	Title: Seperation Summary: Obi-Wan is sent on a dangerous training expedition without his Master that will test him in many ways... Archive: PM me if you want it, please. I own nothing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part one: Distance He stared out the window at the planet vanishing into star-studded space and shivered. Space was cold. Like his heart. Stop it, Obi-Wan. You’re being too dramatic. It’s just a training trip, that’s all. Training trip. Why did he need to go on a some training trip? He shook his head, slightly, pondering this, his Padawan braid gently brushing against his neck and cheek. He reached up absentmindedly, coiling it about his fingers, as he continued to stare out the port window. His eyes, though open, were focused not on the distant specks of light, but on something even more distant, deep within himself. ~~~~~ “Obi-Wan. I have something to tell you.” He looked up. “Yes, Master?” “You know, of course, of the trip the Padawans take in their second year of apprenticeship?” “Of course, Master.” His thoughts were filled with memories from the crèche, the whispers of the adventures that second-year Padawans encountered on this journey. The voyage was one meant to test their skills, to push them to the extreme, and discover their weaknesses. Nonetheless, every young Jedi anticipated the expedition, for it was an important step on the road to Knighthood. “Well, Obi-Wan, this is your second year as my Padawan, and the time has come for you to take the Alkah Unjaow." Alkah Unjaow. The ancient name meaning, literally, “Perilous Voyage”. The boy who was now staring out at the planets disappearing understood sorrowfully that the perils were not only to the body and possibly to the spirit, but to the heart as well. “When, Master?” The young man questioned curiously. “A few days.” Obi-Wan looked mildly surprised. “How long will I be away?” Qui-Gon looked thoughtful “They don’t know for sure, Obi-Wan. It could be a few months to a year.” If Obi-Wan had looked only mildly surprised before, now he looked dismayed. “Master?!” Qui-Gon noted his questioning eyes and sighed. “It all depends, Obi-Wan.” “On what??” “On any number of things, my inquisitive Padawan.” The voice was kind, but it had a tone that warned Obi-Wan to remember his place. “I’m sorry Master… but… a year?!?” “Most likely it will not be as long as that, Obi-Wan, so quit worrying.” “Yes, Master.” And that had been the end of the discussion for that night. Qui-Gon had brought it up the next morning only to tell him of the supplies he would need and the departure time of his transport. Then, the subject was dropped again, until this morning. ~~~~~ Obi-Wan was brought out of his thoughts by a bell signaling the hyperspace jump was approaching. He strapped himself in and took one last look at Courusant before it vanished in the streaking stars of hyperspace. ~~~~~~* To be continued...(hopefully)... -----signature----- I don't want to talk about it! 	Thanks, you guys! The next post will be up soon. This really is a WIP- I don't have anything else written after this. 	Ok- next chapter. The italics mean flasbacks (but you knew that.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The hyperspace jump had been successful, so had everything else, and Obi-Wan was now lying in his bed on a ship full of Jedi Padawans heading who-knew- where. He had inquired on this subject at dinner, and had been told- somewhat reprovingly- by another Padawan that the Masters wanted them to be totally unprepared when they disembarked. Now Obi-Wan couldn’t sleep. It wasn’t just the fact that he was ‘totally unprepared’- some of the missions he and Qui-Gon had handled were that way. He’d been hearing nasty rumors all day, from the ones that whispered of them being fed to a six headed Hydraark, to the ones that told of their training bonds being unexpectedly cut. It was this last one that troubled Obi-Wan most. He was fairly confident about his fighting and Force abilities, but he didn’t know how he could survive if his last link with Qui-Gon was broken. He contemplated this darkly for a while longer, then finally fell into a restless sleep. ~~~~~ “Goodbye, Master.” “Goodbye my Padawan. May the Force be with you.” “You also, Master.” Obi-Wan turned and silently walked up the ramp of the ship, wondering a bit sadly where he was going and how long he would be there. He settled himself by a window as the ship lifted off the landing pad, gazing back down at his Master, the Temple, and the planet as they all grew smaller and smaller in the distance. ~~~~~ Yes, I know it's short. It's gonna take a while, though. _________________________________________________ The voyage was not very long, a two and a half day journey through hyperspace, but Obi-Wan found it almost intolerable. None of his friends were here, being chosen as Padawans either a year later or a year earlier than him. No one was openly friendly to him either. He spent most of his time alone, training or studying. The only time he joined the others was for meals, and there he was either ignored or whispered about. Obi-Wan had his suspicions that some of these boys were allied with Bruck. He had not had any communication with Qui-Gon since the morning of departure, due to the confidentiality of the mission. He was slightly hurt by Qui-Gon’s detached way of seeing him off, but was comforted by the fact that he was allowed to contact his Master when they arrived on the planet. When the ship entered planetary orbit and began preparation for touchdown, Obi-Wan pulled out his datapad and began composing a message to his Master. ~~~~~ Qui-Gon Jinn; Master, We have arrived at our destination. The name of that destination is still classified, however. I have been training as best I can to prepare for this journey. I hope I will do honor to my training and the Jedi Order, and I hope most of all, I will not let you down. May the Force be with you. Your Apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi ~~~~~ The next morning Obi-Wan stood with the eleven other Padawans in a clearing on the Jungle planet Vanhof. They were getting briefed on the planet’s wildlife and terrain. The Master finished explaining about the local plant life, and moved into a lecture about small mammals. Obi-Wan’s mind drifted gently from the small rodents to the transmission he had received from Qui-Gon late last night. ~~~~~ Obi-Wan Kenobi; Padawan – Glad to hear you’ve arrived. I am sure more information will be revealed to you shortly. Don’t push your training too hard, and don’t strain yourself. You must be free of tension for this mission. I believe in you. May the Force be with you, Padawan. -Qui-Gon Jinn ~~~~~ Obi-Wan had mixed feelings on this message. He was grateful and glad Qui-Gon believed in him, but he felt less than enthusiastic about his Master’s warnings. I can take care of myself… can’t I? He pushed this thought away, he Knew Qui-Gon was just trying to help him, but- He shook his head, and realizing the lecture had ended, followed the other Padawans to pitch his tent. ~~~~~ -----signature----- I don't want to talk about it!
