	At least Qui-Gon had the decency to feel like an idiot after asking Obi-Wan about Melida/Daan, as he should. Especially since he ruined Obi's happy feeling after Master Chas-Anna asked him to be her padawan. Dang you, Qui-Gon! So now Mace Windu is also going to ask Obi to be his padawan? Obi is going to feel so wanted, but he's also going to have to make a decision, and knowing our dear sweet Obi he won't want to dissapoint either master. Poor guy. 	I think that Qui-Gon is actually coming around to seeing that he was as much at fault as Obi-Wan, maybe more. “Obi-Wan, we did not talk about what happened between us on Melida/Daan, and I thought perhaps you might want to explain why you decided to remain there? Maybe if I could understand why you would give up your life’s dream of being a Jedi, to stay on a planet that has been at war for many years; I could be at peace with your decision and then we would not feel uncomfortable every time we see each other?” He was not accusing here, merely trying to understand what happened. Unfortunately, Obi-Wan took it to mean accusations and so did Mace later. I'm interested to see how this is all going to come out. 	Ugh seriously, i'm about to smack Qui Gon “Obi-Wan, I have decided to ask the Council to put me on mission status once again. I feel I can serve the force better by taking to the field in the search of force sensitive younglings to be raised as Jedi and to do this I will require an apprentice. I know you do not have a Master, and I realise you cannot accept a Master until your probation has ended. Nevertheless, I would like you to consider becoming my apprentice?” Obi-Wan could not believe his ears; Master Chas-Anna had just asked him the most sought after question he had ever wanted to hear. that's so wonderful!... good to see that others do know the real Obi Wan that just eludes Qui Gon's eyes Mace could see the defeat in his friend’s eyes; he knew there was no talking him out of his decision, which made Mace's decision easier. “I have to go now Qui-Gon. Will I see you at evening meal in the dining hall?” “Yes I will see you then, I am going to the archives, and do a bit of reading” Both men went in different directions, Mace headed for his apartment to ask Obi-Wan a very important question.... 	0000 Mace arrived at their apartment to find Obi-Wan on the floor, meditating. He felt the force swirl around the youth, he seemed in deep reflection and his facial features were tense. Mace sat on the couch and waited, watching Obi-Wan work through his problem. Mace could almost guess what was on the boys mind, - Qui-Gon. Gradually he began to relax, and his breathing levelled out, and after a few moments he stretched, opening his eyes. “Hello Master Windu” “Hello Obi-Wan are you alright?” “Yes master, I just felt the need to meditate, I am sorry, did you want me for something?” “No, well yes, but that can wait a moment. I just spoke to Master Jinn and he told me he asked you some questions. I know you feel guilty about what happened between Master Jinn and your self, however, I do not condone his asking you about it. He made his decision, and the council have made theirs. You are under the control of the council, and Qui-Gon has relinquished control of you. Therefore, you do not have to answer any personal questions put forward by Master Jinn, do you understand that” Obi-Wan lowered his head. “I did not know what to tell him and I think I was disrespectful. I snapped at him and ran off, and I came back here to meditate on my thoughtlessness.” “Obi-Wan I am very pleased that you recognised the need to meditate on words spoken in the heat of the moment. However, it was thoughtless of Master Jinn to bring up things, which the healers are trying to help you deal with.” “Thank you Master, meditating did help, and I feel much better…..actually Master Windu, I just realised I am very hungry. Can we eat in the dining hall tonight?” “Yes we can, but first there is something on my mind that I wish to discuss with you” Obi-Wan nodded. ”Yes Master” “I know I have been quite hard on you in the past, and when you were sent to Bandameer, I think you believed I wanted to send you to the agri-corps, nevertheless that decision was the hardest one the council had to make, and I know Master Yoda has since explained to you why we sent you on the monument.” “Yes, Master Yoda said that the force told him that if Master Jinn and I were together on that mission Qui-Gon would finally see that I was meant to be his apprentice. Master Yoda actually told me before I boarded that ship that my destiny would be as a Jedi. He said to believe in the force to show me my way….. but…, ” “No buts Obi-Wan, lets not think of the negative side to this story. Master Yoda