Yay! An update.
You live where tornados are ... wow, too much excitement, I think. Hope no damage anywhere near you.
Love how the story is subtly curving back towards its beginning, which saw Quin and Xan in some kind of fight for their lives. (They ARE going to both make it out of that alive and well, right....?  )
Can't get enough of this story. Throw in all the twists and curves you like.

Glad to hear that the tornado missed you. You do get them a lot.
Great update. I loved that Quin was so stubborn. At least he explained about what he was feeling and seeing. Maybe Xan will finally understand that he might be able to help the kid see through the darkness.
Loved this.
Naturally cynical by nature, Xanatos couldn’t help but wonder if Qui-Gon regretted the time and effort he had put into finding and helping his fallen former apprentice. The Jedi Master had wished him well with his rehabilitation before hurrying off to catch the waiting transport. Xanatos was certain it would be the last time he was paid a visit by Qui-Gon Jinn and the thought left him feeling oddly bereft.
He should let a little of that nature go so that he could see that Qui was quite worried about him.

I love Quin's boldness. I hope Xan can realize what Quin already knows... that their destinies are tied together, and that they can help each other work through the darkness

Stunned by the boy’s audacity, Xanatos could do nothing but stare dumbly at the closed door.
I do believe that Xan may have met his match! 
Maybe Quin will be able to get through the shell of self-recrimination that Xan has erected around himself.

He still has that dang Council to deal with first. 
KELIA: I hope Xanatos will start to trust himself not to turn to the darkside.
I think he has enough people around who can help him but it’s up to him to let them.

Quin is going to have to dig his heels in and be just as stubborn as Xan if he hopes to get what he wants.

