Awwwww..
That is the best nickname that Qui-Gon will ever have..
It's in so many stories, but every time I read him calling Obi that it just gives me warm fuzzies!
I'm glad Qui came 'round with the secrets..
Ahhh. Siri, Siri, Siri.. You're a JEDI, girlena.
Make to most of it and act like Qui and Tahl..
Just don't get caught..
Fantastic update, jedidas!
I enjoyed it..
I was on maybe the 85th page of fanfics and it just hit me that you were updating today!!
You made my day!
-waits impatiently for next update-

Oh boy... I can't tell whether good or bad is going to come from this thing between Obi-Wan and Siri... and I'm dearly hoping that Qui-Gon will handle it correctly if/when it comes up ...
But at least the council figured out Obi needs to stay with the Jedi. And I can't help but compare this situation to Anakin's in TPM...
I'm guessing you did that on purpose...
By any chance will Ani show up any at all in this version?
I'm not overly fond of canon Ani, cuz, well, he turns into a Sith and all that, but in fanfiction he's pretty decent usually... but I still greatly prefer Obi-Wan.

Woohoo, great update!
Well, well, the Council has had a charge of heart, have they?
I'm glad Mace finally seems to have come to his senses! Hooray for humble pie!
“I was wrong and that is difficult for me to admit. I am still uncertain of the Padawan’s place in the Jedi Order, but the Force has ordained that he should remain. As a Jedi, I must follow the will of the Force. We must all follow its will.”
Or else!
//I’m speaking with Master Ru’tan at the moment. She is a little upset that we failed to tell her that you were appearing before the Council.//
//Don’t let me interrupt. I’ll be right here when you’re done, Master. May the Force be with you, Master.//
//Imp.//
Obi-Wan folded up the note as he stared at his friend. He had no right to involve Bant in what he was about to do, but the plan wouldn’t work without her assistance.
“Bant, you’ve got to help me…”
What's he up to, I wonder? I hope it won't get him in trouble!
There's only two or three posts of this wonderful story left?!
Well, at least the other story you're writing doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.

It sounds like the old Obi-Wan is shining through.
Hope whatever he has planned doesn't put him at odds with Qui-Gon.
I know this has been asked before, and I'm sure I've overlooked it somewhere, but how old are Obi-Wan and Siri?

I'm so glad Mace has come around. I hated him at odds with Yoda, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan. Wonderful update.

Gkilkenny:
So only a few chapters left, I am sad, this is a great story.
Thank you so much!
Perhaps there may be a sequel about the trouble two
young Padawans can get into because they love each other
The sequel may not focus on that, but I'm sure young love will pop up somewhere.
And there is still some evil out there.
Absolutely...
Tatooine_Ghost:
Thank you so much!
ratna:
Seeing is believing! Glad the Council came to their senses.
Yep! It's about time!
But now if it's not one thing, it's another! Poor Bant, having to be the go-between! Wonder if she knows what's going on?
LOL, she probably has a good idea. She should have just stayed home!
Qui-Gina-Jinn:
Am sad there's only little left
I love your writing so I, too, hope you'll do a sequel to the sequel
Thank you for your kind words!
A sequel to the sequel is in the works!
monkeykelci:

Ani will show up in the planned sequel when the time jumps ahead quite a few years. Truthfully, I prefer Obi as well!
Bastet:

Well, at least the other story you're writing doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.
Nope and don't worry, this one will continue in the sequel. Also, I've got some other stories up my sleeve!
bek:

Things will work out...hopefully
I know this has been asked before, and I'm sure I've overlooked it somewhere, but how old are Obi-Wan and Siri?
Obi is 16 and Siri is almost 15.
ZaraValinor:
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you all for your kind words. I hope that each of you realize how much I appreciate your support and encouragement. I'll be working on the next post this weekend. Thanks again.

Wow, awesome post!
I'm glad to know that Mace (finally) realized the importance of having Obi in the Order. That should make things a lot easier for him.
Excellent that Obi's midichlorians are up again! He is certainly recovering well.
Eeep. I'm worried about what Obi's plan is. I hope it will work...
Great job here! This is excellent!

