Well, I'm glad Obi didn't get himself into trouble with his scheming, but since Qui knew all along, I guess I really didn't have to worry anyway.
*Sigh* Young love.
I hope Siri and Obi do the right thing, since unfortunately the Jedi won't let them have their cakes and eat them too. (Like someone else I won't mention tried to do...
)
I can't wait to see what happens, and I'm already looking forward to the sequel!

They both know that their place is with the Jedi.
You have written their angst about the situation well.
I am sure there will be tears, but they will do what is right.
Wonderful post.

Obi-Wan didn't resist when she leaned up and kissed him. The feel of her delicate lips against his was almost too much for him to bear. He wanted to gather her in his arms and never let her go, but instead he pulled away from her and stared into her beautiful eyes.
“We have to talk.”
Those four dreaded words. I am glad that Obi realizes what he has to do but will he do it? After all, he's young and in love and the Order hasn't been exactly nice to him
Great job.

It seems as though Obi has already made his decision. I think this is going to be hard for Siri, but I hope that she will see that Obi-Wan needs to be trained and stay with the Jedi.

Poor kids; just when it seems things are getting back on track for them, something happens to cause another detour.
This trip may be just what Obi-Wan needs.

Wow! What a great post! They Yoda/Obi/Qui banter was great. Mace's apology was excellent, as well. Its sad that Obi and Siri will have to be apart.
Poor kids...
Well done! I will be sad when this story ends.

Valairy_Scot:
But he doesn't have to actually break her heart - just tell her they're young and for now they have to concentrate on other things. Sure, it won't be easy and it'll still hurt. Just let them love each other without being together and seek solace in the Force. Love tucked within the heart can remain, for as much as young love aches, mature love will warm (or so I'd like to believe).
Don't worry my friend, things will work out...maybe not like Obi and Siri think they should, but it will work out. After all, there is a sequel!
aquamarineblue:
Good that Obi-Wan gets to stay, and I hope the sequel describes some of that "training" you refer to with Qui-gon and Yoda.
Yep, you'll get to see it in the sequel.
I do wonder how one--even a Jedi--learns to tell the difference between their "heart" and "the force"? It would seem this would be especially difficult.
That's one of the things Obi will have to work on.
ZaraValinor:
Good, Obi-Wan gets to stay. But I'm so sorry for their realtionship. She has been his rock through the terrible experience with his former Master.
Don't worry...don't forget the sequel is coming up. She will continue to serve as his rock!
monkeykelci:
That was fantastic, jedidas, I loved it.. The relationship between Obi and Qui keeps on growing and I just LOVE it.
Thank you for your kind words!
callista_gseran:
Thank you. I've worked all weekend on their talk.

Now, who would you be talking about?
I can't wait to see what happens, and I'm already looking forward to the sequel!
Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to writing it as well.
Gkilkenny:
I am sure there will be tears, but they will do what is right.
Tears galore.
Thank you for your kind words!

You've got a point...but then again, he wants to be a Jedi. But the good news is that you'll be the first to know. Thank you so much for all you do, Master.
Magier:
Don't worry, they both will make a very wise decision. I hope!

Sounds like real life, doesn't it?
This trip may be just what Obi-Wan needs.
He will grow a lot in his time away from the Temple, which you will find out in the sequel.
wolf_kenobi:
Don't be too sad. There's a sequel!
Healer_Leona:
Thank you so much.
I've been working all weekend on the last chapter and hopefully you'll get in the next couple of days. It needs a little more tweeking. Thank you all for your support and your patience. I'm so honored to have such loyal readers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

