddered with revulsion. She hated being unable to protect herself, being unable to save herself from unwelcome touches.

“Come in, come in,” the large, greasy looking human said, giving Kyrana a lot of attention. “The boss has been expectin’ ya.”

Outwardly Kyrana showed no emotion. Even if she had been able, she would have controlled her expressions because she was a Jedi. Yet on the inside Kyrana trembled with fear. It was time to find out who it was that was controlling her and why.

Back in the healer’s conference room in the Temple, Qui-Gon gave Yoda the details of everything that the aged Master had missed. The ambassadors and everyone else with the exception of Mace and Lena had long since left to set up the equipment needed to locate the two missing Padawans.

“Know how long it will be until we can begin a search?” Yoda asked.

“Not until tomorrow morning,” Lena answered.

“Then get some sleep you will before then,” Yoda ordered Lena and Qui-Gon. “Tomorrow will be a long day.”

Bowing to the Master, Qui-Gon and Lena left Mace and Yoda alone. “Now explain to me you will why informed the entire staff of healer’s you did that a…zombie…had invaded the infirmary.”

Mace flushed with embarrassment but reluctantly began telling the tale that had already taken the Temple by storm.

Outside the room, Qui-Gon and Lena stood in the corridor muffling their laughter, using the Force to amplify their hearing so they could hear Mace’s explanation of the story. Yoda, of course, knew that the pair of Masters were there but said nothing. This little escapade of Mace’s would go down in the history books and Yoda wasn’t going to be the one to stop it.

***

Shirai and Daom followed behind Yashan to the lab. Daom had just told the female ambassador that there were some pieces of equipment needed for the tool that would hopefully find the missing Padawans that they didn’t have here at the temple. Shirai had offered to get them and Daom had agreed. She was going to the lab in order to get the list of what she needed. At the entrance to the lab, Frea met them.

“Why are you back so early?” Yashan asked. “I thought your tours of the medical centres was supposed to last a longer than this.”

“I got a message telling me what had happened so I cut my visits short,” Frea explained. “I thought you could use the help.”

Shirai nodded. “It’s a good thing too. We’re short on some equipment we need in order to construct the tracker so I’m going to get them. Yashan can fill you in on what you missed.”

Frea agreed and went into the lab with Yashan. Daom handed Shirai a datapad with a list of the equipment and directions to the store that sold it all.

Shirai thanked Daom. “I shouldn’t be too long and if I am it’s only because I got lost.”

“Would you like someone to accompany you?” Daom offered. “I could send my apprentice with you.”

“Oh, no, no don’t worry about that. I’ve been absolutely dying to investigate Coruscant for myself and dragging your apprentice along would be unfair. And anyway, if I get very lost, I’ve always got my com,” Shirai replied and walked away before Daom could respond.

Kyrana followed the motley crew into a large, shabby conference room on the first floor of the office block that seemed about ready to collapse under the weight of neglect. She automatically sat down in one corner and Obi-Wan was dumped next to her. The Twilek put stun cuffs round her wrists and ankles.

“What are you going to do with us?” Kyrana asked and then sat back, a shocked expression on her face. She was in control again. But in her present situation, it didn’t really matter. She was still a prisoner. She reached out to the Force but it was still untouchable. No surprises there.

“Shut it,” the human said. He bent down in front of Kyrana and sprayed something in her face. “That should do the trick. Can’t stand yappin’ girls.”

Kyrana opened her mouth to speak but no words came out. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t talk. She hadn’t lost control of her body again but whatever had just been sprayed on her had instantly stolen her voice. She glared at the group but they just gave her sick grins. The Togorian was about to speak when his comlink buzzed. He went away a little and answered it.

Next to her, Obi-Wan began to stir. The Twilek instantly snapped stun cuffs around his wrists and ankles and then backed away as if he feared for his safety. He walked away and stood with his two mates. Obi-Wan’s eyes opened and slowly turned to Kyrana’s. “What…?” he began but Kyrana cut him off with a sharp shake of her head. Obi-Wan frowned but remained silent as he slowly sat up.

