Grrrr
I really should work on finishing my term paper but I just can´t concentrate. So I thought it would help to finally write a review for the chapter. Might get the words flowing again.
I am so glad that Qui Gon has a plan to draw Xan out of his shell (stubborn little mule). His plan has good chances at success.
Dooku´s message was brilliant. If they hadn´t known what happened beforehand I am sure they would have believed him.
Can´t wait till the next chapter. Hopefully more Qui Gon and Xan.

Ratna: I feel for Yoda. Qui-Gon's Xan is still able to be saved, but his Dooku has gone beyond the pale.
I had little sympathy for Yoda until I read Dark Rendezvous. It was a wonderful book and gave some lovely insight into Yoda’s time with Dooku. 
Gkilkenny: Xani will come out of it and become a great Master.
Let’s hope that at least Quin ends up feeling that way. 
XANI: The one thing Xan has in abundance is vanity!
I think that Qui Gon understands this better than anyone.
Qui certainly knows just what buttons to push. Let’s hope that gift doesn’t fail him when he needs it most.
Jedidas3: Wonderful update, but the only problem is that it leaves me wanting even more! That fact only proves what a terrific story this is!
Awwww.  Thank you so much. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
Bek: I wonder if Qui will tell Xan about Yoda's suggestion to send him to that Jedi facility if he doesn't snap out of it soon.
The subject may come up in passing but it won’t be snaps Xan into shape. 
Wolf_kenobi: I'm glad Qui got permission to keep treating Xan in his own way... I have a feeling it will work.

Jinngerbread: I hope it doesn't backfire on him and end up causing more problems than it solves. I'm not so sure I agree with Qui-Gon on this one, it seems a bit odd for Jedi to want to encourage anger in any way whatsoever, especially Qui-Gon who'd been burned by Xanatos's anger before, but I guess will just have to wait and see how it plays out.
Qui-Gon is smart enough and maverick enough to know conventional methods won’t phase a stubborn and wounded Xanatos.
Diane: Sowing distrust of anything that Xan might say in his own defense or else implicating Dooku - the man certainly knows how to play the wounded old Jedi who must leave for his own moral code.
I never quite bought the story that Qui-Gon’s death was the final straw that pushed Dooku away from the Order. I think it was just lucky timing and he’d planned to jet already.

He’s perhaps the only person who’d know how to reach Xanatos. Good thing he was able to put the past behind them.