RE: The Best of Intentions (Obi-Qui, AU) Sequel to The Truth Shall Set You Free Updated 05/21!
Here it is! The final post of "The Best of Intentions." I can't believe that this part is actually over. Anyway, not to worry, plans are well underway for the sequel. Thank you all so much for your continued support and encouragement throughout this endeavor. I can't begin to tell you how much I truly appreciate your loyalty and friendship.
I hope you enjoy it!
Part 52
Obi-Wan wished that she wouldn’t look at him like that. He didn’t want to see the pain that would soon replace the sparkle that was usually present in her lovely eyes. He swallowed hard, ignoring the lump that had formed in his throat. He couldn’t do this! Why did he have to choose? Siri had been the one constant in his life and now he was supposed to cast that aside and move on without her.
“Obi-Wan? What is it?” Siri gently asked.
The sound of her voice nearly shattered his heart. He wanted to hold her in his arms forever, hiding from the demands of reality, but the words of his Master played in his mind. Obi-Wan knew that because he did love Siri, he would have to let her go.
“What’s the matter?” she repeated, a bit more strongly. “You are getting to stay, right?”
“Yes,” he mumbled.
“Then what’s wrong?”
Taking a deep breath, Obi-Wan reached out and took Siri’s hand. “In order to stay,” he began, ‘I have to go away for a while with my Master and Master Yoda. They will be teaching me to control whatever this power is, as well as overseeing my other training.
“Where are you going?”
“I don’t know yet. Evidently, the Council doesn’t want a whole lot of people to know where I’ll be.”
“They think you’re still in danger,” Siri said.
Obi-Wan heard the slight quiver in her voice. He was aware that she was trying to be strong for him and part of him felt ashamed. He wanted to be strong for her; he needed to be strong for her.
The young man shrugged. “I don’t know. They probably just don’t me around the Temple until I can control my powers. I’ve already destroyed one room and wreaked havoc in the Council chambers. I’m sure that council doesn’t want to redecorate the Temple every time I have an emotional blow out,” Obi-Wan teased, hoping to lighten the somber mood between them. His attempt at humor failed miserably.
“That’s not funny,” Siri retorted.
He squeezed her hand. “I’m sorry. I just didn’t want you to worry.”
“Of course I’m going to worry about you. I love you.”
Obi-Wan closed his eyes. She had said those three words that he longed to hear. Knowing that Siri loved him had kept him pushing forward when he had wanted to give up.
“I love you, too,” he quietly assured her.
“Then why do I feel as if there is a big but coming?”
He shook his head. “There’s a possibility that I’ll be gone for at least a year, maybe more. Master Qui-Gon and Master Yoda are concerned that I will not be truly focused on my training because…”
“Because of me,” she finished.
“Because of how much I love you.” Obi-Wan ran his hand through his hair. “I thought I could do this, but I can’t lose you.”
“You’ll never lose me,” Siri vowed.
“The Jedi aren’t going to change their rules for us. We have to make a choice.”
“I know.”
The two Padawans sat in silence, neither one wanting to go any further on this path that they were being forced to walk. If Obi-Wan could have made time still so they wouldn’t have to face the truth, he would have without a second thought. He brushed a stray tear from Siri’s cheek.
“Please don’t cry,” he pleaded.
“I can’t help it. I know what we have to do and it’s breaking my heart. We have to say goodbye.”
“No!” Obi-Wan cried out. “Not goodbye.”
“We have to,” Siri argued.
“No. If it means losing you…”
Obi-Wan fought back his own tears as Siri placed her soft fingertips on his lips. Staring at her delicate features, all the reasons that he had fallen in love with her came flooding back to him. Her determination, her love of life, the way her eyes twinkled when she laughed at his corny jokes, the way she would put her hands on her hips when they were arguing, the way she kissed him. He didn’t think he could be satisfied with the memories of a forbidden love. He wanted to share his life with Siri. She had been there for him and now he felt as if he were going to abandon her for his dreams.
“I told you that you would never lose me. I didn’t know what your future held, but if they had dismissed you, I was prepared to leave with you,” Siri admitted. “You’ve never had a chance to be a normal Padawan. Now you have the opportunity to find out what you’ve been missing and it would be selfish of me to take that away from you.”
“Selfish is one thing you’ve never been,” he whispered.
“I don’t know about that,” she sighed. “Part of me wants to go away with you right now and never look back. But when I walked in and looked into your eyes, I knew that you were going to stay. I realized that you deserved the chance to be the Jedi you were meant to be.”
“What about us?” Obi-Wan pressed, unsure if he wanted to hear the answer.
“There can’t be an us. At least now right now,” she grinned.
He drew Siri to him and wrapped his arms around her petite frame. “I’ll keep you in my heart,” Obi-Wan softly murmured into her ear.
“You better, Kenobi.”
“When I come back…”
“I’ll be waiting.”
Obi-Wan lifted her chin until their lips met. Their love for each other was manifested in a single kiss, mingled with tears. They both knew that this would be the last kiss, the last time that they held each other, and the last time they would utter the words, I love you, for a long while.
When Siri pulled away from him, he felt as if she was taking his heart with her. His hand clutched his chest as she began to slowly back away from him.
“You concentrate on being a Jedi. Our time will come,” she said with confidence.
All Obi-Wan could do was stare at the striking young girl. There were no words he could say to thank her for the sacrifice that she was willing to make for him. He didn’t think that he could love her any more that he did right at that moment.
