wolf_kenobi: Thanks so much for your kind words! The next post is on its way!

I told you all that I wouldn't make you wait until Wednesday! I hope you all enjoy it!

Part 12

Ben embraced the darkness as it swirled around him, empowering him, urging him to draw upon his hatred in order to defeat the enemy before him. He had been aggressively advancing on the Jedi Master, driving him back with his vicious blows. It had been a long time since he had wielded a lightsaber and his moves were awkward and sometimes clumsy, but he was managing to keep on the offensive. The young man was determined that the Jedi scum before him would die by his own blade.

The injury that he had received only served to agitate him further. Ben was determined that the Jedi Master would know the same pain, but the agony that he would inflict upon the man would be more than just a flesh wound. He had every intention of taking the lightsaber and piercing the heart of the Jedi.

He could tell that the Jedi was beginning to tire as Ben continued to press on. As he brought his lightsaber over his head, the teen felt the lightsaber being yanked out of his hand. His quickly glanced around the arena and discovered that his weapon was now in the hands of another Jedi.

“Do not interfere,” Ben snapped at the unwelcome intruder. “You will have to wait your turn.”

Ben studied the female Jedi as she offered a hand to her fallen comrade. He took a step back as Qui-Gon slowly rose to his feet. He was not expecting to have to face two Jedi at one time. The boy had immediately noticed that the woman was not wearing a collar like the others. Was Dernal trying to make the game more interesting?

“So, two against one, huh? I thought the Jedi were all about fairness,” he taunted. “I guess I was wrong.”

“Ben, please listen to me,” Qui-Gon begged.

“I told you that I was through listening to you. Now you have two choices, you piece of Bantha fodder! You can continue this fight or I can simply kill you right now. I don’t need a lightsaber to finish you off.”

“Both options are unacceptable. You forgot to mention the third option,” Qui-Gon said.

“And that is?”

“We all put down our weapons and you walk out of here with us.”

Ben’s laughter took an almost maniacal tone as it rang throughout the arena. “I already told you that I’m not going anywhere with you!”

“Don’t you want out of this prison?”

“Of course I do, but if the only way to get out is to come with you, I’d rather stay here and rot.”

“You don’t mean that,” Qui-Gon softly remarked, hoping to soothe the young man’s troubled soul.

“Yes, I do. I would kill myself before I placed myself in the hands of the rotten stinking Jedi again. Now Master Jinn, you’re disappointing the crowd.” Ben gestured wildly with his arm, spurning the spectators to curse and throw debris onto the ground, some of it barely missing the two Jedi. “I suggest you tell your friend to leave before she gets hurt.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Ben,” the female Jedi firmly stated. “Do you remember who I am?”

“No. You better consider yourself lucky. I’ll kill you quickly,” Ben replied.

“Ben, I am Master Adi Gallia. You must listen to Qui-Gon and come with us so we can help you.”

“You can’t help me!” the youth snarled. “I don’t want your help! I don’t need your help!”

Ben’s head was starting to ache again. He put his hand up to his head and stumbled. Quickly regaining his balance, hoping that no one caught his moment of temporary weakness, Ben let his exasperation feed into his loathing as the darkness continued to envelope him. He was distracted by the guards flocking into the fighting area, their blasters raised, prepared to eliminate the two Jedi.

“Wait!” Ben cried out. “You can do what you want to with her, but Qui-Gon Jinn still belongs to me. I will finish what I started.”

A wicked smile danced across the lips of the young man. He knew that the Jedi had no choice. They wouldn’t take the chance of innocent bystanders getting hurt. He could care less if the drunken fools in the stands got hurt, but the Jedi had a conscience. Ben was glad that he no longer had to worry about that little inner voice that told him the difference between right and wrong. He didn’t care. All that mattered was making sure that all the Jedi were dead.

