Valairy_Scot:
Wow - is there any hope?
It doesn't seem that way, does it? Thank you, my friend, for your support!
dianethx:
Great job on the post. I loved the discussion with Adi and Ben. I wonder what the pilot is up to????
Thank you, Master. You'll find out about the pilot's scheme before anyone else! LOL
Quigonjecca:
Qui-Gon will never come to terms with what his apprentice has become... and I'm beginning to think that there's no hope!
There's always hope...
Great post-- please don't keep us in suspense too long!
I'm working on it. I've got to get the next post of Intentions up! Thanks so much!
ratna:
Obi-Wan's not helping himself very much, is he?
Nope, not at all.
Qui and Adi better get to the bottom of this with the warden, even if they have to use Jedi mind tricks to do it. I think the warden's actions justify aggressive investigation methods. So does Obi-Wan's condition. For the safety of everyone on the ship (and later at the Temple) and also in order to accurately assess how much of 'the Jedi killer' is from Obi-Wan and how much is from the warden's destruction of his psyche, and what kind of recovery is possible -- for all of these reasons they need to quit agonizing and get some answers.
(Not to mention this reader is just dying to know, what DID that warden do to Obi-Wan to change him so much!!)
I'll try not to keep you waiting too long!
Gkilkenny:
Cordo and Qui-Gon will be butting heads...again. You are right about the Warden...he is evil!
wolf_kenobi:
I'm very curious to find out the Captain's backstory with the Warden.
More will be revealed in time. Thank you so much for reading...it means a lot to me!
LilyHobbitJedi:
I really don't like the idea of the Warden demanding to be free if he helps Obi-Wan.
Wait until you read all his demands!
Thank you for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
obsessedwithSW:
Sounds like he is between a rock and a hard place.
That's a good way to put it.
KELIA:
I can understand Qui-Gon's determination to help Obi-Wan but I hope he won't go so far as to offer the warden his freedom...though I can't imagine Cordo would allow any such deal in the first place.
Qui-Gon hands are going to full when it comes to Cordo and the Warden...like he needs something else.
Thank you all so much for reading. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your kind words. RL has been so crazy this week, so it will be early next week before the next part will be up. I apologize, but sometimes things can't be helped. Thank you all so much for your patience.

I'm curious as to what will happen when Obi-Wan's treatment begins to wear off.
It's hard to see Obi-Wan so at odds with his master, especially since he doesn't seem to even realize that he had a life before, one that involved mutual respect and familial affection with the man trying to help him.
This is too sad. Will Obi and Qui get a break soon?

Oh dear, oh dear!
Qui-Gon is definitely going to have his hands full dealing with Obi-Wan, sleep-suggestions don't even work very well.
And Obi yelling curses at a Council member isn't helping his case much, obviously.
Hmm, I wonder if the captian was once brain-washed himself, or else had that happen to someone close to him.
Either way, he obviously knows firsthand that the warden can't be trused.
Another excellent update,

Oh dear, I sincerely doubt the Council will allow Obi-Wan into the Order like that without a fight. And I'm betting a fight there will be.
I'm looking forward to more, update soon!

