“Some might worry you will go easy on him,” Elisa warned.

Ben made a noise that was meant to be a scoff but sounded closer to a sob. “Believe me, they
will not believe it now.”

Elisa hugged herself to keep his quiet desperation from sinking its icy grip into her. “Oh, Ben,
I’m sorry.”

“There’s nothing to be done about it,” he said in that manner that was both resigned and empty.

Oh my so Ben beat Qui-Gon enough to make him scream shame_on_you cry worried

“He’s stopped breathing,” Ben told her.

She turned back in time to see her scoop their brother into his arms once again. He rushed
forward and passed her. Of its own accord, Ben’s door sprang open. “Where are you going?”

“Tell Grais to meet me in cell 2897.”

“No, wait for Grais here.”

Ben shook his head as he passed through the door. “He won’t make it. I’ve got to get him to
Qui-Gon.”

He makes Qui-Gon scream one minute, and now he wants Qui-Gon to save aiden silly

Crazy mixed up Obi-Wan doh! shame_on_you

This was an interesting chapter - the method you used to gloss Qui-Gon's treatment was very effective. It implied both the severity and commonality of what was going on.

The reaction of Ben's family was also interesting, Either his father is a constant manipulator or there is some real love there. It's a bit of a shame that Ben always feels the need to prove himself.

And finally interesting is how Ben is confident that his Master is a jedi, and can and will fix his brother, despite being tortured. The bit about 'a sign from the Force' was just amusing.

Obi-Wan and Ben seem to be in a struggle. Obi-Wan doesn't like what's happening to Qui-Gon and yet Ben needs to prove himself to his father. He appears to be a very confused young man.

It will be interesting to see what choice Qui-Gon makes when presented with young Aiden. Being a Jedi, he will no doubt help the boy, but will it help his situation any? thinking

Another wonderful addition! applause

“Aiden?”

Just as quickly, the eight year old boy went limp as a rag, his eyes rolling back into his head,
showing only the white of his eyes. Ben leapt from the bed and snatched the slim figure before
Aiden crashed to the ground. In the same move, Ben deposited the nine-year-old on his bed just
as Aiden began to seize.

Elisa cried out and tried to reach out for her little brother, but Ben stopped her with a hand.
“Contact Grais.”

She dashed towards the comm station in Ben’s quarters, tripped over the edge of her skirt. Her
knees hit the floor first with a resounding crack. She muttered a curse under her breath, pushing
back to her feet.

“Elisa?”

“I’m okay.” Just as she was punching in Grais’ room frequency, she felt a spike of fear through
Ben’s immaculate shields. “What is it?”

“He’s stopped breathing,” Ben told her.

She turned back in time to see her scoop their brother into his arms once again. He rushed

More about Qui-Gon's torture coming next. Yes, Obi-Wan is quite messed up. He's scurrying all over the place.

I wrote a very detailed description of Ben torturing Qui-Gon and it just didn't work. No matter how many times I rewrote it. But experiened through Elisa we get a different view and it just seemed better to me.

Yes, Obi-Wan's father is a mystery. We don't really know much about his motiviations. Thanks for reading.

There is a lot of struggle in our young Ben. He's torn between two fathers and two families.

Chapter 7:

Qui-Gon shivered on his bunk, too tired to lift the thin blanket at his feet over his fevered body. Head swimming, he reached out to the Force to let it sooth the pickpricks of fire still stinging at his nerves.

Obi-Wan hadn’t wasted time with the more brutal aspects of torture, but had gone right to chemical inducements. He’d used several forms of distilled glitterstim and then gone onto fire serum. The Jedi Master had wonder about Obi-Wan’s tactic. He had to know that Qui-Gon had endured that much plus more without giving a word of information.

His former Padawan had given him the torture equivalent of a slap on the hand.

Of course, it didn’t feel that way now.

He yearned for sleep, but his disjointed thoughts kept turning to Obi-Wan and the strangeness of their situation. Nothing about the encounter had made sense. He worried that his emotional attachment wasn’t given him a proper view of the situation. Yes, he could admit that he was still attached to Obi-Wan.