The teen watched as the Master valiantly struggled against her captors, using the Force to push them away. Maybe he was wrong in assuming that she would go peacefully. Perhaps the Jedi were more interested in self preservation that he thought.

“Master Gallia, I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Ben warned. “The guards are truly terrible shots and in trying to shoot you, they’ll probably hit someone in the crowd. Now, I could care less, but…”

“What has happened to you?” Adi shouted at the boy. “You were once a Jedi…”

“Don’t say that!” he bellowed.

Ben glared at Master Gallia and called the lightsaber to his outstretched hand. He activated the blade and then he motioned for the guards to come forward. “Get her out of here.” The teen knew that he had no right to order the guards around, but he also was aware of the fact that they were afraid of him right now and would do anything to get out of the arena.

As soon as the guards had escorted Adi out of the room, Ben turned his attention back to the Jedi Master. “Now where were we, Master Jinn? Have you rested enough? I don’t want you giving up too soon.”

“I won’t give up and I won’t give up on you,” Qui-Gon calmly stated.

“It’s too late for me.”

Ben slowly made his way towards the Jedi, twirling the saber in his hand. The youth would not stop fighting until Qui-Gon Jinn was dead. This time there would be no one to rescue him and Ben would be able to exact his revenge on the Jedi Master. His head continued to throb, but he pushed his own discomfort to the back of his mind as he took another swing at the Jedi. The young man smiled as he grazed Qui-Gon’s shoulder, causing the man to cry out in pain.

