I just read through the whole thing and I don't think there is anything like a birthright with the Jedi. Ben has been on the run from his past for ten years? Well, so far so good and I was really confused at first.

Well I haven't had many chances to write in the past couple weeks.
I'm still trying to get into the groove of everything, so I'm hoping my schedule will settle down.
SilSolo
: I'm sorry that you found this story confusing. I guess it's like that at first.
About the birthright; I don't think there's a Jedi birthright either, but what I meant was a
Skywalker
birthright. There is one, but it's not that big of a deal. It will show up toward the end. The reason that I put "birthright" in the first place, though, was because I didn't want to use "destiny". I thought that "claim his destiny" sounded too cliche, but that is how you can think of it.

I'd really like to give you all an update, but I've had so much homework and so much practicing to do. . .
Plus my mom think this is a waste of time.

Wow, how long has it been? Half a year? I'm so sorry
Darth Real Life caught me and wouldn't let go. I did manage to finish this short update, however, and I hope it will tide any faithful readers over until the next update, whenever that might be. Enjoy!

CHAPTER 4, Part 1
“Ben.”
In the sudden silence of the clearing, the name seemed to ring in Ben’s head. The sound of it had become something foreign to him, but at the same time it had this feeling of
rightness
to it; it belonged to him. Somehow, that single syllable had become the secret password to a part of his mind he’d kept locked securely away. The floodgates opened; a wave of hidden memories flashed before his eyes.
How long had it been since someone had called him by that name, his given name? Too long. Much too long. Ben suppressed the roiling feelings that had begun to rise up in his chest and looked steadily back at Jacen. His cousin’s eyes were soft, and the sadness Ben saw in them seemed to bring out the tired lines that were starting to gather at the corners. He longed to bask in the comforting calm Jacen always seemed to project.
Now, however, was not the time for reunion, especially with what remained of the security crews watching them with undisguised curiosity. Stifling the guilt that rose like bile inside him, Ben turned and surveyed the damage. Five injured, four dead. If he’d only acted more decisively, those four members of his organization might still be alive. Ben felt a surge of anger – anger directed at himself and no one else – and fought to quell it. He had enough self hate to deal with as it was.
He deactivated his lightsaber and turned to Sarai, the woman who lead this squad. “We need to get everyone back to base. You can use my speeder if you need to. The medical crews have been alerted; they’ll be ready.”
“You knew they were coming?” Sarai’s gray eyes flicked briefly to Jacen and Jaina, then returned to Ben’s face.
Ben felt his chest tighten at the mixture of pain and mild accusation in the woman’s voice. “I wasn’t sure,” he said. “But when I got the call from Bellin I headed out as soon as I could.” He sighed. “I’m sorry.”
Sarai blinked, and Ben could see her surprise at his uncustomary display of remorse, though she hid it well. Then, wiping at the sweat and grime on her face, she turned to her squad. “Well, you heard the man. Let’s get everyone back to base before we lose anyone else.”
As the others began to move, Ben closed his eyes for a moment.
I have so much explaining to do.
“We’re sorry,” Jaina said softly. She had moved to his side. “We didn’t mean for it to be like this.”
“It’s my fault, Jaina. I should have known. After Jysella . . . ” He shook his head. “But what’s done is done. Can we just move on?”
“At least let us help get everyone to the base,” Jaina insisted.
“You’ve done enough. It would probably be best if you just went back to your ship. I’m going to help clean up this mess, but I can get you to the docking bay when I’m done.”
“So you’re willing to talk to us?”
Ben nodded, though somewhat reluctantly. “You deserve at least that much, after all these years.” He turned away then, but Jacen caught what appeared to be a flash of pain on his face.
Closing his hand gently around Jaina’s right arm, Jacen lead his sister back to the
Jedi’s Luck.
They pulled off the camo net and Jaina warmed up the ship for the short flight.
“Well, that was a disaster,” Jacen sighed, flopping into copilot’s seat. He dropped his head into his hands and massaged his temples.
“They did shoot first,” Jaina pointed out. “But you’re right; that was definitely not how I’d envisioned it.”
She looked out the
Luck’s
expansive canopy and watched as Sarai and Ben lifted an injured man off the forest floor and carried him to a speeder.
“He’s changed so much.”
Jacen raised his head. “In a good way?”
“I don’t know. You’re the perceptive one, Jacen. You tell me.”
Following her gaze, Jacen observed their cousin for a moment. “He’s matured. But he’s not entirely at peace,” Jacen decided.
Jaina pursed her lips. Ben had made an extremely poor choice in running away at sixteen. She hadn’t really been surprised at it, though. He had always been impulsive, and, at that time in his life, terribly angst-ridden. His world had come crashing down on him, and he’d seemed to have forgotten that he still had a supportive family. They would have been more than willing to help him pull himself together. As always, though, Ben had felt the need to take matters into his own hands.
Having fought a war for most of her adolescence, Jaina was no stranger to great physical and emotional pain. She understood how Ben must have felt, and she had to admit that she couldn’t blame him entirely for his actions. She herself had not been particularly easy to deal with after Myrkr.
“I almost didn’t recognize him,” Jacen said suddenly, bringing Jaina from her reverie.
“Well, he did dye his hair.”
Jacen nodded. “Yes, but he’s changed physically in other ways, too.”
Jaina had to agree. Ben had once had a very boyish face, like his father, but now the blue eyes and cleft chin were the only traces of Luke in the young man’s face. His sharp, angular features were all Mara’s.
“He inherited our grandfather’s height,” she said, remembering how startled she’d been at seeing his rather imposing form.
Jacen smiled tightly. It had been rather disconcerting to have to look up to talk to Ben, whom he had long thought of as his baby cousin. “Yeah, it’s too bad I didn’t.”
His sister laughed, but quieted as Ben entered the cockpit and took the navigator’s chair. He avoided their eyes and quickly typed the coordinates into the computer. The cockpit was silent all the way to the base.

Great story .. looking forward to more!
“Well, that was a disaster,” Jacen sighed.
Master of understatement!
Keep up the good work!
