Title:
Facing the Darkness
Author:
Mystery_Jedi90
Timeframe:
A week after the end of KotOR II.
Disclaimer:
I don't own these characters, George Lucas does.
Author's Note:
This is a story some time after the Jedi Exile defeated the three Sith Lords and went to search for Revan in the Unknown Regions.
Yuthura Ban, survivor of the First Jedi Purge and former Sith Lord is the main character in this story when she joins Revan and the Exile in their battle against the Ancient Sith Empire.
Chapter One
Memories
The Cantina was as usual teeming with people.
Locals, merchants, smugglers and scums were all enjoying their drinks while listening to the playing Bith band.
In fact, nobody noticed the dark-robed Twi'lek figure in one of the corners, but if they did they probably wouldn't even care.
The face was covered by an hood that only showed the lower part of the face and made identification impossible.
However, even if it was unlikely that anyone would recognise her, Yuthura Ban didn't want to take any unnecessary risks.
She slipped her drink fast down her throat and began to listen.
The Cantina was a great source of information, the spacers were often discussing the recent events happening in the Republic and some were quite interesting.
The current headlines this time was the most recent space battle that had happened above Telos.
"Rumours says that the Sith attacked Telos" a spacer sitting a few tables from Yuthura spoke.
Thanks to the Force, Yutura was able to hear everyting that seemed interesting.
"But how? Weren't they destroyed in the War?!"
"That was what everyone thought, but it seems that a few had escaped the Republic."
"Wasn't there a rumour that the Battle was thwarted by a Jedi?"
"Several Jedi, according to my sources."
"But aren't the Jedi extinct?"
"I thought so, but it seems that we were wrong in both cases."
"Well, good riddance I say"
"Sure, let me buy you another drink."
Yuthura leaned back in her chair and took a deep breath.
A space battle above Telos?
She had felt a disturbance in the Force but she hadn't managed to pinpoint were it had come from before it had been gone.
She continued her eavesdropping.
"Haven't anybody heard about that Jedi Knight that disappeared five years ago?"
At that sentence, Yuthura nearly jumped out of her seat.
She tried to listen closer but suddenly a brawl started to form around the Pazaak tables and the conversion quickly stopped.
It seemed that a Trandoshan and a Rodian were fighting over a business deal.
"You haven't give me half of what you offered, this isn't enough!" The Rodian spoke.
"All your money is in there, worm. Take it or leave it" The Trandoshan hissed menacing.
"No, we had a deal. 500 credits for the job and now you are only offering me 300?!
Show me the rest."
"Don't you know what happens to those who mess with Karrsk the Trandoshan?"
The Trandoshan were moving his hand to his blaster.
"I don't care, I just want my money" the Rodian stated, not seeing the coming danger.
Yuthura saw that this would only end in violence and decided that it was time for a little "Jedi interference".
"You, Trandoshan, perhaps you would give him his money." Yuthura spoke as she moved towards the trouble.
Karrsk turned to the towards Yuthura holding his blaster.
"Who are you and who are you to tell me what to do?" Karrsk hissed.
"Who I am is not important, the important thing is that you refuse to give him the money you have promised."
"I haven't promise him anything, he could take the 300 credits and be off." Karrsk spat out.
"You Rodian, what exactly did he promise you?" Yuthura turned to the stunned Rodian.
"He...He promised me that I would be paid 500 credits if I did a job for him and when I returned here to recieve them, he refused to accept that he had offered me 500 credits instead of 300."
Stretching out with the Force, Yuthura brushed the Rodian's mind, seeking after hints of lie.
She found nothing.
"You want to pay the Rodian the amount you have offered him." Yuthura spoke, wawing here and as little as possible.
"I want to pay him the amount I promised him." Karrsk responded.
"You will then leave this Cantina in peace." Yuthura continued.
"Alright, worm, take your money." The Trandoshan then tossed a couple of chips on the table and turned around and out of the entrance, swearing some Trandoshans curses at the incoming quests.
"Thank you ma'am for helping me out there, Krassk can be very hostile sometime." the Rodian spoke with relief.
"Glad to be of help" Yuthura responded short before returning her table.
She felt the eyes following her as she sat down again.
When she pulled up the hood again to scan the area, she noticed that the couple who had been discussing that missing Jedi Knight had disappeared.
Disappointed, she lower the hood again.
And began to slip back into memories...
Five years earlier...
Perhaps it was fate that brought him there, Yuthura wasn't sure.
But whatever reason, she was thankful that he had comed.
Back then, when she was still a Sith Lord and had laid eyes on him on Korriban, she had thought he had been another ordinary human with a powerful connection to the Force.
But in some way she had felt something strange about him, a thing she couldn't point her finger at.
He becamed even more strange when he began to question her about the Sith:
"Why would someone want to become a Sith?" he had asked her out of sudden.
Yuthura had felt both anger and a little admiration of the sudden boldness of the youth.
Even so in the Academy when he had wanted to know more about her past, Yuthura was certain that this student were different than the other Sith.
However, she felt something that wanted her to open herself up to him and told him everything, about herself as slave to Omessh the Hutt, her escape aboard a cargo ship and being discovered by the Jedi who took her to training on Dantooine.
