It's about time Qui got Xanatos' attention.
I'm glad to read there is a spark of something in his eyes.
I loved the scene with Obi-Wan and Quinn. Such typical boys
Great update

Jinn is doing Xan a favor - kicking his butt until he grabs back onto life and does the right thing for everyone.
"I intend to bring you here every day so that you may see what you are missing out on." Qui-Gon’s words were spoken in a low enough voice so that no one could overhear. "You forget that I know you better than anyone, Xan. You are one of the strongest, most resilient and certainly the most hard headed person I’ve had the pleasure to meet. You will not let this beat you. I won’t let you give up on yourself."
He could feel his face heat with shame, anger quickly rising and threatening to choke him. Even after everything they had been through together, he never would have imagined Jinn to be capable of such cruelty. Determination filled him, warriors instincts kicking in as he prepared himself to battle the man next to him.
Jinn wasn't being cruel, but a Master worried about his former Padawan.
Great job.

Great post!
Obi and Quin are a great pair. Boys.....
I think Obi is going to have a lot of mistrust to get over when Xan finally wakes up.
No Xan! Don't push Quin away! He can help you. Stubborn Xani....
Qui's attempts to get Xan to wake up are great. I just hope they work.....
Very good work here! Can't wait for the next post!

Well pooh, I lost track of this story because I got bogged down in Darth Real Life, so I told myself I would catch up and now I've read all the way through in one go and I'm at the end of the updates already, and I wanted it to keep going through to the end! Ahh well, I suppose that'll happen eventually I just now am impatient because I have to wait like everyone else
Could you please add me again to your PM list? I tend to lurk more than I used to, but I'm trying to do better about it

Qui-Gon knows how to get Xan out of his depression.
How embarrassing to be carried over his shoulder.
Great update.

Xani: obi wan feelings for xan, are they jealously or caution??
A bit of both. Xan was apprentice to the man that Obi-Wan longs to have as his own mentor. Plus Obi-Wan is worried about his best friend and Quin’s fascination with Xan.
Ratna: If someone could tell him that those feelings are proof positive of his own goodness, perhaps that would give him the faith to overcome his fears that he is forever stained.
Luckily Xan has people who love and care about him. It may take a little time, but I’m sure Qui is up to the challenge.
Jedidas3: Qui-Gon has his work cut out for him!
And he has some explaining to do in the next post.
Bek: Also liked that Xan's thoughts toward Obi were somewhat on the affectionate side, meaning that they could probably be friends if circumstances were different.
Those two may come to some form of understanding as this story progresses.
KELIA: I loved the scene with Obi-Wan and Quinn. Such typical boys
Thanks. It’s been fun trying to imagine what they would have been like when they were young.
Diane: Jinn wasn't being cruel, but a Master worried about his former Padawan.
Xan may nor be the only one who finds his methods rather harsh.
Wolf_kenobi: No Xan! Don't push Quin away! He can help you. Stubborn Xani...
Xan will continue to be that way for some time.
Leona: Loved Qui-Gon's version of tough love.
He isn’t done yet.
Jinngerbread: I just now am impatient because I have to wait like everyone else
Sorry. Thanks for reading and I’ll add you to the list.
Gkilkenny: How embarrassing to be carried over his shoulder.
But I sure would enjoy witnessing that.
Chapter Twenty-Four- A Final Goodbye
Qui-Gon stood in the center of the room, arms crossed over his chest as his eyes followed the healer's frantic pacing. He wasn’t surprised at her reaction to his rather unorthodox methods of dealing with Xanatos. In fact, he had been expecting it. That knowledge allowed him to remain calm and give her the opportunity to express her feelings.
“I’ve allowed you to be active in his healing because you led me to believe that you had forgiven the past and were genuinely concerned for his well being. If for one second I had seen anything that proved otherwise, I wouldn’t have hesitated to toss you out of his room on your ear.” Exotic yellow eyes shot him a burning glance of betrayal. “I do not understand how you could be so senselessly cruel to a young man you claim to love as a son.”
Sending a quick glance in the direction of the lone Council member in the room, Qui-Gon took a moment to gather his thoughts before addressing her concerns. “I’ve raised him since he was a mere child of nine. I know how he thinks better than anyone. We are at the point where something drastic has to be done to pull him out of this before it is too late. Xan is more than a little arrogant and can not abide having anyone view him as being weak or pitying him. Being in the training salle, seeing the reaction his condition draws from his fellow Jedi will force him to drop this charade.”
“Charade?’ Milcah repeated in bemusement as she stopped her pacing to face him. “You think he is faking?”
Knowing he was on dangerous ground, Qui-Gon was careful how he worded his observation. “I’ve sensed that he is more aware then he is leading us to believe. I think he is frightened and reluctant to face what happened on Korriban. We have to find a way to get his mind off of what happened there, and back in the here and now.”
“Let us say that your plan works. You run the risk of turning his anger toward yourself.”
Qui-Gon’s gaze was direct as it met hers. “I’m counting on it.”
“Dangerous is this plan, Qui-Gon,” Master Yoda interjected for the first time. “Anger is already his weakness and the cause of much of what has happened. Grave danger I sense in inciting his darker emotions.”
Milcah’s brow was furrowed with worry as she nodded her head. “I agree. As his counselor I have reservations about your plan and how it could affect his mental health. We all know Xanatos walks a fine line. Why do anything that could help push him over to the dark side?”
“Xan is a passionate person,” Qui-Gon explained in a serious voice. “No matter how much we try, we will never be able to train that out of him. I was a fool to believe that I could change something that is such an ingrained part of him. This is the only chance we have of snapping Xanatos out of this. As for his anger, it wouldn‘t be the first time I‘ve been on the receiving end of it. I can handle it.”
Master Yoda considered his words for some time before sighing loudly. “Allow you to continue for now I will. If no change soon, other arrangements will be made for his long term care.”
Qui-Gon and Milcah exchanged troubled glances at the ominous statement. Both were well aware of the Jedi institution that existed in the Outer Rim territories that acted as both a prison and a mental facility. Force sensitive individuals that were either a danger to themselves or others, or incapacitated by injuries or disease lived out their lives there under stringent supervision. The thought of Xanatos being sentenced to such a fate was almost more than Qui-Gon could bear.
His expression hardened into lines of determination as he met the wizened gaze. “I can assure you that it will not come to that.”
Yoda appeared pleased by his pronouncement before shifting to yet another touchy subject. “Received a holo message from Master Dooku we have.”
Both Jedi Masters were visibly stunned by his words, their eyes wide as he waved a hand to activate the nearby holoscreen. The three dimensional figure of Qui-Gon’s former mentor materialized, aged features appearing wan and pinched as the Count began to speak in a voice laced with seeming weariness.
“Greetings my former master. I wish I were sending this transmission under vastly different circumstances but it can not be helped. I have failed , Master Yoda. In my arrogance I assumed that the fault for Padawan Akshay’s failure could be laid directly at the feet of Qui-Gon Jinn and that I could train the boy. I was horribly wrong.” Dooku’s head bowed as if he no longer had the strength to hold it up.
“I quickly found out that Xanatos has become too tainted by the dark side. His actions during his Trial mission were appalling and so far beyond those of a Jedi that I can’t bear to even go into detail. He turned on me during our return trip home and commandeered the ship to the planet Korriban.”
Qui-Gon took a step forward, mouth opening to shoot a protest at the image but caught himself in time and forced himself to listen to the remainder of the message.
“He meant to kill me but I managed to wound him before escaping to the ship and taking off. I was forced to leave him on the planet. I regret the mistake I made in trusting Akshay but this entire episode has only strengthened the dawning knowledge I have had that I can no longer serve as a Jedi. The Order is morphing into something that I can not in good conscience continue to support.”
Dooku lifted his head, his piercing gaze seeming to pin each of them in place. “I pray to the Force that you all will accept my wishes and allow me to go on with my life unmolested. Although I fear my words will fall on deaf ears, I feel compelled to warn you of the demon you have once again brought into the Temple. Akshay is cunning and can not be trusted. He will bide his time and strike when you least expect it. Please heed my warning, and May the Force be with you.”
The image flickered and faded, Qui-Gon and Milcah immersed in their own thoughts for some time as each considered what they had just seen. Eventually the petite healer shook herself, her gaze haunted as it traveled between Qui-Gon and Yoda.
“I can’t help thinking that if we had not been gifted with young Quinlan’s vision, we very well may have believed every word Dooku said.”
Qui-Gon paled beneath his beard, large body trembling in outrage as he braved Master Yoda’s keen stare. “Dooku is certainly a convincing actor. What does the Council plan to do about this ... travesty?”
“Alerted all field operatives to keep their eyes and ears open we have. Little hope we have of finding him however.” Pointed ears seemed to briefly dip as the ancient master discussed his former apprentice. “If wish to remain hidden Dooku does, find him we will not.”
The moment of melancholy vanished as quickly as it appeared, Yoda leveling Qui-Gon and Milcah with an unrelenting stare. “Step up your efforts to bring Xanatos out of this you must. Go, and may the Force be with you.”
Waiting until the two had bowed and retreated from the room, Yoda once again activated the holo. Sorrow gleamed in his eyes as he once again replayed the message from his former pupil.

