You're trying to kill me aren't you. That must be it...bringing Xan back! You're evil! lol. I'm glad that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan missed each other though. It shows a lot about their relationship, and that makes me happy. Keep up the awesome work!

Very nice beginning!
I wonder what Xanatos has in mind - could be interesting!!!
And before he could reply, strong arms caught him in a comprehensive hug. He felt himself relax, even smile, as he felt himself folded in a warm embrace, and let his head rest on Qui-Gon’s shoulder. His own arms tightened around Qui-Gon’s waist.
Wonderful relationship between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan!

Obi-Wan’s disappointed eyes brought a smile to his face. Someone still wished for his presence without wanting endless missions and impossible achievements from him.
Aaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww, what a wonderful sentiment between them.
Xanatos is back, eh? And with his scar. Indeed this is an intriguing development. Now, you must continue this.

It starts really well. Intriguing. What is Xan doing at the Temple? Does he want to go back to being Qui-Gon's padawan? Or is he planning sth evil??? (and the first option is just a cover up?)
Here You have me! I'm gonna check this story for new chapters. Please update soon

You have my undivided attendion
!!
Don't stop! It seems th Jinn has not seen Xani in a while. Though Yoda seem unworried at his presence. Why is he here, I hope that he is going to be a wickedly important part of the story, though I also hope that he and obi become friends.
Obi wan is so nice, wanting to please everyone, but having only Jinn in mind for meditiation and comfort.
What was the mission?
Why did it go wrong?
Can't wait post soon!!!!

Awww, love their interactions and characterizations! But, now what is Qui going to say about Xan suddenly showing up?
And that Obi knew about it. Hope it won't create a rift between them.
Great beginning...more please?

I read it and I loved it so it needs a comment and *UP*
I was sure I had already commented so I was quite surprised to discover that was untrue. I feel for them, Obi gone for two and half months and when he returns his life is about to be thrown out of the loop along with Qui, who is no doubt very surprised!
He had been looking forward to seeing and talking with his apprentice to relax, and now the fallen one returns to wreak havoc in the temple! I wonder what Xan's excuse will be or why he has returned, and the impact that will have on the DreamTeam. But I can't hate him because he is your Xan and you always make him very fun! Especially when he is in the Light!!
Please say he will be the fun sarcastic Xan we know!!!
I wonder about Obi's reaction... he would have gotten along very well with Xan without the history, maybe a little jealous at first (but becoming Qui's padawan would have been easier as well since there would have been no previous trauma) but they would have been good friends I think. You were the one who convinced me of that with your other works!
But now? I can't imagine how he will behave, especially since he is also trying to comfort a fellow padawan and friend. Maybe he will be protective and distrustful, some insecurities will come to light. Or will he trust the Council and try to help the previous team to mend their friendship out of concern for the master? (trying to repair the damage the turning had made, making he believe that training Xan wasn't a mistake at all?) Will he try to ignore what is going on and releace it into the force?
I really don't know... but I want to badly!!!
So please

Thank the force someone uped this because I am very happy to have read this fic~!\
It looks like lives are being flipped and twisted everywhere you look. The death of a master, long missions, and now Xan!? I wonder what reason he would return and if it will be for the better or the worse in the end. So many questions yet no answers…yet? I hope he is the sarcastic Xan that we all learn to love in fics, but if not DUDE I am just happy for him in this fic.
I wonder though the Obi/Xan relationship and if it is/will be good or bad too. I need more of this and it better still live because it is too good already to die off!!!
WELL if it is alive can you add me to your PM list, and till then UP!!!! @.@

