Whew, that was a close one! Good thing Qui-Gon was able to calm Obi down before he blew up the healer's wing. love

I don't think Adi is going to be too happy once Siri says what she has to say. shame_on_you

And poor Qui-Gon, now he's got another trouble added to the long list he's already got. sad

Great update, jedidas, as usual! grin

“This Council used to be known for its compassion. Somewhere along the way, we’ve lost our purpose. If we let him, Obi-Wan Kenobi could very well help us find it again.”

I think Adi Gallia hit the issue on the head here. Obi-Wan is the key. If only the Council would listen!

“I think the Council needs to consider what will happen if you don’t help Obi-Wan. You will be showing the other Jedi and everyone else in the Temple that the way of the Jedi is no longer that of compassion, but one of hasty accusations and judgments.”

Siri shows wisdom beyond her years here, but unfortunately the Council probably won't give credence to the testimony of a young girl, even if she is one of the only voices of reason and openmindedness.

“Siri? Are you all right?” Adi inquired.

“No, I’m not,” she whispered.

“What’s wrong?”

Siri looked up with tears in her eyes. Not only did she have to tell her Master that she had been caught kissing Obi-Wan, but she had to tell her that she had disobeyed her by going to see him. She was discovering that love often came with a very high price.

I can't believe they got caught! shock Just what they need to complicate matters, and I really feel for Qui-Gon. Here he is fighting so hard for Obi-Wan, while Obi-Wan doesn't even really want the help, or at least isn't showing it. Love for a Jedi has a very high price indeed. sad

I forgot about the "evil, shadowy figure man" until Qui-Gon mentioned him. Of course, he'll probably show up again at just the wrong time and make matters even *worse*.

applause Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

It was good that Qui-Gon was able to help Obi-Wan calm down; they avoided a major incident by working through it together. An incident I'm sure Mace would have used to his advantage in evicting Obi-Wan from the Temple. That should be enough to show the council that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan not only work well together as Master/Padawan but that the boy trusts Qui-Gon enough to allow him to help him. And also, that Qui-Gon is able to teach Obi-Wan (with Yoda's help most likely) how to control this burden the force has placed on him. Obi-Wan's gift is manageable given the right circumstances and the right people helping. happy

I think Qui-Gon leaving the decision up to Obi-Wan and Siri as to their feelings for one another was the right approach. It gives the padawans a choice they never had before; if they decide to be good friends for now instead of something more, it would be a decision they made and not one that was forced upon them. Thereby, leaving no hard feelings toward anyone else.

You continue to amaze me with your writing. Can't wait for the next post! grin

obi-Wan certainly needs to learn to curtain his powers and control them better. Plus he needs to understand that the Code isn't going to be changed just because he wants it to be.

Great job!

Another nice one. Looking forward to seeing how, and if, Siri reconciles with herself, Adi and Obi-Wan. The council doesn't seem very Jedi, in this case. Some of them seem out-right protectionist;) Yoda continues to be Yoda, though, and that is a good thing.

Valairy_Scot: In the end, Qui-Gon realized a lot - most importantly, he can help Obi-Wan.

Qui-Gon really needed to see that. Thank you so much for all your support! hugs

silverfighter: Don't worry about being behind. This week has been one of those that I'm so far behind, it isn't funny.

((paces)) They're going to leave the Jedi, aren't they? They're going to get married and not be Jedi!

Now, I didn't say that. I think that you'll be satisifed with the ending. I'm not going to guarantee that on "Remembrance." wink

Tatooine_Ghost: Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! grin

wolf_kenobi: Well, I can tell you that the ending will be fairly happy. Thanks for your kind words! hugs

Blue_Lightsaber42: You guys tell Mace! Grr, I need to recomend Mace to a counslor.

laugh

Don't worry, Mace will be doing some soul searching! Thank you so much for reading.

Cole_Kenobi: Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words! blush

Gkilkenny: I wonder how you are going to fix their relationship.

You'll just have to wait and see! wink

Bastet: And poor Qui-Gon, now he's got another trouble added to the long list he's already got.

Yep...but of course, he'll handle it like the Jedi he is! wink

Nienna_Narmolanya: It's good to hear from you! Hope things are going well!

I can't believe they got caught! Just what they need to complicate matters, and I really feel for Qui-Gon. Here he is fighting so hard for Obi-Wan, while Obi-Wan doesn't even really want the help, or at least isn't showing it. Love for a Jedi has a very high price indeed.