is very wise and when he asked us to send you on that ship we were guided by the force to abide by his decision. However, what you did not know is that I spoke to Master Yoda about your apprenticeship” Obi-Wan had no idea where Mace was leading with this questioning, “May I ask why Master?” he asked. “I was going to take you as my apprentice if Qui-Gon did not” Mace explained. “Really! You were going to ask me to be your apprentice? I did not know that Master. I did not think anyone wanted me” “I know Obi-Wan, and because Qui-Gon accepted you we did not say anything. Nevertheless, that was then, and this is now.” Mace placed his hands on Obi-Wans shoulders “Obi-Wan Kenobi would you do me the honour of becoming my apprentice once your probation is concluded.” “Master Windu!, y-you are asking me to be your Padawan after everything I have done. After I disobeyed the code and I drew my sabre on my Master, and I left the order!” “Is that so hard for you to believe young one?” Obi-Wan stared at him for several moments. “With all due respect Master, It is hard to believe,–are you sure?” “Of course I am sure,” he winked. “After all I am the head of the council. I think I know what I want, and I want to guide you to Knighthood, that is of course if you want me too” ‘But what about Master Jinn, he is your friend; won’t he be upset with you?” “No, I do not believe so, I am certain he does not want you to fail, and I am sure he will be happy that you still have a chance to become a Knight.” Obi-Wan could not believe his good fortune, this was incredible. He wondered what would happen now, that two masters had asked him. He had never heard of that happening before. “Master Windu, I am not sure what I am supposed to do now?” “Well you are on probation, and you cannot be officially taken yet. Therefore, you do not have to do anything. I have just given you something to look forward too, and to think about. I thought you might like to tell your friends that you have officially been asked.” “Oh yes, thank you Master, however, that is not what I mean, this is so incredible, and I cannot believe this is happening to me. I always wondered What it would be like to be asked in the traditional way to become an apprentice. However, I have already been asked by another Master, and I am not sure what to do?” Obi-Wans statement took Mace by surprise. “You have been approached by another Master Obi-Wan?” Obi-Wan beamed with joy. “Yes Master, Master Chas-Anna asked me earlier this evening” Mace knew Chas-Anna she was an excellent Jedi and he knew she had a soft spot for Obi-Wan, “Well now, you do have a reason to smile, I know Master Chas-Anna well, and she is a fine Master” Obi-Wan followed Mace out the door as they headed for the dining hall. “So Obi-Wan tell me all about it, when did Master Chas-Anna speak to you?” Obi-Wan explained all about his meeting with the crèche master in the turbo lift earlier. Mace could sense the excitement in Obi-Wans voice, and he smiled inwardly, thinking. It is a joy to see him so happy Abruptly Obi-Wan stopped telling his story. ‘Master Windu, what should I do, I am a bit confused, is it allowed to be asked by more than one Master. Do I have to make a decision right now; I don’t know what the correct procedure is. It did not happen like that for me when Master Jinn finally accepted me. We were on Bandameer, and then we went on another mission. Mace laughed, “I do not think you need to worry about that for a while, and I am sure when the time comes a solution will present itself, and yes Obi-Wan it is permitted to be asked by several Masters. However, all that is in the future, you do not have to make a decision yet” Mace placed his hand on Obi-Wans shoulder. “Just enjoy the moment, and leave the future to Yoda, you know what he would say – hard to see the future is, always in motion it is” Obi-Wan smiled and felt happy, and when he saw his friends wave him over to their table, he bowed to Mace and excused him self. 000 Qui-Gon went to the archives, and sat down at the data terminal. He punched in the name Obi-Wan Kenobi, which brought to the screen all relevant details about the boy. Qui-Gon felt slightly embarrassed that he did not know Obi-Wan was born on Corruscant, he had never asked, and now that he thought about it, after their initial awkward beginning when they first became Master and apprentice, Qui-Gon did not ask very much about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Scrolling down past the obvious like hair colour, eyes, he came upon the entry when he was brought to the temple. Obi-Wan came to the temple at just a few days old, and Qui-Gon rubbed his chin. A few days, that is very young, usually the children are at least six months old, by the