When she had told him everything, she felt a warm feeling in her chest which she didn't know what it was at the time, perhaps she finally had a person who understood her.
A friend.
Later in Naga Sadow's tomb, Yuthura knew that she would be forced to kill the young male when Uthar was dead.
So was the way of the Sith, you never share your power.
It was her law, but then why did she had such a terrible ache in her heart?
She would have been suprised, but in reality she wasn't when Uthar revealed that the young male was to fight Yuthura herself to pass his final test.
She had then during a quick second felt a tremendeous anger of Uthar's betrayal and had for a quick second feared that the young male would betray her as well.
But the young male calmed her fear with the words:
"Sorry Master Uthar. I'm with Yuthura on this one."
They had then together defeated the Sith Master, with Yuthura attacking from the back and the young male from the front, Uthar had little chance of surviving.
When Uthar was dead, Yuthura was forced to do the thing she feared.
Fight her friend.
The battle was suprisingly short, perhaps her doubt played a factor, and her lightsaber was destroyed.
It was then she saw that she was no longer a Sith, when she took the male as her friend, she had thrown off her mantle as Sith Lord.
"Stop...st-op...I yield"
She had hoped with her entire heart that he hadn't becomed her friend just so he could use her.
When he lowered his lightsaber, she felt a happiness she hadn't felt in many years.
The happiness of being alived.
When he suggested that she could returned to the Jedi, she felt some part of her saying that she should return, but she though of all the terrible deeds she had committed and didn't think she could ever see the Jedi in the face again.
But finally she had agreed to at least speak to them again.
Back to the present...
Yuthura was quickly waken from her thoughts as the Bartender spoke to her:
"You better leave. A sandstrom is coming in and my Cantina isn't a shelter."
"Thanks" Yuthura quickly arose from her chair and tossed the Bartender a few chips.
Outside the people had begun to move back to their homes and spacers back to their ships and barracks.
She saw as the twin suns on Tatooine began to disappeared behind a big cloud of sand and rushed towards her house in the Slave Quarters.
She had barely closed the door before a big sandcloud sweept the streets clean of any latecomers.
With a sign she sealed the door.
So how do you like the first page of my first story?
I really liked the Yuthura character in KotOR and though that she deserved a bigger role.
I hope that you will enjoy the story.

I don't really know a lot about the game honestly, but given that you like character it is great that you have done something with her.
There are many that know KOTOR well here though, and I think they will know this character so hang on and write more :-)
She seems bright, intelligent, and right now, I think just waiting for the right time to show her potential, hiding behind a cloak and a life in the slave quarters on Tatooine, thus staying a bit shadowed here in you story.
I imagine she is going to be quite amazing when you are done.
This should be a good adventure!

Thanks for the reply's you two, I really appreciate it!
Here's the second chapter, enjoy!
Chapter Two
Ambush in the Evening
While the sandstorm rushed through the streets, Yuthura begin to make herself something to eat.
The twin suns of Tatooine would probably set until the sandstorm had passed on so Yuthura was planning to make herself comfortable until her meditation.
Her house had only three rooms, one bedroom, one bathroom and one kitchen.
It was tight, but Yuthura had lived worse and she lived a lot better than the other slaves.
She had arrived at Tatooine a few weeks ago as mysterious murders had began to happen all across the galaxy.
The victims had been either Jedi or former Jedi and Yuthura knew that she would be the next victim.
She had quickly hitched a ride on a ship bound for Tatooine as she thought that the assassins wouldn't find her in such a place alongside the galaxy's most vile scums and thugs and certainly not among the slaves of Tatooine.
Yuthura had chosen the house in the Slave Quarters for two things: It was small and barely unrecognizable among the outher houses.
However, she hadn't know that these assassins relied on the Force to track down the Jedi, otherwise she would have taken more precautions towards them.
It had been a evening after she had resupplied her store of food when she suddely felt a disturbance in the Force.
She quickly looked around but saw nothing, just the walls of the houses surrounded her.
She began to move again when she suddenly felt an warning through the Force.
Yuthura quickly ducked as a vibroblade swept the area where her head had been and
turning around, she saw five shadows detach themselves from the walls.
They seemed to wear black leather, covering their torsos and legs and a mask, rendering facial expressions impossible to read.
However, using the Force, Yuthura felt only one emotion from the assassins: "Kill the Jedi!"
Yuthura quickly pulled out her lightsaber underneath her robe and ignited the shimmering blue blade and moved into a defensive stance.
The assassins began to move around Yuthura so that she would be force to strike in all directions, thus opening an area to attack.
Yuthura noticed that two of them was wearing force pikes, a weapon combined with a vibroblade edge which made them unbreakable by lightsabers, the others two carried vibroblades.
But the last assassin, presumable the leader, carried a red lightsaber.
Seeing the coming danger, Yuthura unleashed a powerful Force Wave to somehow lessen the odds.
The Wave worked as three of the assassins were pushed into the wall and perhaps rendered unconscious as they didn't rise again, but the other two( the leader and a force pike wielder) managed to hold of the attack.
The first assassin rushed forward to stop the Twi'lek from issuing another attack, but he was caught in a Force Stasis attack by Yuthura.
Yuthura then quickly moved to and stabbed the assassin in the torso, killing him instantly.