RE: Remembrance (JA: Obi, Qui, Siri, AU) Updated 4/15!
Part 17
Qui-Gon sighed deeply as he stood to address the pilot who had so rudely interrupted his conversation with the Warden. The Jedi could easily sense the anger that seemed to drive Cordo, making him even more wary of the smuggler. The situation could become extremely volatile if he didn’t handle it just right.
“Is there a problem, Captain Mangan?” Qui-Gon hoped that his diplomatic tone would calm the man, encouraging Cordo to be more reasonable. Unfortunately, his attempt was futile.
“I would say there’s a definite problem! You’re about to set
my
prisoner free!” Mangan glared at the Jedi, daring Qui-Gon to argue with him.
“As I recall, Warden Dernal is in Jedi custody,” Qui-Gon reminded the pilot.
“He’s on
my
ship, so he’s
my
prisoner.”
“The fact that he’s on your ship does not change the fact that he is in Jedi custody.”
“Don’t you see what he’s trying to do?” Cordo pointed at the Warden. The abhorrence he felt for Dernal was chiseled in his distinguished features.
“I didn’t have a chance to find out,” Qui-Gon coolly replied. He had decided a few moments ago that the smuggler was not receptive to his finely honed diplomatic skills. Mangan seemed to prefer the direct approach, which suited the Jedi Master just fine.
“You can’t guarantee Dernal’s freedom. Don’t you realize that he’s just as much a murderer as that boy is? The only difference is that the Warden doesn’t have enough guts to do his own dirty work. He doesn’t deserve to live!” Cordo declared.
Qui-Gon’s gaze alternated between the Warden and the pilot as he mulled over Mangan’s words. He understood Cordo’s reasoning, but Qui-Gon could not ignore the fact that Dernal could possibly help Obi-Wan. The question that the Jedi had to answer was how far he was willing to go to save his apprentice.
“He’s not going to help you,” Cordo continued, trying to persuade the Master. “Nothing can be done to help your boy. He’s gone.”
“I refuse to believe that,” Qui-Gon retorted.
“You better get used to the idea,” warned the pilot. “You should have killed the boy when you had the chance.”
Qui-Gon could feel his own anger rising. He tamped it down, knowing that he could not afford to lose control. He glanced over at Adi, who had remained silent as she listened to the conversation taking place. It bothered the Jedi that Cordo’s comment didn’t seem surprise his companion. Qui-Gon pushed that thought to the back of his mind, forcing himself to focus on the matter at hand.
“I think it would be in your best interest not to make a comment like that ever again,” the Jedi advised.
“Does the truth hurt, Jinn?” Mangan challenged.
“Maybe you should ask yourself that question. Why don’t you tell us the truth about why you went to such great lengths to take Dernal as a hostage?”
“That wasn’t my original intention,” the pilot growled as he spared a harsh glance at Adi. “Your friend there didn’t give me much of a choice.”
“So, why do you want to kill him?”
“That’s none your concern, Jinn.”
“When you want to kill somebody that is in Jedi custody, it becomes my concern.”
Qui-Gon was puzzled when the smuggler recoiled. The idea of revealing any kind of personal information seemed to force Cordo to close himself off to the Jedi.
“I’m telling you one thing. You make a deal with Dernal; you’ll live to regret it,” Mangan vowed.
Qui-Gon detected the callousness in Cordo’s barely audible voice that exacerbated the anger that the pilot felt. The Jedi Master watched Mangan storm out of the passenger area, heading back towards the cockpit. He could feel Adi’s gaze of disapproval fixated upon him. Turning to face his colleague, he mentally prepared himself for the next battle.
“Yes, Master Gallia? I assume that you have something to say,” Qui-Gon stated.
“I’d like to talk to you. In private,” she added.
“Very well.”
Leaving the Warden alone, Qui-Gon joined Adi in a small alcove.
“What is it?” he asked, a hint of impatience evident in his normally suave baritone.
“Obi-Wan’s awake,” Adi informed the tall Jedi.
“What?” Qui-Gon exclaimed. “You left him alone?”
“He’s not going anywhere.”
“What do you mean?” Qui-Gon’s eyes narrowed. He wasn’t sure that he wanted to hear her answer.
“I had to restrain him.”
“You did what? How could you do that?” Qui-Gon couldn’t believe that she had restrained the boy, knowing that he was adamant that Obi-Wan remain free.
“I had no choice,” the Councilor calmly replied, knowing that it would not do her any good to become defensive. “He attacked me and there was nothing else I could do.”
Qui-Gon was not ready to listen to Adi’s reasons. His only thought was of getting to Obi-Wan. He tried to push his way past the Councilor, but she purposefully blocked his path.
“Please move,” he requested. “I need to check on Obi-Wan.”
“Qui-Gon, wait,” she pleaded. “You have to listen to me.”
“So you can tell me that you agree with Cordo?”
“I think you need to reconsider asking the Warden for help and not because Cordo apparently has some kind of vendetta against Dernal.”
