Nice post. I particularly like the image of Yoda hovering protectively at the foor of Obi-wan's bed. As well, the compassion present in your Yoda and Qui-Gon characterizations is very real and well written.

The transition from despair to rage in Obi as a survivor is good also, particulalry knowing what he becomes later in the story. I think this works nicely with Obi-wan's character as we know it. I'm tempted to wonder many things about the links to the later parts of the story--but not now:)

Nice story

“Trust the Force.”

“I’m afraid to,” the young man admitted.

“Then trust me, you will,” Yoda said. “Your have the heart of a Jedi and a great Jedi you will be. Do you still have the desire to become a Jedi Knight?”

“It’s all I’ve ever wanted.”

“Then become one you shall.”

I love that. love

Valairy_Scot: Thank you so much, my friend. Yoda is quite determined and I feel that he will get his way... wink Once again, a delightful update for "What the Heart Hides". Your talent truly amazes me. hugs

Fioni: I think that everybody is rooting for Yoda!

Blue_Lightsaber42: Thank you so much. blush I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

bek: With Yoda and Qui-Gon by Obi-Wan's side, the Council isn't going to get very far in it's agenda to escort Obi-Wan out the front doors. Perhaps they'll begin to see what Yoda and Qui-Gon do.

The Council will have their hands full... wink

Only sunshine and blue skies from here...

You think so? thinking I know that they certainly deserve it!

wolf_kenobi: I hope the council meeting goes well. Something tells me that Yoda and Qui will be able to hold their own, but I'm worried that Obi-Wan may not want to defend himself, especially if the elimination of his power is offered.

You could be right. Obi could be his own worst enemy. Sorry to give you something else to worry about! wink Thanks so much for reading.

Gkilkenny: I love how you make me dislike Mace in this one

Why, thank you...I think! laugh

See you in a week (going on hols)

Looking forward to your return! Be safe!

Cole_Kenobi: Ahah, I love how Qui-gon reacted to seeing Obi-wan's destruction of the room, he wasn't worried as to why but how his padawan was.

Obi is Qui's first and only priority now. Thank you so much for your kind words! hugs

Bastet: I'm so impressed that you managed to update both your stories on the same day, jedidas, talk about talented! And of course it makes us readers very happy! Can't wait for more!

That was just by luck...it probably won't happen again for a while. Thanks for reading...I really appreciate your support. happy

silverfighter: That so perfectly describes Obi-Wan. Even though he went through all these trials and somewhat tribulations, he still remained strong. I REALLY want to see what will happen later in his life (hint hint)...

whistling thinking Hmm...I'm still thinking about it.

Hmm, I was just thinking... Where has Plo Koon gone? I hope he isn't stirring up trouble...

Don't worry...he's around...

LilyHobbitJedi: Thanks so much. I'm glad you were able to catch up!

ratna: It seems that the Jedi who want to expel Obi-Wan are actually afraid of the Force. That's not a good thing....

No, it's not... worried

aquamarineblue: Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the story and I am considering continuing it, but it will be set when Obi is Anakin's Master.

Healer_Leona: Mace is just a wee bit hard headed, isn't he? rolling_eyes

Thank you so much for reading this story. I can't tell you how much it means to me. I'm working on the next post. I had to get the next post of "Rememberance" up--I had quite a few anxious readers who said I left them with an evil cliffie... wink

Here's the next post. I hope that you enjoy it. I'm working hard to get another post of "Rememberance" up before the weekend. After Friday, I won't be back on the boards until Wednesday. So, I hope that every one has a Happy Easter and a great weekend! hugs

Part 45

Qui-Gon heard the door open, but he didn’t tear his gaze from Obi-Wan’s sleeping form. He didn’t have to look to know that Master Yoda had entered the room. There was no mistaking the distinguished presence of the grand Master.

“I didn’t expect you back so soon,” Qui-Gon remarked, keeping his voice low, not wanting to disturb the boy.

“Said what I had to say. Nothing more, nothing less,” the ancient Jedi replied.

Qui-Gon watched in amusement as Yoda once again climbed onto Obi-Wan’s bed.

“There are easier ways to get up there,” he chided his mentor.

“That may be so, but keeps me in shape this does.”

The tall Jedi simply nodded as he turned his attention back to his apprentice. He was grateful that Obi-Wan was resting peacefully, but he couldn’t help but wonder how long it would be before the young man’s nightmares would shatter his tranquility.

“Right now, he looks like he doesn’t have a care in the world,” the Jedi Master whispered.

“At rest his mind is, but his soul is in turmoil. Frightened he is of his power,” Yoda announced.

“I don’t blame him.”

“Are you frightened of him?”

“What? Of course not!” Qui-Gon could not believe that Yoda had even considered that possibility. The Jedi Master sighed as he gathered the Force around him. He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, fighting the fatigue that was threatening to overwhelm him.