The leader then moved forward and swept his lightsaber toward Yuthura's head, but Yuthura foresaw the attack and blocked with her lightsaber.
She then use the stop to her advantage and swept the lightsaber in a arc, aiming at the leader's waist.
The leader, however swept his lightsaber and with ease, blocked Yuthura's attack and struck the lightsaber upwards trying to cut her face in half.
Yuthura countered this by jumping slight backwards while performing a backflip landing a few meters from the leader.
At this moment, Yuthura finally got the chance to think.
The leader was a good swordsman, that's for sure, but Yuthura knew that in a long run, she would easily win.
But she felt that soon the other three assassins would awaken from their slam in the wall and then she would again be at a disadvantage.
This battle must be ended quickly and the quickest way was by suprise.
The assassins thought they would be attacking a mere Jedi, but what they didn't know was that Yuthura had been a former Sith Lord, strong in the dark side of the Force.
Her strenght there had diminished over the past five years, but she knew that this wouldn't be expected by the assassins.
The leader was now throwing himself towards Yuthura and she knew she only had one chance.
Using the Force, Yuthura unleashed an barrage of Force Lighting dircetly into the leader's chest, sending him back and tumbling on the ground.
Rushing forward, Yuthura throwed her lightsaber directly into the leader's waist, severing him in half.
Just in time as the lightsaber returned to her hand, the other three assassins attacked her.
Still being three to one, Yuthura knew that she was to remove the odds if she would have any chance at survival.
Yuthura could easily fry them with Force Lighting if she wanted to as they didn't seem to have much in Force resistance but if she would use the Dark Side to much, she could just as easily fall back into an all to familiar path and that was something Yuthura never wanted to experience again.
As the three assassins swung their blades at her( two wearing vibroblades, one wearing a force pike) Yuthura raised her lightsaber and at the same time raised her hand.
A immense light suddenly glowed from Yuthura's hand, vanishing all the shadows around the houses.
The assassins were caught completely off guard, Yuthura had counted that they weren't so much trained in Force Sense which was the basic of the Jedi training.
Taking advantage of the sudden blindness of her attacker, Yuthura quickly finished them of one by one, the force pike wielder, through the heart, the other two through the torso.
Yuthura had since that day feared another ambush, but no one came and now the Sith had been defeated at Telos.
Perhaps the galaxy finally were at peace.
Yuthura took her meal and removed the robe she had worn all day.
At first glance, Yuthura seemed like a ordinary Twi'lek with a purple tone to her skin, which was exactly what Yuthura wanted.
Prior to her redemption, Yuthura had worn Sith tattoos across her face and her eyes had had a pale tone to it.
Now, all that were gone and her face was returning to normal, her eyes were once again deep purple and she no longer saw Jedi as weak and inferior.
Her body was well trained, both the Sith and the Jedi had been hard on training and she wore standard Twi'lek garments as her daily garments( See Aayla Secura) and ha lightsaber hung from her waist.
The sandstorm were still rushing outside and Yuthura signed.
It was probably time to go to meditation.
As she situated herself on the floor in her bedroom, her mind began to join the currents of the Force and she fell back into memories...
How did you like the action sequence?
Was it good?
Thanks for reading!

Hello again, I'm sorry I couldn't update yesterday, but I had a visit.
So here's the update I promised you. With hopfully more details.
Chapter Three
Return of a Jedi
Five years earlier...
After she had emerged from the dark grave of Marko Ragnos into the desert sun of Korriban, Yuthura knew that this place were no longer the place where she belonged.
Perhaps it never had. The desert were nothing more than a source of the Dark Side. The same force that had made her forget her heart and soul.
As she moved towards the great arch of stone that showed the way to the Academy, Yuthura felt a string of mixed emotions.
Turning around, she looked back upon the valley. The four tombs towering the sides of the valley, each one of them holding a rotten body of a Sith Lord, bent over the valley as watching it. Once she had admired these Lords of their strength and power and she had worked hard to be like them.
Back then she had felt excited at the thought but now she felt only bitterness.
Yuthura shivered. How could she had fallen so far?
Continued below the great arc of stone, she made to the mysterious dark cave that went into the mountain's right side.
A cold wind where blowing from it, a mystic wind of darkness and death. Yuthura had often passed it on her way to the valley and not really bothered with it, but now she felt the dark Side in the cave, touching everyone that passed it.
She quickly moved away from the cave and stepped forward on the rocky road, turning into a "u" before she was in sight of the Academy.
In front of the closed doors stood three gray-uniformed Sith Students, each of them carrying a lightsaber in their hands. Yuthura was still wounded from the last lightsaber duel to take them on three-to-one, but the Students had no idea what had happened in the tomb so perhaps she could walk right in?
"Master Yuthura, Are you hurt?" the male of the three Students asked.
"None of your concern, or did you not learn that you shouldn't mess in a Sith Lord's business?" Yuthura answered as she clutched her side.
"Yes, of course Master Yuthura, please forgive my ignorant question."
"You are forgiven...this time, now that you must only show trust when it can be of benefit to you. This makes you strong and your opponets weaker. Remember that! Now open the gate!"
"Of course, Master Yuthura. Right away."