The wait is over!
Here's the next post!
Part 50
Healer Miranda Ru’tan was not happy. She had just discovered that her young patient had appeared before the Council without consulting her. She wasn’t sure what Master Jinn and Master Yoda had hoped to prove by letting Obi-Wan give his testimony so soon, but she intended to find out. The soul healer had thought that she and Qui-Gon had come to an understanding; apparently she was wrong.
She glared at the Jedi Master standing before her, attempting to tamp down the frustration she was feeling towards Qui-Gon Jinn.
“Just answer this question,” Miranda began. “Tell me what you were hoping to accomplish by letting Obi-Wan appear before the Council? He was not ready.”
“I think you’re underestimating him,” Qui-Gon softly answered, hoping to quell the healer’s anger. “Actually, I think that we have all underestimated him.”
“You took a tremendous chance.”
“Believe me Master Ru’tan, if I thought that Obi-Wan was in any danger, I would have stopped the proceedings immediately. I had my doubts initially, but realized that perhaps allowing Obi-Wan to speak before the Council was the only way that they were going to see that he should be a Jedi. Besides, Master Yoda and Master Nathe were present.”
“Still, his mind could have irrevocably damaged. He wasn’t ready!”
“The ultimate decision was Obi-Wan’s. He has the right to make up his own mind.”
“You’re his Master; you could have told him no,” she argued.
“I suppose I could have, but then he would’ve felt that I didn’t trust him,” the Jedi countered. “What would that have done to him? Do you realize how difficult it has been to gain that boy’s trust?”
“I know, but…”
“You truly have no idea. For every inch of ground I gain with him, I lose a foot. It has taken months to even begin to undo what that monster Elad did to him, so do not pretend to have any idea what we’ve been through!”
The soul healer was taken back by Qui-Gon’s abruptness. She had been right there with them, watching the Master and Padawan forge their relationship despite nearly impossible odds. Part of Miranda resented the Jedi Master for his insinuations. She did understand, perhaps not on a personal level, but professionally, she had watched their struggle to breach the chasm between them.
“I would have to disagree, Master Jinn,” she coolly replied. “However, I’m not going to debate this with you. I just want what’s best for Obi-Wan.”
“As do I.”
Miranda couldn’t hide the smile that quickly spread across her face. She laughed as the tall Jedi Master stared at her; his expression was one of confusion.
“I think we’ve had this conversation before.”
It was only a few seconds before Qui-Gon’s smile matched her own.
“I think you’re right,” Qui-Gon grinned.
The healer tucked her hair behind her ears and then smoothed her robe. “I apologize if I was out of line.”
“No apology is necessary,” the Jedi assured her. “You are just looking out for Obi-Wan; how can I find fault with that? But, I do offer my apologies for my outburst. I know you want to help my apprentice and I should have at least informed you of our intentions. I will do my best in the future to be sure that you are aware of anything that could possibly affect his mental well being.”
“I guess there’s a reason why you are considered to be one of the best negotiators in the Jedi Temple; you certainly have a way with words,” Miranda said.
“Does that mean you’ll accept my apology?”
“Of course. Thank you, Master Jinn.”
She started to leave, but a young Calamarian entering Obi-Wan’s room caught the healer’s attention.
“It looks like your Padawan has some company,” she commented.
“What?”
Miranda pointed towards Padawan Eerin as the door closed behind her.
“He’s not really supposed to have visitors yet,” Qui-Gon mumbled to himself.
“I think that it would be fine. I have a feeling that Obi-Wan would enjoy a visit from one of his friends.”
“I suppose you’re right.”
“Master Nathe must approve.” Miranda nodded her head in the direction of the Master Healer as he exited the teen’s room and made his way towards them.
“I gave them five minutes,” Nathe stated, glancing about the room. “I see the walls are still standing.”
“What are you talking about?” Qui-Gon asked.
“When the two of you decide to argue, it usually reverberates the walls of whatever room you are in. I figured it wouldn’t be any different this time.”
“We’ve reached an understanding,” Miranda said. “Right, Master Jinn?”
“Yes, we have.”
Miranda politely bowed to Qui-Gon and Master Nathe. “Now if you’ll both excuse me, I have things to do.”
The healer left Master Jinn and Master Nathe talking quietly. She was grateful that she and Qui-Gon had reconciled their differences. She knew that Obi-Wan Kenobi still had a long road to travel and he would continue to need the support of everyone, including one very persistent soul healer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bant studied the lines of concentration on her friend’s face. Part of her was happy to see the mischievous glint in Obi-Wan’s eyes that had been missing for far too long; but at the same time, she was very wary of what was stirring around in Obi-Wan’s mind.
