Wow, what a brillant post to a superb story. There were so many good aspects to this update that I can't mention them all, but just to let you know I enjoyed reading this update after the weary day I had.
Thanks for the update.

Sorry I missed an update. When I left the computer for a bit everyone decided to update their stories and I'm still trying to catch up on them all.
Ahha, so the Jedi have escaped! But with that Warden guy and Cordo with them... Things are going to be interesting.
The Warden had better watch his step... Why am I beginning to think he's going to be leaving that ship in a body bag? It's very good that Adi and Siri are together again, and happy to be together. I just wish I could say the same for Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon.
Good updates!

Dernal needed to talk to the Jedi. He had to convince the one called Qui-Gon Jinn that he could help the boy, even though the Warden knew that Ben was probably beyond help. The hatred within the teen had served as a catalyst for the darkness as it grew stronger every day. But the Warden wouldn’t mention that aspect to the Jedi. He had to bargain in order to save his own life. He couldn’t die at the hands of Cordo Mangan, especially when he needed to see the destruction of the Jedi Order.
He worries me. I seriously hope he doesn't suceed in his plan. Wonderful update, I'm curious to see what the Council will say.

Oh dear... Obi has a long road ahead of him, and it doesn't look like the warden will be much help.
I hope they can find a way to get through Obi's brainwashing.
Superb post!

bek: Sounds as though they're all in for a long haul.
A very long haul! Qui-Gon will not only have to deal with Obi-Wan and his situation, but the Council and the other Jedi as well. He's going to have his hands full.
By the way, wonderful update on "Not Myself!" I'm ready for the next part!
Valairy_Scot: He's going to need everyone's help and understanding, and I'm sure Qui and Siri will be at the front of the line (or the only ones in line?).
Obi's not going to have too many people standing by his side.
That will be intense - if and when - Obi-Wan overcomes the brainwashing and realizes what he's done.
I hope that I can do it justice.
Excellent update.
Thank you so much, my friend!
KELIA: I hope Qui-Gon is able to handle Obi-Wan in his quarters
Thankfully, Obi's sleeping right now. However, that will change.
Thank you so much for reading. It means a lot to me.
Gkilkenny: I have a bad feeling about this!
Where have I heard that before?
This was a brilliant update you have me wearing a track in my carpet rushing in to the computer to check for updates. this story rocks!
Thank you so much! Don't worry, the next post is almost done! I don't want to have to buy new carpet!
Bastet: The warden had better not be right, that Obi is beyond help!
We'll see...
Thank you so much for reading. I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Cole_Kenobi: Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm so glad you liked it.
silverfighter: Sorry I missed an update. When I left the computer for a bit everyone decided to update their stories and I'm still trying to catch up on them all.
Don't worry about it. That happens to me all the time. I'm glad you caught up and that you enjoyed it!
LilyHobbitJedi: He worries me. I seriously hope he doesn't suceed in his plan. Wonderful update, I'm curious to see what the Council will say.
So is Qui-Gon...Thank you so much for reading and your kind words!
wolf_kenobi: Thank you! And yes, it will be a long road for them all.
Thank you to everyone who is reading this story. I'm working on the next post and hope to have it up tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. Lots of angst is coming! I just love angst--I bet you all couldn't tell that, huh? Again, thank you all for being such loyal readers.

RE: Remembrance (JA: Obi, Qui, Siri, AU) Updated 4/8!