The male Student almost stumbled when he moved towards the little lever on the right side of the door and with a look of nervousity on his face, pulled the lever down and the door opened.
Yuthura proceed inside and braced herself. She had to get through the Academy without waking any suspicions, which wouldn't be to difficult considering her status as an Sith Lord, as many students knew the consequenses of a Sith Lord's temper.
The plan was to get through the Academy and get to the Czerka colony of Dreshdae where her personal ship, the
Vengeance
, was stored. By the Force, she really needed to change that name.
She proceeded downwards the first hall of the Academy, this hall contained the training and many Sith trained here under the Academy's teachers. Yuthura herself had trained a few during her time on Korriban.
As she walked to the center hall, which acted as a crossroad in the center of the Academy,
She noticed that many of the Students and the teachers didn't even look her way.
Good, this would go smoothly.
She reached the exit of the Academy without no trouble and began to procceed upwards the ramp to the colony when the Force told her that the young Jedi had arrived back from the Tomb.
Yuthura knew that the Sith Students and the teachers stood no chance against the young Jedi after all, it was he who had defeated both Master Uthar and herself.
She was glad that he had let Yuthura cross the Academy before and into Dreshdae before he tore up the mynock's nest.
Using the confusion of the Academy and the colony( many Sith in the colony had rushed towards the Academy and many citizen had streamed to the windows),Yuthura reached her landing pad where her ship stood.
Her ship was based on the blueprint of the Sith Fighter but the ship had been outfitted with an hyperdrive and a shield generator for personal flights. It also had two more wings attached to the ship, along with two more laser cannons, creating a square line of firing.
Yuthura had also outfitted it with a fifth laser below the cockpit, giving it a maximum firepower of total five lasers.
But because of the extra weight, the ship was approximaly three times more slow than a standard Sith Fighter, but Yuthura knew that the speed was irrelevant as she had the Force on her side.
Yuhtura quickly jumped into the cockpit and began to power up the engines. The Force told her that the young Jedi were creating quite a ruckus at the Academy, she felt many die as their souls joined the Force. The young Jedi were indeed a powerful being.
As her engines powered up, Yuthura recevied clearance from the dock officer and began her ascent towards the coldness of space.
When she reached orbit, a sudden revelation truck her. She didn't know where the Jedi were.
Here she was, a traitor turning her back on her students, caught in the emptiness of space and she didn't know where to go.
She started to count the possible locations when a voice spoke to her: "Go to Dantooine"
It was the young Jedi, speaking to her from the Force.
She quickly tapped in the coordinates to the planet of Dantooine and a few seconds later, the stars turned to stripes and off she was.
The journey to Dantooine took only a few hours but Yuthura wished it had been longer.
As she approched the beautiful grass-planet, a thousands thought run through her mind.
How were they going to react to her? Was they going to forgive her? Would they banish her?
Would they even attack her?!
The thoughts rushed through her mind like there was no stop and she felt very uneasy as she passed through the atmosphere( not of the atmosphere) and she finally saw the so called Jedi Academy.
It was dome-shaped with two long buildings spraying out the doom on the left and right side, before it was a small courtyard.
Yuthura decided to land somewhere out of range of the Enclave, she didn't feel like looking on the Jedi who she had betrayed as soon as she landed.
The landing was smooth and soon Yuthura felt the grass beneath her shoes. She still wore her Sith Uniform and her face was all covered in Sith tatoos, as she didn't have much time changing and the tatoos couldn't go away with proper surgery, but she wanted the Jedi to see what she had turned away from.
Feeling a tingle in her stomach, Yuthura began her walk towards the dome-shaped structure.
As she passed a few meadows, she noticed how peaceful it was on Dantooine, the sun shone calmly on the golden fields as Yuthura felt the warmth of the Light Side embrace her.
When she swung around the last cliff, she found herself positioned directly in front of the Enclave and in the courtyard stood...
"Yuthura!" The older Jedi began to run towards Yuthura.
Yuthura didn't have time to brace herself before she was caught in the man's arms.
"Oh, Yuthura, my former apprentice, you are here again. Oh Yuthura." the elder man cried against her shoulder.
Now Yuthura recognized the man, it was her former Master, Tarn Hayan.
Unable to control herself, Yuthura surrendered and burrowed herself in the man's arms.
"Yuthura, it's so good to see you here again. I thought I had lost you."
"Oh Master, please forgive me." Yuthura cried.
"But returning back here, you have rewarded me more than you could possible think of."
"Master, I'm so sorry for all the things I said, calling you and the Council all these bad things."
Both Yuthura and Tarn stood there for several minutes, just hugging each others until Yuthura finally brought the fine moment.
"Master, the reason I came here was to speak with the Jedi Council, hoping they take me back. I have done such horrible things and I regret so much." Yuthura spoke with tearful eyes.
"You, coming back here has already convinced us." A sudden voice spoke up.
Turning around, Yuthura noticed a small person situated on a repulsor chair, it was Vandar Tokare, Jedi Master and Head of the Enclave on Dantooine.
"Yuthura Ban, it's good to see that you have returned here. This brings great hope to our Order." The grey little Jedi Master spoke.
"I thank you Master Vandar" Yuthura answered with a bow.