time force sensitivity tests are done and then negotiations with the parents. It intrigued him that a mother would give her child to the Jedi, before midi-chlorian tests were done, and it also had him baffled that the Temple would take a child before the results came back. Qui-Gon knew that even if the test was done on the baby at birth, it would still take a few weeks to have the data registered and confirmed, and usually babies were not tested until they were a few months old. Qui-Gon scrolled down the page to the parents details. His parents were a moderately wealthy couple, and they lived in Crystal City another suburb of Corruscant; his father Owen Kenobi was a Doctor. The file said deceased. Obi-Wans father died before he was born. Qui-Gon opened the file and read the report from the authorities. A transport lost control, and crashed into a building bringing down parts of it. Luckily the building was empty, however, there were twenty people trapped in the transport. Obi-Wan’s father happened to be in the vicinity, and went in to help the people, even though the building was unstable. By the time rescue services arrived he had helped all the people out. He had just pushed the last person out and was climbing out him self when the building collapsed dragging him down with it. He was honoured by the Senate with a bravery medal, which was given to his wife. Obi-Wan’s mother Azure, died in childbirth. Qui-Gon discovered some surprising information when he opened her file. It was noted in her file that she was force sensitive. However, she left the Temple at age twelve and went back to live with her parents, who sent her to teachers college. She became an educator, and she won various awards for her work with disadvantaged children, and the homeless. Qui-Gon read down the page at all the good Azure had done for the community. He was impressed by her selfless nature, and imagined that her presence would be sorely missed by those she helped. The file noted that she set up a trust fund several months before Obi-Wan birth. Qui-Gon wondered if she had sensed she would not be around after the baby was born. Another surprising bit of information made Qui-Gon rub his chin. In her will she left instructions that Master Yoda should be contacted immediately if she died, and he would become Obi-Wan’s legal guardian. Qui-Gon re-read her file he felt drawn to the fact that both his parents were pillars of society. He wondered what Yoda had to do with Obi-Wans parents, and the thought struck him that it was Yoda who insisted that Obi-Wan should be his apprentice. He would go and speak with the old master, and learn more about Obi-Wan, and Yoda’s connection to his mother. Glancing through the data he read about Obi-Wan’s early years, and his penchant for saving lives. There were two incidences that stood out, one when he was five and another when he was seven. The first event happened in the training arena, a group of four and five year olds were using remotes to practice their ability to deflect bolts with their training sabres. One malfunctioned and flew out of control across the room Obi-Wan saw it coming and pulled a little four year old out of the way. The remote exploded sending shards of metal in all directions, Obi-Wan and the four year old escaped injury because Obi-Wan pulled the child behind a large stuffed toy, which took the brunt of metal pieces. The second accident happened in the pool, four younglings were playing on top of a rock, one fell over and hit her head; falling in the pond, the sound of the waterfall drowned out their cries for help. However, Obi-Wan saw what happened and he dove in and pulled her to the surface just as the Masters swam out. Qui-Gon felt like a heel, he blamed Obi-Wan for being irresponsible and reckless, and yet it was his nature to be kind and caring, and it was bred into him to help people, just like his parents. Qui-Gon hurried to Master Yoda’s and caught him as he was heading out his door. “Master Yoda, I wondered if I could ask you about Obi-Wan’s mother?” The old master stopped and looked at Qui-Gon. “Need to know, why do you?” “I feel if I know more about him, I could see him the same way you and Tahl see in him.” “If took the time to know your apprentice, when accepted him you did then know all, you would. Told you him self Obi-Wan would have” Yoda walked off and called over his shoulder. “Need to know now you do not!” Qui-Gon knew a rebuke when he heard it; he no longer had the right to know about Obi-Wan. Yoda made him self perfectly clear on that point. Qui-Gon had the feeling like he had lost something very important to him, and hoped he had not made the biggest mistake of his life. He could change his mind; it was not unheard of to re-instate