Part 46 (
)
Too important to the Jedi this boy is.
I'll say. I mean, if they dump him on the curb he'll be snapped up by a Sith in a heartbeat. If the Jedi don't want that, then he should obviously stay.
Yay, it seems like Obi-Wan is finally reliying on Qui-Gon! But oh my stars, I know you say this story is near its end, but what if the Council decides Obi-Wan's power is too much? You wouldn't end this story in a bit of a cliffhanger, would you?
Part 47
“Always see things my way, you do.”
ROTFLOL. Nathe and Yoda seem to have an interesting relationship.
Obi-Wan can hear people's thoughts? I don't know if I should think "Oh, cool!" or "Oh, not good..."
I'm betting the latter.

Falling a bit behind here.
I can't disagree with Qui-Gon's hesitancy on Plo Koon testifying.

I have been hanging on to every word of this story, and I have to say, it's amazing.
You capture the emotions and actions of all the characters perfectly, especially Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan. I feel like I'm will them in the story. And I canNOT wait to see what happens with the council!
Please put me on the PM list, I'm desperate to see your next post!

Well done What a great post. Obi-Wan is trusting his Master more and more.
//Remember what Master Yoda says?//
//Do I have to?//
//Yes.//
//I can hear their thoughts.//
That will be a problem if he hears everyones thoughts. Mace better keep his agro thoughts to himself otherwise Obi might do something to Mace
I cannot wait to find out what Plo Koon is saying, has he come to his senses or is he still a fool.
Brilliant chapter

bek:
It would be interesting if Obi-Wan told the Council that he knew what they were thinking. The fact that he can hear others thoughts would hopefully bring them down a notch or two, knowing that what they thought of him was not going unnoticed despite their shields or lack there of.
You'll get your wish!
Please let this meeting go well!
We'll see...
By the way, speaking of things going well...how's the next update coming for "Not Myself?" (Hint, hint!)
Qui-Gina-Jinn:
Can't wait to see what will happen in the Council chamber.
And wonder what Plo Koon is telling them - it did seem he changed, so hopefully it will be in Obi-Wan's favour.
Keep your fingers crossed!
I know you just posted, but - more soon please?
The next post has been sent for proofing...hopefully tomorrow!
dianethx:
I'm not sure the old troll knows what he is doing. It could make thins much worse for Obi.
Well, the good thing is that you'll be the first to find out! Thank you for all you do!
Valairy_Scot:
I am curious about Plo Koon's testimony and also how Obi-Wan is going to "wow" the Council, because of course Obi-Wan is going to prove to them why he should be trained and remain in the Order.
I think that you'll be "wowwed" by Plo Koon. Thank you so much for your kind words. I'll miss seeing you on the boards...hope you're having a great trip!
ratna:
Thank you.
I think everyone is hoping that this testimony goes well!
Bastet:
I really wonder what Plo-Koon is in there saying right now. Let's hope he's changed for the better.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!
Cole_Kenobi:
Thank you and you're welcome! I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
silversock:
Yay, it seems like Obi-Wan is finally reliying on Qui-Gon! But oh my stars, I know you say this story is near its end, but what if the Council decides Obi-Wan's power is too much? You wouldn't end this story in a bit of a cliffhanger, would you?
Now, would I do a thing like that?
Obi-Wan can hear people's thoughts? I don't know if I should think "Oh, cool!" or "Oh, not good..." I'm betting the latter.
You're probably right!
Healer_Leona:
Like I said previously, you'll be surprised by Plo Koon.
Obi_Odd13:
Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm so glad you're enjoying it and I'd be honored to add your name to the PM list!
Gkilkenny:

You could be right!
I cannot wait to find out what Plo Koon is saying, has he come to his senses or is he still a fool.
You'll discover that soon enough. Thank you for reading. I can't tell you how much your support means!
Tatooine_Ghost:
Thank you!
As I said, the next post is being proofed and should be up sometime tomorrow. Thank you all again for your continued support and encouragement.
It means the world to me!

Next post is coming up!
Part 48
It had been a while since Master Plo Koon had stood in the center of the Council Chambers facing what he once considered to be his peers. Since his dismissal, he had preferred not to associate with other Jedi. He had been too preoccupied with trying to find a way to rid the Order of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Then he had been ordered by master Yoda to go and help Qui-Gon and his Padawan. Not being one to defy an order, no matter how much he disagreed with it, Plo Koon begrudgingly accompanied Masters Tahl and Gallia on their quest to find Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan.