"I see that you wish to return to our Order as a Jedi once again, the Council have decided that since you have succeded to overthrow your dark persona, we will grant you your request."
"I'm very grateful, Master Vandar" Yuthura felt her heart swell to twice it sixe.
"You must, however reconsider that the journey back to the light will be a hard one and many struggles you will endure before you can again call yourself a Jedi."
"I will do my best, Master Vandar"
"I hereby, on the behalf of the Jedi Council, welcomes you, Yuhtura Ban back into the Jedi Order."
Yuthura felt that now she was indeed on the right path.
I hope that it was more details in this chapter.
Hope you enjoy it!

Chapter Four
Defeat and Victory
Five years earlier...
To turn from the dark side is never an easy thing, Yuthura experienced as she was meditating in her chamber in the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. She still felt anger and hate in her heart even if they had been weaker with each passing day as she watch the sunrise over the grassed Dantooine Steppes.
The place had a sense of calm and serentity about it that seemed to affect everything about it. It was truly a perfect place for the Jedi Order.
During her first training as a Jedi, she had felt angry at the Jedi Council for their seemingly "cowardness" and "inaction" against the slavers in the galaxy which she hated with all her heart, much due to her brutal childhood under Omeesh the Hutt.
Back then she had been proud of the fact that it was she, Yuthura, that personally had killed him by slicing his throat while he was in his bedchamber.
Now she felt, that even if he had been a drunken, ignorant and vile Hutt, it had still been life and to a Jedi, all life are sacred, even for a overweight Hutt that the galaxy would be happy to be rid of.
Yuthura signed and embraced the serenity of the light surrounding her.
Master Vandar had been right about one thing: Altough the Jedi had welcomed her back into the Order, she still felt that she needed to prove that she was back into the light.
Not to the Council or the Jedi, but to herself.
Feeling that meditation time was over, Yuhtura opened her eyes and stepped up from the floor in her room.
It was a pretty simple room, with only one big bed in the center and nothing more.
The room was formed as a square and a single door entered the room.
Some would call the room uncomfortable, but for Yuthura it's was enough.
After all Jedi lived sparely, not drowning themselfes in wealth.
As she walked out of her room and towards the Central Courtyard, she noticed worrying eyes on the passing Padawans and Masters. The war took a heavy tool on the Jedi Order and many Jedi were slain or converted each day.
In the beginning of her re-training, many young Jedi had looked upon her with disgust while other, especially older Jedi, showed a sign of proudness over her, have overcoming such a hard obstacle of turning from the dark side.
Even if she had turned from the dark side, Yuthura felt that she couldn't possible call herself a Jedi yet as her past hunted her still. Sure, her marks as a Sith had began to vanish, her eyes returning to their deep violet again and her skin began to shift towards a more normal look, but she still didn't think that she couldn't claim the title of Jedi yet.
As she stretched out under the central tree in the courtyard she began to wonder if she could ever call herself a Jedi again?
She recalled the previous day when she had meet the person she had wanted to meet again after their little dramatic rendevous on Korriban.
He had approched her when she had been standing over by one of the entrances to the Enclave.
The feeling of seeing the one that have saved you was enourmous, Yuhtura felt like she was going to cry.
When he had asked her if she wanted to come with him, she felt something stir inside her.
Should she? Was it appropiate? In the end, she answered no.
Not because she didn't wanted to, but she felt that she wasn't worthy of travelling in the company of such a noble Jedi.
It had been tempting of course, but she had a feeling that the journey he and his companions were travelling was their journey, not hers. Perhaps her time would come some other time.
She was briskly awaken from her thoughts when she felt a disturbance in the Force, something was approching fast.
In the next second, the whole Enclave shook...
I wrote something now to keep it steady and I promise that I can write better.
Today I felt that I wanted to do something different, which I shall do right now.
Please enjoy my little chapter.

That was some more interesting information about Yuthura.
I know what it is like to want to get something posted.. and NOW!
Because you are new the boards, I did want to tell you about a thing they have in the Fanfiction resource board, known as the Creche where you can get yourself signed up for a literary Master! Pretty cool. I am sure they could help even more beyond those of us reading your fictions to help you get your writing goals accomplished.
Just a thought. Whether you do or not I will keep reading.
Thanks for the post and the PM!

I for one do know the Kotor games and Yuthura. She was indeed a character with potential.
If you are unsure about whether what you write is good or not, i suggest you follow noelie's advice and go to the resource board. If you take a master be careful that they don't influence you too much, this story should first and foremost be yours.
I for one like what you are doing. Like you said, Yuthura had only a small role to play in the Game which means you have a lot of freedom to do with her what you want.
Keep up the good work. I'll be watching for another update.

Noelie: I look it up someday, thanks!
DarkMan77: As I liked her as an interesting character, I wanted to do a story in her name.
Hopefully I'm good enough to give her a spot in the light.
Chapter Five
The Duty of the Jedi
Back to present...
Yuthura calmly opened her eyes as she returned from the past. After that fateful day she had been on the run, forcing herself to hide on different planets before settling on Tatooine.
The attack on the Enclave by the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Malak had completely destroyed it and killed many Jedi, even now she didn't quite understood how she survieved.
Five years earlier...