“What’s going on?” Obi-Wan whispered, his voice still groggy.

Kyrana shrugged and then looked Obi-Wan in the eye. She tried to say “I’m sorry” but her voice was still gone. Obi-Wan frowned but read her lips.

“Hey, it’s okay. You weren’t feeling right and I know how you feel. But what happened to your voice?” Obi-Wan asked.

“They sprayed something into my face and I haven’t been able to talk since” Kyrana explained. She was lucky Obi-Wan was good at lip-reading because not even the quietest whisper came from her mouth. “Got any ideas to get us out of here? Can you use the Force?”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “They must have drugged us again or something. But we have to think of a way to get out of here,” Obi-Wan whispered back to her. “Whatever’s going on with us can’t be good. I think…”

A booted foot connected with Obi-Wan’s stomach and he doubled over in pain, coughing as the wind got knocked out of him. A hand reached down and grabbed Obi-Wan by the braid.

“I told you no talking!” the human spat out. He started to lower Obi-Wan back down but did a double take and pulled Obi-Wan back up. “It’s you! That little Jedi that made a fool outta me! I thought you were dead!”

Obi-Wan nearly groaned aloud. Things just weren’t going his way at the moment. The man pulled Obi-Wan closer to his face. “Well this time I’ll do it right,” he promised and began dragging Obi-Wan away.

Kyrana tried to stand up and stop the man but the stun cuffs lived up to their name. With a short, sharp buzz, Kyrana lay dazed on the floor. Obi-Wan struggled to escape from the man’s arms but failed miserably. He was still feeling the effects of the virus. He felt better than earlier but his head felt like a bantha had been stomping on it and his limbs felt as though he had just sparred for hours on end with his Master.

“Emado,” the Togorian called over from where he had been speaking on the comlink. “She’s here. Leave the boy.”

The human, Emado, dragged Obi-Wan back to where Kyrana was. “I’ll get you later,” he sneered, and gave Obi-Wan a firm shove for good measure. He turned back to his co-workers. “Tylo,” he called to the Togorian, “You and Yev leave the boy to me later, got it?”

“Sure thing boss,” they both said as they were leaving to get ready for the arrival of whoever it was they had just been speaking to.

Obi-Wan looked at Kyrana, who was coming back to her senses, or at least most of her senses. Without the Force, both Jedi were missing their extra senses.

“I have a bad feeling about this,” Obi-Wan admitted quietly and Kyrana nodded her agreement.

The doors to the rotting room were suddenly flung open and Tylo and the Twilek, Yev, came in escorting a very well dressed and elegant looking woman. The woman’s features were hidden behind a pure white hood. She held a black bag in gloved hands. The bag was a total contrast from the white clothes she was wearing. She walked over and crouched down in front of Obi-Wan and Kyrana. Obi-Wan could now see her mouth and he watched as it curved into a sweet, yet menacing smile. He could also tell from the white shade of her skin that she wasn’t human.

“Perfect,” she murmered. “You two are just the people I wanted to see.”

She stood back up and walked away a little. “Boys,” she called to her three henchmen, “leave us.”

“As you wish ma’am,” Emado said as he left with Tylo and Yev.

“Wait outside by my speeder. I’ll be with you in a minute to give you your next job details,” the woman added.

“Of course m’lady,” Emado said and then he closed the doors.

The woman turned back to Obi-Wan and Kyrana. She opened the bag she was carrying and reached into it. “Now then, I believe it’s time for the two of you to have your medicine.” The woman pulled out two full hyposprays.

Obi-Wan and Kyrana shared a glance. Medicine? That didn’t sound good.

“Who are you?” Obi-Wan asked, trying to stall for time while he thought of another plan. The only thing he could come up with was to kick the hypos out of the woman’s hands and make a dash for it. Of course, that would be difficult in stun cuffs.

