Aww, young love, why does love have to be so complicated?
Finally, poor Mace has been put in his place by someone. I love how Yoda did it. Very nice writing.
Qui-gon's got to have a little more faith. It seems he follows 'the will of the Force' but when it comes to someone he really cares for he's a bit more hesitant. lol
Superb update. Thanks!

Excellent update.
I'm glad Yoda gave Mace a piece of his mind, and gave him some things to think about.
The seeds of doubt began to creep back into his thoughts. What was he looking for? Was he seeking the truth or was he trying to find a reason to dismiss Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Order?
So Yoda has a plan, does he?
I hope he knows what he's doing!
Qui-Gon smiled at the young man when he looked over at him. He was always thankful when Obi-Wan would return his smile. There was something about the teen’s slight grin that would melt the coldest heart. He should know, it had melted his.
Thanks for the great update!

Mace is having doubts about his own feelings. Good
Lets hope the force and with Yoda's meddling Mace will see that Obi-Wan should be a Jedi.
The excitement is building, well done, brilliant update.

I am a horrible lurker, I've been tryint to delurk myself for ages. But I have read both of this story and the one before. Interesting, well thoughtout, beautiful. I really like it. I especially enjoy that Obi-Wan is a little rebellious.

What a wonderful update!
Methinks Mace has to learn to listen to Yoda, let alone the Force...
I can't wait to see how this plan of Yoda's will turn out...
Poor Siri. But in some ways, I think Adi was spot on. What would happen if they 'grew tired' of each other sometime? Not that I think that would really happen, but then again, you never know....
Can't wait for more...

Yoda is awesome! He's going to, with the help of the Force, make the council see exactly why Obi-Wan needs to be trained. Hopefully they will also show them that his gift can be contained and controlled, if only they will teach him how.
Obi-Wan's testimony will definitely be an eye opener. I plan on working on it this weekend!
Wonderful addition! I can hardly wait for Obi-Wan's audience with the Council, as long as it goes well, mind you.
Now, what would give you the idea that it wouldn't go well?
Valairy_Scot:
I liked that entire conversation. Yoda was right on, but Mace was at least willing to listen. I love it.
Mace will come to ultimately respect Obi-Wan...it will take some time.
I can see Adi's point of view, though it seems cruel and heartless. Until things are settled, Obi-Wan and Siri have to support each other and not by kissing and getting carried away. Things are too unsettled for them to be pursuing romance at this time, and they are young - what, 15 each or 15 and 16?
Of course, right now they can't see that. Young love and all that!
Thank you my friend for your friendship and support.
Cole_Kenobi:
Qui-gon's got to have a little more faith. It seems he follows 'the will of the Force' but when it comes to someone he really cares for he's a bit more hesitant. lol
Yep...this is a learning experience for Qui-Gon as well.
Bastet:
So Yoda has a plan, does he? I hope he knows what he's doing!
So does everybody else.
Gkilkenny:

Let's hope!

I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

Well, the Council scene isn't in the next post, but it is leading up to it. I'll work on the council scene this weekend!