She had laid underneath the trees as the first turboblaster bolt hit the ceiling of the Enclave, completely destroying the upper floors. She had quickly jumped up with pain in her heart as she felt many of her new friends die in the explosions.
First she hadn't known what was happening, but then she felt the strong presence of the dark side overflowing her.
It was Darth Malak, he had found them.
As soon as the first explosion had died out, a second bolt struck the apartment module of the Enclave, altough it was able to withstand the most of the impact, the entrance were almost blocked by falling debris.
Yuthura began to run towards the corridor that led upwards to the landing pads when she felt a scream echo through the Force. It was coming from the collapsed Apartment Module!
Some part of her told her that she should leave the weaklings to their fate and proceed to the landing pads, but Yuthura felt that if she left them, she would only show that she had learned nothing during her re-training as a Jedi.
Ignoring the voice in her, she run toward the collapsed entrance, finding a hole in the debris and crept inside of it.
Inside the place was a mess, the whole corridor was full of cracked stone and metall and on some places it seemed impossible to get through.
But guided by the Force, Yuthura crept alongside the debris, ignoring the fact that the entire Module could collapse completely any second.
Finally she found the source of the scream. It was at the end of the corridor, in the last room that she found her.
It was the black girl, Rahasia Sandral or something, Yuhtura recalled.
She seemed to be stuck under some kind of wall, it laid across her legs, only revealing her upper body.
She was covered in dust, making her look like a ghost and she managed to turn towards Yuthura:
"Please...Help..." A weak voice were coming from Rahasia's lips as Yuhtura approched her.
"Are you hurt?" Yuhtura asked while kneeling beside her.
"My legs...I think they are broken. Please...Save...Shen."
"Shen? Where is he?" Yuhtura said as the turboblaster bolts hit the ground around the Enclave.
Clearly, they didn't have much time.
"He was going to get something to drink...I think he was on his back." Rahasia mangaged to spoke before a bolt shook the whole building.
"Arghh...Please...help me..."
"Alright, I will try." Yuhtura stepped up and put her hands in front of her.
It was a lot of debris, but with the Force anything is possible and only a few minutes later, Rahasia was free.
Grabbing Rahasia's arms, she took her on her back and began to move toward the exit.
The journey back from the debris-filled corridor where much harder now when they were two, but in the end, they managed it.
As they crept out from under the debris, they were meet with fire. The enire Courtyard where in flames!
Yuhtura quickly prepared Rahasia for the pass through the flames and by using the Force in front of her, she managed to create a temporary shield that would possibly protect her and Rahasia from the flames.
The run though the flames wasn't a pleasant one, that she could tell. With flames all around you it was a miracle that you didn't got struck of panic, but thanks to the Jedi about mind control, Yuthura managed to keep her sanity all the way as they were running to the Northern Corridor that led to the landing pads.
She was amazed that Rahasia had managed to keep herself calm all the way through the flames, but perhaps she was in such a pain that the flames didn't bother.
When they reached the landing pads, which were thankfully enough, not on fire, Yuhtura glanched among the destroyed wreck of ships that had been docked there and her heart jumped when she discovered that her own ship was intact.
The
Serenity
was standing among the wrecks as a beacon of hope, it's still gray plating shining from both the sun and the flames of the Enclave.
Further sealing her grip on the crippled Rahasia, she started to move towards the ship, praying to the Force that a turboblaster bolt shouldn't hit their only chance at escaping.
When they had almost reached the ship, a voice began to scream across the landing pads:
"RAHASIA! RAHASHIA! WHERE ARE YOU? PLEASE ANSWER ME!" A young man were running among the burning wreckage of the ships as he continued to scream.
Using the Force, Yuthura managed to draw his attention towards them and the young man quickly turned around and ran towards them.
"Have you two seen Rahasia? She was in the Enclave when I left and..." He then took a closer look on the person that Yuthura was carrying and spat out:
"RAHASIA, You're alive, Oh, by the Force, you're alive. Thank the Force for that. Oh I'm so happy." His eyes were full of tears and relieve.
"Shen..." Rahasia weak voice spoke of nothing but true love.
"I don't know who you are, kind Jedi, but I am in your debt for rescuing my beloved Rahasia.
You have save my love and nothing can please me more."
"You're welcome, but we better get out of here if we are to survive. The barrage could start again any minute. There's a cargo compartment in my ship that fits for two. Take Rahasia there and keep her safe while I pilot the ship." Yuhtura quickly explained.
"Right"
While Yuthura climbed into the cockpit of the
Serenity
, Shen took Yuthura back to the cargo compartment of the ship.
When all were in place and the engines were powered up, Yuhtura began to clim into orbit just as the first bolts of the new barrage began to drop.
When they were nearing the outher atmosphere, Yuthura knew that this was going to be the most critical part of the escape, with Darth Malak up there with his fleet armada and several ships guarding the planet, escape would almost be impossible.
But she had one trick up her sleeve, she could perhaps use the Force to make herself invisible to the Sith Lord's powers and slip away without a scratch?
It was a fragile plan, but it was the only one she had.
As the ship exited the atmosphere, Yuthura's eyes caught the massive fleet orbiting the planet. Malak certainly didn't want anyone to escape.
She noticed several
Interdictor
-class Cruisers, the most common of the Sith capital ships.