The woman reached up to her hood. “What’s that line I hear on so many of the holo-movies I see around here?” she mused aloud. “Oh, of course! I’m your worst nightmare.”

The woman pulled back her hood and Obi-Wan managed to hold back a gasp of surprise. He couldn’t stop his eyes from widening though.

“Ambassador Shirai?” he asked, aghast.

Shirai smirked and took a bow. “The one and only.”

TBC... grin

[face_shocked] The Ambassador!!!!!!! [face_shocked]

I was expecting more of a "Who are you"
"Obi-Wan, I am your father"

line more than it being the Ambassador! [face_shocked] silly Wow. Erm, wow. Wasn't expecting that there. Bowing to the Master, Qui-Gon and Lena left Mace and Yoda alone. “Now explain to me you will why informed the entire staff of healer’s you did that a…zombie…had invaded the infirmary.”

Ginger , well in my little world, there are only two rules for writing JA fanfic with Obi:

Rule #1: Obi-Wan must be tortured emotionally, physcially, mentally or a mixture of the three.

Rule #2: No killing Obi off!!

But seriously:

"ZOMBIE!" Pascal sreamed and bolted out the door.

"DON'T LEAVE ME IN HERE ALONE WITH IT!" Mace yelled and fled after her.

and

"Good news old friend!" he blurted out. "The healers got it wrong! Obi-Wan's not dead!"

and of course,

"Obi-Wan's okay!" Mace said again. "I admit at first we thought he was a zombie but he's not and he's alive and come on Qui-Gon you have to come see this!"

laugh laugh laugh laugh Thanks, I really did need that! grin

Now post soon or I'll send one of those werewolves after you.... grin

Twisted: Part Eight

"Why are you doing this?" Obi-Wan asked as Shirai came ever closer, bearing drug-filled hypos. "What have we ever done to you?"

Shirai laughed harshly. "Between the pair of you and your Masters, you have succeeded in corrupting my home planet!" she snarled.

Kyrana and Obi-Wan shared a look. "But that's what you wanted," Obi-Wan pointed out. "Freedom for the people of your planet to live as they please. You wanted to free the Misfits and you did. You wanted equality for all and allow people to leave the planet if they wished to do so. I thought you wanted to allow others to see your planet."

Shirai let out another short snort. "I agree that I wanted equality for all but I certainly didn't want it in the way you just explained it. And I most certainly did not want our magnificent planet to be corrupted by outsiders!" Shirai caught the confused looks on the two Padawan's faces. "But of course, you weren't to know about that. I wanted to free females from the oppression of men like the rule Moeren had. I was sick of seeing women forced into slavery simply because they weren't male. When you came along, I thought we had the perfect opportunity so I played along. Only..."

"Only you got a little more than you bargained for," Obi-Wan concluded.

Shirai shot him a venomous look. "Indeed," she said agreed grudgingly. "And there's nothing I can do to make things how they were. The shield that surrounded our planet and hid it from sensors was destroyed and people left our planet as fast as they could. Misfits began to mingle with everyone. Our planet had become chaotic. I want things the way they were." Shirai bent down in front of Obi-Wan and Kyrana and placed hypos against their necks. "You two will be an example to the others. Our planet goes back to the way it was or you two will be permanently uncontrollable."

“How selfish,” Kyrana mouthed to Obi-Wan and he was forced to agree. Shirai may want things to be the way they were but who was to say everyone else would want what she wanted?

She depressed the hypo trigger and drugs flowed into the two teenagers systems. With Kyrana the effects were immediate. She instantly tried to attack Shirai but Obi-Wan held her back. The drugs were, as of yet, having no effect on him.

"You're the one who did all this to us," Obi-Wan said, realisation dawning. "But how...?"