The teen enjoyed the fact that he had once again caused the Jedi to suffer. This battle was far from over. Ben intended to make sure that he had his revenge. Qui-Gon Jinn would soon join the ranks of the other Jedi that he had killed. The young man would be that much closer to fulfilling his vendetta. It would probably take a lifetime to extinguish the Jedi from the face of the galaxy, but that didn’t bother Ben. Time was the one thing that he had.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“We’ve got to do something!” Siri declared as she watched her Master being taken away by the guards. She whirled around to face the pilot, whose expression of frustration was clearly evident on his face.
“I knew something like this was going to happen,” he whispered.
“What can we do? We can’t just stand here or we’re going to get caught too.”
“I have no intention of begin caught, young lady. I’ve spent enough time in this forsaken hole. The smartest thing we can do is get out of here.”
Siri shook her head. “We can’t just leave them.”
“You’re not listening. I said that would be the smartest thing. I didn’t say that was what we were going to do,” Mangan reassured the teen.
“So, do you have a plan?” Siri asked hopefully.
“I don’t know if I can call it a plan, but it’s something.”
“All right, what is it?”
“The first thing we need to do is even up the odds a little bit. We need to get rid of the crowd. That will be your job. Then you’re going to have to temporarily disable the kid.”
Siri did not like how the smuggler had phrased his last statement. “What do you mean disable?”
“By using this.”
Siri stumbled backwards, shaking her head, as Cordo pulled out his blaster and handed it to her. “I can’t use that.”
“If you want to get out of here with your friends, you’re going to have to,” the smuggler reasoned. “It’s set on stun. It’ll only knock him out for a while.”
The young girl still wasn’t convinced that she could actually shoot Obi-Wan. She knew that the Captain could sense her doubt and reluctance to go along with this particular part of his plan. “What if…”
“Look, we don’t have time to argue. If you can’t go through with this, I’ll scrap the whole idea and just get in my ship and take off. Now what’s it going to be?”
Sighing in frustration, Siri took the blaster from the pilot. “Fine, but I still don’t like this.”
“Duly noted. Now, as for the crowd. Give me five minutes and then pull the fire alarm,” he instructed.
“Five minutes? What are you going to be doing?” the Padawan inquired.
“Well, I can’t very well leave my crewman in the clutches of Warden Dernal, can I? I wouldn’t be a very good Captain if I did that, would I?”
“I guess not.”
“Now, once the crowd starts to leave and you’ve knocked out the boy, you and Jinn get to my ship. Master Gallia and I will meet you there.”
“With Obi-Wan, of course,” Siri added.
“Of course,” Cordo reluctantly agreed. “Are you ready?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
Siri tried to ignore the knot that was forming in the pit of her stomach. She had seen the pilot pull out another weapon as he rounded the corner and began to wonder if this plan was going to work. The girl began counting in her head as she peeked through the door watching Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan fight.
“Five minutes,” she muttered to herself. “It might as well be five hours.”
The girl had to fight the urge to set off the alarm early as she saw Obi-Wan starting to overpower Qui-Gon. She couldn’t believe this was happening. Siri had watched the Master and Padawan spar many times, but this was different. This was a fight that one of them would not walk away from if they were allowed to continue.
“Three minutes.”
She knew that she had to give Cordo the time that he had requested, but Siri was finding it difficult to wait. The teen winced as Obi-Wan delivered a devastating blow to Qui-Gon’s leg, causing the Jedi Master to fall to the ground.
“Two minutes. I don’t know how much longer I can stand this.”
Siri stepped over and placed her hand on the fire alarm. She couldn’t bear to watch the fight any longer. Closing her eyes, she silently wished that she could access the Force to help calm her frayed nerves.
“One minute…fifty-nine, fifty-eight, fifty-seven…”
The girl swallowed hard, her fingers curling around the lever that would sound the alarm. Siri wasn’t sure that she could shoot Obi-Wan, even if the gun was set on stun. She also found herself wondering what Cordo was going to do. He was responsible for rescuing her Master, but the girl could not shake the feeling that the man had his own agenda.
“…Five, four, three, two, and one. Here it goes!” Siri pulled the lever and the fire alarm began blaring through out building. She opened the door and saw the chaos that had erupted in the stands as hundreds of beings tried to head for the exits. She turned her attention back to Obi-Wan and noticed that he was looking around the stadium, an expression of confusion evident on his handsome face.
Taking advantage of Obi-Wan’s momentary distraction, Siri raised her blaster, using two hands to steady the weapon. She saw him look at her as she pulled the trigger. Siri felt as if she was betraying him again when she saw the hatred burning in his eyes. She was grateful when he collapsed to the ground for she couldn’t bear looking in his face so full of loathing and disgust any longer.
She rushed in the door when she saw Master Jinn slowly getting up off the ground. Siri breathed a sigh of relief when he nodded to her indicating that he was not seriously injured. The young girl knelt down by Obi-Wan’s side and brushed his hair out of his face.
“I’m so sorry,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry.”
“You did what you had to do,” Qui-Gon replied, hoping to encourage the Padawan.
“I hope that he sees it that way.”
“I’m sure one day he will. Where is your Master?”
“Cordo went to rescue her. He said for us to get to his ship.”
“I’ll carry him,” Qui-Gon said, pointing to the boy.
Siri nodded as she stood up, collecting Qui-Gon’s lightsaber that had fallen to the ground when Obi-Wan had passed out. As she watched the tall Jedi Master gently pick up his Padawan in his arms, Siri fought to control the tears that were threatening to fall. She quietly admonished herself, knowing that she couldn’t afford to let her emotions interfere with what she had to do. There would be time for tears later.
She glanced back over her shoulder, glad that the crowd was ignoring what had just happened on the arena floor. Even though they were escaping from prison, the young girl knew that this nightmare was far from being over for any of them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Warden Dernal could not believe his good fortune. Another Jedi had been captured and would ultimately face his ‘Jedi Killer’. He was intently watching the battle below him, pacing back and forth in front of the window. The boy was obviously getting tired, but the Warden knew that he would not give up until the Jedi was dead. He turned to face the female Jedi that had been brought in to his private box just a few moments ago.

“That was very brave of you to get in the arena and try to save your friend. But, I think that you discovered that my patrons don’t like to have their entertainment interrupted. Don’t worry, Master Jedi, you will get your turn.”