an apprentice. He just needed time to sort out his feelings. It had been a long battle getting over Xanatos, and maybe now that he was dead, things could be different. ooo Obi-Wan sat down with his friends Bant and Garen; Siri sat down next to Obi-Wan and smiled at him. “How’s your leg?” “Itchy,” he grinned. “Thank the force it comes off tomorrow” Bant and Garen looked at him with a sideways glance. “You seem bright and cheery, has old bucket head Jinn fell off the Planet?” Bant whispered. “Bant please do not say such things!” Obi-Wan stated seriously. “I am too happy to worry about Master Jinn” “Ok, come on Obi-Wan spill the beans, we haven’t seen you this happy for a long time” Garen remarked. “Ok, ok, I will tell you, anyway it isn’t a secret, and Master Windu said I could tell you” “Tell us what Obi-Wan, you can be so frustrating some times” Bant huffed. “Alright, I spoke with Master Chas-Anna, and she has asked me to be her apprentice, when my probation is finished.” “Oh wow Obi, that’s great,” Bant hugged Obi-Wan and Garen slapped him on the back. Siri even congratulated him. “That is wonderful Obi-Wan” “But wait there’s more” he grinned. “Master Windu did not know that Master Chas-Anna had asked me and just before I told him, he asked me to become his apprentice too!” ‘What!” Garen exclaimed, Master Windu asked you, WoW!” Bant hugged him again, “You are blessed Obi-Wan, see I told you everything would be alright, only now you have a problem, albeit a good problem” “Yes I know, who should I choose, I really like Master Chas-Anna and I am sure we would be happy. Nevertheless, Master Windu has been really nice to me, and if I was his Padawan I would go on negotiation missions, like I did with Qui-Gon.” They were happily talking about Obi-Wans good fortune when Qui-Gon entered the dining hall, collected a tray of food, and sat down next to Mace. “Hello Qui-Gon, you do not have much on your tray, aren’t you hungry?” “No Mace, I think I lost my appetite,” he glanced over to Obi-Wans table and could see the animated discussion going on, and Obi-Wan looking happy. “Obi-Wan does certainly appear happier than when I last saw him, did you talk to him?” Mace suddenly felt awkward. “Yes, he is happy, something good happened to him this evening, and I think it will help his self-esteem a lot.” “Oh, may I ask what that might be?” “Master Chas-Anna, asked him to be her apprentice today” Qui-Gon felt several conflicting emotions rush through him and most of all he felt pained. He did not think about the possibility of another master taking Obi-Wan so soon “What, No!” Qui-Gon whispered, “She cannot choose him he is still on probation” Mace nodded. “Yes he is, nevertheless that doesn’t prevent a Master from asking him. Their request will be put on file and when his probation is over he can agree to become their Padawan if he wishes.” “When did she ask him?” Qui-Gon questioned. “Today as a matter of fact, they were in the lift together, and she asked him” Mace confirmed. “Master Chas-Anna,” Qui-Gon said her name quietly. “But she is a crèche Master. She has had no formal training in negotiating treaties!” He exclaimed. “Obi-Wans talents would be wasted, retrieving babies. I may not know much about Obi-Wan, however, I do recognise his talent lies in negotiations.” “Yes at least in that, you are correct in your assessment of Obi-Wan” Mace agreed. Qui-Gon began to speak, “Mace, I have been thinking about……., “Qui-Gon before you start in on the whys and wherefores again, I have something else to tell you. I did not know that Chas-Anna had asked Obi-Wan, and just before we came to the dining hall, I also asked him to be my apprentice” Qui-Gon was just about to say that he may have made a mistake in repudiating Obi-Wan, when Mace cut him off and announced his intention to take Obi-Wan as his apprentice. Qui-Gon felt heat rise to his face, and he blurted out “What!...You asked him to be your Padawan, you of all people, you’re my friend; how could you make that decision without speaking to me first!” Qui-Gon rose to tower over the other man, and glared at him. tbc..... -----signature----- Padawan to p_stotts Peace over anger - honour over hate - Strength over fear. 	Great update! I know that being asked by two different Masters to be their respective Padawans has given Obi-Wan's self esteem a great boost. Now if only Qui-Gon could be happy for him... 	Wooo this was a great update!!! I'm so glad to see Obi Wan so happy, it's about time after all he's been thru!... too funny how Yoda put Qui Gon in his place HA! now Qui Gon is upset at Mace, i cant wait to see what Mace will reply to him... there should be fireworks ... do i smell a public scene by Qui Gon in the cafeteria in front of everyone?
