	Author's Note: This will probably be the last update to this story for the next week or so. School starts tomorrow so I'm going to be kind of busy. I don't think I'll be able to update this twice a week throughout the school year, but I will post as often as possible. I'm going to try to write as much as I can in the little time I have to do it, so don't worry, I will see this through to the end. I promise. ________________________________________________ Chapter 3, Part 2 The plan, Jacen decided, had gone well up to the part where they had to make their way discreetly through the forest and into the base. Apparently someone had been tracking them, because they had barely made it two hundred meters from Jedi’s Luck when they heard the familiar whine of a speederbike and at least two speeders approaching. Jaina and Jacen had done their best to conceal themselves the foliage, but when the squads arrived and opened fire on the Luck, Jacen knew there would be a fight. His sister would not stand aside while her ship was blasted apart. Cursing the camouflage netting, which was less effective the closer one got to the ship, Jaina leapt up from the bushes where she had been hiding and pulled out her blaster. She leaned around a tree and fired at the closest target. Jacen groaned inwardly as a round of return fire sizzled through the air above his head. He stood and ignited his green-hued lightsaber blade. “Jedi!” he heard someone shout. Drawing his own blaster, Jacen ducked behind a tree close to Jaina’s. More blaster bolts filled the air around them. “What’s the plan?” Jacen asked. “It looks like we’ll just have to fight our way out,” Jaina said. “It’s the only way we’ll be able to get to the base.” Nodding, Jacen stepped from behind his tree and fired at the blaster rifle of a tall Trandoshan. His eyes scanned the clearing. There were about a dozen armor-clad figures standing there in tight formation, all with their blasters pointed his way. His right hand spun his lightsaber furiously, deflecting the wave of incoming shots. Jacen fired two more times, one hit the blaster arm of a stout human, but the other streaked harmlessly over his head. Grimacing, Jacen retreated behind his tree. “This is going to take too long,” he hissed. Jaina nodded grimly. “Then we’ll have to go out and face them head on.” With that she was gone, her lightsaber a blur of purple. Jacen ducked as more blaster fire headed his way, then rushed out after her. Suddenly, his danger sense screamed an alarm and he launched himself backflip, the forward inertia from his charge making it slightly awkward. Laserfire from a speederbike attacked the spot Jacen had occupied seconds before. The speederbike’s lasers tracked him, violently splintering and charring the tree he had landed behind. Jacen dropped flat on the forest floor, returned his blaster to its holder, rolled to his right, then leapt to his feet behind a larger tree. Then he leaned around the trunk and hurled his lightsaber in the direction of the speederbike. He guided it with the Force, making its flight erratic, then zeroed in on his target and drove the blade into the side of the bike. The security squad members near the bike dove for cover, and as the vehicle exploded in a burst of flame and sparks, Jacen quickly withdrew the blade and pulled it toward him. The metal hilt was warm when it slapped into his palm. He felt the diminishing of life through the Force and guessed that the explosion had killed at least three beings. Fighting back his remorse, Jacen emerged from the foliage and strode toward the remaining enemies and his sister. His lightsaber clutched in a two-handed grip, he opened himself fully to the Force and allowed it to guide his hands as they deflected blaster fire. He could see Jaina ahead of him, he could sense her in the Force, her presence like a beacon of light in the dark. Jacen moved in behind her to prevent his twin from being surrounded by the enemy. They communicated through the Force, using the bond they shared since their days in the their mother’s womb, and together they were a formidable team. Jacen could feel the mixture of fear and determination emanating from the humans and aliens as they leveled their blasters at him. He deflected fire from a bearded man easily, then darted forward and severed the business end of his enemy’s blaster. A small Force push sent the man stumbling into one of his comrades, and the two of them tumbled into the thorny bushes behind them. Jacen turned quickly and found the muzzle of a blaster rifle staring him in the face. He instantly dropped to a squat and the deadly lance of energy flashed past the top of his head, burning a hole in the ground behind him. Leaning back on his right hand, Jacen struck out with his left leg and swept his opponent off his feet. Then he struck out with his lightsaber