Title: The Mandalorian Wars: United Onderon: We Stand to the Last Man Part I
Author: Darth_Quellonis
Timeframe: 7 years before KOTOR
Characters: Revan, Malak, Vaklu, Tobin, The Exile,
Genre: action/war
Summary:
“This city, is now under our control, and if you don’t like it.... well the Mandalorian chief is personally going to ground your entire escapade to a stop. So move away civilian, I’m warning you,” the rough looking woman shouted, her hair tied into odd braids. Mandalorians, we don’t need this scum, he thought to himself.
“I think you overstep your power, Sergeant Tobin, alert the guards!” Vaklu swung out a heavy repeater in no time, he was unhappy with the disgusting ‘Mandalorian’ politics,
“and try not to hit the civilians, it causes a mess of paperwork!”
Soon the Onderonian city plaza turned to day in the light of the blaster fire, civilians took up arms from what seemed like the ground, completely ambushing the petrified soldier. This daily routine of killing and then rinsing their weapons had become a stalemate, the Mandalorians wouldn’t surrender their weapons, or their land. Vaklu cursed as he thought about how he was going to ambush the Mandalorians sure to be rushing towards his little party of soldiers.
“Lovely men, the whole damn Mandalorian fleet must be in this sector,” Vaklu said as he shot the last soldier of the patrol, “But freedom does not come at such a small cost as we think, these soldiers are butchers, they fight with their bare hands, when they are without blaster weapons, they are even more vicious. Not even the damn Bomas are this bad!” he coughed as he shook his head in disgust. The city was in complete ruins, Revan was going to pound him for this mistake...
“Captain, what are we going to do now?” asked a dumbfounded soldier, who was scraping the excess carbon scoring on his repeater.
“What do you think we do now? Sit and wait for those Mandalorians!? We kill ‘em all!” Vaklu screamed as he pointed his weapon at the incoming wave of Mandalorian Commandos, clad in battle armor.
"I can see nothing, Jeilk, if we can't see the fighting, they most likely can't see it from orbit. We can't send a signal for bombardment, it would be positioning the fleet out of the position, it would allow the Mandalorians to..." the Jedi's face was confident looking as he scanned vigilant against any threat, to stand the ground against his hated enemies.
"Relax, I have studied those Mandies before, they aren't so good to think that they shouldn't attack when they see an opening. If we move the fleet, then they will send everything they have to disrupt that, and they will be crush, decimated by the heavy guns, like they did to us, at the Battle of Irochar," the historians face grew strained with concentration, as he surveyed the situation.
"Wait, I think I can make out something, signals..." he leaned closer to the scanning machine they had set up next to their star fighters.
The Jedi seemed skeptical, "No, I think it's just your mind, you tend to forget that the Mandalorians don't rely on technology when they know they are being watched," he finished, then turned again to look at the lush mountains.
The historian nodded, "If that were so, why did they... attack us earlier?" the question seemed like a blank statement to the Jedi's ears, just like everything else this man said.
"Because we were, approximately 20 parsecs away from them, and they knew... we were weak, they reversed their tactics, they watched us for hours, but we didn't realize it until it was too late. We crashed on this moon, you were knocked out, bleeding severely, hence the wound. I tried to stop the bleeding with a piece of my robe, but the knot wasn't tight enough, so I then tried to seal the wound with fire and chemicals from my med kit. You were very fortunate I had some medical supplies, if you hadn't received that blood, I don't think you would have made it," the Jedi took a breath as the historian tried to get a grasp of the situation.
"Your right about this, but are we safe, they could be stalking us," the historian replied.
"They could be near..." the Jedi jokingly acknowledged.
In the distance, indeed they watched, the watched the two men like how their clan, on the harsh world of Ordo, trained and hunted for the greatest Mandalorian Crusade ever attempted. For the beginning of this war they had been charge, until things turned against them on the Onderon invasion, heavy resistance sprouted about the planet, ambushing Mandalorian patrols all over. Huge craters had been formed with each turbolaser barrage. This was the end point, beginning of the end. Canderous could feel the pulse among his eager warriors, both veterans and new recruits, but it was suicide to attempt such a breakthrough, the Republic had massed resources continuously putting Dxun under siege, a stalemate, neither the Republic or the clans of Mandalore could advance. When one soldier stepped out of line they would be blasted into the air by laser fire and mines.

No comments? Why do you people always seem to read the great well known writers all the time, when you don't just try to read the relatively new Fan Fic writer's piece?

Keep writing and they will come! I promise! We've all started out with just a reader or two.
Okay, this is a great start! I've recently gotten very interested in the Mando culture, so I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Please PM when you update!
Nice work!

DarthQuellonis,
I am not a regular visitor to the Before section, and I saw you inital post as a short, interesting diversion, but I have to admit I know nothing of the Mandalorians or this era.
Where can I get a short compact primer on the Mandalorians? It would help me enjoy your fic more.
Edit: I found some info on Wiki. I'll be back with a better review tomorrow.

is correct. You've also written an era that is still just beginning to gain in popularity. Don't give up.