When the door opened, he caught a glimpse of his Master standing just outside his door. He was thankful that Siri didn’t linger, allowing the door to slide shut. Obi-Wan closed his eyes and laid his head back against his pillow. He wasn’t ready to face Qui-Gon or anyone else, but he also knew that he could not postpone the inevitable. He felt a gentle touch through the bond he and Qu-Gon shared.
//Are you all right, my Padawan?//
//No.//
//I’ll let you have a few moments alone. Call me if you need me.//
//Thank you, Master.//
//I’m here if you want to talk.//
//I’m kind of talked out right now.//
//I understand. Whenever you’re ready.//
A hint of a smile escaped from Obi-Wan’s lips. Qui-Gon did understand his need for solitude. The youth still had a difficult time believing that he had let Siri walk out of his life, even temporarily. This was not only going to be a difficult year because of the training he would have to endure; it would be the longest year of his life because he would not be with Siri.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Siri had paused long enough to respectfully bow to Master Jinn, but as soon as she left the healer’s wing, she fled towards her room. She ignored the stares of the other Jedi that she met, her desire for privacy becoming almost overwhelming. As the door opened, she saw her Master standing in the middle of the living room, where she had been waiting for the young girl’s return.
The teen fell into her Master’s arms. She had been holding back her tears ever since she had left Obi-Wan, but now she didn’t have to be strong. Siri felt her Master reach out to her, offering her reassurance as she gently rubbed her back.
“What happened?” the Jedi Master inquired.
It took a few minutes before Siri trusted herself to speak. She wiped her eyes and sat down on the couch, leaning against Adi as her Master sat down beside her.
“The Council is letting him stay.”
“I know. They are sending him away with Master Yoda and Master Jinn.”
Siri nodded. “He’ll be gone for at least a year.”
“So, what did you two decide?”
“I told him to go and become the Jedi he was meant to be. He was ready to give it all up for me and I couldn’t let him.”
“That was a very brave thing that you did. I know that your heart is breaking, but in time, you will see that you and Obi-Wan made the right decision,” encouraged the Jedi Master.
“I hope you’re right. He deserves the chance. When he was with Master Elad, he never got to experience being a Padawan. At least now, he’ll get that chance without having to fear for his life or my life.”
“Why don’t we go out tonight?” Adi suggested. “Just a girl’s night out?”
Siri smiled and nodded. “Can I have a few minutes to freshen up?”
“Take all the time you need. I’ll be waiting.”
The Padawan made her way to her room. She knew that she was expected to handle this like a Jedi and she would. No one else would know her heartache and the flame that she still carried for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The flame would never be extinguished, but would one day burn brighter than the twin suns of Tatooine.
She splashed some water on her face and brushed her hair. Grabbing her robe, she slipped it on. Taking a final look in the mirror, Siri reached up and touched her cheek, where Obi-Wan had gently wiped her tears. “Our time will come,” she whispered. “Our time will come.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qui-Gon had been talking with Master Nathe about how soon Obi-Wan could leave. Even though he still didn’t know where they would be going, the Jedi Master wanted to start preparing for their long sabbatical from the Temple. He had to do something to keep from intruding upon Obi-Wan, who needed some time to himself. The Master was concerned for his Padawan, but there was no doubt in his mind that Obi-Wan and Siri had made the right decision. There would be time for them to talk later; right now he would allow the young man his privacy. His attention turned back to Master Nathe.
“I think that Obi-Wan is strong enough to make the journey any time you are ready. Other than showing signs of fatigue, he is doing remarkably well. Once you get to wherever it is that you are going, I would allow him a day or two of rest before you begin his training.
“I would also like for you to send me a sample of Obi-Wan’s blood once a month so that I can keep a check on his midichlorians,” Nathe instructed. “Of course, if you need me, I am at your disposal anytime.”
“Thank you,” Qui-Gon replied. ‘You’ve been a tremendous help to me and especially to Obi-Wan.”
“He is a very special young man.”
‘Yes, he is,” the Jedi Master agreed.
“One more thing, Master Jinn. Whenever you reach your destination, Master Yoda will be sending for Master Ru’tan. I think it is still very important for Obi-Wan to continue his sessions with Miranda.”
Qui-Gon sighed. “He never really got to spend a whole lot of time with her. I think that it will do him some good to have her around. I’m sure that Obi-Wan will be getting tired of mine and Master Yoda’s company.”
“Then it’s settled. Just tell me when you wish to leave and we’ll have everything ready.”
“I will consult with Master Yoda. I think the sooner we leave, the better. I still sense something is not right,” Qui-Gon proclaimed.
The Jedi Master said his farewell to the Master Healer. Deciding to give Obi-Wan a little more time to himself, Qui-Gon went to his quarters and proceeded packing his and Obi-Wan’s bags. They would not need much for Jedi traveled light. Qui-Gon picked up the young man’s journal, trying to decide what to do with it. He didn’t want to leave it lying around, but yet he wasn’t sure if the boy still wanted it. The Jedi slipped it in Obi-Wan’s bag for the teen to do with it as he saw fit.
