Title: Serpent-Spawn
Author: AzureAngel2
Timeframe: long before even the Old Republic did exist
Summary: On Aargonar Anakin Skywalker touches an amulet that is in possession of General A'Sharad Hett. Overwhelmed by empthaic powers his mind travels back into the early historical roots of the Tusken raiders. He comes to know more of their fierce nature and their dark secrets.
Disclaimer: SW is owned by George Lucas and Lucas Lt. !!!
Notes: One of the CW comic books made me rather curious about General A'Sharad Hett and the Tusken. I started to ask myself: where did the Tusken came from originally? Did they always live on Tatooine? Why do they hide their faces? What makes them so fierce? Is there an old hatered that drives them forward? Have they been humans once? Or are they a mixed species? Could their desert robes hide some tragic facts and figures?
Then my pointer finger ran over a map with all the planets of the SW universe. Automatically it stopped over the outlines Unkown Regions and suddenly a wild story was spinning in my mind, weaving a lot of things together.
I must be honest that there was also a plot that I did weave 20 years ago with a friend of mine in order to explain for ourselves who the mother of the Skywalker twins was. We did invent our own SW universe back then, but she never went on with it at a certain point. Oh yes, went I went to Dublin as an Au-Pair in summer 1996.
Anyway, when I left my ex in summer 2003 I was full of anger. But, as you all may know, anger leads to the dark side of the force and I did write two Fantasy-SF books for myself to get at peace with myself within 7 months.
Most of my friends of course were keen on reading my scripts and were surprised to find nothing SW based in them at all. The original plot did intrigue them though.
Some friends, who did language and/ or cultural studies, also tried to help me to find mistakes and/ or to make suggestions for the German text.
Now that SW plays a big part in my life again since I joined the boards (and found the big love of my life here!!!) I asked myself again if it would be possible to link those books again with the SW universe. So I started re-working the story and translating it bit by bit into English.
Here is the first bit:
Prologue
A mixture of shame, hate, confusion and curriosity ran through Anakin Skywalker while he looked at General A'Sharad Hett. It was curiosity that won in the end. His burning eyes focused on the Tusken man´s tatoos in the burning midday sun of Aargonar.
There were lines that moved like snakes over hollow cheek bones, tiny spots where darkness seemed to gather into a mighty force. Other curious ornaments lay still like a predator waiting for a victim.
Those tatoos in particular remined Anakin of something, or better to say, of somebody: Asajj Ventress, one of Count Dooku´s Force-sensitive Dark Acolytes.
With a shiver Anakin shrugged that thought quickly away. He did not wish to be reminded of his first duel with her on Yavin 4. Nor did he intend to call an even older memory back into his mind: the sith apprentice Darth Maul attacking Qui-Gon on Tatooine. The face and body of the Zabrak also had been tattooed with ancient symbols which gave evidence of his complete dedication to the discipline of the dark side of the force.
Anakin sighed, trying to get rid of all the sad memories that came to the surface like a Gouka Dragon.
The defense of Aargonar had already drawn a lot of strength from him.
The ambush on their gunship.
Bhat´s death due to severe crash injuries and his broken body left carelessly in the desert by his own master with some lame excuse.
Hett´s remark that he, Anakin, would have "made a good Tusken".
His mad slaughter of a group of enemy soldiers.
His attack on Hett, followed his confession about his deeds on Tatooine, ending in the strange gesture of the other jedi to remove his Tusken facial coverings.
Anakin tried to clear of his dry throat a bit.
Despite that gruelsome sound A´Sharad Hett did not look into his direction at all. He seemed to be deep in his own thoughts, his fingers playing with a leather chain that Anakin had not seen before.
The wind brought the stench of war into the open vehicle that they both flew in.
Anakin smiled bitterly.
“This amulet has been given to my mother K'Sheek from her adoptive mother” Hett said barely audible. “It has been in the clan for ages. It once belonged to a warrior queen that led the Tusken into great glory.”
The word “queen” pressed Anakin’s heart together. It reminded him of his beloved wife Padmé and all that was still good in the universe.