But he did not want to make the mistake of seeing a familiar face on an enemy. If Obi-Wan was willing to do his father’s work, without remorse or hesitation then there was little Qui-Gon could do for him.

I am so sorry, Obi-Wan’s words echoed in his sand blasted mind.

He had never known Obi-Wan to be such a clever actor, but he had not seen the boy for two years. Had those words been meant to cause the tumultuous turn of questions whirlwinding in his mind? Or had they been sincere?

He didn’t know. And he found himself on a path he had hoped to never tread again; the distrust of his former Padawan’s motivations.

With a final sigh, that helped dispel not only the pains of his mind but body, he concentrated his breathing into an even and deep cadence.

Sleep had nearly taken him when the door to his cell spurted open. “Qui-Gon!”

It was Obi-Wan’s voice and Qui-Gon’s drooping eyelids sprang open. Above him stood Obi-Wan and in his arms a boy that might as well have been him ten years ago. The youth was not breathing but he shook twice as much as Qui-Gon.

“He was poisoned,” Obi-Wan informed him, placing the boy next to Qui-Gon on the bunk.

An act of will allowed Qui-Gon to turn his head to regard the boy. “How long has he stopped breathing?”

“Less than a minute,” Obi-Wan answered in a clip.

“That’s good.” Qui-Gon gathered his strength, but immediately knew it would not be enough. “Center yourself.”

“What?” Obi-Wan blinked.

“I can barely have the strength to speak, Obi-Wan. I will not be able to heal him.”

If it were possible, Obi-Wan blanched to another shade of white. “But I was never good at healing even when I was a student.”

“Doesn’t matter. You’re running out of time.”

Azure eyes went from Qui-Gon to the boy and back again, decision evident in his face. “What do I do?”

“Reach out to him.”

He felt Obi-Wan in the Force, his presence was shrouded, masking his true intent. But he worked quickly, with a precision that had not be possible in the young Jedi two years ago. He touched upon the young boy with a delicate fingers.

“Now what?”

“First thing,” Qui-Gon huffed, doing the best to keep himself from oxygen deprivation. “Open his airways.”

“How?”

“Its as much science as it is the Force, Obi-Wan. Ease the muscle.”

It was true that Obi-Wan had never had the fine sensitivity it took for healing. He was strong in the Force, a powerhouse of strength in many ways, at least the Obi-Wan he had trained had been, but a healer needed less of the power and more of the delicate. Until Obi-Wan learned a finer fringes of the Force, he would always just be a powerhouse.

Still, Qui-Gon didn’t need to wait long to hear the rewarding gasp as the young boy Obi-Wan had brought in drew in a triumphant breath. But it wasn’t over yet.

“Now monitor him, watch how the poison moves. You won’t be able to identify it but your healer should.”

Obi-Wan snatched the boy in his embrace and the Force enveloped him.

“Thank you,” he said.

Again, Qui-Gon questioned the sincerity.

“Who is he?”

“My brother.” Obi-Wan pushed away a lock of coppery hair from the boy’s forehead. The gesture was oddly tender compared to Obi-Wan’s usual brusqueness. Was this another ploy? Was Obi-Wan just as manipulative as his father? Or did he truly care about his brother? “Aiden.”

Force, he never thought he would have need to doubt Obi-Wan’s motives.

Qui-Gon fell back on his bunk, breathing hard, exhausted and drained. The physical pains that plagued him were nothing compared to the hurt that went deeper than bone or marrow. He’d lost his boy. No matter if there was still some part of Obi-Wan lurking behind Ben, he’d lost something intrinsic to their relationship. And that was worse than any form of torture.

The door spurted open again and an old human male limped into the room. He had a shock of thick white hair, a thin sunken face and grey eyes that took in the scene in one sweep. Everything about him spoke of sharp angles and vicious intelligence. A black case was clutched in his talon like fingers.

“What happened?” the man asked, his voice a rapier in the tension between himself and his former Padawan.

