Meredith_Kenobi:
Okay, so....I missed a few updates. Don't worry, I certainly didn't loose interest, DRL simply kept me from being able to read all the new posts.
Don't worry about it.
DRL does that to me all the time. Glad you are still enjoying this story. Thank you so much for reading!
wolf_kenobi:
It really seems that there isn't much hope for Obi. He seems to be pretty far gone- strangling Siri does not look good. And if they can get him back, who's to say that he will be able to live with what he's done? I can only hope that they can figure out how to reverse the process and can help Obi to deal with what he has done.
It will truly be a hard thing for him to live with!
Thank you for your kind words and I'll be happy to add you to the PM list.
Happy Monday! Here is the next post as promised. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for your patience and your continued support!
Part 19
Cordo shut down the ship’s engines after his exemplary landing. His anger and frustration at one specific Jedi Master had not dissipated as his resentment towards Qui-Gon Jinn grew with each passing moment. The Jedi had robbed him of his revenge and now he would have to live with the knowledge that he had failed his brother.
He easily recognized the fact that he had to do something. But what? The pilot knew that once the Warden got off the ship, his opportunity to deliver his own brand of justice would be gone.
Looking out the cockpit window, he saw two Jedi standing on the landing platform. He recognized them immediately as Master Yoda and Master Windu; Ca’li had always spoken very highly of both of them.
“Just what I need,” he muttered to himself, “more self-righteous Jedi.”
Cordo walked down the corridor to where his passengers were getting ready to disembark. The boy was now wearing metal binders around his wrists. The pilot couldn’t help but smile when he surmised that teen had given Jinn some well deserved trouble.
The smuggler turned his attention to the man who had haunted his dreams, the man that drove him to seek vengeance. Cordo wanted nothing more that to wipe the smirk off of Dernal’s face. Permanently. He could tell by the Warden’s confident stance that he felt safe under the protection of the Jedi. If only Qui-Gon Jinn would look away for a moment, then he could possibly do something.
“Could you please inform Master Gallia and her Padawan that we are ready to leave?” Qui-Gon requested, interrupting on the pilot’s private thoughts.
“Why don’t I wait here with your prisoners?” Cordo suggested.
His idea earned a faint smile from the Jedi.
“That’s quite all right, Captain Mangan. I believe that I’m quite capable of handling them.”
“You really think so?”
“Captain, I’m not in the mood to rehash this with you,” the Jedi cautioned. “Now, please go and tell Master Gallia that we are at the Temple.”
“I’m sure she knows,” Cordo confidently stated. “What the matter? Trying to keep me away from
my
prisoner?”
“Captain Mangan, please!”
The pilot studied the Jedi Master. It was obvious that Qui-Gon Jinn’s infamous patience was wearing thin. Little did the Jedi realize that this was only the beginning of his troubles. Cordo remembered thinking that he could save his brother and he had learned the hard way that Ca’li would have been better off dying in that prison. If the Jedi knew what he knew, Jinn would give Warden Dernal over to him without a second thought.
The smuggler slapped the controls that released the ramp.
“You shouldn’t keep your company waiting,” he grumbled as he headed down the corridor. He would do as the Jedi had asked—for now. The pilot would let Jinn figure it out on his own. He had tried to make him understand but the stubborn Jedi Master refused to listen. Cordo would simply sit back and watch the drama unfold while figuring out how he was going to take care of the Warden.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adi Gallia reached out to the Force, hoping to center herself, but the tranquility that she sought would not come easily. The image of Obi-Wan strangling her beloved apprentice was not something that she could erase from her memory. It had taken every ounce of self control that she had not to reciprocate the young man’s actions. The Jedi pushed these thoughts from her mind, knowing that she could not dwell on her feelings of anger. She had to remember that this boy was not Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan would have sooner died than hurt Siri.
After she had made sure that Siri was all right, she had sat down by her side and held the young girl. It worried the Councilor that the Padawan was so quiet. She could only imagine what it must have been like for the young girl to wake up, gasping for her very next breath.
“I saw it in his eyes,” Siri finally whispered. “He hated me.”
“Siri, you must keep in mind that this isn’t Obi-Wan,” Adi reminded the girl as she stroked Siri’s blond hair.
“I know that. It’s just so hard when someone that you lo…that you consider to be a friend wants to kill you. I just wonder if I’ll ever get the old Obi-Wan back.”
“I don’t have the answer to that, my Padawan. I wish I did. I wish I could tell you that everything was going to work out, but I can’t. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The pain in Siri’s blue eyes was almost more that the Jedi Master could bear. She wanted to be able to take away the girl’s heartache, but at the moment, Adi could do nothing except offer a shoulder for the apprentice to cry on.
“I just wish…I just wish that this whole thing had never happened,” the teen muttered. “It’s a nightmare and I can’t wake up from it.”
The Jedi smiled reassuringly at the Padawan. “Things will look better now that we are home.”