Chapter Twenty-Five: An Awakening
The trips to the salle continued. Xanatos had begun to dread the daytime hours, never knowing when Jinn was going to pop in. Initial feelings of humiliation had long ago vanished, a burning anger taking its place. It was becoming more and more difficult to remain mute and unresponsive when he longed with every fiber of his being to scream and pummel Jinn until the older man was nothing more than a bloody pulp.
He could no longer even conjure up any interest in deciphering the reasons behind his former mentor’s offensive behavior. It didn’t matter what twisted logic the Jedi Master was using to condone his actions to the Council and Master Milcah. Xanatos only knew that Jinn was in for a rude awakening in the very near future.
The final breaking point came late one evening on the fourth day of what Xanatos had begun to think of as The Jinn Wars. His day had been peaceful for once, Jinn’s presence remaining blessedly absent from the med unit. As bedtime neared, Xanatos allowed himself to relax and brace for the inevitable visit from his nightly tormentors. No sooner had he begun to drift off to sleep then he was rudely jerked back to the surface by the familiar presence of his former mentor. Xanatos remained laying still, keeping his breathing even in hopes that Jinn would mistake him for sleeping and go away. His plan was thwarted, the Jedi Master manipulating his body before once again hefting Xanatos over his shoulder.
The Temple hallways were mostly deserted at this time of evening, the lights dimmed to a lower level. Xanatos glared a hole into Jinn’s back as he was carried toward the salle, only the knowledge that it would be sparsely filled keeping him from striking out at his mentor. As they stepped through the door he was surprised to hear the clash of light sabers, the sound rising in decibel as Jinn deposited him in a chair.
Xanatos ground his teeth together and forced his eyes to remain fixed as Jinn’s large hands rested over his. The Jedi Master’s grip tightened until Xanatos’ own limp fingers curled around the arms of the chair to hold him in place. Once satisfied that he was secure, Jinn squatted down next to him and turned his attention toward the pair who sparred nearby.
“Forgive me for leaving our trip for so late today, Xan. I was busy elsewhere and had already promised Master Okita that I would check in on Ganner's sparring session this evening.”
Xanatos’ interest was peaked by the mention of his best friend, his usual annoyance at Jinn for addressing him as if nothing were out of the ordinary absent for once. Hoping that Jinn’s attention was centered on the two combatants, Xanatos shifted his eyes until the pair was in his line of vision. The instantaneous feeling of joy he experienced at seeing his best friend was just as quickly squashed when he was forced to acknowledge the identity of Ganner's sparring partner.
Jai Maruk. Rival, tormentor and over all pain in the aft quarters. The tall, brooding knight allowed his attention to drift long enough for Xanatos to view the pitying expression shot his direction. Finger nails digging into the arms of the chair, Xanatos allowed the demon voices to fill his head as he watched his nemesis deliver a back-handed slap that snapped Ganner's head back. When the expected reprimand from Jinn never came, Xanatos felt his ire continue to rise. He was helpless, forced to sit and act dumb as his hated rival continued to employ questionable tactics in order to gain the upper hand in the match.
Ganner and Maruk were evenly matched in height and weight but Jai had a slight advantage in experience. That experience became more noticeable as the match wore on, every small misstep Ganner made resulting in a punishing blow from Jai’s elbow or feet. Xanatos could feel the blood boiling in his veins as his friend took a booted foot to the stomach that sent him stumbling back several feet, Jai pursuing him relentlessly. Xanatos felt a bead of sweat travel down the collar of his sleep shirt as he fought to keep from turning toward the silent man beside him and demand to know why the blazes he wasn’t stopping the match.
It became too much to bear when Ganner feinted to avoid what he had thought was going to be an overhead slash, only to have Jai spin around and drive an elbow into his nose. Ganner's gasp of pain was audible as he stumbled backwards, blood seeping from between his fingers as he pressed a hand to his battered face. Jai advanced on him, ‘saber spinning as he sensed an opportunity to win the match.
Xanatos reacted without thought, his body lurching out of the chair as a hoarse cry was torn from his throat. “Stop…!”
Every eye snapped in his direction, surprise quickly turning to concern as Xanatos’ legs refused to bear his weight and folded beneath him. Force enhanced reflexes weren’t enough as Qui-Gon leapt forward in a vain attempt to catch him, his fingers meeting empty air as Xanatos fell face first onto the floor. Ganner took a hurried step in his friend’s direction but was brought up short by a warning glance from Qui-Gon.
“That will be enough, gentlemen. You may leave.”
Jai beat a hasty retreat while Ganner hesitated, clearly torn as he stared down at his friend’s prone form. Qui-Gon willed the younger man to look at him, his gaze reflecting understanding as he tilted his head in the direction of the door.
“I will speak with you tomorrow, Ganner. You had better stop by and have the healers look at that nose.” Qui-Gon’s voice was kind but left no room for disobedience.
Ganner performed a quick bow before striding from the room without a backwards glance. Left alone with his former apprentice, Qui-Gon pondered how best to approach the current situation. The sight of Xanatos’ white knuckled fingers as he desperately fought to find some form of leverage in order to gain his feet brought an unexpected sting to Qui-Gon’s eyes. Clearing his throat he strode forward and grasped his fallen pupil beneath the armpits before dragging him to his feet.
Legs trembling violently, Xanatos grasped a hold of Qui-Gon’s arms for support, eyes that brimmed with accusation locking with his.
“You knew! How long?”
“I’ve suspected for several days now,” Qui-Gon admitted, careful to keep his emotions from being reflected in his voice. “I’m sorry for staging this little play but it was imperative that I reach you. The Council was prepared to send you away if no improvement was made soon.”
Xanatos searched his gaze, confusion causing crinkles to form at the edges of his eyes. “Why? Why have you been hanging around? Trying to help?”
Qui-Gon was careful to keep his expression neutral as he replied with simple honesty. “My heart would not allow me to just walk away.”
Conflicted emotions chased across Xanatos’ pale face before his lips thinned and he took a trembling step backwards. “I am not one of those pitiful life forms you love to save.”
“I am well aware of that. They are no where near as difficult to deal with as you are.” Qui-Gon ignored the younger man’s outraged hiss and moved forward to drape an arm around his shoulders for support. “Let’s get you back to your room. You need your rest and we will have plenty of time to discuss matters.”
Qui-Gon chose to ignore Xanatos’ mutterings which sounded suspiciously like, “Damn evil old man.” Nothing could dampen the feelings of relief and joy he was reveling in as he guided his weary charge back to his room.

Effect of weeks of catatonia and disuse? Or is it a more permanent injury??

Love the staged fight. Very Jedi -- of Jai as well as Ganner. Each playing his part to bring about the healing. Hope Xan learns the truth, and thanks his 'rival', rather than hate him.
BTW, just wanted to say, the pacing in this story is superb. (I went back and read it again from the beginning... )
Just great writing all around!

I agree many times I have thought that about Qui Gon. I am glad that he
did help Xan.
Now Xan must go on to conquer the night. The demons in his dreams
need to be taken away or tamed before he will be
on the way to recovery.
 I am sure that Dooku has yet to play his cards.

Qui-Gon is persistant, and it paid off.
Xanatos has come around, and now he can get the help he deserves.

What a fantastic way to start the day!

Uh, Xan, no one forced you to play possum. 
Another wonderful addition! I'm glad Qui-Gon was able to get through to him, though he had to sneak through the back door since the front door was locked.
