Ooh, I like the trailer! Very spooky... I got chills through my body when I read the last line.
Jaina Solo Durron
Yes! K/J! Good!
Very cool ending. Makes me impatient for more. Jaina Solo vs. Ben Skywalker. Now
that
is a fight to watch. I have no clue who's going to come out on top.
Great chapter!

Thanks! I tried to come up with something that wasn't really corny for the last line. I'm glad it worked.
Jaina Solo Durron Yes! K/J! Good!
I actually don't know who I really want Jaina with. I thought that a pairing with Kyp would work much better with this story, though.
Very cool ending. Makes me impatient for more. Jaina Solo vs. Ben Skywalker. Now that is a fight to watch. I have no clue who's going to come out on top.
Ah. Unfortunately, there won't be a Ben vs. Jaina fight. I'm sorry!
The thing is, I just figured that since Jaina has had her ship for 15 years and Ben has been away for 10, he would have been able to recognize the
Jedi's Luck
easily. Even though he's estranged from the Jedi, Jaina is still his cousin and he would probably call off a fight before it even started.
So, I came up with a way where there
will
be a space battle, just without Ben.
Great chapter!
Thank you.

CHAPTER 3, Part 1
“From the Past”
It had taken them a full standard week to reach Yarbra; a week filled with more anticipation than Jacen Solo had thought he’d be able to stand. He had chosen to spend most of his week in meditation, calming his mind and soothing his doubts. Jaina had spent most of her time doing exercises in the hold she had converted into a training room. They had also passed many hours together, trading stories from the past and speculations for the future.
Jacen watched the stars come back into focus as
Jedi’s Luck
reverted to realspace. He felt a tingle of anticipation in his stomach and turned to look at Jaina, who was at the controls. She gave him a little, nervous smile.
“We’re here,” she whispered. Jacen could feel her mixed emotions through the Force. Excitement, hope, and trepidation all jumbled together. He reached out and gripped her hand, squeezing gently.
“I feel it too,” Jacen said. There was something about this planet, this situation, that felt different from the countless other planets they had visited, the countless other leads they had followed.
A flicker of uncertainty appeared on Jaina’s face. “What if he doesn’t want to come back? I mean, if he could have come back long ago if he’d wanted to.”
“This is beyond what he wants or doesn’t want anymore, Jaina,” Jacen replied grimly.
Jaina bit her lip. “Your vision?”
Her brother nodded grimly. “Something is going to happen very soon, something tied intimately to the fate of the Jedi. Ben needs to be with us.”
There was a beep from the communications unit. “We’re being hailed,” Jaina announced unnecessarily. She cast Jacen a worried glance as she clicked on the comm. They’d entered the system in full stealth mode and had hoped to get by undetected. Apparently these pirates, or whoever they were, had advanced sensor capabilities.
“Unidentified vehicle, this is Yarbra space control. We request you leave the system immediately. If you choose not to leave, we will take you out by force. You have been warned.” With that they cut off their connection, leaving Jacen and Jaina to mull over the warning in silence.
Jacen sighed. “Then I’m afraid we’ll have to take you out,” he murmured regretfully. In the years since the Yuuzhan Vong war he had distanced himself from the Jedi and the military as they had engaged in their “cleanup” and rebuilding of the galaxy. He had seen enough violence in those five years to last him the rest of his life.
If not for the Hapan Queen Mother, Tenel Ka, he would probably have spent most of the rest of his life traveling the galaxy alone, searching for answers to his many questions. But he had fallen in love with his childhood friend and soon found himself as “Prince Jacen” until, unable to stand life in the center of attention any longer, he took their three children to Ossus and began teaching at the academy. Tenel Ka had understood his decision; it had never been a lifelong dream of hers to be Queen Mother, but it was her duty, and she never stepped down from duty. That had been over ten years ago, before––
“Here they come!” An exclamation from his twin brought Jacen out from his reverie. He watched on the sensor screen as a fifteen blips representing a squadron of starfighters streamed from the small orbiting space station and headed towards them.