“Do you want me to take a note back to her?” Bant hoped that delivering another letter was all she had to do. Judging from the expression on the young man’s face, she doubted it would be that easy.
“I need to see her,” he declared.
“Obi, you can’t. She’s restricted to quarters,” Bant tried to reason.
“I know that, but I have to figure something out. I need to see her. I need to hear her voice. I need to talk to her.”
“Writing a note would be the safest thing.”
“I have too much I want to say.”
“You’re both going to get into trouble by sneaking around. Why don’t you just ask Master Gallia for permission to talk to her?”
“Like that will ever happen,” he snorted.
“Why do you say that?”
She thought that she saw a slight pinkish tinge color Obi-Wan’s cheeks.
“Master Qui-Gon caught us kissing and he told Siri to go and tell her Master. I figure that’s why she’s restricted to quarters.”
“Obi, you know the rules,” Bant gently chastised her friend.
“I know. But I can’t deny my love for Siri. I won’t deny it,” he vowed.
“You may have to, especially if the Council decides that you can stay.”
The Calamarian saw the sparkle that had been present fade from his eyes as concern now filled them.
“I don’t think I’ll really have to be worried about that,” he whispered. “They aren’t going to change their minds.”
“You don’t know that. You may be surprised.”
“I don’t want to even think about it right now. I’m tired of thinking about it. The only thing that matters right now is Siri.”
It wasn’t until he uttered his last words, did Bant realize the depth of Obi-Wan’s feelings for Siri. Even though she knew that attachment was forbidden, the Mon Calamarian found herself wishing that her two friends could find a way to be together.
“What do you want me to do?”
“Tell Siri to see if she can find a way to our place tomorrow morning before classes. She’ll know what I’m talking about. I’ll do the same,” Obi-Wan pledged.
“How are you going to do that?”
“I don’t know. I’ll think of something.”
Upon hearing the door open, Bant mouthed, “I’ll see what I can do.”
She leaned over and quickly hugged Obi-Wan as he whispered his thanks. Pulling out of the young man’s embrace, Bant greeted Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
“I was uh…just leaving, Master Jinn,” she stammered, thankful that her salmon colored skin hid that fact that she was now blushing. Maybe one day, she could actually talk to the Jedi Master without stuttering.
“It’s quite all right, Padawan Eerin. I’m sure Obi-Wan appreciated your visit. I hope that you will come back and see him.”
Bant bowed to the Master. “Thank you, Master Jinn.”
She squeezed Obi-Wan’s hand, communicating with the single touch that she would remember her promise to help her dearest friend.
“I’ll see you later, Obi.”
“Bye and thanks again. A good friend, you are.”
“Care for you I do.”
Once again, she bowed to the Master Jedi. Bant hastily excused herself, leaving Master Jinn and Obi-Wan alone. She had to go back and deliver Obi-Wan’s message to Siri. Bant hoped that once the two of them had an opportunity to talk, that they would listen to the Force and make the right decision regarding their future.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So, we are all in agreement?” Mace Windu asked the other members of the Council. His dark eyes waited for each individual response before finally coming to rest on Master Yoda.
“Agreed we are,” the tiny Master confirmed. “Tell the boy I will. Master Windu, accompany me, you will.”
Mace stared at the elder Jedi. The last thing he wanted to do was face Obi-Wan Kenobi. It was difficult enough to confess to a panel of his peers that he had been wrong, but it was going to be much more demanding on the Jedi Master to have to apologize to a sixteen year old boy. He wasn’t ready and he doubted the Padawan Kenobi was ready to accept his platitudes. Mace knew that if the situations were reversed, that he probably wouldn’t be so easy to forgive.
“I don’t think that you need me to tag along, Master Yoda,” Mace said.
“As a senior Council member, you must. I insist.”
Before Mace could reply, Yoda had dismissed the Council. The members wasted no time leaving the chambers, save for Master Windu and Yoda. Mace rose from his seat, now glaring at the ancient Master.
“Is this another one of your schemes?” he finally inquired. “Because if it is, I’m going to find you a hobby. What do you want to accomplish by forcing me to go with you to see Padawan Kenobi? I’m sure that I am the last person that he wants to see.”
“A lesson you have already learned today, but yet another lesson there is to discover.”
“And that is?”
“One of forgiveness,” the small Master replied. “To move on with the future, we must put the past behind us. Surprised you will be when you sense the boy’s forgiving spirit. It is genuine.”
“Forgiving is one thing, forgetting is another.”
“Time will help with that. Resolved this issue must be before the Jedi can move on. Room for hard feelings, there is not!”
Mace sighed, knowing that it was useless to argue with Yoda. He had tried it before and the results had always been the same. It was difficult to disagree with someone who had been a Jedi for over eight hundred years.
“Very well,” he relented. “I just hope that you know what you’re doing.”
“Hmm…doubt me, you do?”