He turned back to the window as the fire alarm sounded. “What the…”

Dernal stared in disbelief as he saw his patron’s pushing and shoving their way out the door. “No!” he cried out. “This is not happening.” Whirling around to face the guards, he ordered them to find out what had triggered the alarm and caused this madness.

He glared at the Jedi. “You’re responsible for this!” he shouted.

“That’s impossible. I’ve been here the whole time,” Adi countered.

“Then how...”

The Warden received the answer to his question when he looked up and saw Cordo Mangan standing in the doorway.

“Hello, Warden Dernal. It’s been a long time…”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cordo Mangan stood outside the door, waiting for Siri to activate the fire alarm. This was not one of his best plans, but it was the best he could do on the spur of the moment. He would not pass up the opportunity to see Warden Dernal again. The pilot had looked forward to this day for a long time and now that he was so close to achieving his goal, he was determined nothing would stop him.
The alarm sounded and he could hear the pandemonium breaking out in the arena. As soon as the guards exited the Warden’s private box, he stepped inside the doorway. Cordo smiled and greeted the Warden, quickly deciding that there weren’t enough Republic credits in the galaxy to pay for the expression on Dernal’s face when he recognized the smuggler.
“Hello, Warden Dernal,” the pilot sneered. “It’s been a long time…”
Ah ha, I found this update before you sent the PM. grin
I wonder if Obi-Wan got away from the Warden and his "treatments", would he start acting normal again? And now that it appears that the Jedi are escaping, will he get a fresh start in the Temple, or will there be complications?
Agh, who is this warden and Cordo character? I am so curious. grin
Ahah. This update was absolutely fantastic!
It went from everything seemly all was lost, devasting me, the reader, leaving me in suspence, and then to let Siri rise to the challenge and do the unspeakable in her eyes to Obi-wan, betraying his trust even more than she already did.
Just awesome, splendid writing. applause I definately enjoyed reading it. Thanks for such a great update! And thank you for the PM, it was always nice to see an update has been posted. happy
laugh Hey, what does one have to do to get first response?
Yikes - we're escaping, but we're not escaped. C'mon Jedidas3, don't drag it out. Save us.
While it seems Obi-Wan can't be "salvaged" what was done to him can - with love and attention - be undone. If not, you'll face the wrath of moi. wink not_talking
Basically, at this point, I'd like to say: good grief, woman, what are you doing to us the poor readers? And Obi? And Siri etal? shame_on_you
Another great update, to be serious for once.
Well, on their way to home free. Just have to get Adi out of there. I guess the Jedi aren't the only ones with a plan, seems the pilot wants revenge on the warden or is that just a distraction?
In any case, they must all reach the ship and fly away. wink
Relief is a wonderful feeling. tongue grin
Part 13
Cordo Mangan drew his weapon. Keeping it trained on the Warden, the smuggler confidently sauntered over to Dernal and quickly disarmed the man. Cordo took pleasure in the fact that his mere presence was obviously causing the Warden great distress.
“Something wrong, Warden Dernal?” the pilot inquired, a sardonic edge to his tone that seemed to almost make the jailer tremble.
“What are you doing here?” Dernal snarled, unintentionally backing himself against a wall.
“I made you a promise years ago, Dernal. Do you remember what I said?”
The pilot glared at the cowering man when he didn’t receive an answer. “Let me see if I can jar your memory.” Cordo pressed his blaster against the Warden’s temple, his finger barely on the trigger. “Is anything coming back to you now?”
“I don’t…know what you want me to say,” the Warden stammered as a thin sheen of sweat appeared across his forehead.
“Let me help you then,” Cordo replied. “I promised you that once I was out of here that I would hunt you down and kill you for what you did to me. Do you remember that?”
“Yes,” Dernal whispered.
“Good.” Cordo took a step back and aimed his blaster at Dernal’s chest. “At least you won’t be wondering why you died.”