“Then why? Dernal may be the only one that can help Obi-Wan,” Qui-Gon reminded Adi.
“Why would he help Obi-Wan?” Adi countered.
“Because the Warden wants his freedom.”
“What’s going to happen when he’s free? Have you thought of that? He’ll be free to destroy somebody else’s life. Do you want to be responsible for that?”
“What do you expect me to do, Councilor? Do you actually expect me to sit idly by and do nothing to help my apprentice?”
Qui-Gon was not intimidated by the icy glare he was receiving from Adi. He did not like arguing with his fellow Jedi, but he would do what was necessary to protect his Padawan. Qui-Gon normally exhibited a great deal of patience, but he had to admit that his patience was beginning to wear thin.
“Obi-Wan has made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t want our help,” Adi interjected.
“So that means that we simply abandon him? He didn’t end up like this by choice!”
“I know that, but…”
He cut off the Council member before she could finish her thought. Qui-Gon was not in the mood to debate what he considered to be a moot point.
“There are no buts,” he snapped. “I will help Obi-Wan with or without you.”
“Qui-Gon…”
“We have nothing further to discuss.”
This time, Qui-Gon did not allow the Councilor to stand in his way. His long strides quickly took him to his destination. He figured that Adi would be in the process of contacting the Jedi Temple to let them know about Obi-Wan. It didn’t matter to him. Qui-Gon was determined more than ever to help his apprentice.
He palmed open the door to find Obi-Wan struggling against the bindings that had him restrained. Qui-Gon stepped inside the room, astonished at the string of curses that were being uttered by the boy. The Jedi moved to the teen’s side and was met with a defiant stare.
“You need to stop struggling; you’re going to hurt yourself,” Qui-Gon gently reprimanded.
“You need to go to hell!” spat the young man.
Qui-Gon sat down on the side of the bed and began to slowly untie the strips of cloth that held his apprentice to the bed. The boy had stopped fighting, a fact for which the Jedi was grateful. He would come to regret his few seconds of complacency. Qui-Gon was hoping that by freeing the youth that Obi-Wan would see that the Jedi wasn’t going to harm him. He was wrong.
As soon as the last knot was loosened, Qui-Gon found himself on the floor with Obi-Wan straddling him and the teen’s hands wrapped securely around his neck. The Jedi Master managed to get his fingers underneath the boy’s and began to pry Obi-Wan’s hands away from his throat. Having no choice, he called upon the Force and pushed the young man off of him.
He rose to his feet as Obi-Wan scrambled to the far corner of the room. Qui-Gon couldn’t help but think of how his apprentice looked like a frightened animal that had been trapped. He realized that underneath all that rage that seemed to motivate Obi-Wan, there was a scared little boy crying out for help. That was who Qui-Gon had to reach. He just had to figure out how.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adi entered the cockpit and sat down in the co-pilot’s seat. She studied the pilot as he checked his readouts and made sure that they were on course. The Councilor imagined that he was simply trying to keep himself busy.
“How much longer until we reach Coruscant?” she inquired, finally breaking the silence.
“’Bout another eight hours,” Cordo sullenly responded.
“I need to contact the Temple and let them know what to expect. “
“I ain’t stoppin’ ya.”
“I guess not,” the Councilor agreed.
“Did you come up here for a reason?”
“I just thought I’d see if you were all right. That was quite a discussion you had with Qui-Gon.”
“Like I said before, Jinn doesn’t know what he’s in for.” Cordo didn’t bother to hide his resentment and bitterness.
“Something tells me that you do,” Adi surmised. It was obvious that whatever Cordo was hiding was not only very personal but very painful as well.
“It’s not your concern.”
“Perhaps it would help us understand your feelings towards the Warden,” she reasoned.
“You don’t need to understand my feelings. Just don’t expect Dernal to get off this ship alive.”
“You can’t kill him. Whatever reason you have for hating Warden Dernal, revenge will solve nothing.”
“It will fulfill a promise,” the smuggler muttered, not intending for the Jedi to hear him.
“What promise is that?” she asked.
She involuntarily shuddered when his piercing gaze met her questioning eyes. Adi realized that Cordo’s last words were not meant for her ears. The Jedi had discovered his motive for revenge and now her curiosity was piqued.
“What promise?” she repeated, pressing the pilot to reveal the burden that he carried.
“To my brother.”
Adi was not given the chance to respond to his startling revelation. The pilot pushed himself up out of his seat and left her alone in the cockpit.