Part 16
Qui-Gon gently lay the young boy down on the cot in the small cabin that he had been using during the mission. He found a blanket tucked away in the closet and unfolded it, draping it across the sleeping form of his Padawan. Knowing that Obi-Wan would sleep for a while, Qui-Gon sat down and studied the slumbering teen.
The Jedi master was fully aware that he should take this time and mediate, but at the moment, the tranquility of the Force was not what he was craving. He wanted answers. Qui-Gon wanted to know what happened to his beloved apprentice that would turn him into a cold blooded killer. How could Obi-Wan brutally murder at least a dozen Jedi and show no remorse? How could the teen hate him so much? The Obi-Wan Kenobi he knew didn’t have the ability to hate.
Of course, this isn’t the Obi-Wan that he remembered. This was a young man that was driven by rage and hatred. The Jedi couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps there was a seed of darkness inside the youth that he was never aware of.
Qui-Gon forced the thought out of his mind. How could he even think such a thing? Something horrible had to have happened to the teen; that much he was certain of. Now he just had to discover what it was that transformed his apprentice into the infamous ‘Jedi Killer’. Qui-Gon hoped that between Warden Dernal and Siri, he could begin piecing the puzzle together and come up with a way to help Obi-Wan.
He wanted to go and talk to the Warden, but he didn’t want to leave Obi-Wan alone. The Jedi preferred not to restrain the young man, knowing that it would give the teen yet another reason to hate him.
The Jedi Master sighed. Closing his eyes, he finally allowed the Force to embrace him with its comforting arms. He welcomed its warmth as it flowed through him, wanting him to surrender his anxieties.
However, the Force couldn’t tell him what he wanted to hear. The Force could not promise him that Obi-Wan would be all right. It couldn’t guarantee him that everything would be as it once was. He wanted his Padawan back.
Qui-Gon opened his eyes and once again found himself staring at Obi-Wan. He cautiously reached and a caressed the youth’s cheek.
“I swear to you Ob…Ben, I will get to the bottom of this and you will reclaim your life,” the Jedi Master vowed.
Guilt plagued the Master as he felt as if he were making false promises to the teen. Qui-Gon silently chastised himself for doubting in the innate goodness that he believed to still be inside of Obi-Wan. The Jedi knew that he had to have faith in the young man that he called his Padawan. Qui-Gon realized that once they returned to the Temple and it was discovered what Obi-Wan had done, he would more than likely be the only one willing to stand by the boy’s side.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adi Gallia quietly stood up, leaving Siri sound asleep on the bed. It hadn’t taken very long for the young girl to drift off, especially with a little help from the Jedi Master. Walking over to the tiny closet, Adi retrieved her traditional Jedi garb and began to change back into her customary attire. Despite the flattering remarks from Cordo and Qui-Gon, she was glad to be rid of the disguise that she had donned for the rescue mission.
Putting on her robe, Adi slipped outside the cabin. She wanted to check on Qui-Gon and make sure that he was all right. The Councilor was aware that her friend was carrying a heavy burden. Adi couldn’t even being to imagine what he was going through. To discover that his apprentice had murdered at least a dozen Jedi had to be devastating to the Master.
She knew that Qui-Gon would be searching for a plausible explanation for the change in Obi-Wan. Adi agreed that there had to be a reason for the boy’s actions, but she was having her own doubts about Qui-Gon’s Padawan. Perhaps she was being influenced by the fact that Obi-Wan nearly killed her apprentice as well as some of her close friends.
Adi realized that as a member of the Council that she was supposed to be objective; but as a Master, she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do. She had failed to protect Siri and that was unacceptable. Adi silently promised that she would always be there for the young girl and would see her become a Jedi Knight.
As the Jedi Master turned to walk down the small corridor that led to Qui-Gon’s cabin, she met Cordo Mangan coming the opposite way. It did not escape Adi’s attention that there was a hint of disappointment on the pilot’s face.
“Is something the matter, Captain Mangan?” she inquired.
“No, not really,” he quickly answered. “I was just thinking how much better you looked as a smuggler.”
“I prefer to be recognized as a Jedi.”
“Have it your way,” Cordo retorted. “So, how’s the girl?”
“She’s resting. She’s really been through a lot this past year.”
“You’d been proud of her back there at the prison. She really kept it together.”
“She always does. That’s just the kind of person Siri is. But, even the most resilient have their limits.”
“I would say that she’s probably reached hers,” the pilot surmised.