“Don’t do this,” the Warden begged. “Please don’t kill me.”
“It’s far too late to try and make amends, Dernal.” Cordo’s finger was about to pull the trigger when he heard Adi Gallia call out to him. He should have made her leave when he first got there, but he was so consumed with the idea of delivering his own brand of justice, he forgot about her being there.
“Cordo, don’t do this!” she cried out. “We don’t have time for this. We have to get out of here before everybody realizes what has happened.”
“I’ve been waiting too long for this, Master Gallia. I’m not about to give up the chance to settle an old score,” the pilot argued.
“Please,” she desperately pleaded. “Now is not the time!”
“Now is the perfect time, Master Gallia. You know the saying; there’s no better time like the present.”
“You should listen to her,” the Warden eagerly urged.
“You have no say in the matter,” Mangan interjected.
He almost laughed when he saw the Warden silently beseeching the Jedi to help him. Cordo could hear the fear in Dernal’s voice when he finally addressed Master Gallia.
“I can help you,” the Warden blurted out. “I can help the boy.”
“What?” Adi wasn’t sure that she had heard the Warden correctly.
“I can help the boy, but not if I’m dead.”
The pilot did not have to look at the Jedi Master to know that she was staring at him.
“If there’s a chance that’s he’s telling the truth,” she began, “then you can’t kill him.”
“There’s no chance. That boy is lost. He can’t be helped,” the smuggler argued. “Believe me I know.”
“Don’t take away the only opportunity that Obi-Wan may have to get his life back,” implored the Jedi Master.
Cordo hated the voice of reasoning inside his mind that was insisting on listening to the Jedi Master. He roughly grabbed the Warden by his arm and pushed him towards Adi.
“Release her bonds,” the pilot instructed, “including the Force inhibitor.”
He watched Dernal as he fumbled with the binders and the collar, freeing the captive Jedi. The pilot also noticed that as soon as the collar was off the Jedi Master, she inhaled sharply and then quickly collected herself.
“Are you all right?” Cordo asked his temporary crewman.
“I am now. Let’s get out of here.”
“We’re right behind you.”
Mangan ignored the perplexed stare of Master Gallia as he took the binders and placed them around the wrists of the Warden. He then grabbed him by the arm and once again, held the barrel of his blaster firmly against Dernal’s head.
“If I can’t kill him, then he’s just become our insurance,” he explained to the Jedi.
“And then what?” Adi wondered.
“And then, we’ll see. Now, let’s go. I told the girl to gather up Jinn and the kid and meet us at the ship. Knowing Jinn, they’re bound to run into some trouble.”
He motioned for Adi to take the lead, ignoring the fact that she was constantly glancing over her shoulder to make sure that he and Dernal were right behind her. Dernal would be useful in getting them to their ship, but after that, as far as Cordo was concerned, the Warden’s usefulness would come to an end, despite what the Jedi thought.
Whenever they would approach any guards that attempted to block their path, Mangan would tighten his grip on the Warden and make sure that the guards understood that he would kill Dernal without a second thought. He ordered the Warden to instruct the sentries to surrender their weapons and back away. The pilot could hear the panic in Dernal’s voice whenever he spoke. It felt good to Cordo to be the one causing the trepidation in the Warden.
As the trio cleared the prison, they quickly made their way to a transport that would take them back to the hangar bay. The captain glanced about for any sign of Jinn and the others, but did not see them. He shoved Dernal in the seat and leaned over to Adi.
“I don’t see Jinn. Do you think he made it out all right?”
“I hope so.”
“If they’re not there, we have to leave without them,” he informed the Jedi.
“What? We can’t leave them here. I won’t leave them here.”
“We may not have a choice if we want to get out of here alive.”
“We aren’t leaving them!”
“Can’t you feel your apprentice or something like that?”
“She is still being blocked, as is Qui-Gon.”
“Well, you just better hope they’re at the hangar.”