It was formed as a triangle, with a big space between the upper and lower decks, making it look like a fish mouth seen from profile.
It was around 600 meters, equipped with 20 Quad laser cannons, 4 Turbolaser batteries and 2 Ion cannons.
Alongside the Cruisers were several small Sith Fighters, patrolling the perimeter while the Cruisers bombarded the planet below.
Seeing that this was the time to put her plan to the test, Yuthura calmed herself and gripped the steering handle of her ship.
As the Force flowed through all sections of the ship, into the cockpit, the four wingtips, the hyperdrive, the cargo hold where the wounded Rahasia laid in her love's arms, Yuhtura knew that the plan was useless.
The dark side was to strong and soon she heard the Dark Lord speak through her head:
"You cannot hide, my child, the dark side will always find you" Malak's synthetic voice made Yuthura shiver into her core.
As Yuhtura glanched through the port side window of the cockpit, she noticed five Sith Fighters detach themself from the others and began to fly towards her.
"You cannot escape, surrender and I might spare your live." Malak's voice continued to speak in her head.
"Never" Yuthura almost screamed out as she turned the ship away from the approching Fighters.
"It's futile to resist, the Sith will be victorious and the Jedi will be destroyed alongside with the Republic, it's their destiny."
"Then I will die with them!" Yuthura cried out.
"As you wish."
In horror, Yuthura watched how one Interdictor Cruiser slowly turned towards her, powering up it's gravity well generator which, if activated before Yuthura could escape, would almost certainly seal her fate and the fate of her passengers.
The Fighters were near now, their laser cannons had began to spray deadly beams of light across the
Serenity
.
Outrun them was not an option, her ship was outfitted with a hyperdrive and a deflector shield generator, not to mention the two extra laser cannons, making her ship's speed almost 2/3 of the Sith Fighters speed.
However, her ship could take more damage due to the shield and she had twice the firepower of a normal Sith Fighter.
But she was outnumbered and her ship was not maneouverly enough to engage the Fighters all at one, she must thin their number first before going into a dogfight.
Sensing that turning wasn't fast enough to get the Fighters into range of her lasers, Yuthura quickly pushed the brake of her ship.
The ship almost immediately stopped and the Fighters, confused at the unusual tactic, flew right by her.
Yuthura, who didn't want to waste a moment of the precious time she had bought, opened fire with all four of the ships laser cannons, which were aimed at the central ship in the formation.
With no shield, the fighter was at the mercy of the
Serenity
's lasers and it exploded in a brilliant blue light as the lasers struck the engines.
As soon as the fighter blew up, the other four had already began to turn and were soon once again facing Yuthura.
Seeing the wall of beams approching, Yuthura pulled the handle down to a steep dive.
As she did so, she heard a yelp from the cargo hold.
Rahasia was suffering, to many acrobatic manouvers like this and she could be damage more.
As the craft dived, so did it's attackers. The fighters were following the
Serenity
with ease and soon the beams rained again.
Using her Jedi reflexes, Yuthura pushed the brake again and made som sort of turn so that she was directly facing the fighters approched her.
With the help of the Force, she managed to hit two ships before they flew past her, one in the wing, making it spin until it exploded.
The other ship was hit in the cockpit, vanishing it within a second.
Now there was only two fighters left and they had turned so that they approched from both sides of Yuhtura's ship making it impossible to destroy them without rendering the vulnerable engines towards the other attacker.
As the fighters were closing in, Yuthura felt that this was her last chance.
She had to destroy the fighters in the next seconds to make the jump to hyperspace before the Interdictor Cruiser had powered up it's gravity field, rendering her escape route impossible.
Yuthura was tired, but she couldn't give up now, she had to take Shen and Rahasia to safety.
Praying to the Force that this would work, Yuthura waited until the fighter came very close before activating a quick speed burts in the engine, throwing the ship out of the way of the lasers.
The pilots of the fighters had known that they would approched from both side to attack the ship, but they didn't how near they had been to each others before it was to late.
As the ships crashed straight into one another, Yuhtura wasted no time and just seconds before the Cruiser had finish it's powering up, the
Serenity
was in the safety of Hyperspace.
Following the lucky escape from Malak, Yuthura brought Shen and Rahasia to the nearest Republic world.
After determined that Rahasia would recevie professional help, Yuthura departed to Coruscant to report the destruction of the Dantooine Enclave to the Jedi High Council.
As she arrived on Coruscant, it seemed that the entire population was celebrating.
All over the streets, people were danching and laughing and and fireworks lit up the skies above the mighty city.
Yuthura, confused gazed at the big HoloNet screens that were showing a major explosion somewhere in a unknown system:
"The Republic scored a tremendeous victory today as the source of the Sith's major fleet were destroyed and it's been confirmed that Darth Malak himself was killed in that explosion.
With no one to lead them, the remaining Sith will be confused and spokesmen for the Republic can safetly say that the war is over."
After she had read that final part, Yuthura felt relived. The war was over.
Now the galaxy could rest again.
Perhaps now the galaxy and herself could finally get some peace.
Back to the present...
As the twin suns were rising outside the windows of Yuthura's hut, she began to wonder.
Had she recevied peace?