It was amazing how circumstances could alter one’s perspective. He had witnessed something incredible as the Force channeled itself through the young man, using the Padawan as its voice. Plo Koon had watched as the boy tried to fight what was happening to him. The Jedi Master quickly understood that the Force was not giving the teen a choice. The Force was demanding that Obi-Wan Kenobi vanquish the evil darkness of Xanatos. The youth did exactly what the Force asked of him, forcing Padawan Kenobi to become the reluctant hero.
He had vividly described to the Council the events as they had unfolded. The various members listened intently to Plo Koon, seemingly hanging onto his every word as the Jedi Master’s new found admiration for the boy became apparent.
“It seems that your opinion of Padawan Kenobi has drastically changed,” Master Mace Windu observed.
“I suppose it has. I have had a lot of time lately to meditate on the situation,” Plo Koon admitted. “My prior feelings regarding Padawan Kenobi are irrelevant to what has happened. He has more than proved himself worthy of remaining in the Jedi Order.”
“Why the sudden change in heart? You realize that because of Padawan Kenobi, you were dismissed from the Council?”
Plo Koon shook his head, disagreeing with the senior Councilor. “No Master Windu,” he replied. “I allowed my own insecurities and doubts to interfere with my judgment.”
“A valuable lesson you have learned,” Master Yoda stated.
“Yes, Master. When you sent me on this mission, I was unsure of why you insisted that I go. But now, I realize that I was not only sent to help Master Jinn and his apprentice, but to remember what it is to be a Jedi.
“I had forgotten what being a Jedi was. It wasn’t until I saw the Force consume that boy that I began to realize that I could never be used of the Force like Padawan Kenobi. It was a humbling experience to say the least.”
Plo Koon wasn’t sure if the Council understood what he was trying to say; he wasn’t sure if he completely understood himself. All he knew was that as long as he harbored feelings of resentment and anger, the Force would not use him and to a Jedi, that was unacceptable.
“I believe that we would be making a grave mistake by turning Padawan Kenobi away,” the Kel Dor declared.
The former Council member could tell that his testimony wasn’t exactly what most of the Council expected to hear. But it didn’t matter. He had spoken the truth whether they accepted it or not.
“I still find it difficult to believe that your opinion of Padawan Kenobi has evolved from absolute detestation to such admiration,” Mace pointedly remarked.
“I came to the realization that I was only doing myself harm by harboring such ill feelings. Perhaps one day, you’ll come to the same understanding,” Plo Koon challenged.
“Much you have given this Council to consider,” Master Yoda said before Mace could reply. “Dismissed you are.”
Master Plo Koon respectfully bowed to the Council and walked through the massive doors into the waiting area. There he saw Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi sitting on two of the plush chairs waiting their turn before the Council. Making his way over to the Master and apprentice, he wasn’t sure exactly what he was going to say, but the Force refused to let him simply pass by.
He didn’t blame Qui-Gon for being protective of the younger man. The taller Jedi was now standing in front of his Padawan as Plo Koon approached them.
“I don’t blame you,” Plo Koon told the Jedi Master. “I just wanted to tell your apprentice that I am sorry. My behavior has not been that of a Jedi.”
“Really?” Qui-Gon answered skeptically. “Forgive me if I doubt your intentions, but…”
“I know that I’ve not given you any reason to believe me, but I truly am sorry.”
Plo Koon saw Obi-Wan stand beside his Master. He was nearly taken back by the teen’s brilliant presence in the Force.
“I accept your apology, Master Plo Koon,” the teen said as he executed a perfect bow to the elder Jedi.
“Thank you, Padawan Kenobi.”
Plo Koon turned to leave but paused as he glanced back over his shoulder. “May the Force be with you, Padawan Kenobi.”
“And with you, Master Plo Koon.”
Satisfied that for now, he had made his peace with the Padawan, Plo Koon went his own way. He hoped that one day he would be able to sit down and talk with the apprentice in detail, but for now, he would strive to be half the Jedi that Obi-Wan Kenobi already was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You amaze me, Padawan,” Qui-Gon said.
Obi-Wan looked at his Master, his cheeks flushing slightly at the unexpected praise. “I’m not so sure I understand what you mean, Master.”
“I admire you for being able to forgive Master Plo Koon even after all that he has put you through,” the Jedi explained.