As the Force flowed through Qui-Gon, he realized that while he wasn’t afraid of Obi-Wan, he was frightened for him. He was worried about the boy’s future. Qui-Gon knew that the odds were stacked against the young man and more importantly, Obi-Wan knew this as well.

The Jedi was brought out of his private musings by Master Yoda’s gentle reprimand.

“Doubt him, you can not,” the tiny Jedi warned.

“I don’t doubt him. It’s everyone else that I doubt. He has so much to offer the Jedi, but I’m afraid that there are those who won’t see his potential."

“Show them he will,” Yoda assured his former pupil.

“You’re right and I will be by his side,” Qui-Gon vowed.

“As will I.”

Qui-Gon and Yoda sat in a companionable silence, each contemplating what the next few days would hold. It was Qui-Gon who finally spoke, wanting an answer to the question that he had pushed to the back of his mind.

“What happened earlier in the other room?” the Jedi inquired. He recalled that Yoda had been unwilling to discuss it in Obi-Wan’s presence, but Qui-Gon could not quench his desire to know the truth.

“Unsure I am,” Yoda replied. “Meditate upon the matter, I must.”

“Mace saw the room as well.”

“Know this I do. Deal with Master Windu, I will.”

Qui-Gon started to press further when Obi-Wan began to stir. He placed a reassuring hand on the boy’s arm.

“Shh. It’s all right. I’m here.”

“M…Master?”

“I’m here. So is Master Yoda.” The Jedi Master lightly squeezed the young man’s arm, hoping that the physical contact would reassure Obi-Wan.

“I knew you both would still be here,” the teen quietly murmured.

“Where else would we be?” Qui-Gon inquired.

“I can think of a lot of other places I’d rather be,” the teen retorted.

Qui-Gon smiled at the boy’s dry wit. He was both surprised and glad that Obi-Wan was able to find a little humor in his situation.

“When you get out of here, we’ll go anywhere you want to,” the Jedi promised.

“Sounds good.”

The Jedi helped the youth sit up, noticing that Obi-Wan still looked exhausted. The dark circles under his eyes were accentuated by his paleness. Grabbing an extra pillow, he carefully placed it behind the teen, making sure that Obi-Wan was comfortable.

“Can I get you anything?” he asked the apprentice.

“Some water, please.”

“Of course.” Qui-Gon poured Obi-Wan a glass of water from the pitcher that sat beside his bed. The Jedi Master had observed the youth’s hands trembling, so he held the glass for the Padawan as Obi-Wan took a sip.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” Qui-Gon sat the glass down and studied his apprentice. He could feel the intense level of tiredness radiating from the teen. There was no way that Obi-Wan would be ready to appear before the Council in just a couple of days. “How are you feeling?”

“I don’t know,” Obi-Wan admitted. “I’m not exactly sure how I’m supposed to feel. Right now, I’m too tired to think.”

“I know the feeling.”

Qui-Gon saw Obi-Wan glance about the room. He sensed the boy’s confusion when he realized that this wasn’t the room he had been in.

“Master Yoda and Master Nathe moved you to a different room,” Qui-Gon explained.

“Oh,” was all Obi-Wan said for a few moments.

The Jedi Master exchanged a worried glance with Yoda. He was disturbed by the teen’s silence, but he didn’t want to place any undue pressure on Obi-Wan to talk. He breathed an inward sigh of relief when the Padawan finally spoke.

“Did you see it?” Obi-Wan wanted to know, worry and fear clouding the boy’s eyes as he waited for his Master’s reply.

Qui-Gon nodded his head. “I saw it.”

“And you still want me to be your apprentice?” the youth asked, disbelief evident in his tone.

“More than anything.”

The Jedi Master smiled at the teen. “Nothing has changed.”

Qui-Gon hoped that Obi-Wan couldn’t sense his own worry and frustration. He didn’t want the boy to feel that he was to blame for the Master’s uneasiness. The Jedi had promised Obi-Wan that everything would be all right and he did not want Obi-Wan doubting his word.

“What time is it?” Obi-Wan inquired.

Glancing at his chronometer, Qui-Gon answered, “It’s almost fifth chime. You’ve been asleep for several hours.”

“I feel like I could sleep for days,” the youth stated.

“Why don’t you go back to sleep?” Qui-Gon suggested.

“Maybe later.”

The Jedi Master watched as Obi-Wan stared at the foot of his bed where Master Yoda was sitting. “What’s going to happen now? “the boy asked.

“In three hours, the Council will convene. We will hear testimonies from all involved, including you. Then a fair decision will be made.”

“How long will this take?”

“Unsure I am. You will not be brought before the Council until Master Nathe releases you from the healer’s wing.”

“I would rather just get it over with,” Obi-Wan said.