With wobbly legs Anakin came over to Hett, sitting down next to him.
“We Tusken were not always living on Tatooine and our people had a different name before that” the Jedi master told him with a very soft voice. “But our people were used to a harsh environment long before. We were always warriors and herders, living together with our flock and respecting the ways of the desert.”
Looking closer at the amulet itself Anakin felt his heart beat in his chest very painful once more. It was a very simple, yet elegant thing. Very much alike the Japor stone that he had given Padmé so many ages ago.
Hett went on talking, but Anakin paid no attention at all. His fingers moved closer and closer to the amulet, until the sun went out and the universe began to explode around him.

Chapter 1:
The ever blowing desert wind made the feathered leaves of the date tree tremble. I raised my arms high above my head, stretching my body lustfully. A soft meow escaped my throat.I just loved the peaceful moon hours in the open desert, especially here in the sanctuary of my favourite oasis. The never-ending intrigues of the serail were very far away then. Carefully I listened to the stories that the wind carried with him. I watched him stroking over the surface of the salt lake with his invisible hands..
At daylight the L´ œil du ciel mirrored the caramel coloured sky of my home planet Sapuhru in a very beautiful way. In the weak light of the twin moons Sodalith and Calme the lake reminded me more of a drop of spilled lamp oil.
With a smile I dipped a foot into the warm salt water. “Are you coming, yes or no?” I asked into the dense night shadows.
For many, many heartbeats I waited for a satisfying answer, but only the sound of the wind was to be heard.
I shrugged and went straight into the lake. “Well, as you wish, my brother.”
When Luçien’s elegant body hit the water, I screamed out with both joy and surprise. My whole race counted as unpredictable, but my step-brother was the greatest enigma of all. His moods were as ever-changing as the dune sea itself. To tell his actions was even harder. On top of all, he was a big teaser.
“You scoundrel!” I cried out.
“Yes, my beloved desert rose?”
Giggling softly I tried to hit him, but he was too fast for me. He whirled around me with the lightness of a belly dancer. Not even the water made him lose his ability to be quick and fast. Full of love, pride and admiration I looked at him.
Luçien was a gorgeous beast of a man, broad shouldered and full of strength. In height he over-towered all other guards. His black, curly hair reached to his chin, when it was unbound. I loved to touch it, but my chances to do so had become rare since he had undergone the rites of manhood three moons ago. Now he had to hide his beautiful tanned face under the veil of a gardien, a protector of the homestead. I missed his warm, friendly smile dearly, even though it was still reflected by his rather impressive eyes. Their blue colour was very unusual, almost hypnotically.
But it was his voice that held the greatest power of all. It was very deep and the softer Luçien spoke, the more it made my body tremble. Though it was as rough as the crumbled face of the Hamada, the stone desert, it was more melodious than a sitar ever could be.
“It is very hard to please you, my sister. First you are desperate to get me into the water and now you wish me out of it again. And people call me moody! They have no idea. I should send all my severe critics and enemies to you. May they deal with you and despair!”
Playfully I splashed some water into his face. “I am a woman. Therefore it is my right to change my mind quickly.”
These words made Luçien laugh out heartily. “I would have to treat you like a sacred goblet and not like the fuzzy kitten that you are if you were a fully grown woman yet. May your rites still be many moons away!”
I smirked. “Then I want my womb to be as unfertile as the Outer Regions forever. Nothing shall ever change between the two of us.”
Out of a sudden his broad smile faded and a very sad look stole into his eyes.
A twinge of fear touched my soul. When that very night came, would every physical contact between the two of us be forbidden then? I shook my head violently in order to chase those unpleasant thoughts away. Things would always remain the way there were. Luçien loved me as much as one of his own twelve sisters. And nothing would ever change this love or the way he was dealing with me.
Luçien reached out for my face very gently and took it into his large hands. The heat from his palms was a bit irritating. It seemed as if they were on fire. Luçien had that quiet often when he was emotional. “Never ever say something silly like this again”, he said very strict. “It is a blessing to be able to have children.”
I thought of our common siblings and shook my head. “No, they are just loud, annoying and greedy.”