Again - back after more than a year. Still. This is one of my favourites, and since I've sort of finished the basic plotpoints, I should be able to get this back on track. Thanks to all the lovelies who left feedback.I'm back here because of you.
Layren
: I *have* left you hanging in there for a long time, haven't I? Well, here's more to tempt you. Thanks!
ctt
: Evil cliffy, yes. Hopefully, it'll get more evil from now on. Thanks.
Valairy_Scot
: Hey, hugs for coming back and editing replies. Obi-Wan is more than compassionate, he's very impressed with Ebell. That poor boy, however, has more than enough to handle.
dianethx
: Lol, the other Masters. They have their reasons.
Thanks, my lady.
VaderLVR64
: Thanks, dear Vadey. If I were only as prolific as you ...
dimyavie

Thanks for writing.
ardavenport
: Thanks, I have every intention of continuing. At least, I can. Well actually, I ...
Heh.
master_jade
: You never know. Half the time I don;t know what Xan's planning myself.
Thanks for commenting.
Gkilkenny

XANl
: Lots of questions and even more answers. Patience, my dear, and you'll see why Xan's here. Hey, that rhymes!
Thanks.
ClaudiaR
: Hmmm ... interesting observations. A lightside Xan would certainly have made Obi's apprenticeship easier - and they would have sort of rounded off each others corners well. That's how I see it. Now, though, the dynamics are different. Fireworks!
Thanks so much.
Ganki
: I'm going to have some fun (and tear my hair) writing the dynamics of Xan and Obi.
I only hope I don't disappoint everyone. Thanks for writing.
Now for an update.

