I got around my "24 hour ban" laugh to post!

Wonderful!

So Qui is beginning to realize that it's going to take work to bring his Obi-Wan back - if such is even possible. At least Siri is alive to explain some things, and Adi seems to understand that Obi-Wan was brainwashed into that behavior.

Hopefully with lots of TLC Obi-Wan will be "brought back" and he'll learn to accept that what he did was imposed on him by others and as such, not his fault.

Yay they're free!!

dancing dancing dancing

Though, as I'm beginning to see, this is just the beginning.

I hope the warden will live up to his promises to help Obi-Wan. He's probably the only one who can.

I loved Qui-Gon thwarting Cordo's revenge.

Great update

Hooray, they're free! dancing

But now comes the hard part, fixing Obi! If he can be fixed! cry

He motioned for the girl to turn around. Qui-Gon felt a twinge of envy as the girl fell into Adi’s embrace. His Padawan had not been happy to see him; Obi-Wan had wanted to kill him. sad Poor Qui-Gon. sad

Had he actually dared to assume that everything would be back to normal as soon as Obi-Wan was free? Qui-Gon shook his head and sighed in deep frustration. He began to wonder if he would be able to get his Padawan back and if things would ever be like they used to be. cry

Thanks so much for the update, jedidas! love I'm looking forward to more! grin

Great job. I loved that Condo was so focused on killing the warden and that you came up with a good reason not to kill him just yet.

I hope Obi will be 'cured' of whatever they've done to him. But I bet it won't be soon.

Well done.

bek: I'm thinking that Qui-Gon may need to put a force collar on Obi-Wan 'temporarily' until they figure out how to help him...if there is help for him.

They're going to have to do something...that's for sure! worried

Valairy_Scot: I got around my "24 hour ban" to post!

Wonderful!

Qui-Gon will be having to deal with a lot of issues and yes, it will take a lot of work on his part to help Obi-Wan. Of course, Obi-Wan is not going to make things easy.

As always, thanks for reading and thank you for the wonderful update on "What the Heart Hides."

KELIA: You're right. This is just the beginning. As for the Warden and how much help he'll be, we'll have to see about that... wink

LilyHobbitJedi: I'm happy to see that they're finally away. And I'm also glad that that were able to stop the warden from being killed. Hopefully with his help they'll be able to start the path towards recooperating Obi-Wan. Wonderful update!

The Warden is not going to be as willing to help as the Jedi think he is. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate your support and encouragement.

callista_gseran: Things don't look to good for Qui or Obi right now. More suspense on the way!

Bastet: But now comes the hard part, fixing Obi! If he can be fixed!

That's the million dollar question...Thanks for your kind words and for reading! hugs

wolf_kenobi: But with the warden there, they might be able to get a better idea of what happened to him, which should help... I hope.

Keep your fingers crossed, but remember the Warden has his own agenda... wink

Part 15

Ben’s hardened gaze followed Qui-Gon Jinn as the Jedi pulled his hand back. The last person that the youth wanted to touch him was this vile man who claimed to care about him. The thought of being forced to sit next to the Jedi Master was enough to make his stomach turn.

He reached up to undo his safety harness, wanting to get away from his captors. Two sets of hands grabbed his arms, holding them tightly to prevent him from releasing his belt. Ben began to struggle against the two Jedi Masters who were trying to restrain him.

“I told you not to touch me!” Ben snarled.

“We’re taking off,” Qui-Gon informed the boy. “You have to remain seated.”

“I don’t care! Let go of me! I’m not going anywhere with you!” he shouted.

“It seems that you don’t have a choice,” the tall Jedi coolly stated.

Ben stopped fighting and stared at Qui-Gon. The hatred he felt for this Jedi consumed him, burning through the very core of his soul. He despised this man more than any of the other Jedi that he had previously eliminated because Qui-Gon Jinn had been the one to literally destroy his life when he brutally murdered the teen’s parents.

“I always have a choice, Jedi. As a matter of fact, right now I’m deciding how I’m going to kill you.”

“You’re days of killing are over, young one.”

“I don’t think so. The way I look at it, this is just the beginning.”