I can't wait to see how this plan of Yoda's will turn out...
Neither can I.
Poor Siri. But in some ways, I think Adi was spot on. What would happen if they 'grew tired' of each other sometime? Not that I think that would really happen, but then again, you never know....
That's right...you never know.
Thank you all for reading and being such an encouragement to me. The next post is coming up. I wanted to post it yesterday, but DRL got busy. So, here it is in time for the weekend. Happy Friday!
Part 47
“You want to do what?”
Master Healer Nathe could not believe what the ancient Master was suggesting. Master Yoda had approached him about Obi-Wan appearing before the Council and demonstrating the power that the Force had bestowed upon the boy. Nathe had seen first hand what the young man could do and he wasn’t sure what the grand Jedi wanted to accomplish by this exhibition.
“The Council needs to see why the boy must remain and be trained in the Jedi ways. They must see that a danger he is not. The hope of the Order he is,” Yoda insisted.
“You are placing another tremendous burden on his shoulders. He doesn’t have the control he needs to handle appearing before the Council,” Nathe tried to reason.
“I will help him as will Qui-Gon.”
“I still don’t like it. It’s too risky. He needs a few more days to recuperate.”
“What is his midichlorian count?” Yoda inquired.
“They are fully replenished,” the healer was forced to admit. “He has one of the highest counts that I have ever seen. Of course, his isn’t as high as yours; his count is close to 17,000. It seems that when the Force decided to channel itself through Obi-Wan, that his midichlorians responded favorably. As did the damaged part of his brain that I was concerned about. According to the scan, the damage is being reversed.”
“Good news this is,” the tiny Master surmised.
“Yes it is,” Nathe agreed, “but, we still should proceed with caution. Padawan Kenobi has a long road ahead of him.”
“Aware of that I am.”
The healer sighed. He realized that he was not going to win this argument. Besides the fact that Obi-Wan was still extremely fatigued, there was truly no physical reason he had to keep the young man from testifying.
“What did Obi-Wan say?”
“He has agreed to do it,” Yoda replied.
“All right. I will temporarily release the boy to testify,” the healer finally conceded. “However, there are a couple of conditions. First of all, I will be allowed to attend and hear Obi-Wan’s testimony so I can monitor him. Secondly, if I say the hearing needs to stop, you will respect my medical expertise and continue another time.”
“Harm we do not wish to cause the Padawan. Agree to your terms I do as will the Council.”
“Very well. What time will he need to be there?”
“Master Jinn is helping him to get dressed as we speak.”
Nathe arched his eyebrow at the diminutive Jedi. “How did you know that I would agree to this?”
“Always see things my way, you do.”
The Master Healer shook his head as Yoda left his office. He gathered his data pad that had Obi-Wan’s latest test results and tucked it in his robe. Nathe thought that perhaps he would need it if the other Council members had any questions regarding the young man’s health. Chuckling to himself, the healer wondered what some of the Council members would do when they realized that Obi-Wan’s midichlorian count was higher that theirs. It would be a humbling experience; that much was certain.
“I guess I better go and check on my patient one last time,” Nathe mumbled to himself.
Walking out of his office and towards Obi-Wan’s room, he hoped that he was not making a huge mistake by permitting the youth to testify so soon. The teen’s future was dependent upon the outcome of this hearing and Nathe wanted nothing more that to see the young man rise through the ranks of a Jedi. He easily recalled how the two of them had quite a tumultuous beginning, but now, the healer had nothing but admiration and respect for the Padawan. If the Force could open his eyes to what an incredible young man Obi-Wan Kenobi was, he wondered why the wisest members of the Jedi Order could not see the youth for what he was. A true Jedi.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obi-Wan came out of the fresher amazed at how much better he felt after his shower. He had slipped on his leggings and had put a fresh tunic on. He wasn’t still sure exactly what Master Yoda thought he was going to accomplish, but over the years, he had learned that the elder Jedi was usually right. The teen was truly worried about what was going to happen if he started losing control of his emotions, but both Master Qui-Gon and Master Yoda promised him that they would help him. He had to trust them sometime.
“You look better,” the Jedi Master remarked, interrupting the young man’s thoughts.
“I feel a lot better,” the youth answered as he sat down in a chair to pull his socks and his boots on. “It’s amazing what a hot shower can do.”
“I was beginning to think that you were going to stay in there until the Temple springs ran dry.”
Obi-Wan shrugged at the jibe. “Believe it or not, I didn’t have a hot shower the entire time I was apprenticed to Master Elad. I guess I kind of go to extremes now.”
“Padawan, I wasn’t being critical. I apologize if it seemed that way.”
The teen shook his head. “No, I’m sorry Master Jinn. I did not mean for you to think that I was offended by your comment. I guess I was just thinking out loud.”
Obi-Wan didn’t even know why he brought up his past with Master Elad. It just seemed to naturally slip out. He didn’t want to hurt his Master with reminders of his former life. He was supposed to concentrate on the present, not live in the past. Wasn’t that what Qui-Gon was always telling him? Live in the here and now.
“We are still dancing around each other’s feelings, aren’t we? Padawan, don’t apologize for ever telling me anything. You know that I want to know about your past, but I want to hear about it when you’re ready. If it comes out in casual conversation, so be it.”
“When I’m ready, huh?” Obi-Wan pulled on his last boot. “Is that why you haven’t been reading the journal?”
“Partly,” Qui-Gon confessed. “But the main reason was that after what happened with Xanatos, I decided that I needed to lead by example. I felt as if I were holding you to the past and myself as well. I keep telling you to look ahead and not back. You couldn’t do that as long as I was reading that journal.”
“Where is it now?”
“In your room, where it will stay unless you decide to do something with it.”
Obi-Wan didn’t know what to say. “Thank you, Master,” he finally managed to whisper.
“You’re welcome, Padawan. Now, why don’t you finish getting dressed?”
The youth simply nodded as he reached for his utility belt. He smiled at his Master when he felt Qui-Gon sending tendrils of reassurance and comfort to him. Maybe everything was actually going to work out. If he could only silence the tiny voice in the back of his mind that was telling him that he was a hopeless cause, then he could dare to hope that his future did indeed lie with the Jedi.
The door opened to reveal Master Healer Nathe. As the healer entered the room, Obi-Wan glanced at Qui-Gon, sensing that Master Nathe was not happy with this new development. He quickly decided to allow his Master to handle the seemingly annoyed healer. After all, Qui-Gon Jinn was considered to be one of the finest negotiators in the Jedi Order.
//Coward.//
Obi-Wan grinned at his Master’s chiding. The teen stood just to the left of his Master as he followed Qui-Gon’s lead, executing a formal bow to the Healer.
“Master Nathe,” Qui-Gon stated. “It’s good to see you again.”
“Don’t start with me,” Nathe warned the Jedi Master. “I’ve already been several rounds with Master Yoda. All I can say is that I am allowing this to happen on the condition that I am right there in the Council chambers with him. I will also end the questioning if I think it is becoming too much for Obi-Wan. Is that understood?”
