Qui-Gon memories of Melida/Daan surfaced as they landed and lowered the ramp. Qui-Gon knew if he’d been supportive of Obi-Wan, things might’ve been different. He’d seen the confusion in Obi-Wans eyes, and he knew Obi-Wan didn’t understand why there was so much senseless killing. Qui-Gon felt the boy’s commitment slipping and he did nothing to guide him. He should’ve pulled the boy aside and given him direction. Instead, he’d accused him of breaking his trust. Qui-Gon almost willed the betrayal to happen, and therein laid his fault.
Obi-Wan put his hand in his lap and sighed. “I wasn’t expecting that reception. He seemed happy to see me. I thought there’d be some anger; after all, he cared a great deal for Cerasi.” Qui-Gon nodded, “He’s moved on, and has put his grief behind him. Her sacrifice inspired him to be a better person, and he has an important role to play in the rebuilding of Melida/Daan. He honours her memory by doing that to the best of his ability.” Obi-Wan’s anger flared. “How can he just forget her, like she didn’t exist?” “I didn’t say he had forgotten her. On the contrary, she is alive in everything they rebuild”