A feral grin spread over Ben’s face when he saw Qui-Gon’s stoic mask fall away. He had deeply wounded the Jedi with his words and the young man was relishing in his small victory. He surmised that it would be rather easy to rattle this man. Ben continued to taunt his enemy.

“After I’ve finished with the two of you,” glancing at Siri, Ben corrected himself. “Sorry,” he said. “I mean the three of you; I will then hunt down every stinking Jedi in the galaxy and slaughter them like the animals they are.”

Ben kept his gaze fixed on Qui-Gon, thoroughly enjoying the look of pure disgust on his face. It shouldn’t take much more to convince the Jedi that the teen didn’t want or need his help.

He pulled against the grip of the two Jedi and found that they still had a firm hold. Reaching deep inside, the youth gathered his feelings of anger and resentment and began to draw from its energy.

The safety harness that was helping the two Jedi contain him was severed, enabling Ben to pull free of Qui-Gon and Adi’s grasp.

Ben was amazed at how quickly the Jedi had unfastened their own harnesses and were now trying to surround him, attempting to trap the teen between them.

“You have nowhere to go,” Qui-Gon warned the boy. “We’ve just entered hyperspace. Our next stop is the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.”

“The Jedi Temple, huh? Are you trying to make it easy for me?’

“No. We’ll be returning to the Temple so that we can help you.”

“Don’t you get it?” the exasperated young man asked. “I don’t need your help!”

The teen was so focused on Qui-Gon Jinn that he didn’t notice that Adi Gallia had summoned the Force and released the collar that was around Siri’s neck. Before he knew what was happening, the large form of Qui-Gon had charged him and knocked him off his feet.

He vehemently cursed at the Jedi who was pinning him to the deck of the ship. Out of the corner of his eye, Ben saw the other Jedi Master quickly moving towards him. In one fluid movement, Adi had placed another collar around his neck.

Ben cried out as his vision blurred and a wave of nausea hit him full force. He desperately wanted to escape from the Jedi who was still holding him on the ground. Ben found that his strength was depleted as his ability to resist began to wane. He was no longer to able to control his stomach’s desire to expel its contents, prompting the boy to heave as Qui-Gon rolled him on his side.

The young man lay spent. Ben could no longer call upon the darkness that fueled his wrath. He could do absolutely nothing as Qui-Gon and Adi lifted him off the floor and escorted him back to his seat.

Closing his eyes, Ben listened to the conversation between the two deplorable Jedi. They were discussing what to do with him, each obviously having different ideas. The woman almost sounded angry, while the man who claimed to be his Master was trying to defend Ben’s actions.

“I’m going to ask Cordo if there is some place we can hold him until we arrive on Coruscant,” Adi declared.

“I don’t think that will be necessary. With the collar on, he is of no threat to anyone. I don’t think he should be left alone,” Qui-Gon argued.

“I don’t want him near Siri. I don’t even want him talking to her. He’s hurt her enough.”

Ben wished that he had felt like arguing with the Jedi. He could inform Master Gallia that her precious Siri was a traitor and that she deserved to die as much as they did. The teen opened his mouth to speak, but the words would not come out. He was still weak and knew that he would need to try and gather what little strength he could, so Ben simply continued to listen to the two bickering Jedi.

“He’s been hurt as well,” Qui-Gon remarked.

“I know that, but until we figure out exactly what is going on, I think it’s best if…Ben is held in a secure place.”

“I’ll take him to my cabin,” Qui-Gon suggested.

“That room is barely big enough for you,” Adi tried to reason. “Don’t you think that…”

“I’ll take him to my room,” the formidable Jedi reiterated.

“I’m not going to be able to talk you out of this, am I?”

“No.”

“All right,” the Councilor relented. “But first, there’s something that I need to take care of.”

“And that is?”

Ben heard a faint click. He figured that Qui-Gon Jinn had been freed from the Force inhibitor. The boy briefly wondered if they would put that collar on him as well.

The teen opened his bleary eyes and tried to focus on what the two Jedi were doing. He saw Qui-Gon close his eyes for a moment. When the Jedi opened them, he almost appeared to be completely refreshed. Ben observed Qui-Gon nodding his thanks to that irritating woman as he- moved to stand in front of the youth.

“Are you all right?” Qui-Gon inquired.