“I appreciate your concern for my apprentice and of course, we will accept your terms. I’m still not sure about this, but Yoda did seem to think it would work.”
“I know,” the healer replied. “Sometimes he scares me.”
Obi-Wan saw his Master smile at the healer’s words, permitting the teen to breathe a sigh of relief. Nathe wasn’t angry. He had just been bested by Yoda. He tightened his utility belt and then reached for his robe, simultaneously listening to Nathe and Qui-Gon’s conversation.
“I know what you mean,” the Jedi Master snickered. “He can be rather daunting for a Jedi of such short stature.”
“He always manages to get what he wants.”
The young man felt the Healer’s eyes follow his every movement. He knew that Nathe was just worried about him and it was actually a nice feeling, but at the same time, it was unnerving. He was still not used to having so many people actually care about his well being.
“Is something wrong, Master Nathe?” Obi-Wan asked, a sliver of nervousness present in his distinctive tone.
“No, I was making sure that you were up for this.”
“I guess so. I think I just want to get it over with. I’m tired of it hanging over my head.”
“I’m sure you are. If you start to feel tired or sick, I want you to stop. This hearing is not worth risking your health.”
“I assure you that he will,” Qui-Gon interposed. “Right, Padawan?”
“Yes, Masters,” the teen promised.
“By the way, I have some good news regarding your test results,” Nathe announced.
Obi-Wan anxiously waited for the healer to reveal his findings. In his mind, the youth had always played out the worst case scenario. Once again, he was grateful that his Master stepped in where he faltered.
“Please don’t keep us waiting,” the Jedi Master urgently pleaded.
“Obi-Wan, your midichlorians have replenished. It seems that your experience with the Force has somehow made them respond in a positive manner.”
“Really?” The young man was astounded. Perhaps something good would come out of all he had endured.
“Yes, really. And that’s not all.”
The teen glanced at his Master, wondering what else the healer had to say. So far, this was more than he had dared to hope for.
“The damage to your brain is being reversed. I also think that it is result of the Force channeling itself through you. Now, it is still not completely healed, but I don’t think that you’ll have to have surgery. Just patience.”
Obi-Wan fell back in the chair. He shook his head in amazement. “I can’t believe it.”
“I wouldn’t lie to you, Padawan Kenobi.”
‘I know. I just thought…” Obi-Wan pushed himself back up and stood beside his Master. “Never mind what I thought. It doesn’t matter. But, I will get better. I’ll be able to…I don’t know how to thank you.”
“I didn’t do anything,” the Healer said.
The boy nodded as he noticed Qui-Gon checking his chronometer. “Is it time?” Obi-Wan wanted to know.
“Yes, Padawan. Are you ready?”
“Yes Master.”
The young man fell into step just behind Qui-Gon. He still had trouble comprehending what he had just been told. Now if his testimony before the Council went well, he would probably be able to remain in the Jedi Order. For the first time in a long time, things appeared to be going well for him. Then why was he expecting someone or something to pull the rug out from under him?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qui-Gon and Nathe walked side by side with Obi-Wan just to the left and a few steps behind the tall Jedi. The boy was right where he should be. The news about the teen’s health had been a welcome relief, but the Jedi found himself curious as to why the healer hadn’t told Obi-Wan what his midichlorian count was. Obi-Wan hadn’t bothered to ask and the Jedi felt that the boy was probably too excited to think about it. Qui-Gon had started to ask, but the Force was telling him to wait.
As the trio headed towards the Council chambers, Qui-Gon began to sense an uneasiness within his apprentice. He felt the boy become increasingly uncomfortable despite the Master’s effort at trying to ease Obi-Wan’s unraveling nerves.
//Obi-Wan?//
//Yes, Master?//
//What’s wrong?//
//It’s nothing, Master. Probably my overactive imagination.//
//Padawan, please tell me.//
//It’s just that everybody is staring at me .//
//Just ignore them.//
//I can’t.//
Qui-Gon spared a cursory glance at some of the Jedi that were passing by them. The stares that were directed at his Padawan spoke loudly of confusion, curiosity, and disgust. How dare these beings judge his apprentice! For Obi-Wan to pick up these feelings right before he was to address the Council was not doing much for the youth’s waning confidence.
//Don’t let their ignorance bother you, Padawan. Keep focused.//
//It’s difficult, Master.//
//I know, but you can do it. //
//We’ll deal with this together, but not right now. We have other matters to attend to. //
//I’ll try. //
//Remember what Master Yoda says?//
//Do I have to?//
//Yes.//
//I can hear their thoughts.//
The tall Jedi stopped in his tracks and turned to face Obi-Wan. This was not good. For every one thing the Force seemed to be doing to help the boy, it was placing yet another burden on him. Closing his eyes, Qui-Gon began to construct a shield around the boy’s mind. It wouldn’t keep the voices out forever, but perhaps it would at least make the journey to the Council chambers more tolerable.
“Thank you, Master,” Obi-Wan quietly expressed his gratitude.
“You’re welcome.”
Qui-Gon exchanged worried glances with the healer and then the three of them continued their journey. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all. He prayed to the Force that Yoda knew what he was doing. He was even more grateful that Nathe was present. The Jedi Master would have to make the healer aware of this new development.
Once the reached the waiting area of the Council chambers, Qui-Gon motioned for Obi-Wan to sit down. He joined the Healer at the far window, making sure that he was out of hearing range of his apprentice.
“He can hear others thoughts,” he informed the Healer. “I’ve placed shields around his mind until we can figure out what to do.”
“Unbelievable,” Nathe muttered. “All right. We’ll just keep an eye on him.”
Qui-Gon nodded in agreement as he turned at the mention of his name. He greeted his old friend Tahl, being glad to see a friendly face. He noticed that Bant was sitting beside Obi-Wan and that they were talking amongst themselves.
“What are you doing here, my old friend?” Tahl asked.
“Obi-Wan is going to testify before the Council.”
“So soon? Is he ready?”
The Jedi Master shrugged. “I don’t know. I hope so. I think Yoda has something in store for the Council. I just hope that his plan works like its supposed to.”
“Well, they didn’t get much from either one of us. We really didn’t see anything.”
“Who’s in there now?”
“Master Plo Koon.”
Qui-Gon shook his head. “Of all people to testify before Obi-Wan.”
“I don’t know,” Tahl mused. “He seemed different.”
“I wish I could believe that.”
“Don’t always assume the worst,” she gently chided.
“Isn’t that what everyone is doing about Obi-Wan? Assuming the worst.”
Qui-Gon smiled at his companion. “I need to go be with Obi-Wan. Perhaps later, the four of us could meet for a meal.”
“That would be lovely. I know Bant would like that. She is so worried about Obi-Wan.”
“I’ll be in touch.”
Qui-Gon sat beside Obi-Wan as Tahl and Bant headed down the corridor. He placed a reassuring hand on the young man’s shoulder. The Master and the apprentice sat in companionable silence as they waited for their turn before the Council. The Jedi Master found himself wondering what Plo Koon was telling the Council members. He couldn’t think about that. He had to concentrate on helping his Padawan. Obi-Wan was all that mattered.