Chapter Twenty-Eight- Matters of Concern
The initiate training gym was deserted for the most part this time of the morning, the children in classes scattered throughout the Temple. That would change after the noon meal, the room filling to capacity as the children engaged in a score of light saber and acrobatic exercises. Now however, the room held a solitary figure, the ten year old boy moving with brutal efficiency through a complex series of practice moves with his training ‘saber. He was so engrossed in perfecting each move that he failed to sense the presence of the Jedi Master who took a seat nearby and sat back to watch.
Master Tholme had discovered Quinlan Vos while on a mission to Kiffu and had been impressed by the boy’s prodigious psychometric talent. When the clans had refused to allow him to take young Quinlan to Coruscant to be trained as a Jedi, a settlement had been agreed upon in which Tholme stayed and taught the boy on his home planet. The arrangement had worked well up until the time when Quinlan had been forced to re-live his mother’s murder. At that point Tholme had been forced to return to Coruscant with the boy in an attempt to help him overcome the trauma he had been forced to endure.
It had taken patience and time, but eventually Quinlan had set his feet upon the right path and had begun to flourish in his new environment. Tholme was determined that nothing interfere with his pupil's progress, regardless of what the boy himself might think was best. In retrospect it may have been a mistake to allow the boy to spend so much of his free time visiting the senior padawan, Xanatos Akshay. From everything he had been told, Akshay was mired in his own life and death struggle with the dark side, which was not something Tholme wanted his promising pupil to be exposed to at this stage in his training.
Quinlan became aware of Tholme's presence as the exercise required him to pivot almost violently in the opposite direction, ‘saber brandished above his head. A look of guilt flashed across the boy’s dark skinned features as he powered off the weapon and slowly made his way over to his mentor’s side with the air of a prisoner on his way to a prison barge.
Tholme wasted no time in addressing the reason for his presence. “I understand that you and young Obi-Wan caused a disturbance in class that required the instructor to dismiss you both for the day. Care to tell me about it?”
“We had an argument about…” Dark eyes briefly lifted to gauge his mood before Quinlan continued. “About, Padawan Akshay.”
“And the reason behind this argument was?”
“I found out that Obi-Wan warned Padawan Akshay away from me.”
Tholme studied the boy’s fierce expression and the heat behind his words before responding. “Obi-Wan is your friend and only wants what is best for you. Why would you be angry that he is concerned for your well-being?”
“He doesn’t understand!” The words reverberated in the silence of the room, Quinlan flushing as he bit his lip and looked away from his mentor’s disapproving stare.
“Perhaps you should explain the reason behind your behavior to me.”
Quinlan stared numbly at his hands while he struggled to make Tholme see what was in his heart. “Xanatos is like me. He struggles with the same demons I do. He has faced them head on and somehow walked away. No one, not even you, can understand the fear I have the way he can. I don’t want to be forbidden to speak with him.”
A look of bewilderment clouded the boy’s brown features as he continued to speak his thoughts out loud. “I just don’t understand why everyone is so quick to think the worst of him. I have been inside his skin and seen how he was able to combat things that no one here has ever faced. He would hate for people to know this but deep inside I know he is afraid that people will never be able to forget the past.”
Tholme tucked that information away for later contemplation before addressing the unspoken meaning behind the boy’s words. “What exactly do you expect to come from this friendship with Padawan Akshay?”
Dark eyes shifted to meet his, traces of guilt gleaming in their depths. “I sense that he is the one who can teach me how to handle the darkness I carry inside.”
“You do realize the Council expects me to train you to knighthood?” Tholme was careful to keep his voice steady and non-judgemental.
Quinlan swallowed, lips thinning as if he fought to hold in the words that sprang to the tip of his tongue. Resistance gradually gave way to acceptance, the boy standing to offer Tholme a bow. “It was just a foolish dream. I will go and apologize to Obi-Wan at once.”
More than a little unsettled by the conversation, Tholme stood and made his way to the medical wing with determined strides. The padawan at the desk took one look at his grim visage and led him directly to Akshay’s room before withdrawing. Stepping inside the room, the Jedi Master was greeted with a look of confused surprise from the room's occupant. A quick inventory revealed a tall and whipcord lean body, pale skin and black hair that brushed the collar of the young man’s plain sleep tunic. Deep blue eyes were guarded as Akshay sized him up before breaking the silence.
“May I help you, Master…?”
“Tholme.” Crossing his arms over his chest, Tholme swept the room with a dismissive glance before pinning the young man down with an unrelenting stare. “I am Quinlan Vos’ teacher and have been since he was four. I don’t suppose he has mentioned me during your vists?”
As impossible as it seemed, Akshay’s eyes grew even more shuttered, the shields around him tightening until it was nearly impossible to sense him in the Force. “I’ve only just become aware of my surroundings. Today was actually the first time he and I have spoken for more than a few seconds. I can assure you that I’ve done nothing to encourage his interest in me and did warn him away.”
“Oh, I’m sure that was effective,” Tholme drawled with enough sarcasm to earn himself a narrow-eyed look for his efforts. “Quinlan is a special child and will require a mentor who can aide him in overcoming his shortcomings. Not one who is battling demons of his own.”
A sneer curled Akshay’s lips. “Someone like me you mean?”
Without waiting for a response the young man seemed to gain control of himself and continued in a more civil tone. “You have nothing to worry about, Master Tholme. I know that I will never be suited to training an apprentice, even if the Council would ever allow it, and have no designs on young Vos. I will make it clear to the staff and to Quinlan himself that he is no longer welcome here. Is there anything else?”
Baffled at how and when the conversation had gotten away from him, Tholme hesitated before turning toward the door. “No, that will be all. I just hope you understand that I only have Quin’s best interests at heart. Good day Padawan Akshay.”
A brief glance over his shoulder left him with a vision of a defeated looking Akshay before the door slid shut behind him. Tholme found himself even more conflicted then he had been before entering the room. Something in Xanatos Akshay reminding him of the scarred and traumatized child Quinlan had once been. Making his way slowly down the halls he continued to ponder the situation.

 There seems to be a lot of dark side problems
in the temple. I think Tholme may have been expecting an argument
from Xanatos.

Wow! Well done. Very interesting post, meeting Tholme. I'm hoping someone other than Quin can realize that he and Xan might be able to help each other, as, clearly, everybody seems to think Xan is a danger to Quin.

as if xan doesn't get enough negitive feed back from everyone.
Tholme seems like he understands Xanatos feelings and confusion.

Despite Master Tholme's visit, I don't think Quin will give up a possible friendship with Xan that easily.
If Tholme sees in Xan a young Quin, maybe the force will lead him to give Xan the same encouragement and guidance that he has given to Quinlan.