Picking up an extra set of clothes for Obi-Wan to change into, he took a final glance around his quarters. He wouldn’t be seeing them for a while, but it didn’t matter. He would be where he belonged. Qui-Gon would be by his Padawan’s side.
Qui-Gon placed a quick call to Master Yoda informing him that they were ready to leave whenever he was. Yoda told the Jedi Master to gather his apprentice and meet him in the hangar bay in two hours. He figured that it would give Obi-Wan time to say his goodbye’s to his other friends.
With a flicker of his hand, Qui-Gon cut off the lights and then entered a new security code on his door. With long, purposeful strides, he headed back towards the healer’s wing. He wasn’t sure what the future held, but it didn’t matter. The Force had opened his eyes and his heart regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi. There would be no more ghosts from his or Obi-Wan’s past to hold them back. He was looking forward to his future, a future that enabled him to discover his legacy in the form of a young boy whose light in the Force was a steady beacon in the changing universe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The dark figure closed his eyes. It was not supposed to happen like this. The prize of Obi-Wan Kenobi should have been his, but that fool Xanatos had failed. He had become careless and now the Jedi had possession of the boy. The shrouded man desperately wanted Obi-Wan Kenobi and his power. He had plans for the youth, plans that he would now have to put on hold.
He would have to be patient. He would have to bide his time. The mysterious man smiled. If there was one thing that he was very good at, it was waiting for the right time to make his move. The day would come when Obi-Wan Kenobi would be his and the Jedi would be no more. Laughter echoed throughout his private chambers. Yes, Kenobi was a prize that would be well worth the wait.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Master and the Padawan stood at the bottom of the ramp of the transport that would take them to their new home. Obi-Wan looked around the hangar bay, knowing that it would be a long time before he graced the doors of the Temple again. He had just said goodbye to Bant and Garen as well as Master Nathe, and even though it had been hard to say farewell to his friends, it hadn’t been as difficult as when he had to part with Siri.
He had been quiet since Qui-Gon had brought him his clothes, but no one seemed to question his silence. In just a few minutes, he would begin a new phase of his life and he was nervous. There were so many things he had to learn and he had no idea what was in store for him.
As Master Yoda approached them, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan bowed. No words were exchanged as the three Jedi turned to board the ship. Glancing back over his shoulder, Obi-Wan saw something standing in the shadows. It was Siri. He stumbled a bit as her presence nearly overwhelmed him. The teen forced himself to put one foot in front of the other as he slowly made his way up the ramp.
He wanted to take her in his arms one last time, but he knew that it wouldn’t be possible. Obi-Wan knew that if he were to hold her again, he would more than likely change his mind. The young man looked straight ahead as he entered the ship. There was no looking back now. All he had was the future and thoughts of the future was now his motivation. He would take that motivation and work harder than he ever had in his whole life to be the Jedi that he knew he could be. The Jedi that he should be. The Jedi that he wanted to be. It would not be easy, he knew that much. But with his Master and Master Yoda at his side, he would not have to do it alone.
As he sat down in one of the seats by the window, he peered out to see if Siri was still standing there. He could no longer see her, but that was perhaps for the best. He still loved her and she loved him. She had told him that their time would come and he had to cling to that hope. Hope had brought him this far, surely it would see him through to the end.
“Are you ready, Padawan?” Qui-Gon’s voice interrupted his private musings.
“Yes, Master. I’m ready.”
“Then shall we get underway?”
“Yes, Master.”
Obi-Wan felt Qui-Gon gently squeeze his arm. “Your future is waiting for you. Don’t allow what ifs and what could have been to cloud it. You will be a great Jedi and I am honored to be your Master. Together, we will walk the road the Force has set before us.”
“Together,” Obi-Wan whispered.
He smiled at his Master as they felt the familiar rumble of the ship as it prepared to take off. He saw his Master and Master Yoda involved in their own private conversation, leaving him alone once again with his thoughts. Together. Master and Padawan. He liked the sound of that.
Sinking back into his seat, Obi-Wan closed his eyes. He hadn’t even bothered to ask where they were going, but it didn’t matter. The young man knew that when he woke up this time, that it wouldn’t be a dream. He was no longer trapped in the nightmare of his life. He was going to be a Jedi and he was now surrounded by people who truly cared for him.
As the transport made the jump to hyperspace, he opened his eyes for a few minutes. He watched the stars streak by his window. Obi-Wan felt as if he were about to enter a gateway to a new life. A new life that he would have never thought possible. He just wished that the nagging feeling in the back of his mind would go away. He quickly dismissed those thoughts as he once again closed his eyes.
A smile spread across his face as he felt the Force wrap its arms around him, embracing him, whispering to him that all would be well, and for the first time in his life, he truly believed that he was exactly where he should be. He was following the path the Force had set before him. His road had not been easy and with the future always in motion, he was sure that there would be more difficult times. But now, he knew that he had the strength to face his future and would do so with a fervor and determination worthy of a Jedi.