Noting the slight drooping of Yoda’s ears, Mace shook his head. “Of course not.” The Korun Master gestured for Yoda to join him and the two of them slowly headed towards the lift that would take them to the healer’s wing.
The two of them rode in silence, a fact for which Mace was very thankful for because it gave him a chance to consider what he was going to say to the Padawan and to the boy’s Master. It was no secret that his long time friendship with Qui-Gon had been strained during the whole ordeal with Obi-Wan. A rift had been created and Mace knew that he had to be the one to initiate the healing process. He just hoped that Master Yoda was right and that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon would be willing to listen to him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Did you have a nice visit with Bant?” Qui-Gon inquired, taking his customary seat beside Obi-Wan’s bed.
“Yes Master. It was good to see her.”
“Her visit has obviously lifted your spirits,” he observed.
“Bant has a way of doing that. She’s a good friend.”
“I see that. Perhaps tomorrow, she could come by again, or maybe Garen.”
Qui-Gon saw the teen’s face brighten even more at the mention of Padawan Muln’s name.
“I’d love to see Garen. The last time I saw him, well, he didn’t look that great.”
“He is almost fully recovered now. I’ll speak to Master Rhara and see if he can perhaps come down tomorrow.”
“Master? Do you think it would be all right if maybe Garen and I went for a walk in the morning?”
The Jedi Master noted the hopefulness in the teen’s voice. Qui-Gon realized that having to stay within these four walls was probably wearing on the boy’s nerves. However, he was hesitant about letting Obi-Wan out of his sight until the young man learned to consistently control the Force.
“Please Master?” Obi-Wan begged.
“I don’t know if that is such a good idea. Either myself or Master Yoda needs to be with you just in case you…”
“Master, I’ll be all right,” the teen interjected, not wanting to hear the Master’s explanation for why he couldn’t leave his room. “I just want to go to the gardens or something. If I feel it happening, Garen can call you.”
“I’ll compromise with you,” the Jedi Master offered. “I’ll allow it, but I will follow close behind just in case you need me.”
“Thank you, Master.”
Qui-Gon thought that he sensed a hint of disappointment in his voice. He understood the need for Obi-Wan to have time with his friends, but things were still too precarious right now. The young man was still vulnerable, especially now that he had the added burden of being able to sense the thoughts of others. The Jedi Master knew that it would take a while for others to overcome their fear of his Padawan. Right now, he had to protect Obi-Wan, until the teen could protect himself.
“I won’t stay too close,” the Master promised. “I know that you have a lot to talk about. Is there anywhere that you particularly want to go?”
“Yes Master. There’s a small garden near the training salles that I always admired. It’s small and private and…”
“I know the one you speak of. It is quite beautiful. I’ll call Master Rhara shortly and make sure that it is all right.”
“Thank you, Master.”
The door opened and one of the Padawans that worked in the healer’s wing brought Obi-Wan his tray. Nodding his thanks, Qui-Gon took it from her and set on the small roll away table in front of the youth.
“Here you go, my Padawan. Can I get you anything else?” the Jedi asked, delighted to see the young man hungrily devouring the food on his plate.
“No thank you,” Obi-Wan replied through a mouthful of bread.
Qui-Gon Jinn laughed at his famished apprentice. “It’s good that you’ve got your appetite back.”
The sound of the door swooshing open once again interrupted the Master and Padawan’s conversation. Qui-Gon felt the teen’s apprehension, as Obi-Wan placed his fork back on his tray when Master Yoda and Master Windu walked in the room. He reached out across the bond, gently brushing his Padawan’s mind.
//I think I’ve lost my appetite again.//
//Everything will be fine.//
//I don’t know about this.//
//Trust me.//
Qui-Gon stood up to greet the two senior Jedi, making sure that the shields he had erected around Obi-Wan’s mind earlier were still intact. He didn’t want the boy picking up any negative thoughts that may be directed at him. The Jedi respectfully bowed to Mace and Yoda.
“Masters, to what do we owe this visit?”
“A decision has been reached,” Yoda announced.
Qui-Gon moved closer to his Padawan, hoping that the youth wasn’t picking up on his own doubts and insecurities. It had taken the Jedi Master by surprise when he saw Mace accompanying Yoda. He placed his hand on Obi-Wan’s shoulder, sending him waves of reassurance as they waited to hear what the young man’s future would be.
Obi-Wan better rein in that love of his for siri. The Jedi will never allow it, no matter what he wants. LOL on the mind healer being mad at Qui-Gon.
Good job.
It sounds like Obi-Wan will be allowed to remain - and then get himself and Siri kicked out.
Wonderful update - loved the argument between Rutan and Qui, too.
Will there be a sequel - Obi-Wan confronting the true villain? There are still loose ends to tie up, you know.
Wonderful update as always.
