Goodness, Siri and Qui laid it on the line. Compassionate Jedi indeed <snort>.
The Council and the rest of the Jedi just don't get it - they serve the Force. Obi-Wan served, or was used by (not sure) the Force. His "gift" needs to be accepted and trained, not feared.
I never bought the idea of the Order as stale and out of touch in canon (I won't go into why here), but here it was more than clearly demonstrated.
Too funny Qui walking in on Obi and Siri, presumably hugging or perhaps kissing. Love to hear that explanation.

Qui-Gon should probably proceed with caution when dealing with Obi-Wan and Siri's relationship. The two young padawans have already said that they would not allow anyone to come between them again.
Qui-Gon's testimony was one to be proud of!
Mace should probably step down and allow the Council to proceed in this decision without his biased opinions coloring the facts.

RE: The Best of Intentions (Obi-Qui, AU) Sequel to The Truth Shall Set You Free Updated 04/05!
Great update,
jedidas
!
“I think the Council needs to consider what will happen if you don’t help Obi-Wan. You will be showing the other Jedi and everyone else in the Temple that the way of the Jedi is no longer that of compassion, but one of hasty accusations and judgments.”
“Thank you, Padawan Tachi for your opinion,” Mace remarked. “You are dismissed.”
“What?” Siri exclaimed. “That’s it? Did anything I said even remotely melt that cold heart of yours?”
Woohoo! Way to let Windu have it, Siri!
And I loved Qui-Gon's testimony to the Council.
“We don’t need another Xanatos,” Mace stated.
“He is nothing like Xanatos!” Qui-Gon declared. “He puts himself before others and Xanatos never did that. How dare you even suggest that? Obi-Wan’s heart is pure, but his soul has been tainted by the life that he has lived. I realize that part of that is my fault. If I had listened to the Force back then, we wouldn’t be here today. So, if you want to punish anybody, punish me.
“No matter what this Council says, I will train Obi-Wan, with or without your blessing. If I have to take him away from the Temple, so be it. I just hope that you are prepared to accept the consequences of your decision.”
“Our decision will be final,” Mace advised the Jedi Master. “And you will abide by our edict.”
“Only if your decision is to allow Obi-Wan to remain in the Temple,” Qui-Gon defiantly answered.
“I said…”
“I don’t care what you said, Master Windu. I think I’ve made myself perfectly clear.”
Yay, Qui-Gon! How dare Mace suggest that Obi is anything like Xanatos?!
But now the truth is out!
He saw Obi-Wan and Siri exchange worried glances. Qui-Gon had just spent a better part of an hour defending his apprentice to the Council and now he had apparently caught him in a situation that would be a strict violation of the Jedi Code. The Jedi had seen the way that Obi-Wan and Siri had looked at each other. He knew that expression all too well. It was the look of two people who were hopelessly in love.
Uh oh! I hope Qui can be understanding with this, and not let it drive a wedge between them.
I most definitely can't wait for more!

Qui-Gon's speech was very well done. Got right to the heart of the matter.
Then he runs smack dang into the heart of another matter. Ah, youth...

Bravo Bravo, I loved the way you allowed Qui-Gon to put Mace in his place.
Siri was a bit more bolder than she should have been, she still has to face them for her stealing a spaceship. Be careful Siri.
That was priceless, Qui-Gon springing his apprentice with Siri, I wonder what their explanation will be.
They might have to change the rule about attachments too.
well done

Wow. What a triple whammy. First Siri, way to go girl! Loved how she evaded Mace's questions and didn't verbablly condem both her and Obi-wan's relationship. And yes, indeed, I did enjoy Qui-gon's speech. Very true words, and I love how he would leave with Obi-wan if it came down to it. Poor Mace, I actually feel a twinge of sympathy for the man, having to deal with two very bold and stubborn Jedi, then add in Yoda, lol.
Oh, Obi-wan, I think now would be the perfect time to be honest with Qui-gon. I'm sure Qui-gon is feeling a little bit of betrayl, not much but enough to feel disappointed with Obi-wan.
Awesome update.

*Smack Siri on the head*
Arg, if she had just kept her mouth shut right before the very end, she would had won that contest. Grrrrrr
As for Obi Wan....he needs some girl love. Sorry Jedi Order and Qui Gon, but a master's love just isn't enough.
Good chapter!