“I’ll get the quad lasers warmed up,” he said, unstrapping himself from his flight seat and racing from the cockpit.
The pilots were good, Jacen had to admit, even if their ships looked to be on the verge of falling apart. They were quick and worked strategically well together. However, he knew they would be no match for the Jedi team or the highly advanced weapons array of the
Jedi’s Luck
. Jacen turned on the comlink headset he wore and spoke into the mouthpiece.
“All set, Jaina.”
“Good, because we’ve got two pairs of enemy fighters coming in on the port side.”
Some thing that looked vaguely like a TIE fighter came in toward the
Luck
, firing incessantly. It was followed closely by an antiquated B-wing. Jacen locked in on the smaller ship and severed off one of its wings, sending in pinwheeling away. The B-wing was passing just below Jacen’s line of fire when he felt Jaina wrench the ship ninety degrees to port.
Jaina glanced at her sensor board and saw the B-wing turning to follow her, but she chose to ignore it for the time being. The other pair of starfighters she’d warned her brother about was closing in. She kicked in the
Jedi Luck’s
powerful ion drives, aiming to split the gap between the two incoming ships. They were quick to recognize her intent, and both angled away and fishtailed into tight one-eighties, which was exactly what Jaina had intended for them to do.
The rush had been a feint, and the two enemy fighters had reacted before she’d even passed them. Jaina slowed the
Luck
down and snap-rolled to the starboard side, firing the laser cannons under her control. A second later, Jacen joined in on the barrage from the quad lasers below.
The unfortunate ship on the right was caught in the middle of its turn was vaporized in a flash of flame and debris. Its partner was now circling around for another pass at the
Jedi’s Luck
. Jaina turned her ship around to meet it head on. The snubfighter met her challenge, its laser cannon blasting away. Jaina juked to avoid its fire and saw Jacen’s lasers streaking out to seek their foe. The enemy banked sharply to port as the
Luck
approached, which turned out to be a bad move; Jacen found his target and destroyed the fighter.
Jaina lurched forward in her seat as she hit the reverse throttle. The B-wing that had been following the
Jedi’s Luck
shot past underneath and Jaina fired the freighter’s repulsorlifts as it passed, sending the smaller ship careening away.
A wave of six snubfighters raced in tight formation toward the
Luck
, preceded by a wall of laserfire. Jaina felt the ship shudder as a few of their shots connected with the forward shields. Then she launched into a set of sickening maneuvers a ship 30 meters long had no right to be pulling and effectively lined up several of the enemy ships in Jacen’s line of fire. He wasted no time in dispatching half of them. Jaina whipped her ship into a roll and finished the rest off with a few well-placed concussion missiles.
Several minutes and a small skirmish later, it was quite obvious that the Jedi were on the winning side. Jacen hurried back up to the cockpit and strapped himself back into the copilot’s seat.
“Do you always fly this thing like it’s your X-wing?” Jacen asked. His face was pale and he looked as if he was struggling to keep his lunch down.
Jaina shrugged. “This baby is my X-wing.” She dialed the inertial compensator back up; she’d had it at 95 percent during the battle. Jacen grimaced.
“We’d better get groundside before they send out reinforcements,” Jaina suggested.
“Yes,” Jacen agreed. “But they’ve probably alerted whoever is down there of our presence. If these guys were any indication, I’m sure we won’t be greeted with open arms. Maybe we’d do better to land further away from whatever establishments they’ve set up, get a camouflage net over the
Luck
, and work our way into the base on foot.”
“Excellent idea, brother. Exactly what I had in mind.” Jaina fired more power into the ion drives and accelerated toward Yarbra.
* * *
She’d been wrong, Rylia thought bitterly, when she’d told Andray that Marec wouldn’t be back in a few days. He had ended up taking a week to return from the Vaguszi village where he had been working out a peace treaty with the tribal elders. A week that, for her, had been filled with calls from the mysterious hooded figure, who was impatient for an answer from Marec. Would he or would he not take the job? Her reply was always the same, “Marec has not been available for discussion on the matter; I’ll talk to him as soon as he returns from his trip.”