Shirai stood up and brushed herself down. Obi-Wan always got the impression that if he pushed an Elmvanian female a little too hard, she'd break into tiny pieces. Their arms were as thin as twigs and looked as though they were made out of brittle glass. Shirai's personality, however, dispelled of Obi-Wan's fragile image of her. This woman was brutal.

Shirai looked at Obi-Wan. "It was all quite simple really. When we first discovered the problems of multi-vaccinations, I discovered that the pair of you had had them as well. Remember the chips the Misfits placed in you? They were never removed and I used them to track you down. When I arrived on Courscant I was able tp transmit subliminal messages into your minds to enhance the effects of the drug." Shirai turned a smug look to Kyrana. "I used it to control you young lady. I imagine you were feeling quite odd there for a while."

“You can say that again,” Kyrana mouthed angrily, her green eyes flashing with barely restrained rage. The drug was already taking a firm hold on her.

"I employed the help of those three idiots out there to track you down and deal with you." Shirai folded her thin white arms and fixed her gaze on Obi-Wan. "Clearly they aren't too good at their job."

"No kidding."

Shirai walked away from the pair and pulled something out of her bag. Three something's actually, Obi-Wan noted. One something was a fancy looking remote.

The other somethings were two lightsabers.

Obi-Wan's eyes widened with surprise, as did Kyrana's – although the girl’s entire demeanour was still tainted with anger. Did Shirai want them to escape? Or was it yet another trap?

Shirai turned back just in time to catch the two surprised looks. "Oh yes," she said sweetly, "I think you'll be needing these. Hmmm… I wonder what exactly you will do with them?" Shirai sighed as she removed the stun cuffs from Obi-Wan and Kyrana and glanced at a chrono on her withered looking arm. "Well, time for me to go. Have fun kids!" And with that Shirai left.

***

Outside the dilapidated office block, Shirai ordered Emado, Tylo and Yev to pick up the equipment needed back at the Jedi Temple. While she waited, she programmed the chips in Obi-Wan and Kyrana's bodies to slowly become dormant, allowing the Force back in slowly but surely. If all went according to plan, there would be two less Jedi in the galaxy very soon and their Masters would be here to witness it all and Shirai would announce her demands. And no one would ever pick up on her intentions. She had had a chip placed inside her that protected her mind from deep mind probes. The chip was a lot like the one all Elmvanian males had to allow them to communicate by projecting their mental voices into others’ heads, only the chip had the reverse affect within Shirai due to some modifications she had made. It wouldn’t allow even the most powerful Jedi into her mind.

When her three henchmen returned, she grabbed the supplies off them and jumped in her speeder.

"I'll meet you back here in three standard hours. You know what to do when you get the signal. I'll call you ahead of time if there will be any changes, understand?" Shirai told them.

The three nodded and then backed away into their own speeder – the one Kyrana had used, or rather been forced to use. They took off shortly before Shirai did because Shirai had just received a call on her comlink.

"Oh hello there Master Daom...Yes, I got the parts...No, I'm not lost...Well, Courscant is a large place and I couldn't help but take a look around...Well I would return but I just saw the two missing Padawans ...Yes, they were with others. I followed them to an old office block...No, I think I'd better return to the Temple and set up the tracker because I could be wrong...I'll be there as soon as I can...Yes, I'll be fine...Okay then let everyone know and make sure they are ready to start working so we can sort this all out rapidly. Shirai out."

Shirai ended the call with a sly grin and powered up the speeder. It was time to put the next stage of her plan into action.

***

When Shirai arrived back at the temple, Frea and Yashan instantly set up the scanner while she told Qui-Gon and Lena of what she had 'seen'.

"It was a group of about three humanoids. They took the boy and girl off the street and into a speeder. I followed them to an old office block somewhere on the lower levels," Shirai explained, looking and sounding sincerely worried.

"Could you take us back there?" Qui-Gon asked.

Shirai nodded and Daom came over to Qui-Gon and spoke to him quietly.