Oh, believe me, he's got his hands full.

I forgot about the "evil, shadowy figure man" until Qui-Gon mentioned him. Of course, he'll probably show up again at just the wrong time and make matters even *worse*.

The good news is that there are no plans for him to come around in this part. You might see him down the road, though... worried

bek: Obi-Wan's gift is manageable given the right circumstances and the right people helping.

Hopefully, the council will figure that out!

I think Qui-Gon leaving the decision up to Obi-Wan and Siri as to their feelings for one another was the right approach. Thereby, leaving no hard feelings toward anyone else.

You'll just have to wait and see if they make the right decision...

You continue to amaze me with your writing.

I hope you know that the feeling is mutual. hugs

dianethx: Thank you, Master. blush I couldn't do it without you!

Healer_Leona: Qui-Gon has discovered that as well. Thank you so much for reading. It means a lot to me! hugs

JediKaren: blush Thank you!

Qui-Gina-Jinn: Ok, first of all I want to say that I'm really really sorry for not keeping up with your wonderful story. I hope you can forgive me...

It's so good to hear from you. There is nothing to forgive. I know how crazy RL can be! I'm just glad that you're still here and are still enjoying this story! hugs

aquamarineblue: Yoda continues to be Yoda, though, and that is a good thing.

You gotta love Yoda! love

Thank you all so much for continuing to read this story. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! RL has been really crazy this week and it will probably be Monday before I get the next post up. I apologize, but sometimes things can't be helped. Thanks for your patience!

Part 46

The Council members had taken a short recess after the testimony of Master Jinn. Mace Windu stared out at the panoramic view of the city, silently wishing that he was far away from the Jedi Temple. The whole situation with Obi-Wan Kenobi was beginning to wear on his nerves. He had just listened to Padawan Tachi and Qui-Gon Jinn fervently defend the boy to the Council. They had also insinuated that he was heartless and lacked compassion for what Obi-Wan had endured. Whether or not he wanted to admit it, those words had cut him to the core. He believed that he always had the interests of the Jedi Order foremost in his mind.

“Far away are your thoughts.”

Mace did not turn to acknowledge the ancient Master, but continued to stare out the window. “Not really,” the Jedi Master finally replied. “I was just wishing that I was far away.”

“You are where you’re supposed to be,” Yoda stated with confidence.

“So, tell me Yoda, do you believe that I’m heartless?” Mace asked, his voice etched with bitterness.

“It is not what I think that matters. What do you believe?”

The Korun Master thought for a moment before answering. “I never considered myself to be that way. I recognize that I strictly adhere to the Jedi Code and I will protect the Jedi Order at all costs. I don’t think that makes me heartless and cold.”

“See yourself through your own eyes, you do. Look through a child’s eyes and what do you see?”

“I don’t understand.”

“That is your problem. You don’t try to understand. Bound by the Code we are, but more importantly, we are bound by the Force and must follow its will.”

“Surely you don’t think that the Force has us all following the same path,” Mace exclaimed.

“Only on the things that truly matter. Too important to the Jedi this boy is.”

“I don’t know why you keep saying that. He is no more important than anyone else and to set him apart would only inflate his ego.”

“No bigger than yours it would be,” the tiny Master retorted. “An ego the child does not have. A humble spirit that wants to serve, he is. He can not fight against the ignorance and short sightedness of others, not alone. Our help he needs.”

“So I keep being reminded. What if he doesn’t want our help?”

“Begging for help, he is,” Yoda countered. “Deaf we have become.”

Mace sighed and returned his gaze to the busy airways of Coruscant. “I will listen to what Padawan Kenobi has to say. He will have an opportunity to convince me and the other members of the Council why he should remain with the Jedi.”

The dark skinned Master slightly flinched when Yoda firmly tapped his gimer stick against the floor, accentuating every word he spoke.

“The only reason you need is that it is the will of the Force that the boy stay among the Jedi! Cast aside your opinions and listen to the Force! Obstinate you are being!”

“I’m just being cautious,” Mace replied defensively.

He heard the elder Jedi sigh in frustration. Mace did not like arguing with Yoda; they had been through much together. However when it came to Obi-Wan Kenobi, they had always been on opposite sides. He hoped that after all this was over, that he and Yoda would be able to reclaim their friendship. Only time would tell.

“We better reconvene the Council. We still have several testimonies to hear. Do you know when Padawan Kenobi will be able to testify?”