Poor Obi-Wan. His nervousness over the hearing comes across to the reader loud and clear.
It would be interesting if Obi-Wan told the Council that he knew what they were thinking. The fact that he can hear others thoughts would hopefully bring them down a notch or two, knowing that what they thought of him was not going unnoticed despite their shields or lack there of.
Please let this meeting go well!
Another fantastic addition to a wonderful story!

Yay, update!
And what a wonderful one!
I think I'm in with Nathe and Qui-Gon on this - is seeing the council really good right now?
Poor Obi-Wan, hearing everybody's thoughts... Somehow I don't think all of them are too nice...
Can't wait to see what will happen in the Council chamber.
And wonder what Plo Koon is telling them - it did seem he changed, so hopefully it will be in Obi-Wan's favour.
I know you just posted, but - more soon please?

Let's just hope that Obi-wan continues to get better.
I'm not sure the old troll knows what he is doing. It could make thins much worse for Obi.
Great job.

Obi's getting better with the help of the Force and without surgery!
I am curious about Plo Koon's testimony and also how Obi-Wan is going to "wow" the Council, because of course Obi-Wan is going to prove to them why he should be trained and remain in the Order.
I hope when all is done and over, the rest of the Jedi get to know *enough* of the story to treat Obi-Wan with the compassion such a victim of terrible abuse deserves.
Great job my friend, great job.

"It's amazing what a hot shower can do."
That is so true!!
Hope this testimony goes well for Obi-Wan. He needs people on his side as well as the Force.
Great post.

How dare those other Jedi have such mean thoughts about Obi-Wan!
The stares that were directed at his Padawan spoke loudly of confusion, curiosity, and disgust.
I really wonder what Plo-Koon is in there saying right now.
Let's hope he's changed for the better.
I can't wait to find out how it goes in the Council with Obi-Wan.
Great update!

Marvelous update! Thank you so much!
Poor Obi-wan, it's amazing what blessings with take for granted, like a nice hot shower.
Awesome chapter.