"The tracker is nearly ready in case you're wrong Shirai," Qui-Gon said. "Perhaps you could take Lena and I to where you think you saw Obi-Wan and Kyrana."

"Of course," Shirai said. She took the lead back to the hanger. No one saw the dark grin that flickered across her face and the look in her eyes. Everything was going perfectly according to plan.

***

Kyrana squirmed out of Obi-Wan's grip and jumped up and started heading towards her lightsaber.

"Kyrana stop!" Obi-Wan ordered. "This has to be a trap!"

Kyrana span to face Obi-Wan. “Don't be so pathetic! We have to escape and it has to be now!” Kyrana’s impatience flickered on her face and it was indeed an odd sight to see her looking so annoyed when none of her mounting frustrations could be voiced, only mouthed.

The drug Shirai had given the pair had clearly affected Kyrana. Obi-Wan felt a little different but not to any particular extreme. But then again, he still felt like he was suffering from a bad head cold so he wasn't feeling exactly perfect.

"Kyrana stop it," Obi-Wan said in a calm voice. "The drug is having an effect on you. You have to fight it."

Obi-Wan felt something suddenly burst into life in his mind. It wasn't an unpleasant feeling but he could feel something odd about it. What in the Sith Hells was it?

//I don't have to fight it// Kyrana said, her voice sounding dangerous through the Force. //I have to fight you.//

"What?" Obi-Wan replied, to not only Kyrana but to the sudden re-appearance of the Force. He reached out and embraced the Force, something he hadn't been able to do in a long time. If not for his current situation, who would have let out a sigh and smiled happily. But since when did Kyrana have the ability to speak into Obi-Wan's mind? For such a thing they would have to have some kind of bond... Wait, was that the thing that had appeared in his mind?

Kyrana used the Force to call her lightsaber to her hand. The sound of it igniting snapped Obi-Wan out of his thoughts. "Kyrana stop!"

Kyrana rushed forward and Obi-Wan was forced to call his own lightsaber into his hand and parry Kyrana's light orange lightsaber with his blue 'saber. Kyrana attacked furiously, forcing Obi-Wan into defensive movements. Kyrana was small and agile and her footwork was impeccable and her moves were strong. If Obi-Wan had been at full strength, he probably could have beaten her but as it was he was only just holding his own.

And Kyrana was aided by something far more darker: anger. The drugs flowing through her caused her to lose control over her emotions. Obi-Wan could feel the Darkside gnawing around Kyrana’s mind, tainting her every move and thought.

"Kyrana listen to me," Obi-Wan tried to reach the girl again as he ducked a vicious slash to his head and brought his saber up to block the blow. "You have to stop this! You aren't in control!"

//Shut up Kenobi!// Kyrana roared in a voice far angrier than normal.

Obi-Wan tried something different as he somersaulted over Kyrana's head and launched a rapid attack of slashes and blows, trying to pin her against a wall. //Kyrana think for a moment. We can communicate through a bond. That *means* something, don't you see? You are my friend and I will help you!//

Kyrana blocked Obi-Wan's blade as it swung towards her hands and aimed her blade for Obi-Wan's chest. //Get out of my head!// she screamed.

//Not until you calm down// Obi-Wan replied as he parried Kyrana's blade. //Please Kyrana, you have to try and control yourself.//

//Do or do not there is no try// Kyrana sneered sarcastically.

//Then stop *trying* to kill me Kyrana and we can get out of here!// Obi-Wan retorted.

Kyrana's lightsaber swept towards Obi-Wan's midsection but he twisted out of the way and brought his blade crashing against hers. Realising she was slowly but surely getting closed into a corner, Kyrana span around and ran for the wall. When she reached it, she called on that Force and used it to run up the wall and flip off it and land neatly behind Obi-Wan, pinning him up against a wall.