He leaned his front against mine. “Oh, Isabeau!” Each time he called my by my name, he was about to lecture me. I rolled my eyes. “There were once dark times, when chaos and murder ruled our world” Luçien went on. “Without our holy rules we never ever would have survived.”
I did not like religious talk like this. Nor did I like Luçien to be so serious. But since he had been made chef de la sécurité, captain of the princely guard, he behaved so different. Even his visits in the serail had become as rare as the fairy-tales he told me in bed. It was a miracle that he was out in the open desert with me tonight.
“Please spare me! This is such a wonderful night.” I begged him.
“It is essential that you know the past of our people” answered Luçien calmly.
“But I don’t want to know. All this took place many thousand moons before I was born. I couldn’t care less. This is our only common night out this month. I want to have fun and no history lesson!” I spit back harder than I had intended.
His disapproving sigh made my heart nearly break into two halves.
“I am sorry, Isabeau, but you have to listen to me right now and here. What the Ophidiae did to us was a dreadful crime.”

I really liked to read that scene from the clonewars SW comic that your prologue is inspired upon, and I longed to know if there was more to be said about the tusken, who we have known from the 1st movie on, but of who we learned little, apart from them being fearless, nomadic, adapted to the desert, and feared and despised by the moisture farmers. I'm intrigued by your start, and long to find how the tusken raiders became what they are now and how your story will tell their evolution.

*loves a certain sith lord here very much for being such a sweet companion, great cook, outstanding support, big fun to live with and a cuddely teddy bear for her when needed!*
Due to you, beloved, I found the courage to express myself again via paintings and words. I love you. You are the compass of my heart!
Okay, here we go on with more of chapter one of "Serpent-Spawn":
I rolled my eyes when the name of the reptilian race of our neighbour planet Draconis fell, but I allowed Luçien to take my hand and to lead me to our camp fire. There he dried first me and than himself with a blanket.
“We should not forget and we should not forgive, never ever!” he hissed out in between. “The sword of revenge will wipe them out one fine day. Especially the royal family Tjehenet will pay for all the war crimes they committed. Their god queens are bloodthirsty monsters with hearts of stone.”
Then he remained strangely quiet for a good while, staring into the night sky where Draconis dim shape was to be seen.
I disliked the new patterns of behaviour that Luçien showed since his trials. What ever he had been confronted with during his trials, it had left a mark on his soul.
“Please get dressed now!” Even though his plea was spoken softly, I could not help to overhear the urgency in his words. ”You should not get a cold. I will make a decent cup of coffee for us in the meantime.”
While Luçien did slip quickly into his dark blue guard robes and went over to the samovar, I dressed myself layer by layer: first my cotton underwear, than my wide trousers, followed by my brocade caftan with its flower ornaments, then my half-veil made out of gaze cloth and at last my warm, heavy travel coat.
My entire garments were wine red, my favourite colour since early childhood days. The mobile clan quarters of the noble family Riwalan had been in that very colour, too. In my dreams I still saw them swim like giant sails in the dune sea, unharmed by the fire the warriors from the House Ankou had set to them.
Quickly I repressed all my sad memories of fire, blood and death. I was an adopted daughter of the House Ankou now. My past as a member of the Riwalan family got buried together with the dead bodies of my mother’s relatives.
“Have a seat!” suggested Luçien.
I took one of the satin pillows that he had taken with him from the homestead and sat down next to him.
He put a fragile porcelain mug into my hands. “What I will tell you know is the honest truth about our race. How it came to life and why we are here.”
Before I was able to speak out my thoughts, he did put a finger on my lips.
“No, Isabeau. Forget about Sodalith and Calme! I will give you the secret knowledge that the elder ones possess.”
My eyes went wide open. “You would trust me with the secret knowledge of the council?”
“Because you can behave quiet reasonable and lady like at times. Your mother Chaleur was known for her nobility and wisdom. Perhaps all this qualities will show up in you one fine day.”
I was not sure whether to feel flattered or annoyed. Luçien gave me this mixed feeling quiet often. He reached out with his arms and drew me close to him. I made myself cosy and comfortable.