“Rest you need. Your time before the Council will come. Patience, young one,” Yoda reminded the teen.

Qui-Gon watched with interest as the elder Jedi and his Padawan exchanged words. One day, he would discover the root of their special relationship. The Jedi found himself hoping that he and Obi-Wan would have that kind of connection as well. He allowed his gaze to follow the tiny Jedi as he patted the teen on the leg and scrambled down off the bed.

“Meditate I must before the Council meeting. See you later, I will.”

The Jedi Master and Padawan both acknowledged the small Master with a slight bow. After Yoda left, Qui-Gon tucked the covers around Obi-Wan, making sure that the young man was warm.

“I guess all we can do now is wait,” Obi-Wan quietly surmised.

“Remember what I told you,” Qui-Gon urged. “You will be a Jedi and you will be a great one.”

The sound of Obi-Wan’s desolate sigh tore at the Jedi Master’s heart. He would not lose faith in himself, his apprentice, or the Force. He had denied the will of the Force years ago and the results had been disastrous, nearly costing Obi-Wan everything including his life. Qui-Gon would not make that mistake again. The Force was clearly telling him that he and Obi-Wan belonged together. Now all he had to do was convince the Council.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Siri sat on the balcony, staring across the horizon as she watched the sun come up. Its brilliant rays were illuminating the dusky sky as the city began to come alive again. She hadn’t been able to sleep and had been out here most of the night. Late last night, she and her Master had been informed that they would be appearing before the Council at eighth chime to answer questions about what happened on that dreadful planet.
In her mind, she wondered what they would ask her. Siri’s greatest fear was saying something that might be damaging to Obi-Wan. She couldn’t bear the thought. The young girl gathered her blanket around her frame to ward off the early morning chill. She sensed her Master’s approach, knowing that Adi would not be pleased to discover that she had been spending the night out here. Siri then realized that Adi was probably already aware of the fact and had respected the apprentice’s desire to be alone.
“Did you sleep at all?” Adi inquired.
“Not after I found out we had to appear before the Council.”
“I don’t think that we have too much to worry about. After all, I wasn’t even present and you were unconscious. Just tell them the facts as you recall them and all will be well.”
“Do you really think so?”
“Yes, I do,” the Master assured. “I would say that Master Jinn’s testimony will be crucial, as well as Master Ru’tan’s and Master Plo Koon’s.”
“Plo Koon?” Siri groaned at the mention of the former Councilor’s name. “He hates Obi-Wan.”
“He will be expected to tell the truth. His past relationship with Obi-Wan will be taken into consideration. I’m sure Master Yoda will see to that.”
“It’s a good thing Obi-Wan’s got Master Yoda on his side,” Siri stated, sighing in frustration. “I just want everything to work out for him.”
“I know you do and I’m sure that the Force will ensure that it does.”
“How many Council members are going to listen to the Force in this case?”
“Siri! Just because you disagree with the Council does not mean that you should be disrespectful.”
Siri hung her head at her Master’s reprimand. “I’m sorry, Master. Forgive me for my outburst.”
“Of course,” Adi replied. “Now, let’s go inside and get ready.”
The Padawan pushed herself to her feet and followed Adi inside. “Master?”
“Yes, Siri?”
“After I get done giving my testimony, can I go and see Obi-Wan?” she asked hopefully.
“Um…it might be a good idea to wait a day or so until he’s stronger.”
“All I want to do is talk to him,” Siri tried to reason.
“I know, but he’s been through a lot and I think his visitors have been restricted.”
“Yes, Master.”
Siri quickly realized that Adi did not approve of her going to see Obi-Wan. After her revelation last night, the girl knew that her Master probably wanted to keep her as far away from the young man as possible. Siri had made it abundantly clear that she would leave the Jedi and go with Obi-Wan should he be dismissed from the Order. She hadn’t meant to hurt her Master with her words, but she had spoken the truth.
She quietly walked to her room to get dressed, determining that sometime today, she would go and see Obi-Wan. Siri needed to talk to him and let him know that Adi was aware of their relationship. If her Master knew of their feelings for each other, Obi-Wan’s Master probably knew as well. She just wanted to see him and make sure that he was all right. He had been past the point of exhaustion on the transport and then Master Nathe had whisked him away to the healer’s wing.
The young girl finished pulling her boots on and then fastened her utility belt. Slipping on her robe, she joined her Master in the living room. They left their quarters and headed towards the Council chambers. She hoped that the Force would be merciful and that the inquisition would be over with quickly. Siri was going to see Obi-Wan today and no one or nothing would stop her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The eighth chime rang and the Council was convened. All the seats were filled with the exception of two. Those were the seats that belonged to Master Gallia and the other one had been the one Plo Koon had occupied. Master Mace Windu spared a fleeting look around the room to make sure that everyone was in their place.

