When I started the NJO I liked the novelty of the series, but it wasn’t until Conquest that I was completely absorbed by it. I loved that the whole book was practically dedicated to the development of Anakin Solo. He instantly became my second favorite character in the whole EU (and has since become my favorite). He had so much potential to become the greatest Jedi Knight ever and, in addition, there was the potential for this sweet love story to develop between him and Tahiri.
I refuse to believe that Anakin's death in Star by Star could be the definitive end of his character. He was touched by the Emperor in the womb. As a child, he was always so strong in the Force that no one really understood him, and at times some feared him...until Tahiri. In addition, Master Ikrit's had a vision for Anakin and Tahiri that has yet to be fulfilled.
Regardless of the path that Del Rey takes in the NJO, Anakin will always live on in the minds and hearts of his fans.
I began writing this story after reading Destiny's Way, so it may depart from post-DW NJO. It takes place two years after Anakin's fall in SbS.

Prologue—Tahiri’s Lament
Together we were stronger than the sum of our parts. But now that you're gone, Anakin, where does that leave me? I'll never be whole again without you. You have no idea what life here is like without you.
Jaina went to the Dark Side. She has returned, but continues to battle returning to it on a daily basis.
Jacen was captured by the Yuuzhan Vong. Now he's returned, but he’s not the same.
Your mother nearly squeezed Ben to death when she ceased to feel you exist in the Force. She goes on as she always does, but the sparkle in her eyes is fading.
Master Luke has put together a Jedi Council to help in directing the destiny of the Jedi. But having authorized the mission that killed so many of the young Jedi shook his confidence. Your death can still be read in his eyes at times.
Coruscant no longer exists. The Yuuzhan Vong have re-made it into Yuuzhan'tar…just as they had tried to shape me. I still feel them there, Anakin, down deep in my soul. With all of the darkness that has overtaken the galaxy, I don't know how long I can resist them.
Where are you! Why haven't you come back to me? I know it's possible. Master Luke says his master, Obi-Wan Kenobi appeared to him when Luke needed him most. This is our darkest hour, Anakin. We need you.
I need you.

I agree with you Jade-Walker...someone once said when they read SBS they hurled the book across the room and cried for Anakin..well I love his character and that's one reason why I can't bring myself to read SBS...too sad.....maybe, who knows...he'll come back...

I agree that SbS was too sad. I didn't throw the book across the room because it was a library book. But I wore black for the next two days (yeah, I need a life  ).

It looks great, Jade. Good build up, and you capture Tahiri's grief well.
It's quite exciting seeing a new A/T story beginning - almost like a birth
(That was me that threw the book across the room! The Dark Side made me  )
