They may have hooked the council, now they just need to reel them in. happy

Having seen the force in action through Obi-Wan, the council should now have a better understanding of why so many feel so strongly about the teen becoming a Jedi Knight and in the process learning how to better control that which would otherwise control him. But what will they decide? thinking

Obi-Wan did really well under Mace's scrutiny. He even withstood the Master's inquisition as to his relationship with Siri. He behaved like the Jedi Knight he was born to be.

Poor Obi-Wan. I think Jedi compassion has escaped some on the Council. Forget the possible danger to those in the Temple, would they really throw him out and subject all the non Force users out there to the threat or leave Obi-Wan condemned to not be trained to use the power he obviously has? Seems like Mace needs to do a little meditating.

Excellent couple of posts. Particulalrly the last one. Very nice foreshadowing of Obi-Wan's personality and future ways and skills. The part with Qui-Gon praising him sincerely and powerfully when he shows Plo-Koon understanding was great. Also, Qui-Gon using the moment and pushing Obi's trust in him at the most adventageous--albeit dangerous--moment was really cool. He got away with it a little too easily, though;)

“Perhaps you should look at things from my perspective, Master Windu. I didn’t ask for nor do I want this power. I want to be a normal Jedi Padawan, but I can’t. The Force did this to me and you can accept it or not. It doesn’t matter to me. I am who I am and I can not change that.”

He was so focused on the Korun Master that he did not pay attention to the silent exchange between Master Yoda and Qui-Gon. The frustration that Obi-Wan was feeling could easily be sensed by the various Council members. The teen sensed his Master’s presence in his mind as Qui-Gon began taking down the shields that he had constructed earlier.

//Master?//

//Trust me.//

The thoughts of the Council began to invade his mind. His gaze fell to the various members as he heard their private comments. Several of them were agreeing with Master Windu while others actually pitied him.

“I don’t need your pity,” Obi-Wan snapped. “I’m not asking for pity! I’m asking for a chance!”

The teen’s voice quivered as he sank to his knees. “I just want a chance. I can learn. Why won’t you give me a chance?” he cried out.

Obi-Wan placed his trembling hands over his ears to try and block out the voices in his mind. He could feel the Force gathering around him, both to comfort him and to protect him. The glass within the chambers began to rattle as the floor walls moaned in protest. The voices in his mind turned from pity and aversion to disbelief.

“Not again!” Obi-Wan screamed over the deafening sounds of the chamber as tiny cracks began to appear in the walls and the floor. “What are you trying to do me? Help me!” the teen sobbed.

He suddenly felt the hands of his Master cupping his tear-stained face.

“Obi-Wan, look at me!” the Jedi instructed. “Look at me!”

The teen could tell the Master was reconstructing the shields in his mind so he would no longer have to hear the thoughts of the Council members. It was then he recognized the familiar presence of Master Yoda as the elder Jedi began to help him harness the power that wanted to consume him. It was as if a warm blanket was covering him, encouraging him to snuggle down in its warmth.

Wow.. That's a powerfull peice. I truly hope that Mace sees that Obi-Wan is helpless in this. It dosn't help me that I love Mace and in here I can actually see him acting like this.. Urgh. It really makes me want to beat some sense into the council and if someone gets hurt, so be it!

ZaraValinor: Obi-Wan needs all the allies he can get.

Yes, he does! Thanks so much for reading! hugs

callista_gseran: You never do actually mention what the council members see as the Force consumes Obi-wan....Might be interesting to see that Loving it. I knew there was a reason I always liked Yoda

You'll get to see what the Council members saw in the next post. As for Yoda, what's not to like? grin

Bastet: Loved the Council scene, but I'm finding myself liking Mace Windu less and less.

Mace will get his own serving of humble pie before too much longer. wink

So now they know what he's capable of, but hopefully they realize that they can't upset Obi without upsetting the Force even more!

And they don't want to upset the Force! grin

That was a great post, jedidas! The perfect thing to come home to after another long day at work.

blush Thank you so much for your kind words!

JediKaren: I gather the end of the story is coming soon?

Probably sooner than most people think, but I'm pretty sure that there will be a sequel set in the future years with Obi and Ani.