“Are we ready to begin?” he inquired.

“Ready we are,” Yoda replied.

“Our first testimonies will come from Master Adi Gallia and Padawan Siri Tachi,” the dark-skinned Master announced.

The doors opened and all eyes followed the pair as they walked in.

“Padawan Tachi, please wait outside. We will be questioning you and your Master separately,” Mace informed the girl.

He felt the reluctance emanating from the apprentice. Mace knew that she didn’t want to leave her Master, but it was protocol. It wasn’t until Adi gave a slight nod that the Padawan left the chambers. Master Windu watched as his colleague approached the center of the chambers.

“Are you ready to begin, Master Gallia?”

Mace activated his data recorder and asked his first question. He spared a look at Yoda, who was carefully taking in every word. Mace had decided that he would not bring up Master Yoda’s attachment to Obi-Wan Kenobi again, at least not yet. The senior Councilor wanted to get at the truth, but he wasn’t sure the Jedi was prepared to handle the severity of the situation. He would have to convince the remaining Council members that Obi-Wan Kenobi could not be a Jedi.

Yay! I've finally caught up! grin Now, to somehow organize my reactions to five chapters. tongue

Yoda took his gimer stick and connected it with Mace’s shin. “That is not the answer. Obi-Wan did not ask for this power. The Force has placed this burden on him and it is our duty to help him carry it.”

I loved this part. You write Yoda so well and it's always refreshing to see him stand up for Obi-Wan. Besides being one of Obi-Wan's only true advocates, he has a clearer perspective on the situation (oh, Siri would get after me for that) than Qui-Gon or Obi's friends, despite his favoritism.

I loved the scene where Obi-Wan finally wakes up by fighting against the voices of doubt and pushing his way toward his master's voice. Nice imagery there. happy Siri speaking her mind to Mace Windu was priceless. She's fun to watch because we never know where her impulsiveness or her feelings for Obi-Wan are going to take her. wink

“You don’t have to tuck me in, Master,” the teen quietly hinted.

“I know I don’t. Just humor an old man,” Qui-Gon quipped. “Besides, it makes me feel like I’m doing something for you.”

“You’re not old, Master and you already have done something for me.”

“What’s that?” the Master inquired.

“You believed in me when almost no one else did.”

“I will always believe in you, Padawan,” the Jedi stated with conviction.

“Even when I don’t believe in myself?”

“Especially when you don’t believe in yourself,”

I loved this exchange. love It shows their relationship so well.

The ancient Master slowly made his way towards the sleeping apprentice and his ever watchful Master. Grunting as he climbed upon the foot of the bed, he muttered about how almost everything in the Temple was too tall for him. Yoda saw Qui-Gon staring at him with a humorous glint in his eye.

“Find this funny, do you?”

“Of course not, Master,” Qui-Gon replied, a smile still plastered on his face.

“I should order the door ways shortened and see how I feel, you will.”

grin Aww, poor Yoda! This was a great little scene. It endeared me to Yoda even more, if that were possible.

I'm so nervous about these council testimony sessions! And I wonder what Siri will have to say. I hope she doesn't let her feelings run away with her worried (though maybe that's what the Council needs to see) and I hope Mace and the others will be made to see reason, though I understand where their fears are coming from. It's like Yoda said before (five chapters ago or so), the Jedi Order has an obligation teach Obi-Wan to harness his power. Leaving him by the wayside can only result in disaster, for Obi-Wan surely and maybe for the galaxy at large if evil finds him.

Five awesome chapters, jedidas. applause I've arranged for truckloads of chocolate Easter bunnies to arrive at your house early tomorrow morning...to make up for lost time. tongue Happy Easter!

This is an excellent post! Your writing is absolutely superb, jedidas3! applause

I hope Yoda can make the council see sense...... but Mace seems very determined to keep Obi out of the order. Hmmmmmmmmmm, is this because a legitimate concern for the Jedi, or is something more sinister going on here... thinking Maybe I'm just being paranoid tongue

I hope things can work out for Siri and Obi, although its not looking so good. worried

Brilliant job! Looking forward to the next post!!!

((bites nails)) Obi-Wan needs to stop the self-doubt and pity party, I am willing to bet that the Council just might allow him to stay.

The Force was clearly telling him that he and Obi-Wan belonged together.

Uh yeah, they are so very meant to be together! But now, since Obi-Wan is obviously a bit damaged mentally, will all the events that happen to him still happen, or will Qui-Gon not die?

Good update!

Seems Mace might have more against Obi-Wan than just his abilities. sad

It appears to already be starting, Adi trying to keep Siri from Obi-Wan's side. I'm glad that Siri is her own person and doesn't allow others to make choices for her. The two young ones appear to need one another right now. Hopefully their masters will come to understand this.

Wonderful post! grin