“We’re home?”
Adi nodded. “We landed a few moments ago. I was just giving Qui-Gon an opportunity to get Obi-Wan and the Warden off the ship.”
“Oh, I see,” she softly remarked.
Adi reached across their bond, sending tendrils of comfort to Siri. There was no doubt that her apprentice’s time in that forsaken prison had changed her as well. The Jedi missed the outspoken, vivacious girl that she had taken as her Padawan learner. Adi found herself praying to the Force that the girl she knew would come back to her.
“Maybe I just wanted to spare you having to see Obi-Wan,” the Master confessed.
“I figured as much.”
“I just thought it would be better for you. I guess I’m a little bit overprotective of you now.”
“That’s all right. I don’t mind.”
Adi pulled the girl into her embrace. “I couldn’t protect you while you were away and I hated the feeling of not knowing what was happening to you. So, you may have to indulge me for a while.”
“Like I said, Master. I don’t mind.”
The Master and apprentice parted when a knock at their door interrupted their heart to heart conversation. Adi called on the Force and with a small wave of her hand, she opened the door. She smiled at Siri’s astonished expression.
“It’s a bad habit that I’ve picked up from Qui-Gon,” Adi explained. “We’ll keep this between ourselves.”
“Yes, Master,” Siri replied, grinning at the Jedi.
Adi rose and greeted Captain Mangan as he entered the room.
“Yes, Captain?”
“Jinn wanted me to tell you that your home,” he answered. “Of course, I think that he just wanted to keep me as far away from Dernal as he could.”
“You’re probably right,” the Councilor agreed. “Have they left the ship yet?”
“Probably so. They were getting ready to greet their welcoming party when I came back here.”
“We’ll give them a few minutes,” the Master announced.
“Suit yourself.”
“Thank you for your assistance. Without your help, we would have never been able to rescue our Padawans.”
She smiled as Cordo’s face flushed slightly. The Jedi had not intended to embarrass him, but Adi did want the pilot to realize how grateful she was.
“I’m glad you got your Padawan back,” the smuggler said as he turned to leave.
“It may not seem like it, but Qui-Gon is grateful as well. He has a lot on his mind.”
Adi stared at the smuggler’s back as he stopped just outside the door frame. “It won’t take much longer before Jinn will be wishing that he’d left the boy back at Kessel.”
The Jedi quickly joined Cordo, gently tugging at his sleeve as she silently implored him to look at her. “You know what’s going to happen, don’t you?”
“Yes,” he harshly murmured.
“Because of your brother?” she pressed.
“That is none of your business.”
“You could possibly help Qui-Gon. Maybe if you told him about…”
“He won’t listen! I’ve tried to warn him and he just won’t listen. So, I decided he could just figure it out for himself!” Mangan declared, bitterness dripping from every word.
Adi didn’t stop Cordo from walking away this time. She turned around and saw her Padawan’s beautiful face marred by tears. The Jedi stepped inside the room and gathered Siri in her arms once again. She was now determined more than ever to find out about Cordo Mangan’s brother, but right now, her apprentice needed her. Adi had wanted to wait until she was sure that Obi-Wan was sequestered away somewhere before they left the ship, but the Councilor quickly realized that she needed to get Siri home.
The Councilor made her decision. She pulled back slightly and cupped the teen’s face in her hands.
“Let’s go home.”
Putting her arm around the youth, Adi allowed the exhausted girl to lean against her as the two of them headed towards the exit ramp. As they approached the opening, she recognized the voices of Qui-Gon and Mace. She looked at Siri, who rewarded her with a slight nod. Master and apprentice walked down the ramp and greeted the two senior Council members. Adi kept herself between Obi-Wan and Siri.
Adi and Siri respectfully bowed as Yoda hobbled over to them.
“Good to see you it is,” the ancient Master stated.
“It’s good to be back,” Adi answered, her gaze fixed on Obi-Wan. She didn’t trust him and she was not going to allow him to hurt Siri anymore.
She was grateful that Master Yoda sensed their discomfort, easily dismissing them with a promise to visit them later.
“Thank you, Master. I’m going to have Siri checked out by the healers and then I plan on taking her home and spoiling her for a few days.”
“Well deserved the spoiling will be,” the tiny Master agreed. “See you soon I will.”
Adi steered the young girl away from others as they headed into the Temple. She could feel Siri’s relax as the teen took in the sights of the Temple that she had not seen for so long. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Qui-Gon watching them as Obi-Wan was cursing Master Windu. Cordo’s words replayed in her mind and she was beginning to wonder if Qui-Gon actually was regretting bringing the boy home.
Her heart ached for her friend, but right now, she was going to take care of Siri. She knew that as a Council member she would have a say in how best to deal with the young man. Adi hoped that she would have a few days to meditate because at the moment, she knew that she could not make an unbiased decision.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Qui-Gon motioned for the Warden to walk ahead of him as he escorted the unwilling teen down the ramp. He knew that he would have to face Master Yoda and Master Windu; he just wished that it hadn’t been as soon as they landed. Of course, the two senior Jedi would want to see first hand the young man that had become the ‘Jedi Killer.’