Awesome post!
Siri and Qui's testimony to the Council was brilliant! Way to go!
The Council members definitely aren't acting like the compassionate Jedi they're supposed to be
... except for Yoda.
Oh dear... Qui walking in on Obi and Siri.... this ought to be interesting
Looking forward to the next post!

One explanation coming up...of course I'm not sure if it is what Qui-Gon wants to hear. As always my friend, thank you for reading!
bek:

Caution should be used indeed!
Mace should probably step down and allow the Council to proceed in this decision without his biased opinions coloring the facts.
That may be a possiblity. Of course, I'm not sure that he will agree...but then again, you never know. Thanks so much for reading. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!
Bastet:
Uh oh! I hope Qui can be understanding with this, and not let it drive a wedge between them.

Part 48
Obi-Wan was sitting in his bed, anxiously waiting for his Master’s return. Glancing at the chronometer on the wall, the youth realized that it had only been almost half an hour since Qui-Gon had left word that he was being summoned by the Council. He couldn’t help but worry about the Jedi as he faced the members of the Council, especially Master Windu. Obi-Wan sighed. Would he ever understand the reasons that the senior Councilor seemed to dislike him?
He leaned back against his pillow and closed his eyes. Master Nathe had finished running a myriad of tests and had ordered him to rest. Obi-Wan found sleep to be elusive. The teen wanted to be by his Master’s side, not hiding away in the healer’s wing like some invalid. Sitting up, he threw the covers off of him and swung his legs around, allowing them to dangle over the side of the bed.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Obi-Wan looked up and the sound of the familiar voice. He smiled at the beautiful blonde girl standing in the door. He cleared his throat and mustered a sheepish grin as he tried to think of an acceptable explanation.
“I…um…well, I was…” he stammered.
“You were what? Getting out of bed without permission from Master Nathe?”
“Something like that.”
“Well, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you can just get right back into bed.” Siri walked over and to the side of the bed, crossed her arms, and waited for the young man to comply with her instructions.
“I just wanted to go and see about Qui-Gon. He’s facing the Council right now and I should be by his side,” Obi-Wan tried to reason.
“Master Jinn can handle the Council. Now, you get back in bed or else I’m going to call Master Nathe in here and he will make sure you stay in bed.”
“But I don’t need to be here,” the teen protested, “I’m not sick.”
“Maybe not,” she replied. ‘However, you are exhausted and you need to rest.”
He reluctantly swung his legs back onto the mattress and watched as Siri began pulling his covers up around him and tucking him in. Obi-Wan pushed the blankets down to his waist but once again, she was pulling them up around his chest.
“Would you stop?” an exasperated Obi-Wan pleaded. He didn’t mean to sound so short with Siri, but her constant mothering was beginning to get on his nerves.
“Sorry,” she muttered, turning on her heels to leave.
“Siri, don’t leave. I’m sorry I snapped at you. It’s just that I’m tired of being here and I’m nervous about Master Jinn going before the Council and I’m…”
He hushed when Siri placed her fingertips on his lips. “It’s all right. I understand.”
“You always did.”
Obi-Wan scooted over in the bed and patted the mattress. “Come sit with me.”
“I can’t stay long,” Siri informed the boy as she sat down. “My Master doesn’t know I’m here.”
“She doesn’t want you to see me.”
“She just didn’t think it was a good idea right now. She said that you needed to rest. But, I had to see you. I just had to make sure that you were all right.”
“I’m fine,” he mumbled.
He leaned into her hand as she cupped his face. “Are you sure?”
“No,” he admitted. “But I’ve got to think positive, right? Everybody tells me that everything will be all right and that I just have to believe. It’s hard to believe in something when you’re not sure what it is you’re supposed to believe in.”
“What do you mean?” she softly asked.
“I don’t know. I’m supposed to believe in the Force, but I’m not sure why. I’m supposed to believe in my Master and the Jedi Code, but I’m not sure why.”
Sensing that he was making Siri uneasy, he reached up and took her head. Obi-Wan gently kissed the palm of her hand and then graced her with another smile. “I’m just rambling on. I think my biggest problem is that I’ve been laying here with too much time to think.”
“Do you believe in me?”
Still holding her hand in his, he took his other hand and tucked her hair behind her ear. “You’re the one constant in my life. How can I not believe in you?”
