Obi-Wan put a gentle hand of comfort on the hand still on his shoulder, hesitantly reaching through the connection they shared. The padawan felt Qui-Gon's strong signature wrap around his own, and he smiled.
They were connected

Awwwww!!! That was adorable!
I was laughing all the way through when Qui-Gon was waking Obi-Wan up. So like Qui-Gon to wake up his apprentice at an unearthly hour to go on a picnic, of all things. And of course, he turned it into a training session. Of course, that's why we love him, no?
Lovely wording throughout the story, and I especially enjoyed the part where you tapped into Obi-Wan's thoughts about his Master.
Overall, a wonderful, warm-fuzzy-giving story! As you probably noticed, I haven't been able to get on here that much, but, now that I got a chance to get on here, this is a lovely read to come to!

monkeykelci I'm glad you got the warm fuzzies, I love those, myself. Can never have enough. As far as wanting their relationship to really work, of course he does, what master would want a relationship to fail? Thanks for reading!
Gkilkenny Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Kelia Well Obi-Wan was always obedient, especially after Melida/Daan, a little too much so sometimes. But he always accepts even if he doesn't quite understand at first. Thanks for reading!
Diane He didn't understand, but he did follow. Obi-Wan is always dutiful And he did understand in the end As far as if Qui-Gon let him go back to bed, Qui-Gon says eventually. After a sparring session in the clearing. I was originally going to write that up too, but it was getting long already. Maybe later though. Thanks for reading!
jedidas3 You're so very kind! Thanks so much!
Bastet You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for reading!
Cole_Kenobi Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
JediKaren Thank you!
Jedi-Gon Obi-Wan says you wouldn't be laughing if it were you, now would you? And absolutely, that is why we love dear Quigs, because he is quirky like that and would turn anything into a training session. I'm glad you liked Obi-Wan's thoughts too, he's a harder character for me to write instead of Qui-Gon. I had noticed you weren't around as much, I was figuring you were busy with school. Hopefully once school's out I'll see you more. Thanks for reading!
With the Heart
Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach. ~ Aristotle
"Master, are you ever afraid?"
"What makes you ask that, padawan?" there came a rustling of cloth and movement as he shifted position.
The boy shrugged a little. "You always seem so calm, no matter what's going on."
The master gave a gentle smile. "Yet your eyes can deceive you, isn't that one of our first lessons?" he asked.
Obi-Wan shifted uneasily. "Well yes," he agreed. "But," he wet his lips trying to find the right words. He couldn't think of how to articulate it. His master always seemed so calm and unruffled even the middle of the thickest fight, and Obi-Wan knew he had a long way to go to get to that level.
Qui-Gon studied him and then opened his arms, gesturing for the boy to come sit close and Obi-Wan quickly came to sit in the proffered seat. The Master rested his chin on top of the boy's head, relishing in the comforting feeling of having him close.
"I am not always as calm as I appear," he admitted, holding the eight-year-old closer. "There are some things, that make even Jedi Knights nervous, little one," he said softly.
"Are there?" he asked interestedly, "Like what?"
"When things go badly, there is always possibility that lives could be lost based on your actions. It's a tremendous responsibility," he said gently. "When people's destinies are affected by what we do, yes I admit to being nervous before every mission."
"Before all of them?" Obi-Wan was surprised.
"Yes, and it's an appropriate reaction to have, as we have such duties. But, we must not let our worry paralyze us from acting how we should. Our ally is the Force, and if we listen, it will direct us on how to go," Qui-Gon tugged on the boy's braid.
"Is that how you always manage to stay so calm? With the Force?" the padawan asked.
"It is," Qui-Gon agreed softly. "That is why I spend so much time in meditation and reflection. Through meditation, we can find the Force's will for us and others."
"Yes, Master," Obi-Wan knew. That was one of the most basic lessons taught to all initiates. He hadn't wanted to tell his master this next bit, but even Qui-Gon had said he was nervous before missions hadn't he?
He summoned his courage and said, "I was scared today," he admitted reluctantly.
"What were you scared of?" Qui-Gon asked, rubbing the boy's back.
Obi-Wan was quiet for a long time.
"Little one?" Qui-Gon prompted, trying to get him to talk.
"When the fight broke out," he said in a small voice, "And we were surrounded, I didn't want anything bad to happen to you. I was afraid they would kill you," There, he had said it. He waited stiffly in Qui-Gon's arms, ready for rebuke. He knew better. Fear was of the Dark Side and attachments were forbidden by the Order.
Qui-Gon was surprised at the answer. That wasn't at all what he had expected. Obi-Wan had worried not for himself, but for him. It touched him deeply and he wasn't sure quite what to say.
"Does that mean I'm of the Dark Side now?"
The question startled Qui-Gon out of his musings. Obi-Wan thought that because he got scared once, he was of the Dark Side? He took a deep breath, considering his next words carefully. "No, little one. You are not."
"But," Obi-Wan opened his mouth to protest at that, "Fear is of the Dark Side."
"It is," Qui-Gon agreed, "When it is motivated by selfishness and emotions like hate," he replied. "Your reaction was prompted by love and compassion for other life. That is not of the Dark Side, child."
"It isn't?" Obi-Wan was beginning to feel better.
"No," Qui-Gon reassured him. "But," he paused for a moment, before continuing, "we must be careful that we do not allow that fear to rule us to the extent that we are incapable of listening to the Force's will during those times."
"But it will help us if we listen, right?" Obi-Wan asked, snuggling closer against his chest.
"Always, my padawan. The Force will always guide us when we listen," Qui-Gon replied.
Obi-Wan was quiet for a long time as he considered what his Master had said and listened to his master's steady heartbeat. "But how will I know if I'm really listening or if I'm just doing what I want to do?"
"You'll know, my padawan," he said gently, "You'll always know."

That was very, very nice. I absolutly LOVED this Viggie..
This whole scene seemed like somthing that could have happened in a movie..
I love the way you portrayed Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon in this.
As to my comment about Qui wanting it to work, I was reading a couple of older fanfics the other day and most of them portray Qui like he dosn't want his realtionship with Obi-Wan to grow at all.
It was refreshing to read somthing that has Qui-Gon trying to get past Xani and not dwelling on him.
Very well written and my personal favorite so far!
Can't wait for the next one!

Get the idea I just loved this? So wonderful as were the viggies preceding that somehow I missed. I just love how Qui is such a gentle teacher (at least in fanfics).

I loved the lesson
Qui-Gon never fails to teach Obi-Wan something important.
Also he now knows his student loves him beyond a shadow of doubt.
Lovely

I'm really enjoying these "cookies," especially those of Qui and Obi. The newest one really struck me because of how Obi feared for Qui. I'm looking forward to reading more!

I just wanted to hug him so badly. The poor kid, fearing that he was going to the Dark just because he didn't want his teacher to die. Sweet little boy!
I loved this one. It was sweet and gentle and their relationship was just lovely. Very well done.

Awwww!!
That 'cookie' was so adorable!
I loved that Obi-Wan was only eight in this, I wonder when they became master and padawan?
Such wonderful mush, you made my day with this, Jinngerbread!

Bah, I'm behind on these cookies....they are, however, delicious nonetheless!
Both of these were so cute. I love Qui-and-Obi mush! Qui strikes me as a sunrise-appreciating sort of guy, definitely. And in the second one, I wanted to give little Obi a hug when he worried that being concerned about his Master meant he was going to the dark side.
You're just the best at mush, you know.