His grip tightened around Obi-Wan’s arm as the youth’s struggles became more frantic.
“Let go of me, you piece of Bantha fodder!” Obi-Wan shouted.
When they reached the bottom of the ramp, he quickly bowed to the two Masters and waited for their questions to begin. Qui-Gon had wanted to get Obi-Wan to his quarters before anyone had seen them, hoping to talk to the boy and get him to realize that the Jedi were not the enemy. Thanks to Master Gallia, that was not going to happen.
Mace pointed towards the Warden. “Master Jinn, I assume that this is Warden Dernal?”
“Yes it is. He is in Jedi custody,” the tall Jedi informed them. “There is a possibility that he can help Ben.”
“I said I don’t want your help!” Ben growled, rudely interrupting Qui-Gon.
“You took him as a prisoner?” Mace inquired, confused at how the Warden would have voluntarily come into Jedi custody.
“He was taken hostage by our pilot, who for some reason wants him dead. I placed him in Jedi custody to protect him because I do believe that he will be useful in treating Ben.”
“Has he committed a crime?”
“What? Of course he has! He did this to Ben!”
“Do you have proof?”
“What proof do you need?” Qui-Gon demanded to know as he fought to tamp down the anger and frustration building within him. “The only proof you need is standing right beside me!”
“Mr. Dernal,” Mace began. “Do you know why you were placed in Jedi custody?”
“I’m not sure,” Dernal lied. “However, if Master Qui-Gon thinks I may be of some help to this poor boy, then I would be more than happy to see what I can do.”
Qui-Gon glared at the Warden. “It seems to me that your memory is failing, Warden Dernal. If I remember correctly, I saved your life by placing you in my care.”
“I don’t recall that.”
“Well, I guess you would like for Captain Mangan to take you back to Kessel?” the Jedi inquired.
“I’m in no hurry,” Dernal coolly replied. “I will stay and see if I can be of any help.”
Before Qui-Gon could answer, Mace motioned for Jedi security to come and take the Warden to a holding cell.
“We will talk with you later, Warden Dernal. Until then, you will be placed in a cell, but you will be made comfortable,” Mace asserted.
“Thank you, Master Jedi.”
Qui-Gon wanted to throttle the Warden but he should have expected Dernal to be more worried about saving his own skin. He couldn’t allow himself to be distracted by the irritating man; he had to keep his mind on what he was doing. He could not let his guard down for one minute. Qui-Gon had quickly learned that Obi-Wan would use anything to his advantage.
He saw Mace take a step closer to the young man. Qui-Gon felt Obi-Wan’s body tense as the dark-skinned Jedi approached him.
“What are we going to do with you, Padawan?” Mace uttered.
“You can see me free, so I can slit your throat from ear to ear and watch you bleed to death,” the boy jeered.
“I think the first thing we should do is teach you to respect your elders,” the senior Councilor retorted.
“If you think you can.”
“That will be enough,” Qui-Gon warned the boy.
“I don’t think so, you son of a Sith! You’re the one who brought me here, now you just have to deal with the consequences. I’ve only just begun and I won’t rest until all of you are dead!”
“You will address Master Windu and Master Yoda with respect!”
“Or what? Do you possibly think that you could ruin my life any more than you already have?” the teen challenged.
“Ben, listen to me,” Qui-Gon started to plead.
“I don’t have to listen to anything you have to say.”
Qui-Gon’s attention was momentarily diverted when Adi and Siri walked down the ramp. Master Yoda had gone over to meet them and in a few minutes they were gone. He watched his colleague and her apprentice until he could no longer see them. They were reunited and happy and he was glad for them. But why did the Force seem to be conspiring against him? He was shaken from his reverie when he heard Obi-Wan vehemently curse Mace Windu.
Breathing a sigh of relief when Master Yoda joined them, Qui-Gon hoped that the elder Jedi could offer some words of wisdom to help deescalate the tension between Mace and his apprentice. He couldn’t help but smile when saw the tiny Jedi deliver a swift whack against Obi-Wan’s shins.
“Talk too much you do! Learn to listen you must,” Yoda insisted.
“When I get free, you will be the second one that I’ll take care of, you little troll,” the young man spat.
Qui-Gon tightened his hold on the boy once more as Master Yoda turned to address him. “What are your plans, Master Jinn?”
“He has several minor wounds that need to be tended to and then I was planning on taking him to my quarters.”
“No. Away from the others he must be kept.”
“Master, he is my responsibility,” Qui-Gon reasoned. “I will take care of him. I will not allow him to spend another day in a cell. He’s spent the last year in prison and I will not subject him to that again.”
“Help you will need. Send a healer I will to your room. We will talk later,” the little Master vowed.
Qui-Gon bowed and began to lead Obi-Wan to their quarters. The Jedi chose to take the service lifts, knowing that they would not have to face as many people that way. He pinched the bridge of his nose as he tried to ignore the pounding in his skull. Qui-Gon needed to meditate. He needed to seek the peace of the Force. He needed guidance.
He was growing weary of Obi-Wan’s incessant ranting and cursing. Qui-Gon was tempted to gag him, but he quickly quelled that desire, releasing his annoyance with the boy to the Force. As they rode the lift up to their housing level, the Jedi Master stared at the teen, part of him wondering if Cordo Mangan had been speaking the truth. Was there any hope of having his Obi-Wan back at his side?