Obi-Wan could smell the sweet fragrance of her hair as she snuggled against his chest. He wanted nothing more than to be able to hold her forever. The teen purposely blocked everything else out of his mind, except his thoughts of Siri. “I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you, too. What are we going to do?” she wanted to know, a hint of desperation in her voice.
“I don’t know. We’ll think of something.”
He lifted her chin until she was looking in his eyes. Leaning down, he kissed her delicate lips. As their passion began to grow, their desire for each other did as well. The two Padawans failed to hear the door open until it was too late.
Obi-Wan wasn’t sure why Siri had pulled away from him until he looked up at the imposing figure standing in his room. His Master’s expression was one of shock and disbelief as the Jedi made his way to his bed side.
“Do you care to explain what’s going on?” Qui-Gon asked him.
Glancing at Siri, he wasn’t sure what to say. Slightly nodding his head, he motioned for Siri to leave. She shook her head no, indicating to him that she planned to stand by his side. He looked back to his Master, knowing the Jedi was waiting patiently for an answer.
“I uh…we were just talking,” Obi-Wan finally said.
“It didn’t look like you were saying much to me. In fact, it’s kind of difficult to speak with your lips pressed against Padawan Tachi’s.”
Obi-Wan blushed at his Master’s blunt description of what he had seen. “I…uh…”
“Do you know what you’re doing? You’re risking everything, Padawan. I just spent the last hour convincing the Council that you should stay in the Jedi Order and you’re here in the healer’s wing breaking the Jedi Code. What are you thinking?”
He stared at his Master as Qui-Gon rubbed a hand over his weary face.
“Padawan Tachi, you are dismissed,” Qui-Gon remarked. “I expect you to take this matter up with your Master.”
“Yes, Master Jinn,” Siri humbly replied. “May I say just one thing?”
“I don’t think now is a good time, Padawan.”
“Yes, Master.”
Obi-Wan watched Siri as she left. When she got to the door, she turned back and mouthed the words, ‘I love you,’ to him. He smiled at the young girl as she palmed open the door. Once the door closed, he turned his attention back to Qui-Gon who sat in the chair beside his bed.
“I have seen this coming for a while,” Qui-Gon said. “I should have addressed the problem earlier and put a stop to it before it escalated to this point.”
“You can’t change our feelings for each other. This isn’t some passing infatuation. I’ve loved her for a long time and our love has grown stronger over the years, despite the obstacles that have been placed in our way.”
“I think I figured that out when I walked in here today. But the fact remains that attachment is forbidden.”
“They can change the rules.”
“They haven’t changed the rules in thousands of years. The Council will not change the law to accommodate one person.”
“Really? It seems to me that they’ve been doing that ever since I can remember. They changed the rules to protect Elad; in fact, they do what they damn well please.”
“Language, Padawan,” Qui-Gon warned.
Nonplussed, Obi-Wan continued his rant, the tension in his voice rising with every word. “You must feel this way, or you wouldn’t defy them so much. They sit up there in that room, making decisions based on what they want to do instead of this precious Code that they seem to want to throw in everybody’s face.”
“Obi-Wan,” Qui-Gon interjected. “You need to calm down.”
“I need to calm down? I don’t think so. You just spent an hour trying to talk to them and do you think that you’ve convinced them that I should stay? Probably not. The only ones who think I belong in this Order is you and Master Yoda. I don’t even think I belong here!”
Obi-Wan grabbed his head with his trembling hands. It was happening again. “Master!” he cried out.
He felt Qui-Gon’s strong hands on his shoulders. “Obi-Wan! Look at me!” the Jedi ordered.
“I can’t.”
“Open your eyes and look at me,” Qui-Gon repeated a bit more forcefully.
Obi-Wan managed to open his eyes and found himself staring into his Master’s concerned face. The teen was losing control and it was frightening him as well as Qui-Gon.
“I want you to breathe deeply,” the Jedi Master instructed.
“I can’t,” the teen gasped.
“You can do this. Breathe deeply.”
Obi-Wan began to slow down his breathing while forcing his eyes to remain fixed on his Master. He could feel the tremors beginning to subside as well as the surge of power that had been threatening to erupt. After a few more minutes, he collapsed into Qui-Gon’s arms.
“I’m sorry, Master,” he whispered into the Jedi Master’s robe. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s all right. We’re going to work through this. I promise you.”
The teen nodded as he pulled away from his Master’s grasp and lay back against his pillow. “I still love Siri and I can’t give her up,” he quietly stated.
“I know you do. But, if you love her, you may have to give her up,” Qui-Gon countered.
Unable to keep his eyes open, the teen shook his head, mumbling under his breath as he drifted off. “I can’t. Please don’t make me.”
“The decision will have to be yours and Siri’s,” Qui-Gon said.