At least she’d managed to wrest his name from him. He called himself Romus, and he, like Rylia, dealt solely with “public relations” for his organization. An organization that still remained nameless, despite their countless conversations.
Rylia was now sitting across from Marec, who was sporting a thin red-haired goatee, in the same booth in the cantina they had occupied a week ago. One good thing about the trip, she noted as she watched him, was that it seemed to have cleared his mind. He was less distracted this time around, and seemed genuinely interested in hearing what she had to tell him.
“So you were saying something about two hundred and fifty thousand credits?” Marec asked, smiling. When Rylia had met him six years ago, he had not struck her as the type who coveted money. All the years in the organization must have corrupted him.
“Yes, Romus has been pestering me all week about talking to you,” Rylia replied. She turned away. Marec had been blessed with beautiful white teeth, and his smile never failed to knot her stomach.
“Oh, on a first-name basis with him now, are we? Wasn’t this the man with the cloak? I thought they never revealed their identities.” Marec raised an eyebrow.
Rylia frowned. “Do you want to know what the job is or not?”
“Sorry. Go ahead.”
“Well, you won’t believe this, but they want you to bring Ben Skywalker to them. Alive. And I thought he was dead!”
Rylia was studying Marec carefully as she spoke. She thought she saw what was a flash of fear on his face, but it was quickly replaced with a look of genuine surprise.
“Ben Skywalker, huh?” Marec’s voice was falsely casual. “I thought he was dead, too.”
“So will you take the job?”
“No one’s seen him in ten years. It would be a challenge to find him.”
“Since when have you ever backed down from a challenge?”
A beep from Marec’s comlink interrupted the conversation before he could answer. With a feeling of deja vu, Rylia watched as he thumbed the comlink on.
“Marec.”
“Hey boss, it’s Bellin. I’ve got some bad news.” Bellin was the female Devaronian in charge of security up in the space station. Her voice was slightly garbled by static, but she was clearly distressed. “A ship got past security. They landed about one hundred and fifty kilometers southeast of the base. I alerted a couple of the squads on duty and they’ve taken some speeders to the site.”
Marec’s eyes widened in alarm, startling Rylia. Marec was hardly ever alarmed by anything. Surprised, yes, but never alarmed.
“I’ll be right there,” Marec said. This was his fault. He knew he should have stationed more fighters up there, but after the previous battle many of the ships had been damaged. Without a proper maintenance crew, repairs were slow.
“We’ve got it covered, Marec,” Bellin said quickly. “Just letting you know about the situation, that’s all. Really, boss, you just got back.”
“No. We can’t take any chances.” Marec’s voice was sharp. “Give me the coordinates.” Bellin listed off the coordinates, which Marec copied into his datapad. Then he thumbed off the comlink and slid from the booth.
“Sorry, Rylia,” he apologized.
“It’s just a ship,” Rylia said sourly. She resented him for leaving her again.
Marec either didn’t hear her or decided to ignore her comment, for he swept distractedly out of the cantina without sparing her another glance.
“But it’s not ‘just a ship’ to you, is it?” Rylia whispered, following his exit with her eyes.

And the plot thickens.... I'm reallly starting to like Rylia.
The funny thing is, when I first planned out this story Rylia was supposed to be someone people didn't like. However, when I actually started to write this, she kind of morphed into someone I actually felt sympathy for. I like her too!
Are we gonna find out how Luke and Mara died? And why everyone thought Ben was dead, too??
All will be revealed, do not worry.
More soon??! Please?
I'll try to get it up soon. It's neat to that people are actually excited about this!

And they usually come true, too.
I loved seeing Jaina and Jacen in action!
You'll get to see them in action quite a bit. I didn't really care for the twins much in the NJO, but it's different when you are writing them some twenty years later. I never thought I'd enjoy writing about them as much as I have been!
I also loved how she called the Luck her X-wing
Yes, she's kind of followed her dad and aunt's path in flying larger ships, but she'd still an X-wing pilot at heart.
Ben/Jaina/Jacen reunion coming up! (I hope)
There will definitely be one.