OMG! I told you Dernal is devious
Qui-Gon is beginning to crack under the pressure.
I hope Adi can get Cordo to tell her what happened to his brother.
Some one has to help Obi-Wan, otherwise I will get my trusty lightsabre and
help Cordo do away with the warden
Some how I do not think it is a good idea to have Obi-Wan in the temple, everyone will see him for what he is now a 'Jedi killer'
I just love it when I receive a PM from you
jedidas3
I cannot bear to wait for even one day until the next update this story is so good.

There just doesn't seem any hope does there? There is a horrible, terrible, awful story
that just argues that there can't be any happy ending, only an ending - but I hope the author finds a way (the Force must accept Obi-Wan's shame and guilt when he recovers - he HAS to recover as well as help all the Jedi deal with Obi-Wan's brainwashing - this boy is NOT Obi-Wan).
Actually, I wonder what would happen if someone called him "Obi-Wan" because he's already acting like the brainwashed Obi-Wan even when called Ben.

Dernal should be turned over to the pilot!!!! Nasty man.
Poor Qui-Gon. He doesn't know what to do. And Obi-Wan is practically insane at the moment. Probably terrified and furious at the same time.
Great job.

Ouch. I don't know who to feel more sorry for- Qui, not knowing what to do and having to see his padawan hating the Jedi so furiously, or Obi, confused, scared, and angry.
This does not look good!
I know there's one person I don't feel at all sorry for- the Warden is just plain evil.
Excellent post! Thanks for the PM!

Another wonderful update,
jedidas
!
But this story is so heartbreaking!
“I know that. It’s just so hard when someone that you lo…that you consider to be a friend wants to kill you. I just wonder if I’ll ever get the old Obi-Wan back.”
Me too! I feel so bad for Siri, having the one she loves wanting to kill her.
I wonder if Adi suspects anything of her true feelings, especially after that little slip of the tongue.
*Sigh* Oh, Obi-Wan.
He didn't waste any time insulting the first Jedi he met at the Temple, did he?
I hope the captain gets his eventual revenge on the evil, evil warden!
I want the old Obi-Wan back!