Grabs first post!!!
Man, I am loving this story! I feel for Yoda. Qui-Gon's Xan is still able to be saved, but his Dooku has gone beyond the pale.
*sigh*
Wonderful update, and of course you just leave us wanting more....

Wonderful.
I am so glad they do not believe Dooku.
Xani will come out of it and become a great Master.

The one thing Xan has in abundance is vanity!
I think that Qui Gon understands this better than anyone.
It is about time for Yoda to discover the real Dooku!
He has hidden his dark side and now has a chance to blame
Xani for his leaving the order.

It's good that Qui-Gon is being his usual stubborn self in make Yoda and the healer see that he does know what is best for Xan's recovery.
I wonder if Qui will tell Xan about Yoda's suggestion to send him to that Jedi facility if he doesn't snap out of it soon.
That news would probably make him jump off the bed and act like nothings wrong.
Another fantastic post! Only, I want more...soon?

I'm glad Qui got permission to keep treating Xan in his own way... I have a feeling it will work.
Dooku's message... . I'm glad they knew better than to believe it though. Poor Yoda...
Looking forward to more! Great post!

If he is right and Xanatos is frightened, provoking him to anger might not necessarily be the best solution to the problem. I hope it doesn't backfire on him and end up causing more problems than it solves. I'm not so sure I agree with Qui-Gon on this one, it seems a bit odd for Jedi to want to encourage anger in any way whatsoever, especially Qui-Gon who'd been burned by Xanatos's anger before, but I guess will just have to wait and see how it plays out.
And interesting holo message that Dooku sent, thank goodness they don't believe that.
Most interesting development, indeed.
Edited for grammar.

Very exciting post. I really loved Dooku in this one - such convincing lies.
“I quickly found out that Xanatos has become too tainted by the dark side. His actions during his Trial mission were appalling and so far beyond those of a Jedi that I can’t bear to even go into detail. He turned on me during our return trip home and commandeered the ship to the planet Korriban.”

He will bide his time and strike when you least expect it. Please heed my warning, and May the Force be with you.”
Sowing distrust of anything that Xan might say in his own defense or else implicating Dooku - the man certainly knows how to play the wounded old Jedi who must leave for his own moral code.
Great job.