Obi-Wan shrugged. “I believe he was sincere. He seemed to be anyway.” The teen smiled at his mentor. “Maybe all those lectures about not living in the past finally sank in.”
“It took long enough,” Qui-Gon jokingly replied.
“I better be careful. People may start confusing me with my ever obstinate Master,” the youth shot back. His eyes sparkled with amusement, thoroughly enjoying the light banter with his Master.
“It’s good to see you smile.”
“It’s good to have a reason to smile. I may not have one later on.”
“If I have anything to say about it, you will,” the Jedi assured the boy.
“Too bad you’re not on the Council.”
“I’m too much of a rogue for them.”
“Plus the fact that you have an unstable Padawan doesn’t do a lot for your image,” the youth added.
Obi-Wan was spared the lecture that he knew was coming as the Council page announced that the Council was ready for them. The young man nodded his thanks as he spared a fleeting look at his Master. He was glad that Qui-Gon seemed so calm because the teen knew that he was a bundle of nerves. Obi-Wan felt his Master place a reassuring hand on his shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Are you ready?” the Jedi quietly asked.
“Not really. I guess the sooner we get in there, the sooner it will be over with.”
“That’s one way to look at it, my young Padawan.”
Obi-Wan fell into step just behind his Master. They were joined by Master Healer Nathe as the trio stood before the door. The youth sighed, giving Qui-Gon a barely noticeable nod indicating that he was ready. A tiny smile formed on his lips as he felt his Master reach across their bond.
//I will be by your side.//
//I know, Master. Thank you.//
The teen swallowed nervously, trying to quell his anxieties while his eyes fixated on Qui-Gon’s large hand as he opened the door. Following the two Jedi masters into the Council chamber, he had to fight the urge to flee from the room. The fear that was coursing through his veins threatened to overwhelm him. If it hadn’t been for Qui-Gon’s constant reassurance, he probably wouldn’t have even been able to walk through the door.
//Focus, Padawan.//
//Yes, Master. It is…difficult.//
//I know, but everything will be all right. I promise.//
Following Qui-Gon’s lead, Obi-Wan respectfully bowed to the members of the Council and waited patiently to be addressed. His gaze went between the two senior Councilor’s, trying to sense their intentions towards him. He knew that he really didn’t have to be concerned about Master Yoda, but Master Windu was another story. The stony countenance on the dark-skinned Master’s face worried Obi-Wan. The young man’s gaze came to rest on Master Windu, steeling himself for the inquisition.
“I wasn’t aware that Master Healer Nathe’s presence was requested,” Master Windu announced, shattering the stillness in the room.
“My Padawan is still under Master Nathe’s care,” Qui-Gon coolly informed the senior Councilor.
“If he isn’t well, why is he here?”
“Because apparently the Council could not wait a few more days,” the tall Jedi retorted.
Obi-Wan wanted to smile at his Master’s sardonic remark, but managed to maintain his stoic façade. It was no mystery why Qui-Gon Jinn was not a member of the Council. The tension between his Master and Master Windu seemed to intensify the situation, making the knot in Obi-Wan’s stomach pull even tighter. He was grateful when Master Yoda stepped in to diffuse the hostility between the two Masters.
“Here at my request he is,” Yoda stated. “No further debate on this matter will there be!”
“Very well,” Mace conceded. “Are you ready to begin, Padawan Kenobi?”
“Yes, Master Windu,” the youth solemnly answered.
“I believe that the Council has a clear picture of what happened regarding the events leading up to the confrontation with Xanatos. However, I’d like to hear in your own words what happened when the Force began to channel itself through you.”
“I’m not exactly sure what happened. It had been a while since I had felt comfortable with the Force because it had been used against me in rather unpleasant ways,” Obi-Wan began. “I fought against it at first because I knew what would happen.”
“And that was?” the Councilor pressed.
“I knew that I couldn’t control the Force and that someone could possibly get hurt.”
“How did you know this?”
“From experience. It had happened one time before when I was apprenticed to Master Elad. It was after that episode that he started drugging me.”
“Continue, please.”
Obi-Wan was glad that Master Windu did not seem interested in revisiting his past. Licking his lips, he continued with his testimony.
“Anyway, the power was too much for me to handle and I remember that the wind started blowing and the ground was shaking. I was scared that someone was going to get hurt and I would be the cause of it. I begged the Force to stop, but it wouldn’t let me. I was merely the tool that the Force was using. There came a point when everything became too much and the next thing I know, I’m waking up on the transport coming home.”