Cole_Kenobi: Loved the line where Qui-gon states it wasn't his first or won't be his last reprimand from the Council. lol

He was only speaking the truth! laugh

dianethx: Great job! I wonder what's going to happen next!

That's the good thing about being my Master...you'll get to find out before everyone else! Thanks so much for all you do. hugs

Tatooine_Ghost: Thank you so much. blush

bek: They may have hooked the council, now they just need to reel them in.

Yep and that's about to happen in the next post.

Having seen the force in action through Obi-Wan, the council should now have a better understanding of why so many feel so strongly about the teen becoming a Jedi Knight and in the process learning how to better control that which would otherwise control him. But what will they decide?

That's probably coming in the next post as well. wink

Obi-Wan did really well under Mace's scrutiny. He even withstood the Master's inquisition as to his relationship with Siri. He behaved like the Jedi Knight he was born to be.

That's our Obi! love

Magier: Poor Obi-Wan. I think Jedi compassion has escaped some on the Council. Seems like Mace needs to do a little meditating.

Mace and the Council will come to that realization. Of course, Mace may have to mediate for years to get over this! wink

Thank you so much. hugs I'm so glad you enjoyed them. The trust that Obi-Wan now has in Qui-Gon has come a long way since the first story, so maybe that seems why he could do it so easily. wink

Gkilkenny: Hopefully Mace will come to his senses, dont forget there is an evil man out there waiting for Obi-Wan.

Mace will come around just as Plo Koon did, but there will still be the question in the back of his mind whether they did the right thing or not. Obi-Wan still has a lot to prove. worried

You've done some heavy reading! Thank you so much for your kind words. blush I'm so glad you liked it.

Qui-Gina-Jinn: I do that stuff all the time. Thank you for your kind words. hugs I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

As promised, the next post is up. Just two or three more chapters to go!

Part 49

The members of the Council watched with great interest as Master Jinn and Master Healer Nathe assisted Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Council chambers. The young man had been weakened by his experience, his complete exhaustion felt by everyone in the room. They had each been a witness to something magnificent, yet they were at a loss to explain what exactly had happened.

As the Force began to consume the teen, a brilliance had surrounded Obi-Wan that could not be seen with the naked eye, but they could sense it within themselves. The light known as Obi-Wan Kenobi nearly blinded them.

They had felt the magnitude of the young man’s power as the floor began to quake and the windows started to rattle. The Council realized that if obi-Wan had unleashed the full impact of his power, the damage done to the chambers and to themselves could have been catastrophic. The Council members didn’t feel that the youth would hurt them intentionally, but the Padawan had warned them that he could not control it. Now they understood.

As the door closed, the various members fixed their gaze on the two senior Councilors. An eerie silence filled the room as they waited for either Master Yoda or Master Windu to speak. They were very much aware of how Yoda felt and were now inclined to agree with the elder Jedi. However, Master Windu was a formidable man who could be very persuasive when he firmly believed that he was right.

“A decision we must make,” Yoda announced as he took his seat. “Seen you have why the boy should remain. Is there any further discussion?”

“I would like to say something.” Mace Windu cleared his throat as the other members of the Council patiently waited for the Master to begin.

“Proceed, Master Windu. Listen we shall.”

“Thank you, Master Yoda.”

The Council could sense the reluctance on Mace’s part as he blew out a breath and met their gaze with his own dark eyes. They wondered if he had been as amazed by what they had seen as they were.

“I’m not exactly sure where to start,” the Councilor began. “All of a sudden I’m not sure of anything. I thought that I had everything figured out, including what to do with Padawan Kenobi. I had seen the effects of his power before, but it wasn’t until I saw what the Force demanded of that boy did I realize how hardened I had become.

“As Jedi, we have the Force at our disposal. However, Padawan Kenobi is at the beckon call of the Force. The Force literally speaks through this young man. Yoda and Qui-Gon were right. Padawan Kenobi needs our help and our protection. Until he learns how to control this gift of the Force, he is susceptible to those who would not have his best interests in mind.

“I was wrong and that is difficult for me to admit. I am still uncertain of the Padawan’s place in the Jedi Order, but the Force has ordained that he should remain. As a Jedi, I must follow the will of the Force. We must all follow its will.”

One by one, the Council members nodded in agreement. They had all learned something today; not only about Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Force, but about themselves as well.