Thanks for the comments, I hope you all keep reading.
The relatively young warrior, Canderous Ordo, stood by the Mandalorian commander's side. "Commander, I brought my squad to the observation point, I have located the crashed fighter pilots. Should I proceed to send a patrol out?" Canderous' voice was filled with angst even through the filtered voice mechanism built into the Mandalorian battle armor. He wanted to attack them, he wanted to pursue and show he was really capable of fighting like a true Mandalorian. The commander had sensed he was untested and impatient to engage in combat so soon.
"Son, the one thing you have to remember is that those Republic people are surrounding us in this area, if we suddenly attack out of no where, those two pilots will send the coordinates to Republic command...they-" the leader was abruptly interrupted by Canderous.
"They don't have any communication with Republic command, the sensors didn't pick up any signs of transmission equipment," he paused, revealing a datapad with a sensor program running, "See, they are all alone, we must have knocked out their communication devices on their star fighters when we took it down with that rocket."
"Mandalorians don't live for death, they live to fight on. You will listen to my orders to stay put Sergeant. It won't be long... it only will take time."
"Yeah, and by that time the whole Republic army will have come looking for these two men to stay ready against any advance with military exercises. I don't think we can spare that time, we take this pass, and we have control."
"You... have some brash ideas, now step aside and let our men work," the commander sighed as he turned to survey the rocky canyon. Canderous turned and felt a cold-blooded anger in his heart, he needed to assault that position, whether it be with his superior's approval or not.
"How is that fire coming, it's getting dark, and we need heat," the Jedi stated with an urgency in his voice.
"Just fine, Deplek, why don't you try to help me, that's half the reason why we are here," Jeilk said with a slight tone of disappointment.
"I guess... that's not what I was trained for. Jedi never really get into that aspect much."
"Well, you must have passed the trials because of your brutality, not of your survival skills then, typically I recall the Jedi having learned many things about survival. Any how, why did you wish to follow him? Why do you still try to propel yourself into a conflict, the Jedi Council, doesn't even support?" the Historian brought about an interesting and personal subject of Deplek's past, as he stared into the darkening land.
"Because I wanted purpose, because I disliked their ways of holding my hand. I wanted to be different," Deplek took on a half-hearted effort to calm himself
but the anger crept through his barriers. "Coruscant never was my home, nor were they my guides to wisdom. They don't know wisdom, they only preach it. f they heard my voice they would shun me from their Temple in discuss, they would curse at what I have done. But this isn't the point, they are fools, and they never will change, unless someone would show one them their weakness."
There was a dark silence between the two men as they went separate ways, with Deplek storming off.

RE: The Mandalorian Wars: United Onderon: We Stand to the Last Man: Part I (A new saga)
The great Jedi Knights, Revan and Malak stood, unopposed as they looked about the chamber. The magnificent sky drop of Coruscant evident. Revan calmly motioned for silence as the two were about to make an important speech to their avid friends and supporters. Then came the silence, the respect. "As you may know, Revan considers these invaders, a very... great threat. And today, he plans to accelerate the Jedi Order's support of the Republic's current war effort. Now, listen, and ponder the great one's words," Malak spoke with a raspy tone as he explained to the audience of several hundred Jedi Knights.
Revan stood, he waited until not a sound was heard, dead silence. "My friends, the Republic has been attacked, it has been divided on all fronts, at Dxun, at Onderon. I want to extend their current war effort with the help of my comrades. I need all of your help, to lead their men into battle, against Mandalore the Ultimate's armies. More importantly, I want to find our fellow comrades in the field, such as the gracious swordsmen, you may know as Deplek," Revan suddenly stopped speaking, leaving the audience to think.
"That is all, but make your decision carefully, for the fate of the Republic depends upon it," he turned and walked down a long hallway to the hanger, leaving Malak alone.
Malak turned his head, leaning to view Revan as he walked away. "Then that decides it fellow Jedi. We will deploy with what few Jedi we have by the end of today, in six hours. If anyone wants to join us, follow Revan, to war, to end the domination of the people of this honest galaxy! To assist the noble citizens of Onderon!" Malak turned and followed his comrade down the hallway. Many more followed in the coming hours, many never to grace the halls of the Temple again, intent on war.
Vaklu stood at the ridge of the palace defenses, in the distance he heard blaster fire, the Mandalorians were coming, the Republic military had been too weak, too weak! Vaklu cursed at the thought. Then came the holograms, of other commanders. He couldn't change the outcome, he couldn't destroy them all. He could only hope, the Republic would counter-attack against these brutes.
Vaklu continued to watch, disgusted. "Soldiers, we can't win, retreat. They outnumber us 2 to 1. Load the shuttles up and prepare for Rendezvous with the nearest Republic outpost," Vaklu waved his hand in the air, as if to rally the remaining troopers which hadn't fled onto the awaiting shuttles.
Tobin stood next to Vaklu, as he frantically yelled, removed from his awareness of danger, Tobin gradually had the remaining troopers withdraw, with a division of heavy troopers covering their retreat. "Men, continue firing, don't retreat until they start to overwhelm your unit." The battle turned fierce as the Onderanians refused to lay down their arms and run away, The Mandalorians tried to charge up the ridge, but were defeated by heavy bursts of blaster fire, from the troopers. The blood bath continued until the heavy troopers ran for cover... retreating. The shuttles lifted off finishing the battle, Deplek and Jeilk had not made it in time thought, to the rendezvous point, leaving them in a planet mostly unknown to them, held by the invaders.
The Mandalorians were still being attacked by guerillas, who were fleeing the city of Iziz for safer ground. Perhaps the fiercest fighting was the near the palace, where remaining artillery positions shattered buildings, eliminating cover for Mandalorian attackers. Deplek slashed at Mandalorian troopers in every direction, it was as if they were invincible. Nothing could stop their advance, for every soldier slain, another came into their proper places. As the sun went down, the city quickly quieted down, a lull in fighting due to the sheer number of soldiers which were hiding in the mountains surrounding the city, unaware of their presence,
the enemy strode down avenues and city plazas on patrol, without the slightest bit of attention, towards snipers. Soon, the Mandalorians would feel the guerilla's plans, in coordination with a plot to overthrow the invasion, soon.