“Like you care,” the young man slurred, not sure if the voice he heard actually belonged to him.

“I do care, Ben. I do care.”

Although he was still too tired to put up much of a fight, Ben tried to resist as Qui-Gon pulled him to his feet.

“Leave me alone, you Sithspawn!” Ben roared at the Jedi.

“I can’t do that. Now, come along peacefully.”

Ben tried to jerk away from Qui-Gon’s hold, but suddenly found himself wanting to sleep. He quickly realized that he had been given a sleep suggestion by the Master. He managed to utter a final curse under his breath as he fell into Qui-Gon’s waiting arms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Siri welcomed the Force as if it were a long lost friend returning from a prolonged journey. It had been far too long since she had felt the warm presence of the Force and she sincerely hoped that she would never be without her ally again. But it was ironic to her that her collar had been placed on Obi-Wan. Although he already had a collar on, it clearly did not prevent him from using the Force. That collar had been the Warden’s way of controlling Obi-Wan. Now, he could not call upon the dark side; now, he would have one more reason to hate her.
She had seen the pained expression of Master Jinn as he realized that getting Obi-Wan away from the prison had not changed the young man’s feelings towards the Jedi. Siri had seen the wary expression on her own Master’s face as Adi had listened to every venomous word Obi-Wan had spoken. Finally, she had seen the defiance in the boy who had saved her life many times by sacrificing himself. Siri had seen too much.
Being mindful of her broken arm, she pulled her knees up to her chest and buried her head. Siri wished that she could forget the conversation that had occurred between her Master and Master Jinn. Master Gallia wanted Obi-Wan far away from Siri, fearing for the safety of her Padawan. The young girl had to admit that she was grateful for her Master’s intervention. She was not ready to face Obi-Wan. Not yet.
She sensed Adi’s comforting presence reach across their bond, soothing Siri’s frayed nerves. Siri leaned over and placed her head on the Jedi Master’s shoulder. The apprentice wished that time would stop and allow her to simply enjoy Adi’s company.
“How do you feel?” Adi asked, her voice was gentle and full of compassion for her hurting apprentice.
The young girl sighed. “I don’t know. Right now, I just want to go home.”
“It will be good to have you home. There were many times that I would go into your room and I would sit on your bed, begging the Force to bring you back to me.”
Siri took Adi’s hand gave it a light squeeze. “There were times I would call out to you, hoping that you somehow could hear me. I didn’t have the Force and I was half way across the galaxy, but I knew that you heard me. I have to admit that towards the end, I had started to give up. I’m glad you didn’t give up on me.”
“I couldn’t do that. I’m just so happy that we found you in time. I don’t know what I would have done if I had been too late and Obi-Wan had…”
“But you weren’t and he didn’t kill me.”
“I know.” Adi stated. “I just couldn’t bear the thought of finally finding you and then having you taken away from me.”
“I’m here now.”
“You’re right and we have nothing but the future to look forward to.”
Siri swallowed nervously, wincing as she shifted in her seat. “What’s going to happen to Obi-Wan?”
“I don’t know. That will be up to the Council, I suppose.”
“You’re on the Council,” Siri reminded the Master.
“I know I am. We will take everything in consideration and then make the best possible judgment.”
“You’re angry with him. I can hear it in your voice.”
“I guess I am. I need to meditate and release my anger, but right now, all I can think about is how he was going to kill you. I saw it in his eyes.”
“I know. I did too. But Master, you’ve got to realize…”
“Realize what?” Adi inquired. “He has murdered at least a dozen Jedi in cold blood and he was prepared to add you to the ranks.”
“Don’t be mad at him,” Siri pleaded. “There’s so much that you don’t know.”
“I’m aware of that, but…”
“Please don’t judge him yet. I know you may not believe this, but he is the reason that I’m still alive. I could have been killed many times before, but he kept me safe.
“Siri, he was going to kill you.”
“I know, but only after he thought that I had betrayed him,” the young girl explained.
“You don’t have to defend him,” Adi told the apprentice.
“But I’m the only one who can,” Siri countered. “He’s going to need my help.”
“I don’t think he wants your help. I saw the way he looked at you and quite frankly, it frightened me.”
Siri leaned her head back against her seat and sighed. Exhaustion had been her constant companion. She couldn’t remember the last time she had voluntarily slept through the night.
“We apparently have a lot to talk about,” Adi said, easily sensing her Padawan’s fatigue. “Right now, you need to rest. Why don’t you go lie down in my cabin?”
“That sound like a good idea.”
Siri allowed her Master to help her up and escort her down an adjoining corridor. She leaned heavily on Adi, thankful for the Jedi Master’s support.
As the pair entered the small room, Siri fell onto the small cot that hugged the far wall. Closing her eyes, Siri felt a blanket covering her weary body. The young girl called upon the Force and snuggled in its warm embrace. She was safe and that was all that mattered as sleep claimed the apprentice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Warden Dernal had been able to hear the commotion in the other passenger area and he had to admit that he was rather pleased with himself. Not for being used as a human shield, or being taken into custody by the Jedi, but for creating such an incredible machine as Ben. The curses that flew from the boy’s mouth had made the Warden smile when he realized that the boy still loathed the Jedi and that his sole purpose in life was to destroy them. He almost looked forward to arriving at the Temple and seeing first hand the havoc that the boy was about to reap.