“You don’t remember what happened to Xanatos?”
“No,” the teen softly responded. He was trying not to give in to the nervous energy that was flowing through him. Obi-Wan forced himself to remain perfectly still as Master Windu pressed on with the investigation.
“I find that hard to believe, Padawan Kenobi. It is rather convenient that you seem to have part of your memory missing, especially the part that involves the death of your enemy.”
The teen’s gaze did not waver from Master Windu’s harsh stare. “I’m sorry it seems that way, Master Windu, but I am telling you the truth.”
“I’m sure you are, Padawan Kenobi. I just commented that I found it odd.”
Obi-Wan allowed himself to shift slightly as Master Windu sat back in his chair. He felt his Master through their bond and took comfort from the elder Jedi. The young man knew he wasn’t alone and for the first time in a long time, he relished in that sense of security that he had lived without for so long.
“Padawan Kenobi, please tell the Council why you felt it was necessary to confront Xanatos?” Master Windu inquired.
“He was holding Padawan Tachi hostage. I felt it was my fault that she was in danger and so I had to do something about it.”
“Did your Master agree with your decision?”
“No, he did not. He wanted to protect me.”
“So, you disobeyed a direct mandate from Master Jinn?”
“Yes, I did.”
“I see.”
“He had no choice,” Qui-Gon interposed. “He followed the will of the Force. As many of you know that it is not unusual for the Force to dictate someone’s actions. Perhaps if we all truly listened to the Force, we would learn this lesson as well.”
“You have had your opportunity to address the Council, Master Jinn. If you speak again without being recognized, you will be dismissed from these proceedings,” Mace warned Qui-Gon.
Obi-Wan was embarrassed for his Master. Qui-Gon was only trying to defend him and he had quickly been put in his place by the formidable Mace Windu. The youth was starting to believe that this had not been such a good idea.
//Don’t worry, Padawan. It’s not the first time that I’ve been reprimanded by a Council member and I’m sure it won’t be the last.//
The youth had to smile at his Master’s attempt to lighten the situation. He stood tall as he continued to face the Council. He would make Qui-Gon proud. His Master had faith in him and he had to reciprocate. He had to have faith in Qui-Gon Jinn that everything would work out.
“So, you went out to save Padawan Tachi,” Mace stated.
“That’s correct.”
“What made you think that you could save her from someone like Xanatos?”
“I don’t know,” Obi-Wan admitted. “I had to try. She’s my friend.”
“Are you sure that she isn’t something more special?”
Obi-Wan’s eyes widened at Master Windu’s suggestion. He knew that his Master hadn’t said anything to the Council. Had Master Gallia?”
“She is a good friend,” he finally answered, “and she would have done the same for me.”
“I’m sure she would have,” Mace agreed. “After she was rendered unconscious and she was safe inside the cabin, why didn’t you just retreat?”
“The Force wouldn’t let me,” Obi-Wan tried to reason. “I had to see it through to the end.”
“This power that the Force enabled you with, do you believe it to be dangerous? Didn’t you say that you were afraid that someone would get hurt?”
“Yes, I did. It is difficult to control and…”
“Then please tell me why you should remain in the Jedi Order? I saw the room in the med wing that you destroyed. If Master Yoda had not contained it, we probably wouldn’t have a healer’s wing. You are unstable and you are dangerous to yourself and those around you. I can not subject the other Jedi in this Temple to living in fear of one of their own!”
Obi-Wan gritted his teeth as Master Windu continued his pointed attack against him. He made his hands into fists as he struggled against the tremors that wanted to consume him. When he finally was able to speak, his voice was tight and controlled.
“Perhaps you should look at things from my perspective, Master Windu. I didn’t ask for nor do I want this power. I want to be a normal Jedi Padawan, but I can’t. The Force did this to me and you can accept it or not. It doesn’t matter to me. I am who I am and I can not change that.”
He was so focused on the Korun Master that he did not pay attention to the silent exchange between Master Yoda and Qui-Gon. The frustration that Obi-Wan was feeling could easily be sensed by the various Council members. The teen sensed his Master’s presence in his mind as Qui-Gon began taking down the shields that he had constructed earlier.
//Master?//
//Trust me.//
The thoughts of the Council began to invade his mind. His gaze fell to the various members as he heard their private comments. Several of them were agreeing with Master Windu while others actually pitied him.