“Poison,” Obi-Wan answered. “I’m holding it at bay.” He quickly informed the man of the symptoms and how it was moving through young Aiden’s body.

“How did it come into his system?” The medic opened his bag and began moving through vials.

“Through this,” Obi-Wan said, running a finger over Aiden’s mouth. The finger came away with traces of thick black flacks.

“Black Cavil,” the man muttered. “Mixed in with pepper no doubt.” He continued rummaging through his bag and Qui-Gon heard the oddly musical sound of vials clinking together.

The man straightened away from the bag, coming out with a hydrospray in hand. He pressed it to young Aiden’s neck. Depression. It was a moment before Aiden’s breathing leveled out, another moment before the tremors smoothed and he lay limply in Obi-Wan’s arms.

“Is that all, Boss Kenobi?” the man asked.

Obi-Wan shut his eyes tight, letting out a ragged breath. A release of irritation. “Yes, Grais. Be sure to alarm my father of what has occurred. I’ll have gan Aussier interrogate the kitchen staff.”

“Yes, Boss,” Grais said and left as quickly as he came.

Qui-Gon was surprised that Obi-Wan did not follow quickly on the medic’s heals. After a moment, the young crime boss rose with his brother in his arms and paused starring down at his former Master.

Did he hesitate hoping that Qui-Gon would stop him?

“Obi-Wan?” Qui-Gon could not pass up the opportunity.

Again, Obi-Wan blotted out the word by closing his eyes. “Don’t call me that. Please. Not now.”

“It is your name.”

Obi-Wan shook his head. “It is the name the Jedi gave me. I am Ben.”

“Why?” It hiccoughed out of his mouth before the Jedi Master had time to think.

“Because ease is never as abundant as difficulty.”

Qui-Gon blinked. It was an old Jedi saying, one that Obi-Wan had been fond of quoting when their negotiations had ended up in a fight or one of them had been severely injured.

“But it makes the ease more precious,” Qui-Gon finished the adage.

He waited for Obi-Wan to explain but no answer came. Instead, Obi-Wan adjusted his grip on his brother so Aiden’s head rested on his shoulder. “Thank you for your help. I will see what can be done for you.”

Empty words, but Qui-Gon did not know if it was because Obi-Wan believed he had no power over Raith or because they carried no intent.

As Obi-Wan turned to leave, Aiden opened his eyes displaying the innocence in azure orbs that once had embodied Qui-Gon’s apprentice. He gave a small smile.

Qui-Gon returned it.

“Tell me again what we are doing in a seedy catina?” Siri asked

Devid gave a scantily clad waitress an appreciate grin before ordering himself and the Jedi wench a drink. Ben certainly must have been allured by her good looks because her mouth never stopped going.

“We’re meeting with my contact,” he explained for the umpteenth time. “Do you have trouble hearing?”

She glared laser bolts at him and Devid figured that Ben was a much braver man than he was. “And who is this contact?”

“You aren’t going to like it,” he said.

She huffed, folded her arms across her chest. “How is that different from my experience with you so far.”

“Well, I could give you a more pleasurable experience, but I thought you wanted to keep this purely professional,” he quipped. Gads, it was so much more fun to keep her riled. Some solid and in the shape of a boot toe hit against his shin. He grunted. “He’s a crime Boss my father has had dealings with in the past. He’s looking to make a name for himself and is willing to help me bring down Raith and Ben.”

“ Supplanting one Boss with another is not progress,” she informed him.

“That’s where you and the Jedi Master come in,” Devid answered. “Raith is very good with keeping his hands clean. I can’t testify against him without showing the dirt on my own. And I’m not about to spend my time on Kessel.”

“How very noble of you,” she said waspishly.

The waitress came over with their drinks and Devid slapped her backside with a, “Thanks, darling,” before throwing a number of credits at her. He took a long pull on his ale before slapping it down to the scratched and dented table.

“If your looking for an altruistic partner, you need to head back to your Temple and figure a way to get your pretty little noses into this mess,” he said. “That’s a lot of wasted time. Now if you want help rescuing Master Jinn and destroying the House of Kenobi, I’m your man.”