Aw, how heartbreaking and yet hopeful. They will be together, but not now, not yet. I'm so glad the Force soothed him at the end.
There can’t be an us.
Gee, maybe that'll be in my story
- no, of course I wouldn't hijack your Siriwan for my own purposes.

Obi-Wan and Siri are stronger than they themselves know.
They both made a difficult but mature decision. I hope the force sees to it that they're time does come.
What a wonderful ending!
I can't wait for the sequel! Will it be up soon?
Please put me on the PM list for the sequel too.

Wonderful!
Aww, that was a sad goodbye for Obi and Siri.
But I'm glad they did the right thing, Obi not being a Jedi would be unthinkable!
(Especially since that evil dude would kidnap him five minutes after they left the Temple together
)
I loved how Obi finally felt at peace and that he was exactly where he needed to be at the end.
That was a very nice ending to a very awesome story, thank you so much for sharing it with us!
And I would love to be on your PM list for the sequel!

“I will consult with Master Yoda. I think the sooner we leave, the better.
I still sense something is not right,
” Qui-Gon proclaimed.
Qui-Gon has a feeling something is not right because
jedidas3
is not finished with him, and is preparing him for the sequel.
He just wished that the
nagging feeling
in the back of his mind would go away. He quickly dismissed those thoughts as he once again closed his eyes.
Obi-Wan has a nagging feeling because the author is going to send more trials and tribulations his way.
I loved this story as I love all your stories, and I am looking forward to the sequel.