RE: The Mandalorian Wars: United Onderon: We Stand to the Last Man: Part I (A new saga)
"Well, that was a hell of fight. Those Mandies wouldn't give up Deplek, you fought well, never seen a Jedi in my life fight like that, however, I've never seen a Jedi fight for that matter," Jeilk said as the two warriors walked through the ruined neighborhoods, which used to be the buzzling spaceport Iziz.
"It is, what it is. But if you say a Jedi is the best fighter in the galaxy however, you may be tricking yourself, you may even be too naive, to even call yourself a historian, my friend. Consider this... one who powerful will always be overun in some aspect. The Taung, the descendents of the Mandalorians, at one time were rivals of another group of warriors, called the Zhell, on Coruscant. The Zhell were the more dominant ones, but didn't recognize the fact that the Taung had the capability, to overcome their glorious empire, which spanned much of Coruscant. The Taung actions went unknown until... it was too late. The Zhell were beaten in a wide confrontation, the new victor almost always grows naive, into thinking they could never be defeated, so much....that they grow blind," Deplek took a quick breath before finishing speaking.
"Blinded they were... years later the Taung were conquered and exiled to the planet of Mandalore, there... they regained control and become what we call Mandalorians. Funny-how history tends to repeat itself, such as in war."
"I have not heard of such a story, Master Jedi. Interesting indeed," Jeilk seemed to ponder what had been said.
The two men continued to walk through the rubble and smoke from the smoldering debris. Two Republic crusaders in the Mandalorian's eye that watched them through a scope. Canderous patiently aimed, sweat and dehydration making him loosen his grip on the handle of the blaster rifle. "Come on.... a little closer, then I can nail... you... right now. Yeah," Canderous opened fire two rounds of deadly fire right through Jeilk, injuring the poor historian badly, it looked as he fell to the ground but still gasped for air.
Deplek was close to the breaking point, all evening they had gone unnoticed through the city, until now, they were in danger. His Jedi reflexes aided his reaction, quickly he picked up the historian and tucked him behind a broken wall. He unfastened his medical kit from his utility belt, observing the severity of the damage as he did so. It appeared as if he had been shot two times in the chest, near the shoulder, barely missing his heart. If the sharpshooter had been aiming with his scope an inch lower, it would have killed the Historian instantly. As the Jedi applied emergency bacta to the wound, he heard a skirmish to the west, about one block away, judging on the echos. Cautiously he unraveled a roll of Republic military grade Bacta tap, used to keep wound clean from bacteria and other germs. Quietly as he could, the Jedi pressed the sticky side of the bandage against the man's injury, setting up the adhesive strip to dry and create a makeshift wall to combat infections.

"Your going to be alright Jeilk, just relax, and try to focus on the stars in the sky," Jeilk heard Deplek's voice drift away as he fell into a deep sleep. Deplek was nervous, he tried to comfort himself, he kept saying in his mind, everything will be alright, the Republic will come and kick these Mandalorians back to where they came from, he wasn't completely sure now though. Hours have passed and the signs had only grown worse. The laser fire lessened, the Onderon army had retreated, the Mandalorians had shot Jeilk. Their only hope was to bypass any patrols in the area and try to head directly to the dark hills out of the city, where the guerilla fighters still peered through their scopes, where they would be safe.
"Just wait Jeilk, take your time sleeping, because... I don't think you'll like what's going to happen next," Deplek had a hopeless tone in his voice as he carried the wounded Jeilk along the pathway which was strewn with rocks and rubble. It was an almost impossible journey for the normal man, for the weak and timid civilians, but he wasn't a normal person, he was Deplek, a reputable swordsmen, veteran of many military campaigns, against Exar Kun's rogue followers years ago. He had dreamt of Kun, he said to him that a dark one will arise. Another Dark Lord, but whom? The Order was more than capable of taking down the Mandalorians in battle, but were the emotional sacrifices too large?