Adi nodded in agreement. “She needs time and a lot of support.”
“I’m sure that you’ll make sure she gets what she needs.”
“I intend to,” the Jedi affirmed.
“What about the boy?” Mangan asked.
“He’s with Qui-Gon. He’s asleep as well. I was just on my way to check on them,” Adi informed the pilot.
“Jinn’s gonna have his hands full. You’d been better to have killed the boy.”
Adi’s brow furrowed, disbelief shadowing her dark eyes. Although she had her doubts about Obi-Wan, she didn’t believe that he should have been killed.
“How can you say that?” she demanded to know. “If anyone can help Obi-Wan, it’s Qui-Gon.”
“If you believe that, Master Gallia, why don’t you want him near your Padawan?” the smuggler countered. “I overheard you and Jinn talking in the passenger area. Suppose you get the boy straightened out from whatever happened. Then what? Do you think that once he realizes that he was responsible for the deaths of a dozen Jedi, that he’ll be able to function? You are dooming him to a future that he won’t be able to accept.”
“How do you know all this?”
“Let’s just say that I’ve seen it before. Dernal turned that boy into a machine and we all know that eventually machines wear out and lose their usefulness. If you can’t fix them, then you have to scrap them. The Jedi better be prepared to scrap this one, because you ain’t gonna fix him.”
Adi grabbed Cordo’s arm as he abruptly turned and started to head back towards the cockpit. “There’s something you’re not telling me,” she stated. “What is it? Where have you seen this before?”
“That’s none of your business, Master Jedi. Just remember what I said.”
She tightened her grip as the pilot tried to pull away. “What about the Warden? Can he help Obi-Wan?”
“I don’t know. I can’t imagine him doing anything to help the Jedi.”
The Councilor released the pilot and watched him as he stormed towards the cockpit. Sighing in frustration, she found herself increasingly curious about the obvious dislike that Cordo had for the Warden. Adi made a mental note to do some investigating into their pilot’s past. She couldn’t shake the feeling that somehow everything was connected, but right now, she could not see the big picture.
She softly rapped on the door to Qui-Gon’s cabin. It was just a few seconds before the door opened to reveal her disheveled friend. The Jedi could see the fatigue that was now his constant companion. His hair was not pulled back and hung freely about his shoulders. Adi was concerned that this situation was already wearing on him and they hadn’t even made it back to the Temple.
“I just came to see if you needed anything,” she whispered.
“No, I’m fine. I was just sitting here watching him sleep.”
“Siri is asleep as well. I know that they are both exhausted.”
“Yes,” Qui-Gon agreed as he looked back over his shoulder at his Padawan. “Even in his sleep, he seems restless. I don’t know how, but he’s starting to fight against the sleep suggestion that I gave him. He can’t be using the Force. I don’t know how to explain it.”
“Why don’t you take a break?” Adi suggested. “I’ll stay with him.”
“That’s all right. I need to be here for him. He needs to see that I’m not going away any time soon.”
“At what cost? Your health? Qui-Gon, please just take a few minutes for yourself.”
She could see her friend struggling with the guilt of leaving the boy. “Qui-Gon,” she began.
“All right,” he consented, knowing better than to argue with his companion. “It will give me an opportunity to speak with the Warden. Maybe he could shed a little light on things.”
“Qui-Gon, I…” Adi wasn’t sure if she should reveal the contents of her conversation with Cordo to the Jedi. She quickly decided to wait and see what Dernal told Qui-Gon. “I hope that you find something out.”
“I do too. I won’t be long.”
She watched Qui-Gon as his long strides took him down the corridor. Adi prayed to the Force that the pilot was wrong and that there was hope for Obi-Wan. Sitting down in the chair that was beside the bed, she gazed at the young man on the cot. The Jedi was startled to discover a set of piercing blue eyes peering back at her.
“Another piece of Jedi scum,” the teen growled.
“You’re supposed to be sleeping,” Adi replied.
“I’m not tired,” the teen countered. “Besides, who knows what you may do to me while I’m asleep.”
“We’re not going to hurt you. We just want to help you.”
“You want to help me?”
Adi nodded her head. “Of course we do.”
“Then give me your lightsaber so I can cut out your heart!” he snarled. “Then when I finish you off, I can go and do the same thing to that traitor who you claim as an apprentice! After that, I’ll go and find Master Jinn and…”
“Enough!” Adi shouted, cutting Obi-Wan’s tirade short. “You will do no such thing and you know it!”
The Jedi stood up as Obi-Wan pushed himself into a sitting position, his eyes burning with fury and resentment.
“I know what I’m capable of and so do you. Let’s face it Master, the only reason that I’m alive is because Master Jinn has the misguided notion that he can help me. Well, let me tell you something. I don’t need his help! The only thing that is wrong with me is the fact that I allowed Siri and Qui-Gon Jinn to walk out of that arena alive. I will not make the same mistake again!”
