"It will be good practice," the Master reasoned.
"Practice for what?" Yoda harrumphed. "A Jedi am I, not a child-minder."
All of these arguments seemed to be in the same vein. Yoda had always been eager to prove himself, perhaps too eager at times since he tended to intimidate every other Jedi in anything other than a beauty contest. As a result, he had attempted to veto some of the more menial labors with the rationale that they were unbecoming a Jedi.
One would have thought that eight hundred years as a Jedi would have proved him wrong, but he was a stubborn little one.
"Practice for your next Padawan," Master Dema explained. "You do not understand children very well and each of your Padawans has needed therapy from the moment their braid was finished."
"Discipline I endorse," Yoda protested, "and on the Council many of my Padawans have been."
But Master Dema was already walking away.
"The name, what is it?"
"Mace Windu," Dema called cheerfully. "You'll have no problem at all."

No problem had said Master Dema. Lied she had.
Badly behaved Mace Windu was not, but smile he did not.
"A funny little youngling who is?" Yoda teased, tickling him.
Stop staring at him the little boy would not! Four years old he was. This serious he should not be.
"Smile at anything do you?"
Stared at him he still did. Strange this was.
"Talk do you?"
Nod at him Mace did.
"Believe you I do not."
Back to staring he was.
"Take a walk would you like to?"
Another nod.
Get to their feet they did and wander into the Temple. Many wonderful things there were to see and perhaps like the gardens the boy would.
"Your friend I wish to be," said Yoda gravely, "but like boys who talk to me I do."
"I'll talk to you," offered Mace timidly.
"Aha, talk you do," Yoda smirked. "Laugh do you?"
"No."
Expected this he had not. "Why?"
"Because the Force isn't funny."
"No," Yoda agreed, "but give us comfort in friends and laughter it can."
Seemed to think very hard for a four-year-old Mace did. "Really?"
Turned to him to explain Yoda did, but trip over his walking stick he did. Bad this would have been, but worse it was because at the top of the stairs they were. Look like a gymnast Yoda did until land at the bottom he did.
Hurt to much too laugh it did, but laughing someone was. Mace it was.
"You're funny," said he. "Can I be your friend?"

RK_Striker_JK_5--Yes, chibi-Mace is rather absurdly hilarious to me. Yoda's Padawans needing therapy is based on my trainer, hermana olsen, who was like yoda, without the fun side.

*ahem* trip down the stairs was completely intentional. 
Loved the Yoda talk throughout the story.