Obi-Wan wasn’t sure what else the Jedi Master said as he allowed sleep to claim him. He knew that Qui-Gon would be sitting by his side when he woke up and that the conversation was far from over. The teen just hoped that he could talk to his Master as he deserved to be spoken to, not in the disrespectful manner that he had exhibited earlier. Qui-Gon had his best interests in mind and the youth was aware of that. He still wanted to be a Jedi, but his insecurities were getting in his way. The only thing that he was sure of in his life was the one thing that he was being told that he couldn’t have. Perhaps things would look better after he woke up; Obi-Wan didn’t think that they could get any worse.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After making sure that Obi-Wan was asleep, the Jedi Master pressed the call button to summon Master Nathe and then sat back down in his chair. That had been close. Obi-Wan had become emotional, seeming to trigger the Force to channel itself once again. Qui-Gon had seen the look on his apprentice’s face. It was the same look that he had seen right before the boy had confronted Xanatos.
Qui-Gon knew that he couldn’t contain the teen’s power, so his only option was to try and talk him down. The Jedi had his doubts that he could help the boy, but after a few minutes, Obi-Wan had managed to gain control. He shuddered to think what would have happened if the teen had destroyed the healer’s wing.
The Jedi had been satisfied with his appearance before the Council, feeling that he had said everything that wanted to say. When he entered Obi-Wan’s room, the shock of discovering his apprentice kissing Padawan Tachi was overwhelming. He had overreacted and immediately put Obi-Wan on the defensive. Qui-Gon sighed. The Jedi was beginning to worry what was going to happen when his Padawan had to face the Council.
He turned his head at the sound of the door opening. Qui-Gon nodded a silent greeting to Master Nathe.
“It almost happened again,” he said. “This time it would have been the healer’s wing.”
He silently watched as Nathe checked the boy’s vitals. “It takes a lot out of him, doesn’t it?”
“Yes, it does,” Qui-Gon answered. “He’ll probably sleep awhile.”
“That’s what he needs,” the healer agreed. “I’ll be back later to check on him. Let me know if there is any change.”
“I will. By the way, have you gotten any of his test results back?”
“I’m still waiting on a couple. I’ll let you know as soon as I do.”
“Thank you.”
Qui-Gon’s attention was once again focused on the sleeping form of his Padawan. He heard the door open and knew that the healer had left them alone. Placing his hand on Obi-Wan’s arm, the Jedi sent waves of encouragement and comfort across their bond, hoping that his presence would help the youth sleep. After a few minutes, he closed his own eyes, seeking the guidance of the Force, hoping that it would provide him with the answers to his questions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Siri sat on her bed, waiting for her Master to return. She couldn’t believe that she and Obi-Wan had let their guard down and had been caught by Master Jinn. She loved Obi-Wan Kenobi and heloved her. So, what was the problem? The problem was that their feelings were forbidden and now she had a feeling that their respective Masters would do everything in their power to keep them apart.
She heard the outside door open and she swallowed nervously. Had Master Jinn already told Master Gallia what happened?
“Siri?” Adi called out.
Siri pushed herself up off the bed and went into the common area. She couldn’t hide her distress from her Master. The girl studied the floor as Adi approached her.
“Siri? Are you all right?” Adi inquired.
“No, I’m not,” she whispered.
“What’s wrong?”
Siri looked up with tears in her eyes. Not only did she have to tell her Master that she had been caught kissing Obi-Wan, but she had to tell her that she had disobeyed her by going to see him. She was discovering that love often came with a very high price.

In the end, Qui-Gon realized a lot - most importantly, he can help Obi-Wan.

RE: The Best of Intentions (Obi-Qui, AU) Sequel to The Truth Shall Set You Free Updated 04/10!
Sorry I got behind again. It seemed that as soon as I decided to take a break from the computer for a bit, everyone decided to update their stories.
I printed out the last update and was reading it last night while I waited for my mom to finish teaching a class... I must have looked so funny, sitting there and laughing out loud when Siri told Mace he had a cold heart!
“I’m just rambling on. I think my biggest problem is that I’ve been laying here with too much time to think.”
Stars, I know how it is.
((paces)) They're going to leave the Jedi, aren't they? They're going to get married and not be Jedi!
Wonderful updates.

Eeep. Things do not look good for Obi-Wan's relationship with Siri, and his future with the Jedi.
Excellent post!

Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God. -Epicurus