Cordo climbed in the seat next to Dernal and began flipping switches, igniting the transport’s engines. He headed towards the hangar bay; his senses were on high alert as he continually scanned the areas for any possible threats. The pilot continued to ignore the glaring looks he was receiving from both the Warden and the Jedi.
Once he reached his ship, he planned to dispose of Dernal and get off this planet. He had waited years for this opportunity and he would not allow it to slip through his fingers. If the others were not there, then that would simply be an acceptable loss to him. After he completed his self imposed mission, Cordo Mangan would never have to set foot on Kessel again and could go on with his life.
Amid the chaos, escaping from the prison had actually been relatively easy. The instinct for survival had evidently outweighed the need to stop the prisoners from escaping. The few guards that they had seen had chosen to look the other way and they continued their trek to freedom.
Qui-Gon Jinn knew that he had to keep focused. There had not been time to remove the Force suppression collar around his neck and so he could not call upon the Force to guide him as he usually did. He had to follow his instincts. He was responsible for getting Obi-Wan and Siri to safety and that was what he intended to do.
He headed towards the transports that were crowded with the spectators that had just fled for their lives. The Jedi Master tried to simply blend into the environment, hiding in the shadows as he and Siri waited for the mass to disperse.
“We’ll wait for a few minutes and hope that the crowd thins out. Then we’ll commandeer a transport and get back to the ship,” Qui-Gon said, enlightening Siri of his plan.
“That sounds good. I just want to be as far away from here as I possibly can. I want to go home,” Siri softly replied.
“I know you do and I promise you that you will be there before you know it,” the Jedi assured the girl.
“I hope so.”
“I know so.”
“I’m sorry if appears as if I’m doubting you, Master Jinn.”
He smiled at the Padawan. “You don’t have to apologize to me, young one. I can’t even begin to imagine what you’ve been through.”
“What I’ve been through is nothing compared to what Obi…to what Ben has been through.”
Qui-Gon could see her hardened expression soften as she stared at the young man in his arms. Even without the Force, he could easily sense the depth of devotion that Siri had towards his Padawan.
“Will you tell me what happened?” he gently prodded.
“We don’t have time right now, but I promise that I’ll tell you everything I know once we’re away from here,” Siri vowed.
“Thank you,” the Jedi whispered.
He looked down at Obi-Wan, finding it hard to believe that the boy he was holding was his beloved apprentice. His Padawan’s innocence had been ripped away and buried beneath the shell of the young man now known as Ben. Qui-Gon felt a hand gently touch his arm, forcing him to come back to the present.
“Master Jinn,” Siri began. “There’s an empty transport over there.”
Qui-Gon looked at where she was pointing and nodded his head. He and Siri swiftly made their way to the land speeder and put Obi-Wan in the seat next to him. Making sure that the young girl was secure in the back, the Jedi Master sped off towards the hangar bay.
He hoped that Cordo was able to rescue Adi and that nothing had happened to them. The Jedi Master vowed that the first thing he was going to do was to get rid of the Force inhibitor that was around his neck. He knew that he was going to have to rely on the guidance and the strength of the Force if he were going to help Obi-Wan.
Within just a few minutes, they approached the hangar bay. Qui-Gon parked the transport and then hopped out of the speeder. He helped Siri out and then gathered Obi-Wan in his arms once again. The Jedi studied the scene, deciding that he didn’t really want to go through security again and risk drawing unwanted attention to himself or to Siri.
“How are we going to get to the ship?” Siri inquired.
“Well, I’d prefer to not go the direct way,” Qui-Gon answered.
“So, do you have any ideas?”
“Not at the moment, but…”
The Jedi Master couldn’t help but smile when he saw Adi walking towards them. “However, I think our odds have just improved.”