“There will be no more killing, Ben. Too much blood has been shed already and no more Jedi will die by your hand.”
“You really believe that?” Ben chuckled at the seriousness of the Jedi Master’s expression. “You keep believing that. You keep believing that right up until the day that I wipe out the stench of the Jedi from the galaxy. Children will no longer have to live in fear once and you and your kind are gone.”
“Perhaps the Captain is right after all,” Adi mused.
“About what?”
“About you,” she replied. Adi grabbed her comlink to call Qui-Gon.
“What are you doing?” Ben suspiciously inquired.
“I’m just notifying Qui-Gon that you’re awake.”
“Afraid to be alone with me? Afraid that I’ll make good on my name?”
She glared at the young man. “All we want to do is help you. I don’t understand…”
“There’s nothing for you to understand, Sithwitch!”
Adi tamped down her own anger at the young man. “I think you need to watch your language, young man. Jedi do not…”
“I’m not a Jedi!”
“You were once a Jedi Padawan. I can’t believe that you would forsake all that you’ve been taught.”
“The only thing that the Jedi taught me was that it was all right to destroy people’s lives as long as you got what you wanted. You’re just like every other Jedi that I’ve encountered. Get out!” he ordered.
“I can’t leave until Qui-Gon returns. If you’ll give me minute, I’ll call him.”
The Jedi Master was not expecting the teen to charge her and knocked her to the floor. Her comlink skidded across the floor, coming to rest under the cot. Gathering the Force, she shoved Ben away from her and quickly stood up. The teen hit his head on the wall and Adi could tell that he was dazed. She was grateful that she had a few extra seconds to think of how best to control the teen.
She was quickly running out of options. Adi spotted a spare tunic lying at the foot of the bed and decided that it would serve her purposes until she could find something better. The Jedi guided the youth over to the cot and gently laid him down. Tearing two strips from the tunic, she secured the boy’s hands to the cot. Once Qui-Gon returned, she would see if Mangan had some binders. It was clear to her that Obi-Wan was still indeed very dangerous and capable of hurting someone and he would have to be restrained.
Adi knew that Qui-Gon would not be happy, but if necessary, she would pull rank and make it a direct order from a Council member. The safety of the others on the ship was now her first priority. Leaning over the young man, she studied the bruise forming on his forehead.
“Don’t touch me,” Ben spat. “Don’t you ever touch me again!”
The Master straightened up and headed towards the door. “I’ll go and get Qui-Gon.”
“Run away like the coward you are.”
The Councilor glanced back over her shoulder as she stepped through the door. As the door closed behind her, she could hear the teen shouting even more obscenities at her and the Jedi order. The concern she had for Qui-Gon grew as she wondered if her friend truly had any idea what the future held.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qui-Gon found the Warden right where he left him. Sitting down beside Dernal, the Jedi could sense that the man was full of deception and could not be trusted. But at the moment, this was probably the only person who could answer his questions.
“I’d like to talk to you if I may,” Qui-Gon began.
“About what?”
“About my apprentice,” the Jedi replied. “I need to know what you did to him.”
“I can’t take any credit for what Ben has become. All I had to do was remind him of how the Jedi needlessly murdered his parents and the rest is history.”
“That’s a lie. Obi-Wan’s parents were not killed by the Jedi.”
“They were as far as he was concerned.”
“So, how do you…”
“Fix him? I’m not sure. I guess it’s going to depend.”
“On what?”
“On what kind of deal that you’re willing to offer me.”
Qui-Gon crossed his arms and glared at the Warden. He did not like the thought of placing his Padawan’s life in the hands of this man, but the Jedi wasn’t sure if he had a choice. Letting out a deep breath, the Jedi realized that he would probably regret this decision. However, if this man could help Obi-Wan, then Qui-Gon was willing to pay the price.
“What do you want?”
“Nothing much,” Dernal smiled. “Just my freedom.”
Qui-Gon Jinn felt as if he were about to make a deal with a Sith, but he had to at least hear the man’s conditions. Before the Jedi could reply, he was interrupted by a very irate pilot.
“What do you think you’re doing, Jinn?” Cordo interrupted.
The Jedi Master looked up at the smuggler standing over him, easily sensing the anger that was radiating from Cordo. Qui-Gon felt as if he were caught between two warring factions with no signs of a treaty in sight. Could things get any worse? He received his answer when he saw Adi enter the room. Qui-Gon could tell by the wary expression on her face that things were indeed about to get worse.