“And why would you bother mucking up your hands now. You have managed to remain under the Republic’s radar.”

“Elisa and Aiden Kenobi,” Devid answered. “My younger half siblings. They are innocent in my father’s dealings and I would not see them suffer the same fate as me and Ben.” Her head reeled back and surprised danced in her sapphire eyes. “I’m not just a drunken, if devastatingly good looking, lout.”

“I wouldn’t have guessed,” she returned snidely. “How old are they?”

“Sixteen and nine.”

“Do they know what you plan?” she asked, gently.

He shook his head and reached for his drink, taking another generous gulp. “No. They must not know until I’ve dropped the hammer on our father and brother.”

“Obi-Wan might suspect you,” she warned. And Devid noted that it had been Elisa and Aiden, young and innocent, to break her bitter shell.

Devid shrugged. “He probably does.”

She looked down at her own drink before asking, “Is he well?”

“That depends on your definition. Physically he’s okay, but I think he’s at war with himself.”

“I don’t want to know,” she said, and she grabbed at the drink in front of her and took a rough swallow. “He made his choice.”

“Yes, he did.”

Devid caught sight of his contact, an amber skinned Twi’lek, and stood up. “And it’s show time.” Siri rose from the table and looked in the same direction as Devid’s gaze. She let out a groan. “What?”

“We’ve met before,” she explained. “Your contact is Vordda?”

“Yes.”

“Great.”

The Hutt was being shy. He didn’t want to come into the cantina so Dev and Siri were forced to follow Serville through the city, to the makeshift base of operations Vordda had set up fro himself.

Apparently, Vordda appreciated the finer things in life. He’d set himself up in a suite in the finer district of Da’cargen, top floor. The carpet was luxuries and the linens soft as bantha butter. Everything glittered or shined.

Dev grabbed a handful of Bakurian sweets before flopping himself before the Hutt. He motioned Siri to take the seat next to him. She did so making sure to display her displeasure in every step.

“I see you managed to acquire the Jedi’s help where I failed Devid Kenobi,” the Hutt said.

“Your too heavy handed, Vordda. A Jedi’s like a woman, they like to be courted,” Dev replied.

Next to him, Siri snorted.

“And it helps that my father and brother have kidnaped Master Jinn.”

“The enemy of my enemy as the saying goes. You will help us then, Jedi apprentice?” Vordda asked in his empty barrel voice.

“I will do what it takes to bring the Kenobis down,” she dodged the direct question. “If that means keeping the statue from them, then so be it.”

“That will have to be well enough,” Vordda said. “Serville. Make accommodations for our guests and see what our spies will tell us of Master Jinn and his condition.”

“I thank you for your help,” Siri said between clenched teeth.

Vordda made an odd clucking noise with his tongue, like clapping with wet hands. “Ah, but I need something from you. The question I asked you earlier, I need an answer.”

“I had and still have no idea what you were talking about.”

Vordda looked to Dev, the message clear. “It’s a statue,” he said. “It’s made a Rdilliam.”

“Rdilliam?” Siri asked. “That’s worth more than half the spice on Kessel.”

“Right,” Dev said. “And up until now the statue was believed to only be a myth. We have reason to believe that Unngol came by it without knowing what he had attained. He could have easily bought whatever force he needed to keep the Kenobi cartel away from him and could have easily usurped it.”

“And you think I know where it is?”

“A Jedi Master named Thagger was looking for it,” Dev elucidated. “Unngol had been tracking him in the hopes to take it once it was found.”

Siri face went hard. “Did you kill him?”

“Of course not,” Vordda said. “I needed him to find the Rdilliam statue.”

Dev did his best not to roll his eyes. When dealing with Jedi it was a good point not to make light of the dead, especially on of their own who had been murdered.

“Master Jinn was going to the storehouse based on Master Thagger’s tip,” Siri admitted. At Dev’s questioning glance, she continued, “We went to his room and found a holodisk. He left instructions to us.”

“So it’s in the storehouse?” Dev ventured.