Chapter 3
Inside their quarters, Obi-Wan paused to take his first breath of non-mission moment. The soothing familiarity of their home, coupled with the assorted smells of freshly pressed tunics, the bitter-sweet flavour of chithli wafting from within the cooking area, and the indefinable something that characterized the presence of Qui-Gon served to comfort a rather unsettled mind that kept wandering back to the recently concluded mission.
He wandered idly through the rooms, taking in what exactly Qui-Gon had been up to, in his absence. The common area held his long cloak draped over the back of the couch, beginning to become frayed at the edges.
I must remember to petition the quartermaster for a replacement
, Obi-Wan mused. Though what exactly Qui-Gon had been doing to get one of his cuffs torn at neat right-angles was beyond his comprehension. And were those teeth-marks?
Their work-table contained new scratches and the discarded hilt of a sabre - signs that his master had been making adjustments to his weapon again. Qui-Gon had mentioned during one of their sparring sessions before the mission that the calibrations for the stun setting were slightly off – a fact corroborated by two mild scorches Obi-Wan suffered. When the padawan suggested that his master take another weapon as a substitute for a brief period, Qui-Gon had replied nonchalantly that a few burns would serve well not to taunt his master about burnt liso soups. Obi-Wan had replied that Qui-Gon might as well use his decrepit light-sabre to cook it as it could be used for nothing else. A considerable part of the rest of the session had been spent by Obi-Wan in leaping from one high ledge to another, with one loose-limbed master hard at his well-booted heels.
Obi-Wan’s own rooms were scrupulously neat, and in more or less the same state he had left them in ten weeks ago. His used Jedi tunics, freshly laundered, sat in his shelf. Those data-cards he was due to return had been done so, with four new ones arranged on his table. Memories of neglected lessons and to-be-arranged course schedules crept across his mind, and he sighed. A brief thought of whether he would see Bon Ebell in any of them fluttered across his consciousness. Ebell had mentioned once that he attended a few of the senior padawan classes, despite his having passed his trials and being more or less a full-fledged knight. All that remained was his knighthood ceremony. His lessons, if they could be called that, had something to do with catching up on long lost diplomatic-session schedules.
Obi-Wan had been intensely interested in what Ebell had to say about his trials, but despite his discrete questions, Ebell had said precious little. He had seemed, in justice to him, much more surprised that he had actually managed to pass them – but within the short period they had traveled, had been quick to tell the younger padawan it was strength of heart and complete trust in the Force that mattered more than anything else. These might have been standard phrases dropping from any Jedi’s mouth, but from the newly minted Bon Ebell who had just shouldered his master’s death like a Jedi, they had seemed to carry the essence of the Force itself. Obi-Wan marveled anew at Ebell’s strength. Now there was a Jedi knight worthy of his master’s legacy.
Thoughts of Ebell had somehow dampened his enthusiasm in further inspection of his room. He ignored his inviting sleep-couch and went over to Qui-Gon’s chambers.
These were in a state of some disarray, though it was obvious that Qui-Gon had taken some effort to put things away. His collection of hand-made pottery showed signs of being handled, while a pile of data-cards rested in a heap on his table. Two pairs of nerf-skin boots looked considerably the worse for the wear, while fresh stacks of Jedi tunics were folded away in a tiny shelf. Assorted light-sabre parts were scattered about the small shelf attached to the sleep-couch.
Obi-Wan shook his head, debating whether he should take advantage of the aromatic chithli waiting in the cooking area, or give in to his instincts and tidy up. His thirst won out. Pulling off his boots, he walked into the cooking area, to find a steaming cup on the counter. Warming chilled fingers over the cup, he gingerly took it into his hands.
As the first spicy mouthful burst onto his taste-buds, he cats his eyes over the spotless area. Qui-Gon, always taking pride in his culinary efforts, had made sure that not a speck of dust marred the place. Alternatively, it probably had been an exceptionally well-programmed maintenance droid. Obi-Wan smiled a little as he looked at the second covered cup. Qui-Gon was not generally fond of the drink, but welcomed the thought of sharing one with his padawan. A pity that he had been called to the council …
A small tendril of uneasiness traveled down his spine. The masters had looked serious; he would have felt more had they not been shielding well. What puzzled him was their obvious haste, and Qui-Gon’s own reluctance. Surely they would have appointed a time for their meeting … He found himself running quickly through all their activities in the past months and his own behaviour in the recent mission, wondering if any of them had led to this sudden conference. Involuntarily, his grip on the cup tightened.
Well. There was really no use wondering until Qui-Gon himself returned and –
His fingers crushed the thick, hardy cup until the handle broke loose and splintered onto the floor in tiny pieces.
Qui-Gon.
***
Xanatos.
Ancient Jedi said that the Force was your greatest and most trustworthy ally. It came to your aid when you fought enemies, soothed when you meditated, trying to calm unsettled minds and bodies, lent its considerable support when you dealt with frazzled diplomats, irate ambassadors and worked in vain to prevent whole planets from exploding into civil wars, was your backbone when you walked in to face a full council that was prepared to conduct an inquisition on your missions …