Perhaps, but perhaps not, the galaxy was never peaceful.
The first years after Victoy Day had not been so quite peaceful as reconstruction had to be done to the worlds that had been damaged in the war, Telos in particular.
It entire surface had been wiped clean and even now, five years later, they still weren't done.
Yuhtura signed, no the galaxy was not peaceful and it had became worse due to the lack of Jedi, mostly because of these mysterious assassins and the bounty posted by the Exchange, the infamous intergalactic crime syndicate.
Yuthura wasn't sure how many Jedi were still alive perhaps a few, perhaps there were a hundred Jedi out there waiting for their chance to expose themself to the galaxy again.
But with the defeat of the Sith again at Telos IV, perhaps the Jedi could return?
The bounty was still there and perhaps a few assassins were still working even after their defeat?
Yuthura decided that she would lay low for a couple of days more just to be sure and then she would try to return to Coruscant.
As she grabbed her robe and wandered out into the crowed streets of Anchorhead, her mind wandered.
The Jedi who had helped in the Battle of Telos IV, what if it had been that young Jedi from the Enclave? Perhaps she would have the chance to see him again?
The though were a happy one and she kept it all the way to the down the road.
Allright, enough memories now!
Now I will rest so that my inspiration comes back.
If anyone wants to be put one a PM list, just say it.

No one posted...
I hope my story isn't boring anyone.
Here's a short update as I don't feel like I can write very long now.
Chapter Six
Unexpecting Rendevous
Tatooine wasn't what you would call a lovely planet, in fact it was the farthest from it.
The temperature was high, slavers, villains, spacers all crowded the streets.
Most had come to hide as the Republic in reality had little control of Tatooine while others had come to work for the local Hutts, mostly bounty hunters.
As Yuthura wandered through the crowded masses of people, completely anonymous in her dark robe, she noticed that despite everything that was said about the planet, it still had beauty. Yuthura didn't know how many times she had stood at the wall of Anchorhead and watched the twin suns lower themselfs into the ground while the sky shifted to burning orange mixed with the sudden appearance of the stars.
The Dune Sea also showed it's trait of beauty as the suns shone upon the golden sand, reflecting like a sea of crystals.
True, Tatooine was dangerous but beautiful and a perfect place to hide.
She had managed to survive the past few months on the little credits she had, but now there were only a few chips left.
She lifted her head as she saw a ship approched, but she only caught a glance at it before it settled down inside one of the hangars.
It had seemed like an ordinary small fighter, but Yuthura didn't really bother.
Ships arrived and left a daily ratius as on all other planets, but Yuthura had felt a tingle in the Force as it landed, something bright and shiny.
Neverless, it was time to find a pilot that could take her back to Coruscant, hopefully for a small price.
The cantina was the same as the one she had visited yesterday, but where there was a cantina, there were always pilots.
A Yuthura seated herself by one of the tables, she began to scan the area after a suitable client.
It was hard to really get a find in this crowed area so Yuthura decided to shift to the Force, but when she let the Force flow through her, she felt a bright spot approched her position.
Looking up from her hood, she saw a figure closing in towards her table.
The Figure was dressed the same way as Yuthura, with hood and a robe covering pretty much everything of it's appereance.
Yuthura quickly sensed danger and laid on hand on her lightsaber as she waited.
When the figure was in front of her table, she noticed that the figure was also carrying a lightsaber.
Tightening her grip on her saber, she spoke:
"What do you want?"
"Can I sit?" A feminine voice came from under the hood.
"What do you want?" Yuthura repeated herself.
The months on Tatooine had taught her one thing: Never trust a stranger.
"First of all, you can remove the lightsaber from your hand and second: Can I sit?" the voice sounded almost commanding.
"By all means" Yuthura felt that this was a person that you couldn't order around.
"Thank you."
The figure settled down on the chair opposite Yuthura.
"Are you Yuthura Ban, Jedi Knight of the Republic?" the figure suddenly asked.
"What makes you think I am?"
"Well first of all, you wear a lightsaber and second, you are the only Jedi that I can feel on this planet so it must be you."
"Even if it is me, what is it that you want and who are you if you know who I am?"
"The truth is..." The figure lifted her hood, revealing two grey eyes and a slender face surrounded by brown hair.
"...that I am Bastila Shan, Jedi Knight of the Galatic Republic and I have come to you now to ask you to help me."

I am sorry. You sent the links, but like an idiot I just went to look at the page and try to find it.. and couldn't see it!
Then I get busy and never go back to the PM to find the link.
I apologize.
Well:
Her back story is intesesting. Remember that back story is tough to tell. You have to go into what I think is a great deal of exposition to make sense of it. Then to make it fit into what her life is now. Perhaps a seamless way to attempt this would be to set the scene for her looking back, and then she does. I know that is what you attempted, but it was this technique "five years earlier" "back to the present- could be done more like having yuthura sitting and thinking on her memory. "She thought of that day five years earlier.. ect ect"
I think it helps the reader a bit more, but please this is ONLY suggestions, because I am certainly no expert and truly not read at all on the boards, so I am not doing a great deal right either! :-)
But the next part was cool having Bastila show up! I have read about her in a few other fics and tend to like what I have read, so that is nice.
Again sorry for taking so long to comment!