“Well said, Master Windu,” the ancient Master applauded. “Searched your feelings you have. Do the same others must. Follow our example they will. Now that we have agreed that Padawan Kenobi should remain in the Order, decide how best to help the boy we must.”

The Council began to quietly discuss the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi. There were no words of anger or bitterness, only words of hope as an undivided Council considered what they could do to help this young man that was cherished by the Force.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qui-Gon pulled the blanket up over his apprentice, making sure that the teen was warm and comfortable. As he studied the peaceful expression on the young man’s face, he couldn’t help but notice the dark circles under Obi-Wan’s eyes indicating the deep exhaustion that had overwhelmed him.
“He should rest for a while,” Master Nathe stated in a hushed tone, interrupting the Jedi Master’s private musings.
The Jedi nodded his head. “He needs it. I should not have allowed him to face the Council. He wasn’t ready.”
“Maybe not, but at least they know what he has to deal with,” the healer pointed out.
“I guess so. I just wish that Mace would have just taken my word and the testimony of the others and left Obi-Wan alone. It took a lot out of him to stand before the Council.”
The Jedi watched the healer’s every movement as Nathe checked the youth’s vitals. Apparently the Master Healer was satisfied with his findings as he entered the information on his data pad and then sat down in the chair next to Qui-Gon.
“I saw their eyes,” the healer said. “When the Force was channeling itself through Obi-Wan, the recognition in the Council’s eyes was instantaneous. They knew that the Force was using Obi-Wan in a very special and unique way.”
“I hope they realize how much that little exhibition cost him.”
“You may be surprised.”
“I hope so,” Qui-Gon softly replied, his gaze falling back on the still form of his Padawan.
There was no doubt in Qui-Gon’s mind that the Force truly loved his apprentice. The Jedi didn’t fully understand why the Force had chosen Obi-Wan as the recipient of such a tremendous gift, but the fact remained that it had. Now all the teen had to do was figure out how to use this power. Of course, he wouldn’t have to do it alone; Qui-Gon would be by the boy’s side.
Leaning back in his chair, he glanced over at the healer who was intently studying his data pad.
“Something interesting?” the Jedi Master inquired.
“I’m just reviewing Obi-Wan’s chart,” Nathe casually answered.
“Anything I should know about? Like maybe his midichlorian count?”
“I forgot to tell you, didn’t I?” the healer teased.
Qui-Gon shrugged. “I assume you had your reasons besides the fact that you’re becoming forgetful in your old age.”
“If I have become forgetful, it is because my patience has been sorely tested by a certain stubborn Jedi Master.”
“You really shouldn’t speak ill of Master Yoda. After all, he truly is old.”
Qui-Gon and Nathe laughed amongst themselves, each appreciating the brief respite from the stress hof the past few months.
“Of course you know that if Master Yoda discovers that I’ve called him old, I’ll know who told him,” the Jedi Master retorted.
“He’ll never hear it from me,” the Master Healer promised as he handed Qui-Gon his data pad.
Qui-Gon scanned the information until he found what he was looking for. He arched his eyebrow as he reread the part that pertained to Obi-Wan’s midichlorian count.
“Over 17,000?” he asked incredulously.
“Impressive, isn’t it?”
“Unbelievable is more of the word I was looking for.”
“Considering that just a few months ago, his count was severely depleted, all I can figure is that the Force somehow rejuvenated and replenished his midichlorians,” Nathe explained.
“I still can’t believe it.” Nodding his head towards Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon asked, “Does he know what his count is?”
“Not yet. I was going to leave that up to you.”
“I will tell him. There will be no secrets between us.”
“I’ll leave this to your discretion then.”
The sound of the door opening prevented the Jedi Master from responding. Rising from his seat, he greeted Master Ru’tan. He had not seen the soul healer since they had returned, but he knew that she would make an appearance sooner or later.
“Master Ru’tan, to what do we owe the pleasure?”
“Why wasn’t I informed that Obi-Wan was going to appear before the Council?” she wanted to know. “He is still my patient.”
“We really didn’t have time,” Qui-Gon tried to reason, knowing that his excuse sounded weak.
The Jedi Master palmed open the door and motioned for Miranda to join him outside the room. He did not wish to disturb his Padawan’s well deserved slumber. Qui-Gon didn’t need the Force to tell him that the soul healer was annoyed and frustrated.
Following Master Ru’tan out into the corridor, Qui-Gon paused long enough to ask Master Nathe if he would stay with Obi-Wan. Satisfied that the young man would be looked after, he joined Miranda, steeling himself for the storm that was about to break.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Siri was tired of trying to meditate. After several failed attempts, she decided that it was a waste of time and shoved her mat back under her bed. Sitting cross-legged on her bed, she stared at the far wall as her thoughts turned to Obi-Wan. She desperately wanted to see him so he could tell her that everything would be all right. The young girl knew in her heart that something was wrong, but she didn’t know what.