“A long time ago, in a galaxy far away the inhabitants of a dying star system made it to this sector. They settled down on Draconis, because it reminded them of their own lost planet.”
I carefully sipped from my cup and cuddled myself even closer into his embrace.
“But destiny had followed them to their new home. Creatures from their ancient fairy-tales arrived with star ships. They asked for asylum. The wish was granted by the god queen Tamaris who ruled Draconis at that time. Many moons passed. Ophidiae were born and died. The Others also got many children, but they are a race that is blessed with unnatural long life. None of them died within a hundred years time. There was no sign of age visible on their faces or bodies at all. Not even their hair turned grey.”
I gasped loudly, but Luçien just pressed my hand gently and went on talking.
“Even though the womb of an Ophidea can have twin pairs of seven, they found themselves outnumbered. Mistrust and fear lead straight into a bloody war that went on a thousand generations. Then the scientists of the Ophidiae sat together and formed a new weapon: us.”
Luçien’s words did hit me like a leather whip. “What!” I threw my cup on the ground. “This is not possible!”
“Sit down, Isabeau!” he commanded me at once. “And stop yelling under the open sky! That can be heard many, many miles away. As a true desert child you should know that.”
Gloomily I followed his orders, but I would not let him touch me again. He was committing great crimes against the goddesses Sodalith and Calme. Who had told him such silly and blasphemous things? Surely not one of the Elders, that was out of question. One of the crazy hermits of the Northern lands perhaps did put those dangerous lies over the holy creation into his usually bright mind.
“Each word of mine is true, Isabeau.” Luçien looked at me very reproachful. “Our ancestors lived happily as wild beasts of the jungle before Draconian scientists put them into cages and dared to make genetically experiments with them.”
I put my hands over my ears. “I don’t want to know, I don’t want to know!”
With soft pressure he forced my arms down again. “I want you to listen to this and lock your knowledge deep in your heart, Isabeau.”
I raised my chin in hurt pride. “Why have I never heard about this ever before?”
“That is easy to answer. Your mother’s tribe choose to forget that common knowledge completely. They just wanted to follow the desert wind together with their stock.” Luçien smiled down on me, so gentle and full of love that I almost could not stand it at all. “They abandoned all techniques of war and choose to be nomad peasants.”
“Is that why Papa killed them all?” I roared with unexpected hate that even surprised me myself.
Luçien looked at me very mild nevertheless. “What did happen to your mother and her tribe was due to some old frontier quarrels. She was a stubborn woman who wanted to do things her way. Papa gave her several warnings which she chose to ignore.”
“The desert belongs to everybody!” I yelled. “Nomads could not be forced to pay taxes for using the ways of caravans by accident.”
“I hear your mother talking” commented Luçien rather amused.
“You were only three years old, when you rode with Papa into that dreadful battle. How can you remember the words of my mother, when even I, her own daughter, have nothing but blurry pictures of her in my mind?”
His laughter, improper as it was, calmed me a bit. I pressed my lips tightly together when he continued talking; otherwise I would have continued screaming at him. A part of me wanted to hear the truth no matter how hard it was to stand. So I forced my hands down into my lap.
“The holy laws demand that a warrior washes his hands in the blood of the offspring of his enemy and makes all of his wives pregnant again. That is not only to honour the name of his house, but also to bring back the balance. The desert is cruel, but it is also just. Life and death are woven into each other like the threads of a carpet.”
I felt like crying, even though I knew deep down in my heart that he was speaking the truth. A part of me accepted all the war actions that had taken place. Life in the desert was a constant fight for survival.
“Your mother Chaleur became one of the honoured main wives of my father and only a hundred and two moon nights after the marriage she died in childbed together with your unborn twin siblings.”
Now I could not hold back my tears any longer. They flew out of my eyes like the precious rain showers in spring time. At once Luçien was at my side, dragging me into his embrace. “I can’t remember!” I howled in pain.