The pieces were beginning to fall into place. Evidently, the Warden had done something to Cordo’s brother, thereby spurring the need for revenge. She also was aware of the fact that the pilot had been a prisoner as well, making her wonder where exactly his brother fit in the scheme of things.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ben truly loathed the man standing in front of him. This Jedi thoroughly disgusted the young man with his platitudes and promises of help that he didn’t want to hear. How many times did he have to tell the obstinate piece of filth that he didn’t want or need his help? Ben supposed that he was going to have to tell him one final time.
“Get out of my way,” Ben snarled.
“Where do you think you would go?” Qui-Gon wanted to know. “We’re still in hyperspace.”
“So what? Surely there’s somewhere on this ship that I wouldn’t have to see your repulsive face!” the teen venomously roared.
“I guess that’s better than trying to kill me.”
“I haven’t given up, Jedi. I just need time to think.”
“What about?” Qui-Gon silently hoped the he would gain some insight into the boy’s thoughts.
Ben scowled at the Jedi, wanting nothing more than to tear the Jedi apart. The youth was unable to call upon the darkness to help him and Ben realized that he was growing weaker. He needed to get away where he could focus on trying to regain his depleted strength. If he were going to kill these Jedi, he had to draw his energy from somewhere else, somewhere deep inside him.
“About how many different ways I can kill you!” the teen hissed.
“Ben, listen to yourself."
“Don’t tell me what to do, old man. Now step aside,” Ben forcefully repeated.
“I can’t do that,” the Jedi quietly answered, taking a step towards the youth.
Ben looked around for something to use as a weapon. He would not let Qui-Gon Jinn near him again. To his left, there was a mirror attached to the top of a small dresser. He decided that this would serve his purpose. Taking his fist, Ben shattered the mirror. Picking up one of the larger shards of glass, he held it up, daring the Jedi to take another step.
The young man grinned at the shocked expression on Qui-Gon’s face.
“Something wrong, Master Jinn?” the young man taunted.
“Ben, what are you doing?” Qui-Gon couldn’t disguise the disbelief in his voice. The boy didn’t even flinch when his hand broke the glass. “You’re bleeding.”
“Really? I hadn’t noticed.” Ben’s maniacal laughter reverberated through the small room. “This isn’t the first time I’ve ever had blood on my hands and it won’t be the last time. Of course, it’s usually the blood of Jedi that’s on them.”
The teen thrust the piece of glass towards Qui-Gon, forcing the Jedi to back away from him. Ben started towards the door when he felt his grip on his weapon loosen. He tried to hold it tighter, but it was too late. The broken piece of mirror flew out of his hand and shattered against the wall. Ben cursed as he realized that the Jedi had relieved him of his only means of defense.
“Son of a…”
“We’re going to have to do something about your language, Ben,” Qui-Gon calmly stated, interrupting the explosion of profanity that he knew was about to occur.
Ben charged at the man, intending to knock the man off of his feet. His plan was met with resistance as the Jedi managed to wrap his arms around him. He fought with all his might against the strong embrace of his enemy.
“Let me go!” the teen shouted. “Don’t touch me! Let me go!”
“I can’t do that, Ben.”
The young man continued to thrash about as the arms of the Jedi tightened around him. A sheen of sweat began to form on the teen’s forehead and trickled into his eyes. He would not give up. He would not let this man get the best of him. Ben could feel his heart beating wildly as he pulled against the Jedi. He thought that he saw a tear falling down the cheek of his nemesis, but that would be impossible; Jedi had no feelings or compassion.
This went on for what felt like hours, but Ben knew it was only actually a few minutes. His energy was waning and he recognized the fact that soon he would be unable to continue the struggle. The Jedi would win this battle and the very thought of that made him want to vomit.
His hair was plastered to his head and his tunic was drenched with sweat. He was so tired. Ben collapsed against the Jedi Knight. “I hate you,” he whispered. “I hate you.”
He could not resist when the Jedi picked him up and gently laid him on the bed. Ben started to struggle again, but felt a small prick on the side of his neck. That blasted Jedi had drugged him. The teen began to drift off to sleep. He didn’t want to give in to the slumber that was beckoning him because he didn’t know what the Jedi would do to him. As he closed his eyes, he felt a cool cloth being draped across his forehead and another cloth cleaning the blood from his hand.
“I hate you,” he whispered once again before closing his eyes for the final time. Ben hoped that Qui-Gon Jinn had better sense than to be here when he woke up. But somehow, he figured that the obstinate Jedi wouldn’t be far away.