There was no doubt in her mind that she and Obi-Wan needed to talk. Her Master had made many valid points about why their relationship shouldn’t continue, but there was still the fact that she still loved Obi-Wan Kenobi and he loved her. He had already made it clear that whatever happened, he would not lose her. Siri had also been adamant that she would stay by his side and she would not go back on her word.

Were they being selfish? Were they throwing away their future? Did Obi-Wan even have a future in the Jedi? These questions were playing over and over in her mind, creating doubts that had never existed before. She shook her head as she pushed those thoughts away. Their love for each other would overcome any obstacles.

Pushing herself up off the bed, she picked up her robe and slipped it on. She needed to get out of this room. As she quickly made her way across the common area to the door, her Master’s reprimand echoed in her memory. She couldn’t leave because she had been restricted to quarters. Siri couldn’t disobey her Master again. Taking her robe off, she flung it disgustedly across the couch as she fell back into the nearest chair.

“Obi-Wan,” she whispered.

The door chime sounded startling the young girl from her reverie. She stood up and went to the comm unit by the door.

“Yes?” she inquired.

“Siri, it’s Bant,” came the shy reply.

Siri opened the door and motioned for her friend to come in. The blonde Padawan felt a knot beginning to form in her stomach. Was something wrong with Obi-Wan?

“What’s wrong?” she eagerly asked the Mon Calamarian.

“Nothing,” Bant answered. “I thought I would just come to see you. We haven’t had much of a chance to talk since we came home.”

“Then Obi-Wan’s all right?”

Siri knew that she must have sounded rude by not even greeting her friend, but when Bant had unexpectedly shown up, the girl had assumed the worst. She followed Bant with anxious eyes as the Calamarian took a seat.

“Bant, Obi-Wan is all right, isn’t he?” Siri repeated.

“As far as I know. He was getting ready to appear before the Council.”

“What? He’s not ready! What are they thinking?” Siri began to pace the floor. “Is he still up there?”

“I don’t know. But I did see him right before he went in,” Bant said. “Except for being tired, he said he was all right.”

“I hope so.”

Siri continued to pace for several minutes. She was aware that Bant probably thought she had lost her mind. “I’ve got to see him.”

“Well, go see him,” Bant urged.

“I can’t. I’m restricted to quarters.”

“Why?”

“It’s a long story,” Siri replied, hoping that Bant would not press the issue. She really wasn’t in the mood for revisiting the conversation that had taken place earlier that day. All she was interested in was seeing Obi-Wan.

The blonde apprentice abruptly stopped pacing as her gaze fell on the Mon Calamarian. She sat down next to Bant and began to plead for the Mon Calamarian’s help.

“Bant, you’ve got to go see Obi-Wan. I have to know that he’s all right.”

“He’s not allowed any visitors right now,” Bant reminded her friend.

“I’m sure that Master Jinn would let you see him,” Siri countered. “Please you’ve got to try.”

“Fine,” the Calamarian reluctantly agreed. “I’ll try, but I’m not going to promise anything.”

Siri breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you. Now, will you give him something?”

“What?”

“A note?”

“Siri,” Bant started to protest.

“Please?”

“All right.”

“Thank you so much. Wait here and I’ll be right back.”

Siri ran into her room. Grabbing a piece of paper and a pen, she hastily scribbled a note to Obi-Wan. After a few minutes, she folded it up and rejoined Bant in the common area.

“Thank you so much, Bant.”

“Don’t thank me yet. I haven’t gotten in to see him.”