All my early childhood memories just circled around my life in the desert camp. Besides Luçien there was nothing else that I did remember after the raid. I could not even recall my mother’s death. There was a deep gab in my mind that Luçien’s presence had filled out ever since.
„Shush! There is no need to give water to the dead. Keep your precious liquids to yourself and live in the now!”
Luçien cradled me forth and back like he had done many of my troublesome childhood nights after the raid. Only because of him and his brotherly love I had been able to feel at home within in walls of Fort Grand. My nightmares turned into feeble memories that were only meek whispers in the wind.
---
After a long time Luçien did let go of me. He went on packing our belongings. “You tend to forget this on purpose, don’t you?” he asked me amused. His hands rested a small wooden box that I knew too well.
Slowly he did open the lit.
Grumpily I looked at my jewellery set of white gold. It consisted of a large number of bangles, ankle bracelets, rings, two ear plucks and a necklace with diamonds. Even though I did not care about such riches at all, my five step-mothers had made it quiet clear to me that it was my duty to show the wealth of the family. Yet for me all those jewels felt like slave chains. They belonged to a world that I disliked. The walls of the serail of the Ankou homestead.
“Would you mind putting them on for me?” Luçien begged me nicely, interrupting my thoughts. I could not resist his plea.
“If you are willing to lend me a helpful hand, my brother, I certainly can.” I purred.
Within no time I was wearing the entire jewellery set. Luçien’s hand moved certain and fast. “You look beautiful” he complimented me.
“I usually do. Even without those… chains.”
“Isabeau, these are gifts of recognition and love.”
I smiled weakly. “Well as long it is pleases you.” But I did not feel very comfortable with them as much as the other women in the serial did.

Dear Annie, the first chapter is not finished yet and there will be still much to be read & hopefully enjoyed, bella!
Sweet Frank, as I said: first portfolio matters and exam preparations. Then I will go on. The entire text exists in German and I must root it into the SW universe again somehow.
Beste bird, je bent een schat! You really are a darling! And thanks for the inspiration!
Here we go again a bit further:
I let out a strong sigh.
It is tradition to seek a sanctuary after a long, hard hunting party. A place that men are only allowed to enter with the allowance of it’s female inhabitants: the serail.
When I was still a daughter of the dune sea, my mother’s humble tent had been the serail of my tribe. There had been nothing more than animal furs to sit on and in the middle had stood a samovar made out of copper. My mother had shared her tea supplies very generous with her sisters, cousins and aunts. The women had met on a daily basis. They had told stories to each other and had sung songs. Love, happiness and laughter had filled our camp.
The women in Papa’s harem did not sing with one another. Even their laughter was unnatural. There was a constant competition going on: about a respectable hunt, about dresses, about the education of their children and about Papa’s attention. Some of them left their food untouched when a rival was in sight. They even passed on their hatred to their offspring. It was a disgrace.
Only Solitaire the fifth and youngest wife of my father had a special place in my heart. She was not a bit like the other women, neither by her exotic looks nor by her wild and free spirit, for she was étrangère from Draconis: a snake-spawn. Each of her movements was elegant and floating, but in a different way than that of my people. The colour of her skin was like that of coffee and her black hair was short and curly. Her voice was deep and pleasant.
It was her eyes though that did frighten me at times, to be honest. They were green in a very unnatural way. Their iris shone with the cold light of gemstones. Each time she looked at me it was as if she would look beyond the mere flash and bones. It seemed as if she would dare to explore the very contents of my heart and soul in those bewildering moments.
There were rumours about the Ophidiae. For example: that they were mind readers, all of them. And that they possessed many powers that some considered unnatural.
A soft, teasing breeze, coming from the depths of the desert, played with my half-veil in a rather teasing way.
I took a grip of myself.
The serail.
The Ophidiae.
My step-brothers duties for papa’s guard.
In the dune sea I always was very far away from that. Then there was just me, my lance and the desert. Everything else stepped aside then.
Luçien handed me my lance. A child’s lance still, not that of a honoured huntress of the homestead. Sooner or later I would need to undergo the rites of womanhood, but not now.
“Let’s go back home!” Luçien said.
*to be continued!*