Panting for breath and doing his best not to start coughing because he knew once he started he may not stop, Obi-Wan continued to parry and throw off as many off Kyrana's attacks as he could but he was weakening and more of her blows were burning his skin. He gathered all the energy he could and called to Qui-Gon.

***

"This is where I saw them," Shirai said as she, Qui-Gon and Lena arrived at the disused office block.

Both Qui-Gon and Lena stretched out with their sense to see if they could feel their Padawan's. Qui-Gon nearly gasped when he got a sudden message from Obi-Wan over their bond, informing him of the dangerous condition Kyrana was currently in. Qui-Gon could sense the boy's fatigue and sent waves of encouragement and strength back.

Lena had clearly sensed her Padawan's change as well. "Let's hurry," she said.

She turned to Shirai just in time to catch a rather sly look on the ambassador's face. Shirai noticed Lena's gaze and her expression changed once again to one of calm. Lena frowned, wondering why such an expression had been on Shirai’s face.

"Stay behind us ambassador," Qui-Gon instructed and then he and Lena took off for the office block.

***

Obi-Wan felt a wave of joy and strength reply but he had no time to relish the fact as Kyrana came at him again. Raising his hand, Obi-Wan Force-shoved the girl away. She went crashing into the ground five meters away. Using the extra strength Qui-Gon had shared with him, Obi-Wan leapt upward, saber held high above his head. As he headed down towards Kyrana, he swung his lightsaber around and aimed to bring it down on Kyrana's head.

/Wait stop!/ his mind screamed. /You shouldn't be trying to kill Kyrana, just disarm her!/

Obi-Wan tried to stop the move but Kyrana was one step ahead of him. Using his own tactics against him, Kyrana Force-shoved Obi-Wan back. He crashed into the wall and sunk to the ground, dazed.

Kyrana approached Obi-Wan with fast, wide strides. //And now it ends Kenobi// she snarled and raised her saber up high.

Obi-Wan watched as the saber came down towards his stomach. Time itself seemed to slow. Kyrana's saber slowly came nearer him, the doors to the room were thrown open and his Master ran in. And then he was aware of nothing but pain. Nothing but absolute agony. He was dimly aware of his Master calling him in the back of his mind but even his Master could not penetrate the suffering Obi-Wan was suddenly thrown into.

/I'm dying.../

And then the darkness overcame him.

***

"NO!!" Qui-Gon's voice obliterated the shocked silence.

Shirai saw exactly what Kyrana did and barely managed to contain a grin of ecstasy. That was one Jedi down. Fiddling with the remote in her pocket, Shirai managed to switch Kyrana's emotions to ones of extreme guilt in an attempt to make the child suicidal. She rushed over to the two young Jedi behind the two Masters to find Kyrana doing something that was clearly very dangerous and deadly.

"Force no," Lena whispered, horrified. "She's sharing all her life energy with him."

Qui-Gon bent down to Obi-Wan and Kyrana and tried to prise Kyrana off Obi-Wan but to no avail. Looking at Lena, she nodded and began to pour strength into her Padawan while Qui-Gon did the same with Obi-Wan. Shirai frowned. This wasn't what she had expected. Shirai backed away and pulled her comlink out of her pocket. Sending a coded message to her three workers, she then turned back to the four Jedi.

"And now Jedi, you die," she snarled. Only Lena turned to face her in confusion. Pulling a stun grenade out of her pack, she threw it at them. Lena managed to knock it off course with the Force while Qui-Gon assisted Obi-Wan and Kyrana but it wasn't enough and the grenade blew up and before long all four Jedi were lying prone on the floor.

When Emado, Tylo and Yev came in, they found Shirai with a smug grin on her face. Turning to them, she demanded a report.

"All the explosives are set ma'am," Emado said.

Shirai nodded and glanced over her shoulder to the group of unconscious Jedi. "This is the beginning of the end for them," she murmured then let out a loud laugh and waited for the imminent arrival of the Jedi team and the other ambassadors.