and sliced the rifle in half. He leapt to his feet and moved to rejoin his sister, who was just finishing up with a particularly large Aqualish. Then Jacen’s danger sense flared and he spun around. The opponent he thought he’d finished was on his feet again and leapt toward Jacen with a dagger in each hand. Jacen fell over backwards and as his shoulder blades connected with the earth he kicked straight up with his left foot and caught his foe under the chin with the toe of his boot as the man flew past. Jacen rolled over and pushed himself to his feet, and immediately sensed the blaster aiming at the back of his head. The hair on the back of his neck prickled. He whirled, bringing his lightsaber up to sever the arm of the blaster’s owner–– And connected with a sizzling yellow lightsaber blade. Jacen stepped back, lowering his own weapon. The clearing was suddenly silent, except for the gentle humming of three ignited lightsabers. A woman holding a blaster was sprawled on the ground at his feet, but Jacen paid her no attention. He stared in undisguised disbelief at the owner of the yellow lightsaber. “Ben?” Jacen felt Jaina move up behind him. The man before them was nearly two meters tall with unkempt black hair and was almost unrecognizable as their cousin who had run away at sixteen. Jacen reached toward him with the Force and sensed the reluctance with which the other man reached back, but he allowed Jacen to confirm his identity. Everyone thought he was dead except for those close to situation. It's kind of like that with Ben. Rylia thought Ben was dead, like pretty much the rest of the galaxy because she's just a random citizen with no relation to the Jedi or Ben. Everyone knows his parents are dead and Ben himself has been gone so long that most just assume he's dead as well. After all, who can really remember events that took place ten years ago and happened to someone you'd never met? The Jedi, on the other hand, all knew Ben well and knew he ran away. They know more about the events surrounding Luke and Mara's deaths. They also probably would have felt it if Ben died. So for ten years they know he's alive, they just can't find him. Everyone else only knows only what the holonet tells them, which is practically nothing for the past eight or nine years. Hope that clears things up. Great post, BTW. Really loved the way you got into Jacen's head especially. Thank you. I hope you thought Jacen was in-character. Just one question. Was the girl with the blaster sprawled at Jacen's feet Rylia, by any chance? No, Ben/Marec left her behind in the cantina. More soon, maybe?? 	So Ben has returned. I'm wondering if he'll decide to go back with them. Afterall, he ran away for a reason. And you mentioned in your above post that Mara and Luke are dead. 	Hey, just found this and thought I'd give it a read. Very glad that I did! You're a great writer. You have a very nice, flowing style and obviously a knack for hooking the reader into the story with these teases of information! And I loved the trailer...that was awesome. The only bad thing...Luke and Mara are dead! sniff Okay, I know it probably has to be that way for your story to work, but, but, Luke is DEAD! You do so well with the space battles and the ground fights (I'm jealous). I normally hate fight scenes and tend to skim through them, but yours were very easy to follow. I can't wait to find out what's happened to drive Ben away from his family like this. P.S. Are you SURE that Luke is really dead? I'd been implying it a lot and I think someone already mentioned that they hoped to find out how they died. I'm a really big fan of Luke and Mara (which is why I love your story!) so I was not happy with the idea that they had to be dead. Ben and this whole plot just kind of walked into my, though, and I really felt that I had to write this. You do so well with the space battles and the ground fights (I'm jealous). I really don't like fics that start out with space battles and all that (I tend to get bored ) but then I just went ahead and wrote one that did exactly that! P.S. I think that after a chapter or two more I'm going to write a section that will take a few chapters that goes back into the past, so that shows all these events the characters have been referring to and give the readers more background information. There was that little bit at the beginning and there'll be a lot more as the story progresses. You'll get to see them at the beginning of their marriage when I write the chapters that deal with what happened ten years ago. There's also going to be some H/L and J/TK coming up, even Ben will have some romance! So he's got black hair and a red goatee? Or did I read that wrong? No, you read it correctly. But if you go back and read the beginning of chapter two, you'll find that he has "dyed black hair." JainaDurron: Great postie.