Siri walked Bant to the door, thanking her one more time. She opened the door for the Mon Calamarian and watched her head down the corridor to the lift. Now, all she had to was wait for Bant to get the note to Obi-Wan. Sitting down on the couch, she stared at the door. She had waited most of her teen years for Obi-Wan Kenobi; she could wait a couple more hours.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obi-Wan sat up in bed, his sleep interrupted by something unexplainable. He glanced around the room looking for the source of what had disturbed him, but found nothing but the concerned healer who was now standing over him.
“Padawan Kenobi? Are you all right?” Nathe gently asked.
“I think so. I must have been dreaming. I…I guess it was a dream. I don’t remember anything, just that it was dark.”
“You didn’t seem distressed while you were sleeping,” the healer observed. “It must have come on rather quickly.”
“I don’t know. It’s not important now.” Obi-Wan didn’t want any more fuss made over him. It was time that he stood on his own two feet. However, convincing the Healer and his Master of that fact was going to be difficult.
Not seeing his Master, Obi-Wan reached out through their bond.
//Master?//
//Padawan, are you all right? You’re supposed to be sleeping.//
//I just woke up. I had a dream.//
// I thought I felt something. Are you all right?//
//I’m fine.//
//I’ll be right there.//
//Where are you?//
//I’m speaking with Master Ru’tan at the moment. She is a little upset that we failed to tell her that you were appearing before the Council.//
//Don’t let me interrupt. I’ll be right here when you’re done, Master. May the Force be with you, Master.//
//Imp.//
Obi-Wan smiled as he slowly exhaled, trying to calm down his racing heart. He hadn’t wanted to admit to the Master that he had a dream, but they had agreed not to keep secrets from each other. The teen felt as if he had given his Master enough to worry about.
“Are you certain that you are all right?” the healer inquired once again.
“I’m fine. I think I’d like to sit up for a while, at least until after I eat.”
“I’ll order you a tray.”
“Thank you, Master Nathe.”
Obi-Wan allowed the healer to help him up into a sitting position before he placed the order for some food. A soft rap at the door caught the teen’s attention. He reached out and felt the familiar presence of Bant.
“Come in,” he called out.
He smiled at the sight of his dear friend. Obi-Wan hadn’t really seen her since they had returned to the Temple except for their brief exchange outside the Council chambers and he was glad to see a friendly face. He appreciated the fact that his Master and Master Nathe were trying to protect him, but Obi-Wan missed his friends.
“Bant, it’s good to see you again.”
He reached out to her and she fell into his arms.
“I didn’t know if you would be back yet,” she stated. “I thought I would take my chances.”
“I’m glad you’re here.”
“How did it go?”
“I don’t know. We’ll see.”
Obi-Wan didn’t want to discuss his experience before the Council. Truthfully, he didn’t remember a lot of what happened, but he still wanted to put everything behind him. He glanced over his shoulder at Master Nathe’s disapproving glare.
“Just for a few minutes?” Obi-Wan pleaded.
“Five minutes,” Nathe declared as he stepped out of the room.
“So, how have you been?” he asked Bant.
“I’m fine. I’ve just been worried about you.”
“I’ll be fine,” he assured her. “You seem a little nervous.”
“I just saw Siri and…”
“Is she all right? I was so afraid that after…just tell me if she’s all right?”
“What is it with you two?” the exasperated Calamarian wanted to know as she pulled the note out of her belt and gave it to Obi-Wan. “It’s from Siri. She can’t come see you right now. She’s been restricted to quarters.”
Obi-Wan nodded his thanks as he opened the note and read it.
Obi-Wan,
Just know that no matter what I love you. Everything is going to work out. We’ve got a lot to talk about and I can’t wait to see you again.
Love,
Siri
Obi-Wan folded up the note as he stared at his friend. He had no right to involve Bant in what he was about to do, but the plan wouldn’t work without her assistance.
“Bant, you’ve got to help me…”
Seeing is believing! Glad the Council came to their senses.
But now if it's not one thing, it's another! Poor Bant, having to be the go-between! Wonder if she knows what's going on?
Yay, another great update! grin
Am glad the council and Mace in particular, seem to be coming to their senses about Obi-Wan happy
Wonder what will happen if either Adi or Qui-Gon figures out that Siri is sending notes and Obi-Wan is up to something.... thinking
Am sad there's only little left sad
I love your writing so I, too, hope you'll do a sequel to the sequel wink