“When Master Nathe releases him.”

“And when will that be?” Mace inquired.

“I do not know. When he is satisfied that Obi-Wan is strong enough.”

It was Master Windu’s turn to sigh. “Very well,” he finally consented. “We will reconvene in five minutes.”

“Go ahead without me,” Yoda instructed as he turned to leave the Council chambers.

“What? Where are you going?”

“Need me you do not. A visit I need to make.”

“You’re going to see Padawan Kenobi, aren’t you?” Mace’s tone was accusatory as he questioned his old friend.

“Yes. Something you have to say about it?” the small Jedi challenged.

“No, Master Yoda. How long will you be?”

“I’ll be back in time for Master Plo Koon’s testimony. If you need me before that, know where I will be, you do.”

Mace watched Yoda as he made his way through the doors and down the corridor to the lifts. Was Yoda right? Was he blind and deaf to what the Force was telling him? That was impossible, he finally surmised. He had a deep connection with the Force and surely it would give him the guidance that he needed. Of course, he couldn’t honestly say that he had been seeking its guidance in this matter.

He pushed these thoughts to the back of his mind as the other members of the Council began to enter the room. Taking his seat, he glanced around the room as he waited for the others to follow suit.

“Master Yoda will be joining us shortly,” he announced. “Is everyone ready? If so, we will hear from Master Tahl.”

Sitting back in his chair, he waited patiently for Tahl to enter the room. The seeds of doubt began to creep back into his thoughts. What was he looking for? Was he seeking the truth or was he trying to find a reason to dismiss Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Order? Again, he tried to push these thoughts to the back of his mind. He realized that he was going to have to meditate and release these doubts to the Force, but Mace wasn’t sure that these doubts would simply go away with meditation.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adi ushered her apprentice over to the couch, where they both sat down. She could feel the turmoil inside of the young girl as she patiently waited for Siri to begin. Whatever was on Siri’s mind was obviously causing her great distress. The Jedi Master gently rubbed the Padawan’s back, hoping that the simple gesture would soothe the girl.
“Talk to me, Siri,” Adi quietly urged.
“I…I…disobeyed you, Master,” Siri stammered.
“What do you mean?” the Master inquired.
“I went to see Obi-Wan.”
Adi stared at the girl in disbelief. She had a feeling that the reason that Siri was upset had to do with the young man.
“I see,” the Jedi finally answered. “So, you went to see Obi-Wan and what happened?”
“I went there and he was trying to get out of bed. I helped him back into bed and we were just talking. Before we knew it, we were kissing. We were kissing when Master Jinn came in.”
“He caught you?”
“Yes, Master. I didn’t plan…”
“You didn’t plan on getting caught, did you? You thought that you could disobey me and go see Obi-Wan and that I would never find out.”
“I’m not sure what I thought, Master,” The blonde Padawan whispered, as she brushed a stray tear from her cheek.
“Don’t tell me that, Padawan. You are an intelligent young woman and you knew exactly what you were doing. I don’t understand the hold that he has on you.”
“He doesn’t have a hold on me,” Siri exclaimed. “We love each other.”
“Siri, you are too young. He’s too young. He has enough things to worry about without adding the extra burden of a forbidden relationship. Neither one of you can’t afford to be distracted right now. If he loved you, he wouldn’t put you in this position,” the Master pointed out. “He would recognize how important becoming a Jedi is to you and he should let you go.”
“Becoming a Jedi is all I’ve ever wanted, but we have something special and it is something that we can not simply throw away or hide.”
“Which do you want more? Do you want to become a Jedi Knight or do you want a life with Obi-Wan? Before you answer, consider this. What happens if things don’t work out between the two of you the way you thought they would? What then? You’ve given up the life that you’ve worked so hard for and for what?”
The Jedi knew that the young girl didn’t have an answer to the questions that she had posed. Adi had given Siri something to consider and sincerely hoped that she would search her heart and discover the path that she needed to follow.
“For disobeying me, you are restricted to quarters,” she informed the girl. “You are also not to have any contact with Obi-Wan Kenobi until I give you permission. I think that you both need time to evaluate your priorities.”
“But Master,” Siri began to protest.
Adi raised her hand to indicate that she would not tolerate any form of disrespect. “I have given you my decision. Now I suggest you go to your room and begin your meditations. I’m going to go and talk with Qui-Gon.”
“Yes, Master.”
The Jedi watched as Siri rose from the couch and headed to her room. She hated having to punish her Padawan, but disobedience was one thing that she could not tolerate. Adi wondered what advice Qui-Gon had given to Obi-Wan. She hoped that her friend would not give in to the young man, but would help him realize what a mistake it would be to continue the relationship between Obi-Wan and Siri.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Qui-Gon turned to see who was coming in Obi-Wan’s room. He smiled at the tiny figure that was hobbling across the tiled floor. He was grateful that Master Yoda was wanting to help Obi-Wan and once again wondered why this boy was so special to the wizened Jedi Master.