Poor, poor Ben. I think that Siri will be fine, but just... Qui-Gon will never come to terms with what his apprentice has become... and I'm beginning to think that there's no hope!
Great post-- please don't keep us in suspense too long!

Obi-Wan's not helping himself very much, is he?
Qui and Adi better get to the bottom of this with the warden, even if they have to use Jedi mind tricks to do it. I think the warden's actions justify aggressive investigation methods. So does Obi-Wan's condition. For the safety of everyone on the ship (and later at the Temple) and also in order to accurately assess how much of 'the Jedi killer' is from Obi-Wan and how much is from the warden's destruction of his psyche, and what kind of recovery is possible -- for all of these reasons they need to quit agonizing and get some answers.
(Not to mention this reader is just dying to know, what DID that warden do to Obi-Wan to change him so much!!)

I think Cordo is the only sane person there, he knows first hand what Darnel is like.
and as for dealing with the Sith, the Jedi do not have much luck in that department.
Their trouble is they are too compassionate for their own good.
Ummm I think I am turning into a sith I do so want to string Darnel up by his fingers and stick pins in him. How dare he hurt my Obi-Wan

Way to go Cordo Don't let Darnel make any deals you know as well as I do he is evil.
Another brilliant post

Wow! Excellent post!
Obi is in such bad shape right now. I feel terrible for Qui-Gon, having to see his apprentice hating the Jedi so passionately. I hope that what has been done to him is reversible.
I hope the Warden can give them information that can help Obi. I'm worried about what the price will be though.
I'm very curious to find out the Captain's backstory with the Warden.
Looking forward to more!

“What do you want?”
“Nothing much,” Dernal smiled. “Just my freedom.”
I really don't like the idea of the Warden demanding to be free if he helps Obi-Wan. Because I'm sure he would try to get his revenge, and not to mention that the Jedi Council wouldn't like the idea of freeing him. Still I'm worried to see what happens next. Great chapter!

I can understand Qui-Gon's determination to help Obi-Wan but I hope he won't go so far as to offer the warden his freedom...though I can't imagine Cordo would allow any such deal in the first place.
Adi is lucky Obi-Wan dazed himself. She could have been seriously hurt.
Great update