Why am I not surprised the warden lied?
Of course, he'll soon find out the Council has their own ways of determining the truth.
he had learned the hard way that Ca’li would have been better off dying in that prison
I'm assuming that means Ca'li didn't return to his normal self?
That explains so much and makes me worry even more for Obi.
Great update

Oh Siri you deserve a hug.
She's been through so much, she definitely deserves a break.
Qui-Gon glared at the Warden. “It seems to me that your memory is failing, Warden Dernal. If I remember correctly, I saved your life by placing you in my care.”

Stupid Warden lying to them!

Oh Obi-Wan you're definitely not helping yourself by disrespecting everyone. I'm nervous about what the Council's judgement will be.
Great update!

The pilot needs to swallow whatever pride he has and help Qui-Gon with Obi-Wan/Ben by telling him everything he knows. He knows how much it hurt to lose his brother, why would he refuse to share his knowledge in order to help someone else who is facing what he and his brother went through?
He was growing weary of Obi-Wan’s incessant ranting and cursing. Qui-Gon was tempted to gag him, but he quickly quelled that desire, releasing his annoyance with the boy to the Force. As they rode the lift up to their housing level, the Jedi Master stared at the teen, part of him wondering if Cordo Mangan had been speaking the truth. You wouldn't be thinking of giving up on him now would you, Qui-Gon?

RE: Remembrance (JA: Obi, Qui, Siri, AU) Updated 5/5!
Hmm, I suppose that's typical that the Warden would do something like that, lying to the Jedi to save his own skin. But poor Qui-Gon, having to deal with Obi-Wan. I wonder, will anything get back to normal for them again?
I'm really enjoying this story. Keep it up!

I can't believe Dernal would do something like that! Actually... I can. I just don't like him.... at all.
So, Cordo's brother... I want to know more!
Poor Siri! I hope she and Ben get back to normal soon!

Gkilkenny:
Some one has to help Obi-Wan, otherwise I will get my trusty lightsabre and
help Cordo do away with the warden
I think you may have to stand in line!
Some how I do not think it is a good idea to have Obi-Wan in the temple, everyone will see him for what he is now a 'Jedi killer'
Fortunately, not too many people have seen him yet, but that will change.
I just love it when I receive a PM from you jedidas3 I cannot bear to wait for even one day until the next update this story is so good.
What a nice thing to say. Thank you!
Valairy_Scot:
There just doesn't seem any hope does there? There is a horrible, terrible, awful story that just argues that there can't be any happy ending, only an ending - but I hope the author finds a way
I will do my best...no promises.
Actually, I wonder what would happen if someone called him "Obi-Wan" because he's already acting like the brainwashed Obi-Wan even when called Ben.
They'll find that out pretty soon!
As always, my dear friend, thanks for reading!
callista_gseran:
He needed a thwack!
dianethx:
Poor Qui-Gon. He doesn't know what to do. And Obi-Wan is practically insane at the moment. Probably terrified and furious at the same time.
That's a good way to describe Obi-Wan. Thank you, Master, for all you do!
wolf_kenobi:
I know there's one person I don't feel at all sorry for- the Warden is just plain evil.
I think that the feeling is mutual among my readers.
Excellent post! Thanks for the PM!
Thank you and your welcome!

Now this is familar to me It reminded me of my oldest sons teenage years.
/ugh!
I understand.
Bastet:
He didn't waste any time insulting the first Jedi he met at the Temple, did he?
Nope, not at all...and it's just the beginning!
I hope the captain gets his eventual revenge on the evil, evil warden!
Such dark sided thoughts!!! You're not alone!
KELIA:
I'm assuming that means Ca'li didn't return to his normal self?
Nope, he didn't...you'll find out the story very soon, I promise!
Cole_Kenobi:
Thank you so much...I'm glad you enjoyed it!
LilyHobbitJedi:
Oh Obi-Wan you're definitely not helping yourself by disrespecting everyone. I'm nervous about what the Council's judgement will be.
Obi is definitely not worried about making a good impression. The Council has a hard decision to make. Thank you for reading!
bek:
The pilot needs to swallow whatever pride he has and help Qui-Gon with Obi-Wan/Ben by telling him everything he knows. He knows how much it hurt to lose his brother, why would he refuse to share his knowledge in order to help someone else who is facing what he and his brother went through?
Cordo coming clean could really help Obi, but will he? I can't give that away yet...
Thank you my friend for your support!
silversock:
I'm so glad you're enjoying it.

Yep, he's in it to save his hide.
So, Cordo's brother... I want to know more!
Soon...I promise!
Thank you all so much for reading. I'm working on the next post as we speak. Have a great weekend!