… but it seemed to offer nothing when you faced a padawan who had been your life for years, and then suddenly turned, tried to assassinate you and your padawan and then declared, writhing in a frenzy of hate and malice, that he was your greatest failure, before jumping into a pool of acid. And then, through some miraculous and no doubt hideous twist of fate, reappeared to taunt you.
Doubtless, the Force had some hidden vendetta against Qui-Gon. He had seemingly, even without his own knowledge, fallen asleep while waiting for Obi-Wan, and the Force had somehow brought Xanatos DeCrion to haunt his dreams, declare what a spectacular failure he had been in trying to train this brilliant, evil boy. And here he was, in the presence of several Council Members, left trying to gather his wits and confront a situation he devoutly wished Obi-Wan would never have to face. Nightmare or not.
The spell broke when Master Windu’s deep voice sounded close, from somewhere to his right. Somehow, he doubted that even a dream could bring that voice to perfection. “As you can see …”
Yes – but what was it that he did see? Someone who had returned from the dead? A spectre of his dreams? Another who looked suspiciously like Xanatos, scar intact?
There were others in the Council chamber, beside Xanatos. The whole Council, in fact. Guarding the perpetrator of crimes that could not even be spoken by the average Jedi. He could barely bear to look again at that tall, straight figure that stood in the middle, silent.
Qui-Gon heard himself as though from far away. “If this is some sort of hoax …” The moment he had uttered them, he felt ridiculous.
It was obvious that others felt the same. Master Piell’s face turned stern, while Yoda looked disapproving. The general feeling, if they could allow themselves to feel, however, seemed to be that of sympathetic understanding.
“I’m sure you’ll agree that it is very far from the Council’s intentions to perpetrate anything of the kind,” came Master Windu’s dry voice, and strangely, Qui-Gon felt a small measure of comfort.
He still felt as though he were part of unreal proceedings. Yet, he had to be sure. “Are you saying that …” he paused. So much time had passed since he uttered that name that it seemed foreign, now. “Who is this?”
“Do you not know him?” Master Piell’s voice floated over to them.
Qui-Gon was silent for what seemed like ages. the question seemed ridiculous. “It is difficult to know someone who took his own life.” It looked like Xanatos. It seemed like him. But why didn’t he speak? The old Xanatos had always been eager to get a word in, no matter what the situation. Qui-Gon could still almost hear his voice, rising in defiance and barely controlled irritation. The scar certainly seemed real, but then scars could be replicated by anyone, anywhere …
There was really only one way to find out.
“Judge for yourself, you will,” came Yoda’s raspy voice. “Here with us, is one who claims to be Xanatos DeCrion. Your former padawan. Know him better than anyone, you do. Tell us what you see, you will, Master Qui-Gon.”
And then, suddenly, the cloak of dream-like quality fell away; reality asserted itself. A long, slow burn of anger began to simmer deep within him. “You would ask this of me?” he turned slowly to Master Windu. “You, who know what passed between us? You are aware of everything that happened. Why must you know my opinion?” The words were uttered civilly, but no one could doubt the dull throb of anger that lay beneath them.
True to a Council Member’s mien, Mace Windu’s eyes did not falter. “I would ask this of you, Qui-Gon.”
For an instant, a shadow of darkness flitted over Qui-Gon’s eyes. Then, he drew himself up to his full, imposing height. “I was present when Xanatos DeCrion fell into a pool of acid in Telos.”
“Felt his passing, you did?”
Silence seemed to settle like a heavy quilt over those present. Qui-Gon directed a keen gaze at Yoda. “My presence here is unnecessary, I think. If there really were questions about this man’s identity, they would have been solved by now.”
Silence again. A lesser being would have come to the end of his tether.
“Master Qui-Gon, we understand your thoughts about being summoned here in such a manner,” came Plo Koon’s even voice. “Considering the circumstances, however, it was the Council’s opinion that you heard and saw this before it became common knowledge.”
Qui-Gon stared at the Council windows for a long while. “I don’t profess to know the purpose of this person’s intrusion here,” he spoke slowly, his voice carefully devoid of emotion. “But I submit, respectfully, that I will answer no questions about his identity, nor entertain the idea that Xanatos DeCrion is alive.” Then, his gaze rested on Master Yoda. "Having brought me here, however, I believe the Council owes me certain explanations of its own."
While Pielle and Windu looked at each other, Masters Yoda, Rancisis and Plo Koon gazed gravely back at him. "To do so would require acceptance from you regarding his identity."
Qui-Gon bowed comprehensively. “If you will pardon me, I have a padawan who awaits me in my quarters.” He turned to leave.
“Qui-Gon.”
The voice, at least, was the same. The same steely undertones to a rather deceptively clear voice that was dulcet in its sweetness when it chose.
Never, in all his years as a teacher to Xanatos, had Qui-Gon ever failed to heed his student’s call. This time was no exception.

You updated! Hurray! I hope this means you'll be updating some of your others?
:Learner:
I love that Qui-Gon was so stubborn but I certainly understand. After all, he thought Xanatos was dead, had seen him committing suicide. If this is Xan, then questions need to be addressed such as why he wasn't dead, why he wasn't scarred from the acid and where the heck he's been for 7 years. OH, and why the Council isn't more upset that he's returned
Great job. Loved it. Looking forward to more!