“I was wondering when you would show back up,” Qui-Gon teased.

“Taking a break I am. Crowded the chambers were becoming.”

The Jedi Master reached down to help Master Yoda up onto the foot of Obi-Wan’s bed. “How long has he been asleep?”

“Not too long.” Qui-Gon studied his calloused hands for a few seconds before he decided to tell Master Yoda about what had happened. “He had another episode a few minutes ago, but I was able to calm him down before any damage occurred.”

“Do you know what caused it?” the Grand Master asked.”

“He was…upset,” the tall Jedi admitted.

“About what?”

Qui-Gon pinched the bridge of his nose. Did he tell Yoda about Obi-Wan and Siri’s relationship or did he just keep that information to himself? Knowing that Master Yoda was waiting for an answer, he quickly decided not to reveal anything about the two Padawans just yet.

“I think that not knowing what his future holds is beginning to get to him. He’s…frustrated with everything and coupled with his fatigue, I believe it just became too much. I was able to calm him down and he drifted off to sleep.”

“Sense there is more I do,” Yoda pressed.

The tall Jedi shook his head in amazement at the diminutive Master. “You’re right. But I would appreciate the opportunity to deal with this myself.”

“Trust your judgment I will. I am here if you need me.”

“Thank you, Master.” Qui-Gon glanced at Obi-Wan, who was beginning to stir. “It looks like he’s waking up.”

Qui-Gon watched as Yoda moved closer and sat by the youth’s side. As Obi-Wan’s eyes fluttered open, the Jedi Master could feel the fear radiate off the apprentice. He rose up as Yoda placed a hand on the young man’s trembling arm.

“What is it, Obi-Wan?” Qui-Gon anxiously inquired. “What’s the matter?”

“I don’t know. I guess…I wasn’t sure where I was. I was dreaming that I was being held in a dark room and…never mind. It was silly. I’m fine,” the teen assured his Master.

“Obi-Wan, don’t shut me out. Tell me about your dream,” the Jedi master urged.

He and Yoda waited for the youth to slow his breathing down and calm the tremors in his hands. Qui-Gon was glad that Obi-Wan was not being defensive and seemed to be willing to share his dream. It was just taking him a few moments to center himself. Qui-Gon decided that he could wait forever if he had to. His apprentice was about to trust him with something very precious. It was a testimony to how much stronger their bond was growing.

“I was in a dark room and I was alone. I didn’t have the Force. I didn’t have anything.”

“Do you think it is something from your past?” Qui-Gon asked.

“No. I was never in a place like that. There was always some kind of light. But this time, it’s just darkness and I can hear a voice, but I can’t make out what it’s saying.” Obi-Wan swallowed hard. “That’s all I remember.”

Qui-Gon looked at Yoda, whose gaze was studying the young man. “What do you think, Master Yoda?”

“Meditate on this, I will.”

“It was probably just a stupid dream,” Obi-Wan interjected, obviously not wanting to make a big deal out of something he couldn’t even explain.

“We dream for a reason,” Yoda stated. “A purpose there is. A vision it could be.”

“I don’t want to have visions on top of whatever else I have. The Council would just love to hear about that, wouldn’t they?” the teen challenged.

“Tell them I will not. We will keep this between us,” the senior Jedi vowed.

“Thank you, Master Yoda.”

Qui-Gon nodded his thanks as well. Turning his attention back to his apprentice, he handed the boy a glass of water.

“Are you thirsty?”

“Thank you, Master.”

The Jedi Master helped the young man hold the glass as he took a sip of water. Setting the glass back down, Qui-Gon sat back down and watched the apprentice and Master Yoda as the conversation turned to how the boy was feeling. There was something unique about the bond between Obi-Wan and Yoda and Qui-Gon felt a twinge of jealousy. He tamped that feeling down and watched the two of them with great interest.