Oh my poor Obi-Wan. Poor Qui-Gon. So, will the drug wear off or how did he revert back to Ben before? This story just wrenches my heart, my evil friend.

Wow. You're just pulling at the heart-strings with this chapter. I loved this line, "He thought that he saw a tear falling down the cheek of his nemesis, but that would be impossible; Jedi had no feelings or compassion". Poor Qui-gon, he's got to be strong to get them both through this.
I love the perspective into Cordo's reason for revenge, poor guy, I wonder if what happened to Obi-wan, happened to his brother. Poor guy.
Marvelous update! Enjoyed it!

Ahah! So the captain's brother was involved in why he hates the warden so much, hmmm...
“He’s not going to help you,” Cordo continued, trying to persuade the Master. “Nothing can be done to help your boy. He’s gone.”
So I guess he knows that from personal experience.
However, as far as Obi-Wan is concerned, we knows the captain's failed to take into account the caring determination of one very stubborn Jedi master.
“I hate you,” he whispered once again before closing his eyes for the final time. Ben hoped that Qui-Gon Jinn had better sense than to be here when he woke up. But somehow, he figured that the obstinate Jedi wouldn’t be far away.

Thank you. What a wonderful update.
It sounds like Cordo has some vital information regarding his brother
I hope Adi gets the info out of him.
Qui-Gon is not going to be happy when the Council sides with Adi

Oh wow, I'm loving this fic. Add me to the PM list, please! So far, Obi-Wan's experience reminds me a bit of the Jet Li film "Unleashed" and the description of the reprogramming "treatments" reminded me a lot of Anthony Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange".
I think the only person that can make a legitimate case for Obi-Wan now is Siri. I hope the council would be willing to listen to her.

Just maybe, if Qui-Gon is persistent and consistent in being there for Ben, day in and day out, perhaps the teen will slowly begin to come around.
But then again, where would the fun in that be?

Siri: “I just lost ten pounds!”
Obi Wan: “Turn around, I think I found them”...
One day Siri asked Obi Wan: “What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my sexy body?”
He looked at her from head to toe and replied: “your sense of humor”.

Great job as always. I especially liked this.
He thought that he saw a tear falling down the cheek of his nemesis, but that would be impossible; Jedi had no feelings or compassion.
That really sets the scene between Obi and Qui.
Looking forward to more.

Oh Obi!!
It breaks my heart to see him so lost and Qui, so far, not being able to get through to him.

As much as I hate to, I'm going to agree with Cordo. The warden is not to be trusted.
Great update