He motioned for the girl to turn around. Qui-Gon felt a twinge of envy as the girl fell into Adi’s embrace. His Padawan had not been happy to see him; Obi-Wan had wanted to kill him.
Pushing these thoughts to the back of his mind, he stepped forward to greet Adi, noticing that Cordo was making his way towards them with the Warden. Qui-Gon shot a questioning look towards Adi, hoping that she could explain what was going on.
“It’s a long story,” Adi remarked. “It seems that our pilot had his own agenda. Now, Warden Dernal is his hostage. He intends to use him for insurance, so Cordo says.”
“What?” Qui-Gon couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Their simple rescue mission was growing more complicated by the minute.
He reached out to stop the pilot as Mangan pushed his way by Jinn. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I’m going to my ship,” Cordo stated. “If you wish to come along, you better stick close.”
Before Qui-Gon could stop the smuggler, he had made his way to the security gate with the Warden. The Jedi watched in amazement as the individuals that were in line parted as Cordo dragged Dernal to the security guards.
“I suggest that you allow me and my friends to pass, or you and your fellow scum will be responsible for his death,” Cordo yelled above the crowd.
Qui-Gon saw the head security guard try and approach Mangan. The terrified cries of the Warden echoed through the night sky.
“Do as he says!” Dernal shouted. “Back off!”
As the guards stood down, Cordo looked back at Qui-Gon, Adi, and the two Padawans. “Are you all coming?”
Placing Obi-Wan in Adi’s arms, Qui-Gon ushered the others along and watched them board the freighter. He waited at the bottom of the ramp for Cordo.
“Let him go, Mangan,” Qui-Gon ordered.
“I can’t do that, Master Jinn. He has served his purpose and now…”
“If you kill him,” the Jedi warned, “then you become like him.”
“I don’t care,” the pilot said. “I’ve waited too long for this.”
“I told your friend that I could help the boy,” Dernal hastily interjected.
Qui-Gon studied the terrified man, wondering if he were telling the truth. The Jedi Master decided that if there was a possibility that Dernal could bring Obi-Wan back to him, then he had to help him.
“I am placing him in custody of the Jedi,” Qui-Gon stated.
“What? You can’t do that to me!” the smuggler growled.
“I can and I just did.”
Qui-Gon grabbed the Warden by the arm, pulling him free of the Captain’s grasp. “Now, Captain Mangan, I suggest you get in there and get this ship ready for takeoff.”
“We aren’t finished Jinn. I will have my revenge and you and the Jedi can’t stop me.”
The Jedi Master motioned for the pilot to walk up the ramp. He then escorted the Warden inside and put him in a seat.
“I suggest you stay put or I can’t guarantee your safety,” Qui-Gon warned as he fastened the Warden’s safety harness.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Dernal snapped.
“It means that I’ve saved your life, temporarily. I have some questions for you to answer and if I don’t get the answers that I’m looking for, then I’ll turn you back over to Mangan.”
“You wouldn’t dare! You’re a Jedi!”
“You’re right and that is the only reason that you’re still alive.”
Qui-Gon joined Adi and Siri as they prepared themselves for takeoff. He sat down beside his Padawan and buckled his safety harness. As he sat back up and put on his own harness, he heard a soft moan coming from the young man. He reached over and lightly brushed the boy’s dirty ginger locks out of his face.
“Don’t touch me, you son of a Bantha!” the young man shouted over the roar of the engine.
The Jedi jerked his hand back and stared at the young man in disbelief. Evidently taking him out of the prison environment had not had the effect that Qui-Gon had hoped for. Had he actually dared to assume that everything would be back to normal as soon as Obi-Wan was free? Qui-Gon shook his head and sighed in deep frustration. He began to wonder if he would be able to get his Padawan back and if things would ever be like they used to be.
Update! dancing It was definitely worth the short wait. happy
I'm thinking that Qui-Gon may need to put a force collar on Obi-Wan 'temporarily' until they figure out how to help him...if there is help for him. worried