“Or Master Thagger left instructions to how it could be found or he could have left something else for us there. I really don’t know,” Siri said.

Vordda starred her down. Dev was strangely proud that she didn’t flinch. Of course, she was a Jedi. “But you are willing to help us in exchange for the release of Master Jinn.”

“If you get Qui-Gon released, yes,” Siri bargained. “But I have one more condition.”

“What’s that?” Dev asked.

“After Qui-Gon’s release, I want to see for myself that Obi-Wan has become what you say. I want to see him as the criminal you’ve made him out to be.”

Dev exchanged a questioning glance with Vordda. The Hutt inclined his head in a gesture of affirmation. “That is agreeable,” he said. “But once you see Master Jinn, you may not need your proof.”

“Then I will have a special interest in destroying the Kenobi cartel.”

Oh! Great chapter. I really like little Aiden-- he seems so much like a young Obi.

But I am worried that Siri might be fueled a bit by revenge...

Great update. Can't wait for more!

Siri is a hothead and she can get herself into
trouble without even trying.
Usually it is up to Obi-Wan to save her.... I'm wondering whistling

So now we have a statue that is worth squillians.
The plot thickens. idea

Interesting applause so many options thinking

I cant imagine how much Ben is at war with himself over Qui-Gon. Does Qui-Gon really think Obi-Wan went easy on him?
He is up for a whole other ball of wax when he finds Siri is working with Vorrda and his brother. Wonderful updates!

Ok, I am catching up here.

The end of the last chapter was a stunner, and yet it made perfect sense. Luckily I am behind on reading. I held my breath as I scrolled down to see if there was another update. I don’t think I could have waited.

The next chapter was perfect. I was sure Qui-Gon would heal Aiden, but that he taught Obi-Wan how to do it was even better.

And of course Siri and Devid are a very entertaining pair.

Great story. I am loving every minute of it.

I wonder if Qui-Gon helping Obi-Wan/Ben with Aiden will aid him in any way. thinking Also wonder how Obi-Wan felt having been transported back in time for those few minutes when Qui-Gon was instructing him of how to help Aiden.

Siri best be weary of Dev until she's certain he is trustworthy. Is he really concerned about his half brother and sister or is he just playing on her sympathy?

So many questions. Wonderful addition to an already fantastic story. I'm ready for the next post now. grin

Oh! Great chapter. I really like little Aiden-- he seems so much like a young Obi.

But I am worried that Siri might be fueled a bit by revenge...

Great update. Can't wait for more!

He is a reflection of the innocence Obi-Wan has lost. Yeah, Siri is getting a little too emotionally involved.

Dev exchanged a questioning glance with Vordda. The Hutt inclined his head in a gesture of affirmation. “That is agreeable,” he said. “But once you see Master Jinn, you may not need your proof.”

shock I have a bad feeling about this.

Another excellent update. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens. Don't take too long to update! Please! praying

Update coming soon. Yes, our Jedi are in a galaxy of trouble.

Usually it is up to Obi-Wan to save her.... I'm wondering whistling

So now we have a statue that is worth squillians.
The plot thickens. idea

Interesting applause so many options thinking

She is a bit of a hothead. And it is a bit difference between pushing away your feelings and seeing what denying them has done to someone.

The statue is sort of a throw to the Maltese Falcon, and since I'm a big fan of that movie I had to put it in here. Everyone, legitimate or otherwise is going to be after that thing.

I cant imagine how much Ben is at war with himself over Qui-Gon. Does Qui-Gon really think Obi-Wan went easy on him?
He is up for a whole other ball of wax when he finds Siri is working with Vorrda and his brother. Wonderful updates!

Ben finds himself between two worlds and there's enough of both sides of him to be completely torn in two.

I find something so funny about Siri and Dev together and I'm so glad it translates in the story. And poor Aiden, thank goodness Qui-Gon is a true Jedi.

Siri is wary, but she also has an emotional tie. And perhaps in her need to pretend that Obi-Wan is just another criminal she might go a little overboard. Thanks for reading, more soon.