“I don’t need your pity,” Obi-Wan snapped. “I’m not asking for pity! I’m asking for a chance!”
The teen’s voice quivered as he sank to his knees. “I just want a chance. I can learn. Why won’t you give me a chance?” he cried out.
Obi-Wan placed his trembling hands over his ears to try and block out the voices in his mind. He could feel the Force gathering around him, both to comfort him and to protect him. The glass within the chambers began to rattle as the floor walls moaned in protest. The voices in his mind turned from pity and aversion to disbelief.
“Not again!” Obi-Wan screamed over the deafening sounds of the chamber as tiny cracks began to appear in the walls and the floor. “What are you trying to do me? Help me!” the teen sobbed.
He suddenly felt the hands of his Master cupping his tear-stained face.
“Obi-Wan, look at me!” the Jedi instructed. “Look at me!”
The teen could tell the Master was reconstructing the shields in his mind so he would no longer have to hear the thoughts of the Council members. It was then he recognized the familiar presence of Master Yoda as the elder Jedi began to help him harness the power that wanted to consume him. It was as if a warm blanket was covering him, encouraging him to snuggle down in its warmth.
He wasn’t sure when Yoda had approached him and laid his hand on his head, but he knew that he was now surrounded by the people that mattered the most. Right now, he didn’t care who else was in the room, as long as his Master and Master Yoda were there, he could handle whatever came his way.
Obi-Wan sagged against his Master’s chest, concentrating on his breathing as he attempted to gain control of his emotions. After a few minutes, he pushed himself away from Qui-Gon and shakily stood to his feet. He started to sway but his Master was there, helping him to remain upright.
The youth heard the sound of Master Yoda’s gimer stick tapping the floor as he demanded the attention of the Council.
“See you do, why the boy must be trained. It is the will of the Force. Time to make your decision it is.”
The young man stood erect as he faced the Council, nodding his thanks to Qui-Gon while at the same time communicating to him that he was all right. He felt the eyes of the Council boring into him as if they could see his very soul. Obi-Wan recognized the fact that he had come very close to the edge once again and it scared him. It frightened him that one day, he could possibly find himself over the edge and he wouldn’t be able to climb back up.
You never do actually mention what the council members see as the Force consumes Obi-wan....Might be interesting to see that
RE: The Best of Intentions (Obi-Qui, AU) Sequel to The Truth Shall Set You Free Updated 04/30!
So Plo Koon did have a change of heart, I'm glad to hear it!
Loved this especially--
Satisfied that for now, he had made his peace with the Padawan, Plo Koon went his own way. He hoped that one day he would be able to sit down and talk with the apprentice in detail, but for now, he would strive to be half the Jedi that Obi-Wan Kenobi already was.
I'm glad the Force finally served him some humble pie, oh yeah!
I loved the banter between Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan before the Council session.
Obi-Wan shrugged. “I believe he was sincere. He seemed to be anyway.” The teen smiled at his mentor. “Maybe all those lectures about not living in the past finally sank in.”
“It took long enough,” Qui-Gon jokingly replied.
“I better be careful. People may start confusing me with my ever obstinate Master,” the youth shot back. His eyes sparkled with amusement, thoroughly enjoying the light banter with his Master.
“It’s good to see you smile.”
Yes, indeed!
Loved the Council scene, but I'm finding myself liking Mace Windu less and less.
“I don’t know,” Obi-Wan admitted. “I had to try. She’s my friend.”
“Are you sure that she isn’t something more special?”
Is that
really
any of his business?
Obi-Wan placed his trembling hands over his ears to try and block out the voices in his mind. He could feel the Force gathering around him, both to comfort him and to protect him. The glass within the chambers began to rattle as the floor walls moaned in protest. The voices in his mind turned from pity and aversion to disbelief.
So now they know what he's capable of, but hopefully they realize that they can't upset Obi without upsetting the Force even more!
He wasn’t sure when Yoda had approached him and laid his hand on his head, but he knew that he was now surrounded by the people that mattered the most. Right now, he didn’t care who else was in the room, as long as his Master and Master Yoda were there, he could handle whatever came his way.
That was a great post,
Wow. Wonderful update. Very nice dialouge. Loved the line where Qui-gon states it wasn't his first or won't be his last reprimand from the Council. lol
Awesome chapter. Thanks.
Poor Obi-Wan. He just wants to be normal and the Force isn't letting him.
Great job! I wonder what's going to happen next!