Footsteps brought him out of his reverie as he looked up at the approaching pilot. Cordo Mangan—this man was a definite thorn in his side. He had not expected ever to see him again after the smuggler had escaped, but Cordo’s final words were now replaying in his mind. The Captain had promised Dernal that he would see him again and that he would live to regret the day that the two of them had met.

He noticed how Cordo seemed interested in what was going on between the Jedi.

“I wouldn’t go in there if I were you,” Dernal warned.

“Well, you’re not me.”

“Thank goodness for that. I’m just warning you that you better watch yourself. When Ben is angry, he is very difficult to control.”

“But you can control him, right?” the pilot asked.

“Perhaps, but he seems to be doing well on his own.”

“Really?”

Dernal could hear the doubt in the pilot’s voice.

“I hate to disappoint you,” Cordo said, “but it seems that your ‘Jedi Killer’ just got one of those collars put on him.”

“What?” The Warden couldn’t believe that Ben would allow that to happen. “Perhaps he’s not as strong as I gave him credit for.”

“Or perhaps he was too weak to even be fighting.”

“Nonsense,” Dernal huffed. “He was fine. He had just had a treatment and all was going well until those other Jedi showed up.”

“So, how did you convince the boy that he hated the Jedi?”

“Secrets of the trade,” the Warden answered. “He has a job to do, a vendetta to fill.”

“Your vendetta.”

“Let’s just say that he’s doing me a favor as well.”

“The Jedi aren’t going to accept that answer, I can promise you that.”

“I’m not worried about the Jedi. Ben will be able to take care of them, one way or another.”

The Warden found himself a few centimeters away from the pilot’s face. “The Jedi are going to want to know what you did to him.”

“I’ll be happy to tell them, for a price.”

“What’s the price?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“You better watch your step, or you won’t make it to the Jedi Temple.”

He inwardly breathed a sigh of relief when Cordo released him and walked back towards the cockpit. He knew that the pilot did not make empty threats and that he was in very real danger. Despite the fact that he had been placed in Jedi custody, he could still have an unfortunate accident before he reached the Temple.

Dernal needed to talk to the Jedi. He had to convince the one called Qui-Gon Jinn that he could help the boy, even though the Warden knew that Ben was probably beyond help. The hatred within the teen had served as a catalyst for the darkness as it grew stronger every day. But the Warden wouldn’t mention that aspect to the Jedi. He had to bargain in order to save his own life. He couldn’t die at the hands of Cordo Mangan, especially when he needed to see the destruction of the Jedi Order.

He's going to need everyone's help and understanding, and I'm sure Qui and Siri will be at the front of the line (or the only ones in line?).

That will be intense - if and when - Obi-Wan overcomes the brainwashing and realizes what he's done.

Excellent update.

Poor Qui-Gon is in for a very rough time, that's for sure. sad

I'm so glad Siri is still behind Obi, I just hope Adi listens to her. And the rest of the Council, too. worried

The warden had better not be right, that Obi is beyond help! cry

Wonderful update, jedidas! love I really really can't wait for more!