“How are you feeling?” Yoda asked.

“I’m all right. I just want to get out of here.”

“In a hurry to face the Council, are you?”

“I’m ready to get it over with. They’ve probably made up their minds. Nothing I can say will change it.”

“Do not be too sure. Two great defenders you have had in Padawan Tachi and in your Master. Do not underestimate the power of the spoken word,” the elder Jedi warned.

Qui-Gon smiled at the young man when he looked over at him. He was always thankful when Obi-Wan would return his smile. There was something about the teen’s slight grin that would melt the coldest heart. He should know, it had melted his.

“Have faith, Padawan,” Qui-Gon advised the youth. “Not only in your friends and the Force, but in yourself as well.”

“I’ll try, Master. It’s just difficult,” the apprentice reasoned.

“I know it is, but you can do it.”

The Jedi Master saw Obi-Wan nod in agreement, although he was aware of the fact that his apprentice wasn’t totally convinced. Qui-Gon couldn’t blame him for his lack of faith, especially in the Council.

“I’d like to go ahead and offer my testimony,” Obi-Wan announced.

Qui-Gon’s eyes narrowed at the suggestion. “I think that you better wait for Master Nathe to say that it is all right.”

“He’ll keep me here forever,” the teen complained.

“He’ll just keep you here until you’re strong enough to testify,” Qui-Gon countered.

“Speak with Master Nathe I will,” Yoda stated.

The large Jedi glared at his mentor. “What?”

“The boy is right. He needs to do this,” the tiny Jedi explained. “A closure he needs. A closure we all need. Move on with the future we must and Obi-Wan is part of that future.”

“What if he…” Qui-Gon realized that he didn’t even need to ask his question.

“You will be in the room and I will contain it if needed. Good it will be for the Council to see what he is capable of.”

Qui-Gon could not believe what he was hearing. There was no longer any doubt in the mind of the Jedi that Master Yoda had lost his mind. “You mean you want him to get upset?”

“Mace said that he would allow Obi-Wan the opportunity to show him why he belonged to the Jedi. Show him, the boy will.”

The Jedi Master glanced at Obi-Wan who was just as taken back by Master Yoda’s suggestion as he was.

“Master Yoda,” the teen began. “I don’t know about this. I mean I want them to let me stay, not give them reason to kick me out.”

“I agree,” Qui-Gon remarked. “This is not a good idea. It may not even work.”

“I can make it work,” the tiny green Jedi promised.

Qui-Gon Jinn shook his head. “I can’t let him do this.”

“Told the boy to have faith,” Yoda reminded Qui-Gon. “Lead by example you should. Have faith in the Force. All will go as it should.”

Qui-Gon pushed himself up from his chair and paced beside Obi-Wan’s bed. There had to be another way. There was too much at stake. But yet, he felt the persistent urging of the Force to follow through with Master Yoda’s plan. He stopped at the foot of the bed as his gaze fell on his apprentice.

“The decision is yours, Obi-Wan.”

He didn’t take his eyes off the young man as the boy closed his eyes. After a few seconds, Obi-Wan looked back up at the Master.

“Let’s do it,” Obi-Wan whispered.

The Jedi Master sighed as he nodded in agreement. He still wasn’t completely sold on this idea, but it really wasn’t his decision. The decision had rightfully been Obi-Wan’s and as his Master, he was going to support the young man. He would be by his side to help him through this and maybe the Council would realize that his apprentice should be a Jedi.

Yoda is awesome! grin He's going to, with the help of the Force, make the council see exactly why Obi-Wan needs to be trained. Hopefully they will also show them that his gift can be contained and controlled, if only they will teach him how.

Adi seems to be thinking more on the Jedi Code than about the two padawan's concerned. Siri and Obi-Wan have been through a lot because of Obi's former master, and I think Adi fails to see that in regard to their affection for one another. They need honest unbiased guidance, not discipline where their feelings are concerned.

Wonderful addition! dancing I can hardly wait for Obi-Wan's audience with the Council, as long as it goes well, mind you. tongue

"Far away are your thoughts.”

I liked that entire conversation. Yoda was right on, but Mace was at least willing to listen. I love it.

I can see Adi's point of view, though it seems cruel and heartless. Until things are settled, Obi-Wan and Siri have to support each other and not by kissing and getting carried away. Things are too unsettled for them to be pursuing romance at this time, and they are young - what, 15 each or 15 and 16?

Great, great update.
